  • Use personal Amazon S3 account to backup Gmail using Ubuntu

    As question, I have found online that backupify offer shifting from their S3 to user's personal S3, I have a backupify account but I can't find this options, besides, I don't prefer having my email being processed by somebody else. Is it possible to use my own personal amazon s3 account to backup gmail? Preferably as incremental backup, as I don't have to use too much of bandwidth to load redundant data back to S3. I am using ubuntu, so script is OK for me. Thanks!

    Hi I have an Amazon S3 bucket with 10,000 images sitting in it with a standard naming convention: 001_small.jpg 001_large.jpg 002_small.jpg 002_large.jpg Because there are such a large amount of files I don't want to download ALL of them and I don't want to sit there for a couple of hours to select just the *_large.jpg files... Can someone suggest an S3 file manager that can let me select only the *_large.jpg files to download?? Thanks!

    I have an Amazon EC2 + SSL just installed on GoDaddy. I have successfully managed to install it and get the green https on the main domain https://www.example.com however it doesn't any https://www.example.com/something but the route works under http://www.example.com I am using an .htacess file for some rewrite. Options -MultiViews RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteRule ^ index.php [L] the Ec2 instance is ubuntu if that helps in anyway.

    Trying to iterate through AmazonS3 that has around 5000+ keys stored in the bucket, used sample code based on provided link on Amazon Developer Guide http://docs.amazonwebservices.com/AmazonS3/latest/dev/ListingObjectKeysUsingNetSDK.html Issue is iteration fails when NexMarker is passed which has length of more than 128 string characters, which seems unusal as withMarker accepts string as parameter and there is no documentation on limit to withMarker. request.Marker = response.NextMarker; Has anyone faced similar issue.     I want create an Launch Config/Auto Scaling Group to build instances inside an VPC with two subnets ("frontend" and "backend") I need that this instances have two ifaces. One in "frontend" subnet and one in "backend" subnet. I can't see how do that.     I've been investigating whether it's possible to get a list of the saved items in my Amazon shopping basket programmatically ... Their Product Advertising API has methods for getting wishlists: http://docs.amazonwebservices.com/AWSECommerceService/latest/DG/index.html?FindingItemsonLists.html and working with remote shopping carts: http://docs.amazonwebservices.com/AWSECommerceService/latest/DG/index.html?CHAP_WorkingWithRemoteShoppingCarts.html but the shopping cart of items stored while on the Amazon web site is treated as a local shopping cart, and therefore is not accessible through the Product Advertising API. According to the last link: The opposite of a remote shopping cart is a local shopping cart, which is the shopping cart customers use while shopping on www.amazon.com. It is considered local because Amazon hosts the shopping web pages as well as the shopping cart. Product Advertising API operations work solely with remote shopping carts. Has anyone found a way of getting the contents of the "local" cart, apart from scraping the HTML? Thanks.

    We're uploading files to a temporary folder in a bucket. After that, we're trying to copy the uploaded files to its actual folder then delete the files in the temporary folder. It doesn't timeout when working with a single file. We're using the ThreeSharp API.     I use SSL certificate for a web site I set up in Amazon EC2 Machine Instance. The SSL certificate is for one domain name, which is not public DNS for the Amazon Machine Instance. The browser always complains the mismatch in the domain name because it compares the domain name of the SSL certificate to the Amazon public DNS. How can I set up not to cause this problem? I tried both domain name forwarding and A Record setting. Maybe it's because I'm not so familiar with Amazon EC2 and I haven't configured domain name correctly. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  • Amazon Linux AMI release 2010.11.1 corresponds to which RHEL version (4/5/6)?

    I am using the default Amazon Linux AMI in an EC2 instance - Amazon Linux AMI release 2010.11.1. I can see that it's a Redhat based system, but after trying many tools (/etc/issues, uname -a, lsb_release), I cannot tell which version of RHEL or CentOS is it based on. I need to get some packages that are not available in Amazon's package repos. I have list of custom yum repos that I can use, but since I don't know which RHEL version is the Amazon AMI based on, I cannot choose from different versions of repos. How can I find whether it's running RHEL 4/5/6 (or their CentOS counterparts)?

  • Amazon EC2: Instances, IPs and a wordpress blog (LAMP)

    I had a link to my blog posted on Reddit yesterday and MySQL crashed on my EC2 Micro instance. I know I didn't have that many visitors because I used a marketing link that tracks hits. The link got 167 hits over the course of the last 18 hours, and MySQL crashed twice. So anyway, 167 visits is not a lot, so I've done some short term optimizations like restricting the number of Apache threads to limit the MySQL calls. I also set up WP Super Cache to serve static content. Soon I'm going to offload all of my images to S3 or CloudFront. So this leads me to my question. If this doesn't seem to help, and if i have another traffic "spike", how do AMIs work when you have a MySQL database? I think I understand that if you have more than one instance and assign the same Elastic IP to both of them, the incoming traffic gets distributed among both. But what happens when the MySQL database gets updated on one of the instances? I just need to wrap my mind around what happens when I create an AMI and then launch a new instance to help with traffic. Thanks for your suggestions.

    My ideal setup would be to take a current clients site, upload a .htaccess with a regex inside, that would match the URI, and if it finds a certain file extension, it would use the same path, but with an altered domain. ie. Normal path: http://www.domain.com/something/images/someimage.jpeg http://www.domain.com/assets/js/jquery.js .htaccess translated would turn the above into: http://mycdn.other.com/something/images/someimage.jpeg http://mycdn.other.com/assets/js/jquery.js I googled this for hours in a row, no luck. Again, this is for actually making use of Amazon's CloudFront. S3 is already mounted to the website for backups and storing files using s3fs, but this doesn't solve the issue since it's using S3 directly, not using the CloudFront.

  • Custom dedicated email server combined with Amazon AWS?

    Hi there. We are considering moving our servers to Amazone EC2 cloud. The only thing that stops right now is their problems with ip ranges banned from spam mail lists like SORBS. We are considering leaving one dedicated server in our current hosting, the one which we use to send mail (and other several features we will move to EC2), in order to be able to send the mails from this smtp server instead from Amazon. So, the idea is to have our sites hosted in EC2, and when they need to send mail, redirect they to our "local" smtp server. Do you think it´s viable? Can you think on a better solution?     I m really confused. I was trying to buy hosting at amazon ec2. My site will not be having much of a traffic and i will be installing glassfish and mysql. Usage will be 1gb of ram and around less than 5gb of hardisk and same bandwidth. As mine is a startup, the number of hits per day would be less than 20hits per day, each hit having around 10mins time. How should i calculate the price on the ec2 calculator. Thanks

  • Latency in Sending and Receiving Files From Amazon EC2 - Justification

    I am facing a huge delay while uploading and downloading files from my Windows Amazon EC2 server to my android device. It takes around 50 seconds to upload then download 500 Kbytes image. My location is in asia and the server is is US-East. I pinged the server from my android and obtained values around 500 ms for RTT. Is this normal? How is this explained? I tried this website: http://cloudharmony.com/speedtest/run and obtained that downloading 270 Kbytes file takes around 20 seconds. How is this delay justified?

  • Amazon mount EBS

    I'm trying to mount /vol to a EBS volume on an Amazon EC2 instance. I'm formatting the device to xfs, adding "/dev/sdh /vol xfs noatime 0 0" to my /etc/fstab file, making the /vol dir and mounting it and whenever I try to do anything with that volume (create a file in /vol, cd, ls, anything) or I try to run df the server just freezes. Anyone have any idea what this might be? It's driving me crazy. Edit: It seems to freeze after I mount, has nothing to do with doing any commands to the volume it's self.

  • Amazon EC2 instances changes server time/date on reboots and other time weirdness

    I have a windows instance up in EC2. I manually set the timezone to Pacific. 1) For some reason using window's built in time sync doesn't work in the instance...but whatever. I turn off automatic time syncing... but 2) On reboot the time on the server changes! For example, if i reboot it at 4PM on Wednesday, when the server comes back up it will read 12 noon on Thursday! As a result any access to Amazon's other services like SImpleDB fail because the timestamps generated are too far off the current time. Has anyone seen this or figured this out?

  • sox mix nested scripts on amazon ec2 rhel linux

    I'm trying to use "sox" to mix some audio files. The command works great on my Mac terminal sox -m audio.wav "| sox upload.wav -p trim 2 1 pad 6" final.wav This mixes (not concatenate) audio.wav and a section of upload.wav from the 2nd second to the 3rd second and adds 6 seconds of padding in the front, and outputs to final.wav Now the problem is, the SAME EXACT command does NOT work my Amazon EC2 RHEL box. (sox is installed correctly). I get the following error sox soxio: Can't open input file `| sox upload.wav -p trim 2 2 pad 6': No such file or directory For some reason RedHat doesn't like the double quotes. Even though it is documented to be used this way. Thanks for your help!
