  • Why is Firefox prompting to download a file that is POST'd to?

    - by alex
    This is the most peculiar thing. It is from an old in house CMS. When I attempt to submit my changes, it prompts to save the file linked in the action attribute of the form. Headers Request POST /~site/edit/articles/article_save.php?id=54 HTTP/1.1 Host: example.com User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; en-US; rv:1.9.2.3) Gecko/20100401 Firefox/3.6.3 Accept: text/html,application/xhtml+xml,application/xml;q=0.9,*/*;q=0.8 Accept-Language: en-us,en;q=0.5 Accept-Encoding: gzip,deflate Accept-Charset: ISO-8859-1,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.7 Keep-Alive: 115 Connection: keep-alive Referer: http://example.com Content-Type: multipart/form-data; boundary=---------------------------10102754414578508781458777923 Content-Length: 940 -----------------------------10102754414578508781458777923 Content-Disposition: form-data; name="title" Home Content -----------------------------10102754414578508781458777923 Content-Disposition: form-data; name="catid" 18 -----------------------------10102754414578508781458777923 Content-Disposition: form-data; name="activecheck" 1 -----------------------------10102754414578508781458777923 Content-Disposition: form-data; name="image" -----------------------------10102754414578508781458777923 Content-Disposition: form-data; name="contentWidgToolbarSelectBlock" <p> -----------------------------10102754414578508781458777923 Content-Disposition: form-data; name="content" <p>Edit your article in this text box.</p> -----------------------------10102754414578508781458777923 Content-Disposition: form-data; name="contentWidgEditor" true -----------------------------10102754414578508781458777923-- Response HTTP/0.9 200 OK And then Firefox shows.... I can't determine from the response headers as to why this is prompting to open/save. It has always worked. All other PHP files on the site work fine. Anyone have a clue? Thanks Update Apparently, it just crashes Safari.

  • Matab - Trace contour line between two different points

    - by Graham
    Hi, I have a set of points represented as a 2 row by n column matrix. These points make up a connected boundary or edge. I require a function that traces this contour from a start point P1 and stop at an end point P2. It also needs to be able trace the contour in a clockwise or anti-clockwise direction. I was wondering if this can be achieved by using some of matlabs functions. I have tried to write my own function but this was riddled with bugs and I have also tried using bwtraceboundary and indexing however this has problematic results as the points within the matrix are not in the order that create the contour. Thank you in advance for any help. Btw, I have included a link to a plot of the set of points. It is half the outline of a hand. The function would ideally trace the contour from ether the red star to the green triangle. Returning the points in order of traversal.

  • SSRS 2008 - Sending report as email

    - by Mozy
    Hi all, What I want to do is render a SSRS 2008 report as HTML (actually MHTML) and send that as the body in an email. Has anyone done this? I've almost got it (I think) but I seem to have a encoding problem. The email shows up as what looks like some sort of base64 encoding. Like this: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/related; boundary="----=_NextPart_01C35DB7.4B204430" X-MSSQLRS-ProducerVersion: V10.0.2531.0 This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_01C35DB7.4B204430 Content-ID: Content-Disposition: inline; filename="FollowUpNotification" Content-Type: text/html; name="FollowUpNotification"; charset="utf-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 PCFET0NUWVBFIEhUTUwgUFVCTElDICItLy9XM0MvL0RURCBIVE1MIDQuMDEgVHJhbnNp... Any ideas on what I'm missing? Here is a code snippet: myMail.BodyEncoding = System.Text.Encoding.UTF8; myMail.IsBodyHtml = true; WebClient client = new WebClient(); System.Net.NetworkCredential repAuthenticationInfo = new System.Net.NetworkCredential(@"username", @"password"); client.Credentials = repAuthenticationInfo; client.Encoding = System.Text.Encoding.UTF8; string messageBody = client.DownloadString( "http://<<reportserver>>&rs%3aFormat=MHTML&Parameter=" + Parameter); myMail.Body = messageBody;

  • How can I send multiple images in a server push Perl CGI program?

    - by Jujjuru
    I am a beginner in Perl CGI etc. I was experimenting with server-push concept with a piece of Perl code. It is supposed to send a jpeg image to the client every three seconds. Unfortunately nothing seems to work. Can somebody help identify the problem? Here is the code: use strict; # turn off io buffering $|=1; print "Content-type: multipart/x-mixed-replace;"; print "boundary=magicalboundarystring\n\n"; print "--magicalboundarystring\n"; #list the jpg images my(@file_list) = glob "*.jpg"; my($file) = ""; foreach $file(@file_list ) { open FILE,">", $file or die "Cannot open file $file: $!"; print "Content-type: image/jpeg\n\n"; while ( <FILE> ) { print "$_"; } close FILE; print "\n--magicalboundarystring\n"; sleep 3; next; } EDIT: added turn off i/o buffering, added "use strict" and "@file_list", "$file" are made local

  • Weird problem with PHP mail() under Linux.

    - by Vilx-
    This is the case when it "works on my machine". Except that my machine is Windows, and the target is some sort of Linux. The idea is that the mail() function puts a newline between the MIME-Version and Content-Type headers, thus breaking the whole thing. Here's the code, simpliefied as much as possible: <?php $HTMLPart = chunk_split(base64_encode('<html><body style="color: red">Test.</body></html>')); $PlaintextPart = chunk_split(base64_encode('>>> TEST <<<')); $Headers =<<<AKAM From: "My Test" <[email protected]> Reply-To: [email protected] MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/alternative; boundary="9-1410065408-1410065408=:27514" AKAM; $Body =<<<AKAM This is a multi-part message in MIME format. --9-1410065408-1410065408=:27514 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="windows-1252" Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 $PlaintextPart --9-1410065408-1410065408=:27514 Content-Type: text/html; charset="windows-1252" Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 $HTMLPart --9-1410065408-1410065408=:27514-- AKAM; echo 'Try 3: '; echo mail('[email protected]', 'Testmail', $Body, $Headers) ?   • python crc32 woes

    - by lazyr
    I'm writing a python program to extract data from the middle of a 6 GB bz2 file. A bzip2 file is made up of independently decryptable blocks of data, so I only need to find a block (they are delimited by magic bits), then create a temporary one-block bzip2 file from it in memory, and finally pass that to the bz2.decompress function. Easy, no? The bzip2 format has a crc32 checksum for the file at the end. No problem, binascii.crc32 to the rescue. But wait. The data to be checksummed does not necessarily end on a byte boundary, and the crc32 function operates on a whole number of bytes. My plan: use the binascii.crc32 function on all but the last byte, and then a function of my own to update the computed crc with the last 1-7 bits. But hours of coding and testing has left me bewildered, and my puzzlement can be boiled down to this question: how come crc32("\x00") is not 0x00000000? Shouldn't it be, according to the wikipedia article? You start with 0b00000000 and pad with 32 0's, then do polynomial division with 0x04C11DB7 until there are no ones left in the first 8 bits, which is immediately. Your last 32 bits is the checksum, and how can that not be all zeroes? I've searched google for answers and looked at the code of several crc32 implementations without finding any clue to why this is so.

  • ASP.NET MVC - How to Unit Test boundaries in the Repository pattern?

    - by JK
    Given a basic repository interface: public interface IPersonRepository { void AddPerson(Person person); List<Person> GetAllPeople(); } With a basic implementation: public class PersonRepository: IPersonRepository { public void AddPerson(Person person) { ObjectContext.AddObject(person); } public List<Person> GetAllPeople() { return ObjectSet.AsQueryable().ToList(); } } How can you unit test this in a meaningful way? Since it crosses the boundary and physically updates and reads from the database, thats not a unit test, its an integration test. Or is it wrong to want to unit test this in the first place? Should I only have integration tests on the repository? I've been googling the subject and blogs often say to make a stub that implements the IRepository: public class PersonRepositoryTestStub: IPersonRepository { private List<Person> people = new List<Person>(); public void AddPerson(Person person) { people.Add(person); } public List<Person> GetAllPeople() { return people; } } But that doesnt unit test PersonRepository, it tests the implementation of PersonRepositoryTestStub (not very helpful).

  • Converting "A* Search" code from C++ to Java [on hold]

    - by mr5
    Updated! I get this code from this site It's A* Search Algorithm(finding shortest path with heuristics) I modify most of variable names and some if conditions from the original version to satisfy my syntactic taste. It works in C++ (as I can't see any trouble with it) but fails in Java version. Java Code: String findPath(int startX, int startY, int finishX, int finishY) { @SuppressWarnings("unchecked") LinkedList<Node>[] nodeList = (LinkedList<Node>[]) new LinkedList<?>[2]; nodeList[0] = new LinkedList<Node>(); nodeList[1] = new LinkedList<Node>(); Node n0; Node m0; int nlIndex = 0; // queueList index // reset the node maps for(int y = 0;y < ROW_COUNT; ++y) { for(int x = 0;x < COL_COUNT; ++x) { close_nodes_map[y][x] = 0; open_nodes_map[y][x] = 0; } } // create the start node and push into list of open nodes n0 = new Node( startX, startY, 0, 0 ); n0.updatePriority( finishX, finishY ); nodeList[nlIndex].push( n0 ); open_nodes_map[startY][startX] = n0.getPriority(); // mark it on the open nodes map // A* search while( !nodeList[nlIndex].isEmpty() ) { LinkedList<Node> pq = nodeList[nlIndex]; // get the current node w/ the highest priority // from the list of open nodes n0 = new Node( pq.peek().getX(), pq.peek().getY(), pq.peek().getIterCount(), pq.peek().getPriority()); int x = n0.getX(); int y = n0.getY(); nodeList[nlIndex].pop(); // remove the node from the open list open_nodes_map[y][x] = 0; // mark it on the closed nodes map close_nodes_map[y][x] = 1; // quit searching when the goal state is reached //if((*n0).estimate(finishX, finishY) == 0) if( x == finishX && y == finishY ) { // generate the path from finish to start // by following the directions String path = ""; while( !( x == startX && y == startY) ) { int j = dir_map[y][x]; int c = '0' + ( j + Node.DIRECTION_COUNT / 2 ) % Node.DIRECTION_COUNT; path = (char)c + path; x += DIR_X[j]; y += DIR_Y[j]; } return path; } // generate moves (child nodes) in all possible directions for(int i = 0; i < Node.DIRECTION_COUNT; ++i) { int xdx = x + DIR_X[i]; int ydy = y + DIR_Y[i]; // boundary check if (!(xdx >= 0 && xdx < COL_COUNT && ydy >= 0 && ydy < ROW_COUNT)) continue; if ( ( gridMap.getData( ydy, xdx ) == GridMap.WALKABLE || gridMap.getData( ydy, xdx ) == GridMap.FINISH) && close_nodes_map[ydy][xdx] != 1 ) { // generate a child node m0 = new Node( xdx, ydy, n0.getIterCount(), n0.getPriority() ); m0.nextLevel( i ); m0.updatePriority( finishX, finishY ); // if it is not in the open list then add into that if( open_nodes_map[ydy][xdx] == 0 ) { open_nodes_map[ydy][xdx] = m0.getPriority(); nodeList[nlIndex].push( m0 ); // mark its parent node direction dir_map[ydy][xdx] = ( i + Node.DIRECTION_COUNT / 2 ) % Node.DIRECTION_COUNT; } else if( open_nodes_map[ydy][xdx] > m0.getPriority() ) { // update the priority info open_nodes_map[ydy][xdx] = m0.getPriority(); // update the parent direction info dir_map[ydy][xdx] = ( i + Node.DIRECTION_COUNT / 2 ) % Node.DIRECTION_COUNT; // replace the node // by emptying one queueList to the other one // except the node to be replaced will be ignored // and the new node will be pushed in instead while( !(nodeList[nlIndex].peek().getX() == xdx && nodeList[nlIndex].peek().getY() == ydy ) ) { nodeList[1 - nlIndex].push( nodeList[nlIndex].pop() ); } nodeList[nlIndex].pop(); // remove the wanted node // empty the larger size queueList to the smaller one if( nodeList[nlIndex].size() > nodeList[ 1 - nlIndex ].size() ) nlIndex = 1 - nlIndex; while( !nodeList[nlIndex].isEmpty() ) { nodeList[1 - nlIndex].push( nodeList[nlIndex].pop() ); } nlIndex = 1 - nlIndex; nodeList[nlIndex].push( m0 ); // add the better node instead } } } } return ""; // no route found } Output1: Legends . = PATH ? = START X = FINISH 3,2,1 = OBSTACLES (Just right) From what I read about Java's documentation, I came up with the conclusion: C++'s std::queue<T>::front() == Java's LinkedList<T>.peek() Java's LinkedList<T>.pop() == C++'s std::queue<T>::front() + std::queue<T>::pop() What might I be missing in my Java version? In what way does it became different algorithmically from the C++ version?

  • Encrypt correctly caracters in a PHP mail form ("I'm" turns to be "I\'m")

    - by Peanuts
    Hello guys, I'm testing a PHP mail form, a very barebones one, found here: <?php if(isset($_POST['submit'])) { //The form has been submitted, prep a nice thank you message $output = '<h3>Thanks for your message</h3>'; //Deal with the email $to = '[email protected]'; $subject = 'you have a mail'; $contactname = strip_tags($_POST['contactname']); $adress = strip_tags($_POST['adress']); $contactemail = strip_tags($_POST['contactemail']); $textmessage = strip_tags($_POST['textmessage']); $boundary =md5(date('r', time())); $headers = "From: My Site\r\nReply-To: [email protected]"; $message = "Name: ".$contactname."\n"; $message .= "Adress: ".$adress."\n"; $message .= "E-mail: ".$contactemail."\n"; $message .= "Message: ".$textmessage."\n"; mail($to, $subject, $message, $headers); } ?> The problem is I'm receiving an unwanted slash "\" everytime I write a single or a double quote in my message, so "I'm" appear as "I\'m" in my mailbox. I know it have to do with the way PHP distinguishes code quotes from only lecture quotes, but I wouldn't know what to add in my form to get it properly running. Any help is appreciated,

  • C# ...extract email address from inside 100's of text files

    - by Developer
    My SMTP server got 100's of errors when sending lots of emails. Now have lots of .BAD files each one containing an error message and somewhere in the middle, the actual email address it was supposed to be sent to. • java setting resolution and print size for an Image

    - by Ingrid
    I wrote a program that generates a BufferedImage to be displayed on the screen and then printed. Part of the image includes grid lines that are 1 pixel wide. That is, the line is 1 pixel, with about 10 pixels between lines. Because of screen resolution, the image is displayed much bigger than that, with several pixels for each line. I'd like to draw it smaller, but when I scale the image (either by using Image.getScaledInstance or Graphics2D.scale), I lose significant amounts of detail. I'd like to print the image as well, and am dealing with the same problem. In that case, I am using this code to set the resolution: HashPrintRequestAttributeSet set = new HashPrintRequestAttributeSet(); PrinterResolution pr = new PrinterResolution(250, 250, ResolutionSyntax.DPI); set.add(pr); job.print(set); which works to make the image smaller without losing detail. But the problem is that the image is cut off at the same boundary as if I hadn't set the resolution. I'm also confused because I expected a larger number of DPI to make a smaller image, but it's working the other way. I'm using java 1.6 on Windows 7 with eclipse.

  • Python lists/arrays: disable negative indexing wrap-around

    - by wim
    While I find the negative number wraparound (i.e. A[-2] indexing the second-to-last element) extremely useful in many cases, there are often use cases I come across where it is more of an annoyance than helpful, and I find myself wishing for an alternate syntax to use when I would rather disable that particular behaviour. Here is a canned 2D example below, but I have had the same peeve a few times with other data structures and in other numbers of dimensions. import numpy as np A = np.random.randint(0, 2, (5, 10)) def foo(i, j, r=2): '''sum of neighbours within r steps of A[i,j]''' return A[i-r:i+r+1, j-r:j+r+1].sum() In the slice above I would rather that any negative number to the slice would be treated the same as None is, rather than wrapping to the other end of the array. Because of the wrapping, the otherwise nice implementation above gives incorrect results at boundary conditions and requires some sort of patch like: def ugly_foo(i, j, r=2): def thing(n): return None if n < 0 else n return A[thing(i-r):i+r+1, thing(j-r):j+r+1].sum() I have also tried zero-padding the array or list, but it is still inelegant (requires adjusting the lookup locations indices accordingly) and inefficient (requires copying the array). Am I missing some standard trick or elegant solution for slicing like this? I noticed that python and numpy already handle the case where you specify too large a number nicely - that is, if the index is greater than the shape of the array it behaves the same as if it were None.

  • Custom Tile Layer Problem

    - by Myra
    Hi,I'm currently implementing logic on custom tile layers via OpenLayers function getTiles() { var res = this.map.getResolution(); var x = Math.round((bounds.left - this.maxExtent.left) / (res * this.tileSize.w)); var y = Math.round((this.maxExtent.top - bounds.top) / (res * this.tileSize.h)); var z = this.map.getZoom(); return ......; } What I need to is to carry this code in Google API v3. As I searched documentation I found this code to work with: var customtile = new google.maps.ImageMapType({ getTileUrl: function (coord, zoom) { .... .... } Unfortonately,I cannot convert logic in OpenLayers code to Google. As I know resolution is 180 * tileSize.w / Math.pow(2, zoom) //where tileSize is 256x256 Since Google projection is same with my tiles WGS84 boundary should be -180,-90,90,180 I need to calculate to extent coordinates,but in function getTileUrl,there are two arguments.One of which is zoom,but the other coord is some x,y pair which I dont understand what that is.What is that exactly ? How can I generalize formula for calculating tile numbers in Google Maps? Thank you Myra

    Have an indicator in the form of an image which is displayed in a graphics viewport. The indicator can be any colour the user selects so we created a single image with a pallette and change a specific color in the pallette to the one the user picks using the following code. /// <summary> /// Copies the image and sets transparency and fill colour of the copy. The image is intended to be a simple filled shape such as a square /// with the inside all in one colour. /// </summary> /// <remarks>Assumes the fill colour to be changed is Red, /// black is the boundary colour and off white (RGB 233,233,233) is the colour to be made transparent</remarks> /// <param name="image"></param> /// <param name="fillColour"></param> /// <returns></returns> protected Bitmap CopyWithStyle(Bitmap image, Color fillColour) { ColorPalette selectionIndicatorPalette = image.Palette; int fillColourIndex = selectionIndicatorPalette.IndexOf(Color.Red); selectionIndicatorPalette.Entries[fillColourIndex] = fillColour; image.Palette = selectionIndicatorPalette; Bitmap tempImage = image; tempImage.MakeTransparent(transparentColour); return tempImage; } To be honest I'm not sure if this is a bit cludgy and there is some smarter approach or not, so any thoughts there would help. However the main issue is that this appears to work fine on Win7 but in vista and XP the color does not change. Has any one seen this before. I've found one or two articles that suggest there are some differences in ARGB between them but nothing particularly concrete. Any help greatfully accepted.

  • .NET List Thread-Safe Implementation Suggestion needed

    - by Bamboo
    .Net List class isn't thread safe. I hope to achieve the minimal lock needed and yet still fulfilling the requirement such that as for reading, phantom record is allowed, and for writing, they must be thread-safe so there won't be any lost updates. So I have something like public static List<string> list = new List<string>(); In Methods that have **List.Add**/**List.Remove** , I always lock to assure thread safety lock (lockHelper) { list.Add(obj); or list.Remove(obj); } In Methods that requires **List Reading** I don't care about phantom record so I go ahead to read without any locking. In this case. Return a bool by checking whether a string had been added. if (list.Count() != 0) { return list.Contains("some string") } All I did was locking write accesses, and allow read accesses to go through without any locking. Is my thread safety idea valid? I understand there is List size expansion. Will it be ok? My guess is that when a List is expanding, it may uses a temp. list. This is ok becasue the temp list size will always have a boundary, and .Net class is well implemented, ie. there shouldn't be any indexOutOfBound or circular reference problems when reading was caught in updates.

  • How did my email end up in spam? Spam only filters this specific email, other email contents work

    - by mugetsu
    My website has users buy our products and when the purchase completes, it sends the user an email. However, this email always ends up in spam! When the user first registers, the site also sends an email, this email however is not filtered and goes into the normal inbox. I'm not quite sure why this is so, gmail vaguely tells me that " It's similar to messages that were detected by our spam filters." So I'm thinking that I need to reword the following email better. Can I get some tips? Or could something else be causing this? thanks! here's the unformatted email: Delivered-To: [email protected] Received: by 10.112.32.98 with SMTP id h2csp61953lbi; Tue, 20 Mar 2012 21:09:13 -0700 (PDT) Received: by 10.180.79.72 with SMTP id h8mr22836827wix.1.1332302953175; Tue, 20 Mar 2012 21:09:13 -0700 (PDT) Return-Path: <[email protected]> Received: from mail26.elasticemail.org (mail26.elasticemail.org. • Best Practices - Core allocation

    - by jsavit
    This post is one of a series of "best practices" notes for Oracle VM Server for SPARC (also called Logical Domains) Introduction SPARC T-series servers currently have up to 4 CPU sockets, each of which has up to 8 or (on SPARC T3) 16 CPU cores, while each CPU core has 8 threads, for a maximum of 512 dispatchable CPUs. The defining feature of Oracle VM Server for SPARC is that each domain is assigned CPU threads or cores for its exclusive use. This avoids the overhead of software-based time-slicing and emulation (or binary rewriting) of system state-changing privileged instructions used in traditional hypervisors. To create a domain, administrators specify either the number of CPU threads or cores that the domain will own, as well as its memory and I/O resources. When CPU resources are assigned at the individual thread level, the logical domains constraint manager attempts to assign threads from the same cores to a domain, and avoid "split core" situations where the same CPU core is used by multiple domains. Sometimes this is unavoidable, especially when domains are allocated and deallocated CPUs in small increments. Why split cores can matter Split core allocations can silenty reduce performance because multiple domains with different address spaces and memory contents are sharing the core's Level 1 cache (L1$). This is called false cache sharing since even identical memory addresses from different domains must point to different locations in RAM. The effect of this is increased contention for the cache, and higher memory latency for each domain using that core. The degree of performance impact can be widely variable. For applications with very small memory working sets, and with I/O bound or low-CPU utilization workloads, it may not matter at all: all machines wait for work at the same speed. If the domains have substantial workloads, or are critical to performance then this can have an important impact: This blog entry was inspired by a customer issue in which one CPU core was split among 3 domains, one of which was the control and service domain. The reported problem was increased I/O latency in guest domains, but the root cause might be higher latency servicing the I/O requests due to the control domain being slowed down. What to do about it Split core situations are easily avoided. In most cases the logical domain constraint manager will avoid it without any administrative action, but it can be entirely prevented by doing one of the several actions: Assign virtual CPUs in multiples of 8 - the number of threads per core. For example: ldm set-vcpu 8 mydomain or ldm add-vcpu 24 mydomain. Each domain will then be allocated on a core boundary. Use the whole core constraint when assigning CPU resources. This allocates CPUs in increments of entire cores instead of virtual CPU threads. The equivalent of the above commands would be ldm set-core 1 mydomain or ldm add-core 3 mydomain. Older syntax does the same thing by adding the -c flag to the add-vcpu, rm-vcpu and set-vcpu commands, but the new syntax is recommended. When whole core allocation is used an attempt to add cores to a domain fails if there aren't enough completely empty cores to satisfy the request. See https://blogs.oracle.com/sharakan/entry/oracle_vm_server_for_sparc4 for an excellent article on this topic by Eric Sharakan. Don't obsess: - if the workloads have minimal CPU requirements and don't need anywhere near a full CPU core, then don't worry about it. If you have low utilization workloads being consolidated from older machines onto a current T-series, then there's no need to worry about this or to assign an entire core to domains that will never use that much capacity. In any case, make sure the most important domains have their own CPU cores, in particular the control domain and any I/O or service domain, and of course any important guests. Summary Split core CPU allocation to domains can potentially have an impact on performance, but the logical domains manager tends to prevent this situation, and it can be completely and simply avoided by allocating virtual CPUs on core boundaries.

  • Fetching Partition Information

    - by Mike Femenella
    For a recent SSIS package at work I needed to determine the distinct values in a partition, the number of rows in each partition and the file group name on which each partition resided in order to come up with a grouping mechanism. Of course sys.partitions comes to mind for some of that but there are a few other tables you need to link to in order to grab the information required. The table I’m working on contains 8.8 billion rows. Finding the distinct partition keys from this table was not a fast operation. My original solution was to create  a temporary table, grab the distinct values for the partitioned column, then update via sys.partitions for the rows and the $partition function for the partitionid and finally look back to the sys.filegroups table for the filegroup names. It wasn’t pretty, it could take up to 15 minutes to return the results. The primary issue is pulling distinct values from the table. Queries for distinct against 8.8 billion rows don’t go quickly. A few beers into a conversation with a friend and we ended up talking about work which led to a conversation about the task described above. The solution was already built in SQL Server, just needed to pull it together. The first table I needed was sys.partition_range_values. This contains one row for each range boundary value for a partition function. In my case I have a partition function which uses dayid values. For example July 4th would be represented as an int, 20130704. This table lists out all of the dayid values which were defined in the function. This eliminated the need to query my source table for distinct dayid values, everything I needed was already built in here for me. The only caveat was that in my SSIS package I needed to create a bucket for any dayid values that were out of bounds for my function. For example if my function handled 20130501 through 20130704 and I had day values of 20130401 or 20130705 in my table, these would not be listed in sys.partition_range_values. I just created an “everything else” bucket in my ssis package just in case I had any dayid values unaccounted for. To get the number of rows for a partition is very easy. The sys.partitions table contains values for each partition. Easy enough to achieve by querying for the object_id and index value of 1 (the clustered index) The final piece of information was the filegroup name. There are 2 options available to get the filegroup name, sys.data_spaces or sys.filegroups. For my query I chose sys.filegroups but really it’s a matter of preference and data needs. In order to bridge between sys.partitions table and either sys.data_spaces or sys.filegroups you need to get the container_id. This can be done by joining sys.allocation_units.container_id to the sys.partitions.hobt_id. sys.allocation_units contains the field data_space_id which then lets you join in either sys.data_spaces or sys.file_groups. The end result is the query below, which typically executes for me in under 1 second. I’ve included the join to sys.filegroups and to sys.dataspaces, and I’ve  just commented out the join sys.filegroups. As I mentioned above, this shaves a good 10-15 minutes off of my original ssis package and is a really easy tweak to get a boost in my ETL time. Enjoy.

  • Drawing random smooth lines contained in a square [migrated]

    - by Doug Mercer
    I'm trying to write a matlab function that creates random, smooth trajectories in a square of finite side length. Here is my current attempt at such a procedure: function [] = drawroutes( SideLength, v, t) %DRAWROUTES Summary of this function goes here % Detailed explanation goes here %Some parameters intended to help help keep the particles in the box RandAccel=.01; ConservAccel=0; speedlimit=.1; G=10^(-8); % %Initialize Matrices Ax=zeros(v,10*t); Ay=Ax; vx=Ax; vy=Ax; x=Ax; y=Ax; sx=zeros(v,1); sy=zeros(v,1); % %Define initial position in square x(:,1)=SideLength*.15*ones(v,1)+(SideLength*.7)*rand(v,1); y(:,1)=SideLength*.15*ones(v,1)+(SideLength*.7)*rand(v,1); % for i=2:10*t %Measure minimum particle distance component wise from boundary %for each vehicle BorderGravX=[abs(SideLength*ones(v,1)-x(:,i-1)),abs(x(:,i-1))]'; BorderGravY=[abs(SideLength*ones(v,1)-y(:,i-1)),abs(y(:,i-1))]'; rx=min(BorderGravX)'; ry=min(BorderGravY)'; % %Set the sign of the repulsive force for k=1:v if x(k,i)<.5*SideLength sx(k)=1; else sx(k)=-1; end if y(k,i)<.5*SideLength sy(k)=1; else sy(k)=-1; end end % %Calculate Acceleration w/ random "nudge" and repulive force Ax(:,i)=ConservAccel*Ax(:,i-1)+RandAccel*(rand(v,1)-.5*ones(v,1))+sx*G./rx.^2; Ay(:,i)=ConservAccel*Ay(:,i-1)+RandAccel*(rand(v,1)-.5*ones(v,1))+sy*G./ry.^2; % %Ad hoc method of trying to slow down particles from jumping outside of %feasible region for h=1:v if abs(vx(h,i-1)+Ax(h,i))<speedlimit vx(h,i)=vx(h,i-1)+Ax(h,i); elseif (vx(h,i-1)+Ax(h,i))<-speedlimit vx(h,i)=-speedlimit; else vx(h,i)=speedlimit; end end for h=1:v if abs(vy(h,i-1)+Ay(h,i))<speedlimit vy(h,i)=vy(h,i-1)+Ay(h,i); elseif (vy(h,i-1)+Ay(h,i))<-speedlimit vy(h,i)=-speedlimit; else vy(h,i)=speedlimit; end end % %Update position x(:,i)=x(:,i-1)+(vx(:,i-1)+vx(:,i))/2; y(:,i)=y(:,i-1)+(vy(:,i-1)+vy(:,1))/2; % end %Plot position clf; hold on; axis([-100,SideLength+100,-100,SideLength+100]); cc=hsv(v); for j=1:v plot(x(j,1),y(j,1),'ko') plot(x(j,:),y(j,:),'color',cc(j,:)) end hold off; % end My original plan was to place particles within a square, and move them around by allowing their acceleration in the x and y direction to be governed by a uniformly distributed random variable. To keep the particles within the square, I tried to create a repulsive force that would push the particles away from the boundaries of the square. In practice, the particles tend to leave the desired "feasible" region after a relatively small number of time steps (say, 1000)." I'd love to hear your suggestions on either modifying my existing code or considering the problem from another perspective. When reading the code, please don't feel the need to get hung up on any of the ad hoc parameters at the very beginning of the script. They seem to help, but I don't believe any beside the "G" constant should truly be necessary to make this system work. Here is an example of the current output: Many of the vehicles have found their way outside of the desired square region, [0,400] X [0,400].

  • Data breakpoints to find points where data gets broken

    - by raccoon_tim
    When working with a large code base, finding reasons for bizarre bugs can often be like finding a needle in a hay stack. Finding out why an object gets corrupted without no apparent reason can be quite daunting, especially when it seems to happen randomly and totally out of context. Scenario Take the following scenario as an example. You have defined the a class that contains an array of characters that is 256 characters long. You now implement a method for filling this buffer with a string passed as an argument. At this point you mistakenly expect the buffer to be 256 characters long. At some point you notice that you require another character buffer and you add that after the previous one in the class definition. You now figure that you don’t need the 256 characters that the first member can hold and you shorten that to 128 to conserve space. At this point you should start thinking that you also have to modify the method defined above to safeguard against buffer overflow. It so happens, however, that in this not so perfect world this does not cross your mind. Buffer overflow is one of the most frequent sources for errors in a piece of software and often one of the most difficult ones to detect, especially when data is read from an outside source. Many mass copy functions provided by the C run-time provide versions that have boundary checking (defined with the _s suffix) but they can not guard against hard coded buffer lengths that at some point get changed. Finding the bug Getting back to the scenario, you’re now wondering why does the second string get modified with data that makes no sense at all. Luckily, Visual Studio provides you with a tool to help you with finding just these kinds of errors. It’s called data breakpoints. To add a data breakpoint, you first run your application in debug mode or attach to it in the usual way, and then go to Debug, select New Breakpoint and New Data Breakpoint. In the popup that opens, you can type in the memory address and the amount of bytes you wish to monitor. You can also use an expression here, but it’s often difficult to come up with an expression for data in an object allocated on the heap when not in the context of a certain stack frame. There are a couple of things to note about data breakpoints, however. First of all, Visual Studio supports a maximum of four data breakpoints at any given time. Another important thing to notice is that some C run-time functions modify memory in kernel space which does not trigger the data breakpoint. For instance, calling ReadFile on a buffer that is monitored by a data breakpoint will not trigger the breakpoint. The application will now break at the address you specified it to. Often you might immediately spot the issue but the very least this feature can do is point you in the right direction in search for the real reason why the memory gets inadvertently modified. Conclusions Data breakpoints are a great feature, especially when doing a lot of low level operations where multiple locations modify the same data. With the exception of some special cases, like kernel memory modification, you can use it whenever you need to check when memory at a certain location gets changed on purpose or inadvertently.

  • Failed to unmount partitions

    - by msknapp
    I'm trying to install ubuntu from a pen drive. I have windows 7 installed already and want to keep that installation. I have a 3TB drive that has one 2TB partition on it, so the last 1TB is completely unused, which is where I want to install ubuntu. I started ubuntu in "try ubuntu" mode and then opened gparted, and then deleted the unused partition for the last third of my drive, then tried to install ubuntu. During the install, it asked me if I wanted to unmount the drives I already have The installer has detected that the following disks have mounted partitions: /dev/sda, /dev/sdb Do you want the installer to try to unmount the partitions on these disks before continuing? If you leave them mounted, you will not be able to create, delete, or resize partitions on these disks, but you may be able to install to existing partitions there. No, Yes I said no because I don't want to lose my windows 7 installation, nor any of that data. I wonder, if I had said yes above, would I have lost all the data on those drives? Anyways, I hit no and continued. I chose to install ubuntu alongside windows 7, and hit continue. A few minutes passed when this popup appeared: Failed to unmount partitions The installer needs to commit changes to partition tables, but cannot do so because the partitions on the following mount points could not be unmounted: /media/ubuntu/Three\ Terabyte Drive Terabyte\ DriveDrive Please close any applications using these mount points. Would you like the installer to try to unmount these partitions again? Go Back, Continue Why is this not working? What am I supposed to do? ========== Update: I went ahead and said yes, it can unmount those partitions. It finished installing Ubuntu, but now when i start my machine it just takes me to the grub rescue prompt. Seems like it broke something. The outgoing mails from Google Apps/Gmail to our own custom SMTP server are getting delayed by 1 hour consistently. mxtoolbox.com diagnostics of our custom SMTP server are looking OK. Our custom SMTP server is receiving emails from other sources (yahoo, hotmail etc.) on time. Looking at the SMTP logs show a delay in a google intermediate SMTP server. Here are are more details: We are using Google Apps to host our primary domain email (say: mydomain.com) The custom SMTP server (say: s1.mydomain.com) hosts our subdomain (say: sub.mydomain.com) This is how the email log looks from [email protected] to [email protected] Return-Path: [email protected] Received: from localhost.localdomain (LHLO s1.mydomain.com) (127.0.0.1) by s1.mydomain.com with LMTP; Thu, 27 Jan 2011 17:24:28 +0530 (IST) Received: from localhost (localhost.localdomain [127.0.0.1]) by s1.mydomain.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id 605116A6565 for <[email protected]>; Thu, 27 Jan 2011 17:24:28 +0530 (IST) X-Virus-Scanned: amavisd-new at sub.mydomain.com X-Spam-Flag: NO X-Spam-Score: 2.984 X-Spam-Level: ** X-Spam-Status: No, score=2.984 tagged_above=-10 required=6.6 t ests=[AWL=-0.337, BAYES_50=0.001, DNS_FROM_OPENWHOIS=1.13, FH_DATE_PAST_20XX=3.188, HTML_MESSAGE=0.001, HTML_OBFUSCATE_05_10=0.001, RCVD_IN_DNSWL_LOW=-1] autolearn=no Received: from s1.mydomain.com ([127.0.0.1]) by localhost (s1.mydomain.com [127.0.0.1]) (amavisd-new, port 10024) with ESMTP id RBjF7Wwr44mP for <[email protected]>; Thu, 27 Jan 2011 17:24:24 +0530 (IST) Received: from mail-qw0-f44.google.com (mail-qw0-f44.google.com [209.85.216.44]) by s1.mydomain.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id BB5DE6A6512 for <[email protected]>; Thu, 27 Jan 2011 17:24:23 +0530 (IST) Received: by qwi2 with SMTP id 2so1989393qwi.3 for <[email protected]>; Thu, 27 Jan 2011 03:54:23 -0800 (PST) MIME-Version: 1.0 Received: by 10.224.19.203 with SMTP id c11mr1587082qab.170.1296125657457; Thu, 27 Jan 2011 02:54:17 -0800 (PST) Received: by 10.220.117.17 with HTTP; Thu, 27 Jan 2011 02:54:17 -0800 (PST) Date: Thu, 27 Jan 2011 16:24:17 +0530 Message-ID: <[email protected]> Subject: test : 16:24 From: X <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Content-Type: multipart/alternative; boundary=0015175cba2865a5fe049ad1c5cd We appreciate any help that could help solve this issue :)

  • Can't manage iPod from linux anymore

    - by kemp
    I used to be able to see and manage my iPod with different softwares: Amarok, Rhythmbox, GTKPod. The device is a nano 1st generation 4gb. Currently it mounts regularly and can be accessed from the file system, but I get this in dmesg: [ 1547.617891] scsi 11:0:0:0: Direct-Access Apple iPod 1.62 PQ: 0 ANSI: 0 [ 1547.619103] sd 11:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg2 type 0 [ 1547.620478] sd 11:0:0:0: [sdb] Adjusting the sector count from its reported value: 7999488 [ 1547.620494] sd 11:0:0:0: [sdb] 7999487 512-byte hardware sectors: (4.09 GB/3.81 GiB) [ 1547.621718] sd 11:0:0:0: [sdb] Write Protect is off [ 1547.621726] sd 11:0:0:0: [sdb] Mode Sense: 68 00 00 08 [ 1547.621732] sd 11:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through [ 1547.623591] sd 11:0:0:0: [sdb] Adjusting the sector count from its reported value: 7999488 [ 1547.624993] sd 11:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through [ 1547.625003] sdb: sdb1 sdb2 [ 1547.629686] sd 11:0:0:0: [sdb] Attached SCSI removable disk [ 1548.084026] FAT: utf8 is not a recommended IO charset for FAT filesystems, filesystem will be case sensitive! [ 1610.092886] usb 2-6: USB disconnect, address 9 The only application that can access it (partially) is Rhythmbox. I say partially because I can transfer files to the iPod but can't remove or modify them. Also one transfer didn't finish and only 9 out of 16 songs were delivered to the device. All other softwares I tried (GTKPod, Amarok, Songbird) don't even detect it. What can I do to troubleshoot this? EDIT: # fdisk -l /dev/sdb Disk /dev/sdb: 4095 MB, 4095737344 bytes 241 heads, 62 sectors/track, 535 cylinders Units = cylinders of 14942 * 512 = 7650304 bytes Disk identifier: 0x20202020 Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sdb1 1 11 80293+ 0 Empty Partition 1 has different physical/logical beginnings (non-Linux?): phys=(0, 1, 1) logical=(0, 1, 2) Partition 1 has different physical/logical endings: phys=(9, 254, 63) logical=(10, 181, 8) Partition 1 does not end on cylinder boundary. /dev/sdb2 11 536 3919415+ b W95 FAT32 Partition 2 has different physical/logical beginnings (non-Linux?): phys=(10, 0, 7) logical=(10, 181, 15) Partition 2 has different physical/logical endings: phys=(497, 240, 62) logical=(535, 88, 61) EDIT2: The "before" state is hard to tell, it was a lot of updates ago. Haven't been using my iPod for a while so I can't say when exactly it stopped working. I'm sure Amarok was still at version 1.X but can't remember when it was. My current system is debian testing fully updated. NOTE: just noticed that if I mount the device manually instead of letting nautilus automount it, I can see it again on GTKPod but still not on Banshee AND it's vanished from Rhythmbox...
