  I am trying to develop a simple freehand-drawing app for red-marking some of my images. Below is a method that is called from within the drawRect. I want to ask if there is a way to avoid add the path every time the path is redrawn? Also, the way the draw method is set up, the drawing gets a bit slow and choopy after a few seconds. • Access violation after GetInterface/QueryInterface in Delphi

  Hi everyone! First, I'm very new in Delphi and COM, but I should build COM application in Delphi. I read a lot of articles and notes on the internets, but COM and COM in Delphi are still not clear to me. My sources - http://www.everfall.com/paste/id.php?wisdn8hyhzkt (about 80 lines). I try to make a COM Interface and Impl class - it works if I call an interface method from Delphi (I create an impl object via TestClient.Create), but if I try to create an object from outer world (from Java, via com4j) my application crashed with following exception: Project Kernel.exe raised exception class $C0000005 with message 'access violation at 0x00000002: read of address 0x00000002'. If I set a breakpoint in QueryInterface - it breaks, but when I come out from function - all crashes. What I'm doing wrong? What I still missing? What I can/should read about COM (in Delphi) to avoid dumb questions like this?

  Hello, I have am writing a Python function that takes a timeout value as a parameter. Normally, the user will always use the same timeout value, but on occasion he may want to wait slightly longer. The timeout value is stored as a class instance variable. I want to use the class' timeout instance variable as the default parameter. Currently, I am implementing this as follows: def _writeAndWait (self, string, timeout = -1): if (timeout == -1): timeout = self._timeout I was just wondering, is the proper way to use an instance variable as a default parameter? • GCC without Xcode on OS X

  I've just unwrapped my new MacBook Pro (yay!) and am now setting it up properly for development. Since I want to avoid clutter, I'm wondering if I really need to install the Xcode tools at all (I never use the IDE or Mac specific tools), since I'll install a newer version of GCC anyway, using MacPorts. So, is there any benefit in installing Xcode? Is it necessary? What kind of set-up does it do behind the scenes? Basically: can I skip this or will it come back to haunt me because some Unix development tools just assume that OS X is always set up in this way?

  I'm testing my site with Google PageSpeed and YSlow and the bundles that i've created with MVC4 bundles aren't getting Gzipped (Compressing resources with gzip or deflate can reduce the number of bytes sent over the network) and there is no Vary: Accept-Encoding header (Instructs proxy servers to cache two versions of the resource: one compressed, and one uncompressed. This helps avoid issues with public proxies that do not detect the presence of a Content-Encoding header properly.) And also how can i add encoding header for the whole scripts folder on the ISS. I know there is HTTP Response Headers, then Add Custom HTTP Response Header, but will this work on the whole scripts folders and subfolders and what to put in the Name and Value fields.   I have a WCF service that needs to know the Principal of the calling user. In the constructor of the service I have: Principal = OperationContext.Current.IncomingMessageHeaders.GetHeader<MyPrincipal>("myPrincipal", "ns"); and in the calling code I have something like: using (var factory = new ChannelFactory<IMyService>(localBinding, endpoint)) { var proxy = factory.CreateChannel(); using (var scope = new OperationContextScope((IContextChannel)proxy)) { var customHeader = MessageHeader.CreateHeader("myPrincipal", "ns", Thread.CurrentPrincipal); OperationContext.Current.OutgoingMessageHeaders.Add(customHeader); newList = proxy.CreateList(); } } This all works fine. My question is, how can I avoid having to wrap all proxy method calls in the using (var scope...{ [create header and add to OperationContext]? Could I create a custom ChannelFactory that will handle adding the myPrincipal header to the operation context? Something like that would save a whole load of copy/paste which I'd rather not do but I'm not sure how to achieve it:) Thanks

I have done lots of R&D to find formula which gives me distance between two points. I also need shortest route which is possible. I have reviewed online tools which allow user to calculate the distance. But I want to do the same at my own. I have reviewed Port World Distance Calculator. I reviewed the Great Circle formula to achieve that but I don't know that how we avoid landscapes in sea distance and in which direction I need to find distance for second port.

I'm wondering if anybody else has encountered this and can recommend best practices or resources that describe best practices for such a problem. I'd like to avoid the dreaded out.print('<td class="foo">'+some_data+'</td>') style of web development. A coworker has suggested Rack as a light framework but the documentation is sketchy and it seems unproven in the market.

• Transition domain to new web host without waiting for DNS propagation

  I was considering switching to Amazon EC2 to host my website to handle more traffic. It seems like I would have to update DNS records to point to the new server but I was wondering if there was a way to avoid having to wait for the new DNS record to propagate. Putting the code on both hosts would not work for me since the app writes to a database pretty frequently. I thought about just using a meta redirect or php redirect on the old host to redirect to the new host ip but was wondering if there's a better more accepted way of doing this.

  I have a function that looks as follows: let isInSet setElems normalize p = normalize p |> (Set.ofList setElems).Contains This function can be used to quickly check whether an element is semantically part of some set; for example, to check if a file path belongs to an html file: let getLowerExtension p = (Path.GetExtension p).ToLowerInvariant() let isHtmlPath = isInSet [".htm"; ".html"; ".xhtml"] getLowerExtension However, when I use a function such as the above, performance is poor since evaluation of the function body as written in "isInSet" seems to be delayed until all parameters are known - in particular, invariant bits such as (Set.ofList setElems).Contains are reevaluated each execution of isHtmlPath. How can best I maintain F#'s succint, readable nature while still getting the more efficient behavior in which the set construction is preevaluated. The above is just an example; I'm looking for a general pattern that avoids bogging me down in implementation details - where possible I'd like to avoid being distracted by details such as the implementation's execution order since that's usually not important to me and kind of undermines a major selling point of functional programming.

• How do I iterate over the properties of an anonymous object in C#?

  I want to take an anonymous object as argument to a method, and then iterate over its properties to add each property/value to a a dynamic ExpandoObject. So what I need is to go from new { Prop1 = "first value", Prop2 = SomeObjectInstance, Prop3 = 1234 } to knowing names and values of each property, and being able to add them to the ExpandoObject. How do I accomplish this? Side note: This will be done in many of my unit tests (I'm using it to refactor away a lot of junk in the setup), so performance is to some extent relevant. I don't know enough about reflection to say for sure, but from what I've understood it's pretty performance heavy, so if it's possible I'd rather avoid it... Follow-up question: As I said, I'm taking this anonymous object as an argument to a method. What datatype should I use in the method's signature? Will all properties be available if I use object?

• Creating an Excel 2007 bubble chart with date values in axis

  I'm trying to create a graph showing the duration of issue resolution. I believe a bubble chart in excel will show what I want but I can't manage to get it working correctly. For each date I have a number of days (duration) and a number of issues (magnitude). Most dates have a duration of 1 with a large magnitude, and I want to avoid the outliers dominating the chart. e.g. 1-Feb, 1, 15 1-Feb, 2, 10 1-Feb, 9, 1 2-Feb, 1, 11 2-Feb, 2, 14 2-Feb, 6, 2 2-Feb, 18, 1 etc. I want the data in this example to give me 2 columns of bubbles. When I try to get excel to create the chart I can't get the date to appear at on the x axis; I get a count (representing the row of the data) instead, and as each row is a separate column, the values don't line up for the date. Can this be done in Excel 2007 without using VBA?

  I get this error when I try to run my app: 2010-04-29 13:49:01.355 MyApp[56123:207] *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSUnknownKeyException', reason: '[<MyViewController 0x5112b10> setValue:forUndefinedKey:]: this class is not key value coding-compliant for the key toolbar.' MyViewController used to have an IBOutlet called 'toolbar' that connected to a UIToolbar object in a nib. I decided I no longer needed the toolbar or the nib so I removed them from the project. But Xcode seems to still want to refer to 'toolbar'. Where might the reference to toolbar be if I no longer use a nib? I can synthesize a dummy 'toolbar' property to appease Xcode, but I want to avoid this kind of ugly hack.

  Sorry if this has been asked before, couldn't find anything specific. I'm looking for the most user-friendly issue tracker. Currently I'm using Trac. I'm looking for these 2 features: Very easy to create new ticket Email to ticket conversion (with attachements). The customers should be glad to use it (not avoid it like Trac). More often than not I get e-mails as bug reports and putting them into Trac wastes my time. I would really love to just hit forward and the ticket would appear in the issue tracker.

  I've (along with many others) have noticed that Apple changed the appearance of the popover controller to use a "slider" window rather than the usual "popover" tableview that I've used. While I'm okay with the new appearance, like others I'm having issues with the swipe gesture that is introduced: iOS 5.1 swipe gesture hijacked by UISplitViewController - how to avoid? The fix for this seems to be to set the split view controller method "presentWithGesture" to "NO." UISplitViewController *splitViewController = [[UISplitViewController alloc] init]; splitViewController.presentsWithGesture = NO; This works great if the user is using iOS 5.1, however, if this code is run using iOS 5.0 or below, an exception is thrown since this method is only available for iOS 5.1: Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '-[UISplitViewController setPresentsWithGesture:]: unrecognized selector Is it possible to get rid of this gesture without using this method so that it's backwards compatible with iOS' 5.0 and below?

• Conflicting PACKAGE_NAME and other macros when using autotools.

  When using autotools (with a config.h file) for both a library and a software built on that library the compiler complains about a redefinition of some macros (PACKAGE_NAME, PACKAGE_TARNAME and so on). How can I prevent this? The config.h file is needed in the library to propagate it's setting to the software that use it. I have a desktop application using Local DB Cache (SQL CE) to synchronize with the central database and I also have a web application with its own SQL Server that I'd also would like to keep synchronized. All synchronizations must be bidirectional. Is there a way to synchronize my central database with web application's database in the same way as I synchronize my central database with desktop client? I know about collaboration scenarios and peer-to-peer synchronization but I would like to avoid manual provisioning of databases. I'd like to use integrated sql server 2008 change tracking just like in the SQL CE <-- SQL Server scenario.

I've looked through the documentation for sqlalchemy and saw that the sqlite_autoincrement can be issued. An example where this attribute is given can be found here. sqlite_autoincrement seems though to be issued when creating the table itself, and I just wondered how it can be supplied when using a declarative style of the model such as mine.

The problem is that I want more then one page to be visible in the UIScrollView, but only one page should be selected. I found several solutions in which you handle touch down/up (touchesBegan and touchesEnded) myself and scrollRectToVisible, but I want to avoid this if possible. I can prompt the user with a request for Extended Permissions using the following FBML code: <fb:prompt-permission perms="read_stream,publish_stream"> Grant permission for status updates </fb:prompt-permission> Taken from here. This creates a link on the page that must be clicked by the user in order to trigger the prompt to display. My question is: Is it possible to display this prompt automatically, when the page loads, without requiring the user to click on the link? Also, in reply to the answer below, I'd like to avoid displaying the link. Would prefer a neat way to do this, if that fails the least dirty method will do :-)

  I'm writing a business-focused iPhone app which includes a self-hosted server component. I'd like to include push notification functionality in the server; reading through the programming guide it looks as if this would involve either: Distributing the provider certificate with the server component - this doesn't sound like a terribly good idea (even if Apple permits it?) Hosting a shared notification provider and forwarding notifications to APNS from the servers. For an ongoing, high-availability service, this is likely to require including a subscription pricing component, which I would prefer to avoid. Require customers to apply for their own provider certificate. However, it's not clear whether multiple organisations are allowed to apply for provider certificates with a single bundle ID, and it would significantly increase the barrier to adoption. APNS looks to me as if it's specifically geared for centrally hosted services. Is anyone distributing self-hosted notification providers? Are there any other options?

• Eclipse CDT: Import source / header files into my new project, without duplicating them

  Hi all, Im sure there is a very simple solution for this. I have a bunch of .cpp / .h files from a project, say in directory ~/files On the other hand, I want to create a c++ project using eclipse to work on those files, so I put my workspace on ~/wherever. Then I create a c++ project: ~/wherever/project, and include the source files (located in /~files). The problem i'm having is that files are now duplicated in ~/wherever/project, and I would like to avoid that, specially so I know which copy of the file to commit. Is this possible? Im sure it is, but cant get it. Thanks in advance.

• AnkhSVN: moving a project to another repo

  My task is to move this VS solution and projects to another SVN server. I'm working with Visual Studio 2010 RC1 and AnkhSVN 2.1.7819.... Currently the files are all bound to a repo at C:\Repositories\foo. I'd like to move it to http://someSite/svn/foo I'm presented with this error message: Repository UUID '152c39db-5799-4234-85f2-074004a6fcad' doesn't match expected UUID '6c83444d-7f93-d64a-b0a0-23283495cf17' Questions How can I avoid this message in AnkhSVN? Are there better solutions for moving the source into a repo on the new target? How can I get Ankh to 'forget' that repo at C:\Repositories\ forever?
