• Empty Postbacks on ASP.NET pages

  We are having a problem that seems to only be a problem when accessing our websites from internal intranet machines. When logged into the domain, and accessing our websites, postbacks are not working. Basically the page behaves as if it were refreshed and nothing was changed. When logging the GETs and POSTs with an HTTP analyzer, the post is complete empty and the ContentLength is 0. It is also very sporadic, but seems to be happening fairly often. In the case where it failed, we could see that there was an extra item in the Header for the POST, it was "Authorization" and the value was the word "Negotiate " followed by a space and then a bunch of characters and two equal symbols at the end, which looked like some kind of base64 encoded value. In a case where it succeeded, this Authorization item was no in the header, but I have logged more than one successful cases to know if that is consistent. We have seen this occur only with IE8 so far, and when it occurs it is sometimes sporadic. I can close and open the browser and it will begin working sometimes, and other times it is still broken. What might be causing the postback to be empty? This means the viewstate is not sent to the server which makes the page basically broken. It seems to certainly be a client side issue, but not sure if it's not aggravated by some server settings. Thanks in advance.

• C# programmer - necessary to learn C or C++?

  Hey, I have been programming now for a couple of years. But never any low level language. I started off with some java and some VB. Then I went over to VB.NET and now for a while I have been writing C#. As you see, I have never written any low level language where I had to deal with memory management. Is this something I should do, like a route of passage that every programmer should go through? I am a bit keen on trying to perhaps writing in assembler directly. This would suit me personally good as I have 2 parents that have been writing assembler for ages. Is it necessary for a professional programmer these days to know how to manually manage memory?

• Memory Allocation Error in MySQL

  I am using MySql ODBC driver with .Net 3.5. I have created a stored procedure in MySQl which accepts around 15 parameters with types like datetime, varchar, Int32, Int64 etc.. When I run the SP from the query window with the arguments provided, it runs fine. But whwn I test using the .Net application, it gives exception with "Memory allocation error", MySQL native error code is 4001. Any help will be much appreciated.

  Hello everyone! I'm always really picky about memory leaks and I cannot understand why my garbage collected application leaks. My code is entirely memory-managed and it runs great without garbage collection, not a single leak. However, as soon as I turn on garbage collection it leaks! Just to prove a point, why does this leak in a garbage collected app? (place this dummy code at applicationDidFinishLaunching:) NSOpenPanel *panel = [NSOpenPanel openPanel]; [panel beginSheetModalForWindow:window completionHandler:^(NSInteger result) {NSBeep();}]; Also, is there a way to prevent leaks in apps (garbage collected or otherwise) that use Scripting Bridge? it seems as if they all leak, even the sample ones in xcode. • Django 404 pages not appearing?

  I want to add a 404 page on my Django site. I've created a template, 404.html, and saved it in the root of my /templates directory. I've also made sure that the from django.conf.urls.defaults import * line is included at the top of urls.py. I've set DEBUG to False. (I've been following these instructions.) However, if I try to go to a page that I know doesn't exist - whether a made-up URL or a view specifically designed to do get_object_or_404 - the 404 page doesn't appear: I just get Chrome's standard 'Oops! This link appears to be broken' page. Oddly, I also have a 500.html template in the same place and that is appearing just fine if I generate a 500 error. What might the problem be?

  i have been programming in C/C++ for my academic courses a lot and was under the impression i had a pretty good grasp of it. but lately i had to work in a bluetooth application that had a server and client implementation in a Linux box and an embedded system. i learned bluez bluetooth API, socket/network programming and coded it. however i ran into a lot of problems with memory leaks and segmentation faults and other memory related errors along the way.as the code grew more complex i all but lost control of the pointers and threads and sockets. this got me wondering that i had a lot to learn that they didn't say in the basic C/C++ books. so i wanted to ask for the resources that are available that'll help be code better in a professional way in C/C++ .especially for the Linux/Mac environment (gcc compiler).

• If I CFRelease() an image in core data, how do I get it back?

  My iphone app plays a slide show made up of 5 user images.  These images are stored using core data.  I was noticing that memory was building up every time a different slide show was played and it was not releasing any of the previously played slide shows.   These images are showing up in Object Allocations as CFData. So I tried releasing this data in the dealloc method CFRelease(slideshow.image1); CFRelease(slideshow.image2); CFRelease(slideshow.image3); CFRelease(slideshow.image4); CFRelease(slideshow.image5); This releases the previous slideshow great...BUT when I go back to view that same slideshow again, it crashes.   I am guessing that I need to alloc/init these images again, but I am not sure how?  Or maybe I should be managing this memory in a different way?

• Codeigniter Session Data not available in other pages after login

  So, I have set up a login page that verifies the user's credentials, and then sets codeigniter session data 'email' and 'is_logged_in' and a few other items. The first page after the login, the data is accessible. After that page, I can no longer access the session data. In fact, if I try reloading that first page, the session data is gone. I have tried storing it in the database, storing it unencrypted (bad idea I know, but it was for troubleshooting), and storing it encrypted. I have autoloaded the session library in config.php. Here's an example of the code I'm using to set the session data: $data = array( 'email' => $this->input->post('username'), 'is_logged_in' => true ); $this->session->set_userdata($data); And to retrieve it, I'm using : $this->session->userdata('email'); Or $this->session->userdata('is_logged_in'); I've done lots of work with PHP and cookies, and sessions before, but this is my first project with Codeigniter and I'm perplexed. Could it have something to do with directory issues? I have the login page and process controlled by a 'login' controller, and then it redirects to a 'site' controller. Thanks for your help, and please let me know if I need to clarify anything.

  Hi gurus, I've found a weird effect when trying to track down a memory leak in a Rails app. Can anyone explain what's going on here? Save this script as a plain Ruby script (Rails not necessary): class Fnord def to_s 'fnord' end end def test f = Fnord.new end test GC.start sleep 2 ObjectSpace.each_object do |o| puts o if o.is_a? Fnord end When I run this via ruby 1.8.7 (2009-06-12 patchlevel 174) [i486-linux] I get the following: bash $ ruby var_test fnord Although the variable f is out of scope, there are no other references to the single Fnord object, and I've garbage collected, the object still seems to exist. Is this a nefarious memory leak of some sort, or am I completely missing something about Ruby? Further, if I change the test method to this: def test f = Fnord.new f = nil end I get no output. But surely this should not change the semantics here? Many thanks!

• Invisible sprites still take up a lot in memory

  Just curious, if I have a sprite on the stage with the alpha set to 0 does that take up just as much memory as a sprite that is visible? I imagine it does because it draws the sprite to the stage and then it has to set the alpha to zero. It may seem like a stupid question but I just wanted to verify.

It is suggested around that erlang will be able to generate much more concurrent processes, I am willing to learn erlang if it is capable of solving the problem , although I am interested in knowing can erlang be able to say generate somewhere around 100000 processes which are essentially http requests waiting for responses, in a matter of few seconds without reaching any limit like memory error etc.,

Based on the answers, I will inlcude common fucntions through MasterPage and can put the page-specific function right on the content page. However, 1 question remains: Events. • MasterPage Page_Load hits before Grid_ItemCommand

  I am using the session object to store success/error messages based on user actions. On each postback, the message is set on ItemCommend and retrieved on the Page_Load of the master page. Once retrieved, the message is deleted from the session. The problem is that the master page's Page_Load gets called before the ItemCommand gets called so the message does not show up until the next refresh or postback. How is this situation normally handled? Is there some other event we can code against?

• IIS Not Serving PHP pages

  I have followed these instructions exactly, yet I get a "Page cannot be found" 404 error http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/247/using-fastcgi-to-host-php-applications-on-iis-60/ My PHP file is <?php phpinfo(); ?> I am running Windows Server 2003 and installed FastCGI and made sure everything is correct per those instructions. I can also create an HTML page and that serves no problem, so it must be an issue with PHP. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

  Quick question. I have a js function which gets called on the page every few seconds. It's an ajax update thing. Being a function, I declare local variables. I don't want to use closures or global variables for various reasons. I'd never considered this, but do I need to release/clear the variables at the end of the function to release memory or will js do this for me automatically ? Thanks

  UPDATE I tried using the internal wordpress rewrite. What I have to do is an address like this: http://example.com/galleria/artist-name sent to the gallery.php page with a variable containing the artist-name. Old question What I need to do is rewriting this address: (1) http://localhost/wordpress/fake/text-value to (2) http://localhost/wordpress/gallery?somevar=text-value Notes: the remapping must be transparent: the user always has to see address (1) gallery is a permalink to a wordpress page, not a real address I basically need to rewrite the address first (to modify it) and then feed it back to mod rewrite again (to let wordpress parse it its own way). Problems if I simply do RewriteRule ^fake$ http://localhost/wordpress/gallery [L] it works but the address in the browser changes, which is no good, if I do RewriteRule ^fake$ /wordpress/gallery [L] I get a 404. I tried different flags instead of [L] but to no avail. How can I get this to work?
