• UISearchBarDisplayController - Fixed SearchBar

  I've been trying to get UISearchBarDisplayController to not animate, and stay fixed below the navigation bar. Is this even possible, I've been getting some weird results. This is all configured through a storyboard. I am just trying to figure out If I should just create my own implementation of UISearchBarDisplayController since it kinda seems a little impossible to customize it to my need. Clicking the search box When I start searching the top has extra paddding (20pt). It's assuming its on top of the origin y: 0 to prevent overlapping of status bar. I can't click outside or the cancel, x buttons. What happens If I click cancel, before searching

• Rails - Sending XML or JSON

  I'm new to Rails and trying to send a request to Chargify to cancel a subscription. Their API says I need to send the method DELETE to a xml URL. This isn't a Chargify based question but rather... how would I have a user click a button that then generates this request and sends it within my Rails app? • ActionScript - One Button Limit (Exclusive Touch) For Mobile Devices?

  two years ago, when i was developing an application for the iPhone, i used the following built-in system method on all of my buttons: [button setExclusiveTouch:YES]; essentially, if you had many buttons on screen, this method insured that the application wouldn't be permitted do crazy things when several button events firing at the same time. problematic: ButtonA and ButtonB are available. each button has a mouse up event which fire a specific reorganization/layout of the UI. if both button's events are fired at the same time, their events will likely conflict, causing a strange new layout, perhaps a runtime error. solution: application buttons cancel any current pending mouse up events when said button enters mouse down. private function mouseDownEventHandler(evt:MouseEvent):void { //if other buttons are currently in a mouse down state ready to fire //a mouse up event, cancel them all here. } of course it's simple to manually handle this if there are only a few buttons on stage, but managing buttons becomes more and more complicated / bug-prone if there are several / many buttons available. is there a convenience method available in AIR specifically for this functionality?

  SQL Server (2012 Enterprise) Browser service failing I have a problem as described below: I have an instance of SQL Server 2012 Enterprise (thanks to MSDN) for local development on my PC. I try to start SQL server Browser Service from SQL Server Configuration Manager and it takes a long time to fail, then fails with: The request failed or the service did not respond in a timely fashion. Consult the event log or other applicable error logs for details. I checked event logs and found these errors in this order (all within the same 1-second time frame): The SQL Server Browser service port is unavailable for listening, or invalid. The SQL Server Browser service was unable to establish SQL instance and connectivity discovery. The SQL Server Browser is enabling SQL instance and connectivity discovery support. The SQL Server Browser service was unable to establish Analysis Services discovery. The SQL Server Browser service has started. The SQL Server Browser service has shutdown. I checked firewall rules and both port 1433 (TCP) and 1434 (UDP) are wide open, just as well - the programs and service binary had been "allowed through windows firewall". I started the "Analysis Services" service by hand and it works fine. Browser still won't start. Some History: Installed SQL 2008 R2 express advanced Installed SQL2012 Express advanced Uninstalled SQL 2008 R2 express advanced Installed 2012 SSDT and lots of features with Express install Installed a unique instance of SQL 2012 Enterprise with all features Uninstalled SSDT and reinstalled SSDT with Enterprise (solved a different problem) Uninstalled SQL 2012 Express Uninstalled SQL 2012 Enterprise Removed anything with "SQL" in the name from Control panel "Programs and features" Installed SQL 2012 Enterprise without Analysis services (This is where I noticed SQL Browser service was failing to start even on the install) Added the feature of Analysis Services (and everything else) via the installer (Browser continued to fail to start on the install) ======================== Other interesting facts: opening a command window with administrator and trying to run sqlbrowser.exe manually yielded: Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601] Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. A possible approach would be to somehow really uninstall everything and delete all files related to SQL... is that a good idea, and how do I do that?

  Do you make it a habit of falling asleep at night while watching Windows Media Center? Today we are going to take a look at the MC7 Sleep Timer for Windows 7 Media Center. This simple little plugin allows you to schedule an automatic shutdown time in Media Center. Note: At this point MC7 Sleep Timer doesn’t work with extenders. If you’re using ClamAV or Panda it may detect this plugin as a virus, we’ve tested it and this is a false positive for these two antivirus apps. Installation and Usage Download and install MC7 Sleep Timer. (See download below) After the installation is finished, you will find MC7 Sleep Timer located in the Media Center Extras Library. Click on the tile to open the timer and configure your settings. The MC7 Sleep Timer will open in full screen mode. You can choose to shutdown the PC after 30 or 60 minutes, create a custom length shutdown timer at any 5 minute interval, or select the exact time you want the PC to shutdown.  After setting your PC to shutdown, you’ll get an audio confirmation. To set a custom timer length, scroll to the “Custom timer” option and click right or left on your Media Center remote or, the right or left arrow keys, to choose how many minutes before shutdown. To schedule a shutdown for a certain time, browse to the “Shutdown at time” button, and scroll right or left with the arrow keys on the keyboard or remote. When you’ve chosen your time, hit “Enter” on the keyboard or “OK” on the remote.   Clicking the “Monitor Off” button will turn off only the monitor and “Cancel Timer” will cancel your shutdown request.   Here's a fairly average scenario, using JSF as an example, but this same concept I have observed in ASP.NET, Apache Wicket, and other frameworks with ajax capabilities. <h:inputText id="text1" value="#{myBacker.myBean.myStringVar}" styleClass="goodCSS"> <f:ajax event="change" listener="#{myBacker.text1ChangeEventMethod}" update="someOtherField" /> </h:inputText> <h:selectBooleanCheckbox id="check1" value="#{myBacker.myBean.myBoolVar}" /> Let's suppose that the 'text1ChangeEventListener' is essential to 'someOtherField' and perhaps toggles its disabled attribute, or changes its available options, based on the value of 'myStringVar.' The particulars aren't important, let's just accept that for some reason we need an ajax call when the 'text1' value is changed. So Jane User is working her way down the form. She arrives at the 'text1' field and types some value. The cursor focus is still in the text field, as she moves her mouse to the 'check1' box and clicks. It appears to her that nothing has happened. She clicks again, and this time the checkbox highlights and the icon indicating a selection appears in the box. Jane has to do several entries in the form today, and sees this happen every time, and it becomes very frustrating for her. Likewise, Jeff Admin is also perusing this form, and begins to type in 'text1.' He then realizes he doesn't really want to enter this data, and so moves his mouse to the "cancel" button elsewhere on the page, and clicks. Nothing seems to happen. Jeff clicks again, and after confirming he really does want to cancel, is returned to the home page. Jeff scratches his head. The problem is simply that the first thing the system does after 'text1' looses focus is run the listener and perform the ajax operation. It may only take a fraction of a second, but still, you can click other buttons all you want, but until that ajax has finished, everything else is ignored. I've spent the morning searching and reading, and it seems no one else has even noticed this. I could find not one article, blog, past question here or at SO, or anyting that addresses this obvious and glaring deficiency in ajax. So first of all, am I truly alone in thinking this is a big problem? Second, does anyone have a solution?

If a background operation did try to modify the workspace, the UI thread would be blocked if the user explicitly performed an operation that modified the workspace and, even worse, the user would not be able to cancel the operation. A further complication with concurrency was that the interaction between the independent locking mechanisms of different plug-ins often resulted in deadlock situations. • Swap is encrypted or not?

  I selected to encrypt home folder while install lubuntu 12.10 (64 bit) But after that 'sometimes' I get error that can not find /dev/mapper/cryptswap1 wait for mount or cancel at slpash screen. It then start the lubuntu without any problem. If i do sudo blkid | grep swap [sudo] password for abhijit: /dev/mapper/cryptswap1: UUID="fce3ef14-a9c6-45ac-81f5-18ff415851b0" TYPE="swap" That means swap is encrypted. But if i go to gparted it shows unknown partition with red exclamation mark for swap.

• Emacs keybindings for texboxes in firefox?

  I'm so used to emacs that sometimes, when I'm typing something in a textbox in firefox, I sometimes try and do C-p to move up a line. It is seriously annoying to have to cancel a print dialog box every time I try and move about my text. If it's not horrendously complicated, I'd like to have keybindings that emulate emacs inside textboxes in firefox... Obviously, I wouldn't need all the keybindings, but movement, marking, killing and yanking would be useful. Is this an insane request?

  reciprical links cancel each other out from a search engines point of view but what counts as a recpirical link .. Do reciprical links work on a site level or an individual page level ? If you where to say get an in bound link from site-a.com to mysite.com and then linked back from blog.yoursite.com would that be reciprical. Im aware google sees subdomains as different domains all together but in this instance is that the same ?

  How do you handle incomplete feature requests, when the ones asking for the feature cannot possibly write a complete request? Consider an imaginary situation. You are a tech lead working on a piece of software that revolves around managing profiles (maybe they're contacts in a CRM-type application, or employees in an HR application), with many operations being directly or indirectly performed on those profiles — edit fields, add comments, attach documents, send e-mail... The higher-ups decide that a lock functionality should be added whereby a profile can be locked to prevent anyone else from doing any operations on it until it's unlocked — this feature would be used by security agents to prevent anyone from touching a profile pending a security audit. Obviously, such a feature interacts with many other existing features related to profiles. For example: Can one add a comment to a locked profile? Can one see e-mails that were sent by the system to the owner of a locked profile? Can one see who recently edited a locked profile? If an e-mail was in the process of being sent when the lock happened, is the e-mail sending canceled, delayed or performed as if nothing happened? If I just changed a profile and click the "cancel" link on the confirmation, does the lock prevent the cancel or does it still go through? In all of these cases, how do I tell the user that a lock is in place? Depending on the software, there could be hundreds of such interactions, and each interaction requires a decision — is the lock going to apply and if it does, how will it be displayed to the user? And the higher-ups asking for the feature probably only see a small fraction of these, so you will probably have a lot of questions coming up while you are working on the feature. How would you and your team handle this? Would you expect the higher-ups to come up with a complete description of all cases where the lock should apply (and how), and treat all other cases as if the lock did not exist? Would you try to determine all potential interactions based on existing specifications and code, list them and ask the higher-ups to make a decision on all those where the decision is not obvious? Would you just start working and ask questions as they come up? Would you try to change their minds and settle on a more easily described feature with similar effects? The information about existing features is, as I understand it, in the code — how do you bridge the gap between the decision-makers and that information they cannot access?

• Installer script removed a buch of 64-bit files and replaced them with 32-bit ones, how do I get them back?

  I ran this installer script to get some drivers for my printer, however I noticed that it started removing some of my programs, as well as 64-bit system files, and started replacing them with 32-bit ones! Luckily, I managed to cancel the operation before it did any serious damage. I also noticed that offical PPA's for 32-bit files were added. Should I remove them? So how do I get these files back?

Any idea why this is happening and how to solve this?

  With my current Internet connection, it will take about 18 hours to download all the files needed to upgrade from 12.04 to 12.10. Is there a way that I can first download the files in the background and then do the upgrade? Alternatively, if I use the graphical Distribution Upgrade tool via Update Manager, can I Cancel halfway through the downloads and start again where I left off, or will it delete the files it's downloaded so far?

• Upgraded AGPM Server cannot connect to relocated archive

  We were using the Advanced Group Policy Management (AGPM) v3.0 on out Windows Server 2008 DC. It kept the archive on the C: drive. When we upgraded to AGPM v4 we relocated the archive to the D: drive. Now when we try to look at a GPO's hisory in GPMC we get the following error Failed to connect to the AGPM Server. The following error occurred: The server was unable to process the request due to an internal error. For more information about the error, either turn on IncludeExceptionDetailInFaults (either from ServiceBehaviorAttribute or from the configuration behavior) on the server in order to send the exception information back to the client, or turn on tracing as per the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 SDK documentation and inspect the server trace logs. System.ServiceModel.FaultException (80131501) You are able to click Retry or Cancel. Retry brings up the same error and Cancel takes you back to GPMC and the History tab displays "Archive not found". I installed the client on a Windows 7 computer (which is a n unsupported set up) and it could read the server archive without any issues. I followed the TechNet article "Move the AGPM Server and the Archive" but that didn't make a difference How can I tell the server where the archive is?

• You need to format the disk in drive

  I was copying some files over to my external hard disk and suddenly a message popped up saying that some file was open and it could not continue.It asks me whether I want to cancel the operation and I said cancel(The other operation was continue.) After that whenever I plug in the usb into the same computer it does not work. It keeps saying that I need to format the disk to continue. Luckily for me it opened on another computer and am backing up all my data. But now I am wondering why exactly this happened. Is it that the hard disk is weak. Also as an addon I currently use http://www.dtidata.com/windowssurfacescanner/ program to check for bad sectors. Is this the recommended way or is there some other better more reliable way to check if my hard disk is failing? Also could the above problem be because the hard disk is failing? If not why does it happen.Even if the hard disk is interrupted in the middle of a read write cycle doesnt there exist error handling code to enable gracefull recovery?

Unfortunately it backs up the file to the same directory as the original. Is there a simple way to change this directory to another drive / folder? I have messed about with macros to do this, coming up with: Private Sub Workbook_BeforeClose(Cancel As Boolean) 'Private Sub Workbook_BeforeSave(ByVal SaveAsUI As Boolean, Cancel As Boolean) 'Saves the current file to a backup folder and the default folder 'Note that any backup is overwritten Application.DisplayAlerts = False ActiveWorkbook.SaveCopyAs Filename:="T:\TEC_SERV\Backup file folder - DO NOT DELETE\" & _ ActiveWorkbook.Name ActiveWorkbook.Save Application.DisplayAlerts = True End Sub This creates a backup of the file ok the first time, however if this is tried again I get: Run-Time Error '1004'; Microsoft Office Excel cannot access the file 'T:\TEC_SERV\Backup file folder - DO NOT DELETE\Test Macro Sheet.xlsm. There are several possible reasons: The file name or path does not exist The file is being used by another program The workbook you are trying to save has the same name as a... I know the path is correct, I also know that the file is not open anywhere else. The workbook has the same name as the one I'm trying to save over but it should just overwrite. • Oracle: Getting ORA-01195 and ORA-01110 when attempting resetlogs

  I am trying to get our database to startup. When I login to sqlplus and do a startup, I get the message: Total System Global Area 534462464 bytes Fixed Size 2215064 bytes Variable Size 331350888 bytes Database Buffers 192937984 bytes Redo Buffers 7958528 bytes Database mounted. ORA-01589: must use RESETLOGS or NORESETLOGS option for database open So I do a shutdown, startup mount (which works fine) and then run: SQL> alter database recover using backup controlfile until cancel; alter database recover using backup controlfile until cancel * ERROR at line 1: ORA-00283: recovery session canceled due to errors ORA-19909: datafile 1 belongs to an orphan incarnation ORA-01110: data file 1: '/<path>/system01.dbf' SQL> alter database open resetlogs; alter database open resetlogs * ERROR at line 1: ORA-01195: online backup of file 1 needs more recovery to be consistent ORA-01110: data file 1: '/<path>/system01.dbf' I know I've used instructions to get me past this error before, but I seem to be having trouble tracking it down. A bit of history: We wanted to refresh the data in this from another db so we attempted to do a expdb/impdb into this instance. The impdb did not complete correctly and got an end of file error message in it and hung (I still have the message in a log if it's important). Since the instance would start at this point, we decided to use the hotbackup process we have to restore the db. The hotbackups are from another server/instance. We went through the same process 2 weeks ago. At the point of recreating the control file is where we got to the issue above.
