  • Why does using Collections.emptySet() with generics work in assignment but not as a method parameter

    So, I have a class with a constructor like this: public FilterList(Set<Integer> labels) { ... } and I want to construct a new FilterList object with an empty set. Following Joshua Bloch's advice in his book Effective Java, I don't want to create a new object for the empty set; I'll just use Collections.emptySet() instead: FilterList emptyList = new FilterList(Collections.emptySet()); This gives me an error, complaining that java.util.Set<java.lang.Object> is not a java.util.Set<java.lang.Integer>. OK, how about this: FilterList emptyList = new FilterList((Set<Integer>)Collections.emptySet()); This also gives me an error! Ok, how about this: Set<Integer> empty = Collections.emptySet(); FilterList emptyList = new FilterList(empty); Hey, it works! But why? After all, Java doesn't have type inference, which is why you get an unchecked conversion warning if you do Set<Integer> foo = new TreeSet() instead of Set<Integer> foo = new TreeSet<Integer>(). But Set<Integer> empty = Collections.emptySet(); works without even a warning. Why is that?

  • Why this doesn't work: [MySQL][ODBC 5.1 Driver]Access denied for user

    So I know that there is a very similar question to this all over the web as well as stack overflow: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2539961/error-access-denied-for-user-mysql-server but my question I think is different. So I have set up a linked server and it works...I have the correct permissions set up for my IP's that I am using. However the problem arises when our user "webuser@correctIP" tries to access it. Therefore, any user using window authentication is allowed to access it and works great...but any that are not using windows authentication are blocked. However, I have tried all the common solutions such as setting up a strict password, changing security settings in Microsoft SQL Server etc. Nothing is working. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. FYI: I am using this from Microsoft SQL Server 2008 - mysql (through myphpadmin)

  • Code completion in NetBeans' python plugin does not work properly

    I am asking on StackOverflow because surely I am doing something completely silly and I hope S.O. might provide me with a quick answer. I've installed the latest stable Python-plugin for NetBeans. It works great, and I tested code completion with various packages such as sys, os and so on. It works beautifully. However, it does not seem to pick up the code completion for the code in my own project. I created a package called mypackage (it has _init_.py as well), and in it I have a module called mymodule.py. Inside mymodule I've put a class called MyClass, complete with doc-strings and all. Please refer to this screenshot to describe what happens in code-completion: As you see, it's suggesting irrelevant things, as opposed to just MyClass. (Note that if I execute mymodule.MyClass() it works 100%, it's just that I would really like code completion on my own code) Hope I'm just doing something silly here... Any ideas?

  • JQuery val() does not work for textarea in Opera

    I am displaying a modal dialog using jQuery. This dialog has a textarea control on it. But on submitting this dialog, the value of this textarea is not recognized by jQyery for some reason. It always comes blank. This works perfectly in other browsers. I put alert to display the value but it looks blank. Can anybody help me in this regards? Controls <input type="text" id="txtGroupName"/> <textarea rows="3" cols="30" id="txtDescription"></textarea> jQuery code which used this value var postData = new Object(); postData.GroupName = $('#txtGroupName').val(); postData.Description = $('#txtDescription').val(); $('#txtDescription').val() comes blank but $('#txtGroupName').val() is read correctly as it is a input field. One more finding about this issue: When I put alert in my update function after populating the control value on page load, this alert displays the existing value properly. But it displays only existing value. It does not display the edited value after submitting the modal box.

    I wanted to allow for a method to get called, if a finger was dragged from outside into the bounds of a control. I thought UIControlEventTouchDragEnter would do it, but it doesn't seem to. Does anyone know if there is a way to trigger an action based on a tap sliding into a control? I have many string C to insert in Table 3. I am trying to insert row into Table 1, get the ID-a to insert in Table 2 along with the ID-b that is auto-Generated in Table 3 when I submit each string C, all in one submission to db. Right now I am calling dc.SubmitChanges twice in same call. Is it efficient to have to submit changes twice on same DataContext or can this be combined further?

    I am toying around with an MVC application just to learn the technology. I am mocking up a check register application that keeps track of a checking account, what has cleared the bank and what has not. I am using EF for my model and everything seems to be working correctly insofar as Edit, Create, etc. However, I have a couple of totals at the top. One to show the bank's balance and another to show the actual balance.     I would like to use Guava in a project, but my PM doesn't like the "r05" suffix, saying that it looks like it's not stable. In fact, the part I need is only the Google-Collections 1.0 which is now deprecated (my PM doesn't like that word either). So I don't really get the versioning of Guava/Google-Collections. I'm currently doing the development with GC1.0, but if possible I'll switch to a more recent and stable version.

I would have thought that AssemblyName.ReferenceMatchesDefinition should consider differences in the version, culture, and public key token attributes of an assembly name, shouldn't they? If not, what does ReferenceMatchesDefinition do that a comparison of the simple names doesn't?

    In Delphi 2007 and later, the global variable UseLatestCommonDialogs causes TOpenDialog to use the new Vista-style dialog on Windows Vista and 7. That's cool. Unfortunately, the Vista-style dialog does not seem to support the ofHideReadOnly option of TOpenDialog. The read-only checkbox never appears regardless whether this option is set to True or False. How can I make TOpenDialog show a read-only checkbox on the Vista-style dialog? TOpenTextFileDialog adds a combo box to the dialog regardless of whether it's Vista-style or not. It should be possible to add a read-only checkbox in the same way, but I can't figure out how to do it, even when looking at the source for TOpenTextFileDialog.

    Hey all, I'm writing an MSc dissertation and I'm having difficulty getting the longnamesfirst option working in natbib. My University has a very specific referencing style a little like APA, but not quite the same. I've used the docstrip utility to build a basic framework and then edited it to fit the requirements of my University. Having tested it with the simplest possible document; applying my bst then trying it again with one of the defaults (\bibliographystyle{apacite}) I can see than natbib works as intended with apacite. It doesn't however produce correct results with my bst. So my question: How does the .bst file link with natbib to enforce the "longnamesfirst" option?

  • ASP.NET 2.0 files work in one folder, but NOT in another

    I am about to leap of a building. I have created an app for a client and all the files are in a folder on their D drive. Now it is time to go production, so I copied all my files and folders to their excisting classic asp folder on the same drive. BUT NOTHING WORKS. The only difference I can see is that DEV does not require HTTPS like the production site. I also made sure all the permissions are the same on both folder. I made sure that the GAC has read rights using the aspnet_regiis tool. I am at the end of my debug knowlegde, could someone please help me out.   • Trouble getting Flash socket policy file to work.

    Basically I'm using Flash to connect to a Java server. Despite my Java application replying to the , in the Flash debug log it lists (not sure about the order as there are lots): * Security Sandbox Violation * Connection to 192.168.1.86:4049 halted - not permitted from http://127.0.0.1:8888/Current/wander.swf Warning: Timeout on xmlsocket://192.168.1.86:4049 (at 3 seconds) while waiting for socket policy file. This should not cause any problems, but see http://www.adobe.com/go/strict_policy_files for an explanation. Error: Request for resource at xmlsocket://192.168.1.86:4049 by requestor from http://127.0.0.1:8888/Current/wander.swf is denied due to lack of policy file permissions. What I don't understand is, the server (port 4049) receives the request, outputs the policy file and then closes the connection, surely it shouldn't time out? The policy file I'm using is: <?xml version="1.0"?> <cross-domain-policy><allow-access-from domain="*" to-ports="*" /> </cross-domain-policy>
