  • Nested <a> and <span> challenge

    - by PaddyO
    Hi all, Trying in vain to get a nested link working within a nested span. This is a working test page for the code below to explain what I'm trying to do. Any ideas on how to get this working in valid html? I guess it's either a nesting order or style syntax thing but I am at a loss. Any thoughts much appreciated. <div id="greyback"> <ul id="scrollbox"> <li class="listcat">List header</li> <li><a class="menu" href="#freeze">List item 1<span><b>This text has popped up because you have clicked the list item, which has an "a" tag and now has :focus. That "a" tag is the first of two.</b><br><br>What I am trying to do is to set the second "a" tag as a DIFFERENT "embedded" link in this box<span style="color: blue; background-color: yellow;">eg, here<a href="http://www.conservationenterprises.com" target="blank">This is the second (nested) "a" tag in this html nest. It is a link to an external site. Instead of this being an always-visible link, I want it to sit within the yellow box in the first span (click the List item 1 to display).</a></span> </a></span> </li> </a></span> </li> </ul> </div> and the CSS: #scrollbox {margin: 0 auto; margin-top: 1em; margin-bottom: 1em; width:19em; height:auto; max-height: 21em; overflow:auto; border-bottom: 0.1em solid #FFA500; border-top: 0.1em solid #FFA500;} #scrollbox a {float: left; color:#000000; text-decoration:none; width:18em; height: auto; margin-bottom: 0.5em; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 0.9em; text-align:left;} #scrollbox a.menu {} #scrollbox a span {display:none; position:absolute; left:0em; top:0;} #scrollbox a span img {float: right; border:0; max-width:7.5em;} #scrollbox a:hover {border: 0; color: #7ebb11; font-size:0.9em;} #scrollbox a:hover span {border: 0; color: #535353;} #scrollbox a span:focus {color: blue;} #scrollbox a:active {border:none; color: #535353; text-decoration: none;} #scrollbox a:focus {border:0em solid #000; outline:0;} #scrollbox a:active span, #scrollbox li a:active span, #scrollbox a:focus span, #scrollbox li a:focus span {display: block; width: 52.5em; min-height: 20em; height: auto; left: 1.5em; top:18em; z-index:10; font-size:0.9em; text-align: left; padding: 1em; padding-bottom: 0em; background-color: #c3FFe3; color: #535353; border: solid #FFA500 0.25em;} #scrollbox li a:active span span, #scrollbox li a:focus span span{display: block; width: auto; height: auto; min-height: 2em; left: 25em; top:10em; z-index:10; font-size:0.9em; text-align: left; padding: 1em; padding-bottom: 0em; background-color: transparent; color: #535353; border: dashed red 1px;} .ul#scrollbox {padding-left: 0.1em;} #scrollbox li {float:left; list-style: none; background: url(blank.png) no-repeat left center; margin-left: 0em; font-family:Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 0.9em;} #scrollbox li.listcat {float: left; text-align:left; width: 18em; margin-left: 0em; margin-top: 0.1em; margin-bottom: 0.3em; padding-top:0.5em; color: green; font-size: 0.9em; font-weight:bold;} Cheers Patrick.

  • Cache that always returns immediate response?

    - by Col Wilson
    I have a web service that takes a while to build a response despite being tuned as best I can. What I'd like is some sort of cache sitting in front of the service which would always return the last known value from the service, but at the same time pass the request back to the service to build an up to date response for the next request. I'm aware of the limitations that this puts on the freshness of the data, but you can assume that I'm happy to live with that. The technologies I'm using at present are python uwsgi via nginx, but that need not be a limit to any solution you might suggest. Col

  • Custom Response + HTTP status?

    - by Cristian Boariu
    Hi, I have a rest interface for my project. For one class i have a POST method where you can post an xml and i RETURN a custom response like: <userInvitation>Invalid email</userInvitation> if the email from the xml which was posted, was incorrect + other custom messages i have defined for different situations. For all of these the HTTP STATUS is automatically put on 200 (OK). Is there any way to change it? Ps: I know that i can throw a web application like : throw new WebApplicationException(Response.Status.BAD_REQUEST); but in this case my custom response is no more included. So i just want to return my custom error + 400 as http response. Thanks in advance.

  • How I can use X-editable pass value to backend and get response

    - by leonlong
    I am new to jquery, recently I tried to use X-editable to edit a table. after I edited it , I want to pass value to PHP for process, but when I want to return something else back with value, it will get an error. What I mean is usually we can get several response from PHP, but I can get it like that through this. $('#example').editable({ type: 'text', name: 'example', url: 'exprediction.php', ajaxOptions: { dataType: 'json' }, success: function(newValue) { var response = newValue.split("|"); value1 = response[0]; value2 = response[1]; //it did not work } });

  • Receiving a response through UDP

    - by Neo_b
    Hello. I have seen applications send a packet through UDP to an IP on some port and receiving a response. Which port does the response go to? (Btw, how can the router know that the response is for my PC, if there are no ports forwarded to my PC?) Greetings, Neo_b

  • How does Google manage to serve results so fast?

    - by Quintin Par
    I am building an autocomplete functionality for my site and the Google instant results are my benchmark. When I look at Google, the 50-60 ms response time baffle me. They look insane. In comparison here’s how mine looks like. To give you an idea my results are cached on the load balancer and served from a machine that has httpd slowstart and initcwnd fixed. My site is also behind cloudflare From a server side perspective I don’t think I can do anything more. Can someone help me take this 500 ms response time to 60ms? What more should I be doing to achieve Google level performance?

  • How complex/straightforward should my programming challenge response in an interview be? [closed]

    - by atraudes
    I've had a couple of interviews for programmer positions in the past couple of weeks, and just about all of them have presented me with programming challenges. Write a program with XX language that can solve XX puzzle or problem, etc. I've had no problem answering the questions. What I'm unsure about is what the depth and breadth my response should be. What would an ideal response look like? How much oomph and time should I spend on elements of the code that aren't crucial to it running (Comments, Javadoc, error handling, etc.)? What if I have 1 hour/6 hours/a whole weekend to spend on it? What are the most important aspects of my response to the interviewer? What's worked for you in the past or what worked on you as an interviewer? I'm definitely one of those folks that can go all out on a project and make it truly shine, but I don't want to give them the impression that I'm going to waste their time and money on stuff they may not want or care about. I have a sneaking feeling there is no "wrong" way to respond to the challenge; each response has a redeeming quality about it, and the goals of the interview are subjective. Regardless, I would love your thoughts and input on this.

  • Is there a way to return a response every x seconds or so to a single http request?

    - by luis
    I'm wondering if it's possible to send a response every second or so to a single http request. Like for example the client makes an http request, then the server sends a space character every second. This could be never ending or with a limit, for example a minute. I think the word 'response' is misleading in this context, since I don't necessarily mean an http response. The whole http response could be composed of the space characters, which would mean a single http response to a single http request, except that it is a minute long. I tried chunked encoding but I don't think it works, or at least my implementation's wrong.

  • HttpClient POST fails to submit the form + resulting string is cut-off (incomplete)

    - by Jayomat
    Hi, I'm writing an app to check for the bus timetable's. Therefor I need to post some data to a html page, submit it, and parse the resulting page with htmlparser. Though it may be asked a lot, can some one help me identify if 1) this page does support post/get (I think it does) 2) which fields I need to use? 3) How to make the actual request? this is my code so far: String url = "http://busspur02.aseag.de/bs.exe?Cmd=RV&Karten=true&DatumT=30&DatumM=4&DatumJ=2010&ZeitH=&ZeitM=&Suchen=%28S%29uchen&GT0=&HT0=&GT1=&HT1="; String charset = "CP1252"; System.out.println("startFrom: "+start_from); System.out.println("goTo: "+destination); //String tag.v List<NameValuePair> params = new ArrayList<NameValuePair>(); params.add(new BasicNameValuePair("HTO", start_from)); params.add(new BasicNameValuePair("HT1", destination)); params.add(new BasicNameValuePair("GTO", "Aachen")); params.add(new BasicNameValuePair("GT1", "Aachen")); params.add(new BasicNameValuePair("DatumT", day)); params.add(new BasicNameValuePair("DatumM", month)); params.add(new BasicNameValuePair("DatumJ", year)); params.add(new BasicNameValuePair("ZeitH", hour)); params.add(new BasicNameValuePair("ZeitM", min)); UrlEncodedFormEntity query = new UrlEncodedFormEntity(params, charset); HttpPost post = new HttpPost(url); post.setEntity(query); InputStream response = new DefaultHttpClient().execute(post).getEntity().getContent(); // Now do your thing with the facebook response. String source = readText(response,"CP1252"); Log.d(TAG_AVV,response.toString()); System.out.println("STREAM "+source); EDIT: This is my new code: try { HttpClient client = new DefaultHttpClient(); String getURL = "http://busspur02.aseag.de/bs.exe?SID=5FC39&ScreenX=1440&ScreenY=900&CMD=CR&Karten=true&DatumT="+day+"&DatumM="+month+"&DatumJ="+year+"&ZeitH="+hour+"&ZeitM="+min+"&Intervall=60&Suchen=(S)uchen&GT0=Aachen&T0=H&HT0="+start_from+"&GT1=Aachen&T0=H&HT1="+destination+""; HttpGet get = new HttpGet(getURL); HttpResponse responseGet = client.execute(get); HttpEntity resEntityGet = responseGet.getEntity(); if (resEntityGet != null) { //do something with the response Log.i("GET RESPONSE",EntityUtils.toString(resEntityGet)); } } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } But the output file is cut-off. If I do the same request in a browser I get like 14 different routes. Now the file suddenly stops and I only get 3 routes.... what's wrong? 04-30 12:19:12.362: INFO/GET RESPONSE(256): <!-- Ausgabebereich (automatisch erzeugt) --> 04-30 12:19:12.362: INFO/GET RESPONSE(256): <div align="center"> 04-30 12:19:12.362: INFO/GET RESPONSE(256): <p></p> 04-30 12:19:12.362: INFO/GET RESPONSE(256): <p>Ihr Fahrplan für die Verbindung von Aachen, Kaiserplatz nach Aachen, Karlsgraben am Freitag, den 30.04.2010 (Koniginnedag), Abfahrten ab 12:19 Uhr</p> 04-30 12:19:12.362: INFO/GET RESPONSE(256): <table class="Result"> 04-30 12:19:12.362: INFO/GET RESPONSE(256): <tr> 04-30 12:19:12.362: INFO/GET RESPONSE(256): <th class="fussnote">Fussnote</th> 04-30 12:19:12.362: INFO/GET RESPONSE(256): <th class="fahrzeug">Fahrzeug</th> 04-30 12:19:12.362: INFO/GET RESPONSE(256): <th class="abfahrt">Abfahrt</th> 04-30 12:19:12.362: INFO/GET RESPONSE(256): <th class="haltestellean">Haltestelle</th> 04-30 12:19:12.362: INFO/GET RESPONSE(256): <th class="linie">Linie</th> 04-30 12:19:12.362: INFO/GET RESPONSE(256): <th class="haltestelleab">Haltestelle</th> 04-30 12:19:12.362: INFO/GET RESPONSE(256): <th class="ankunft">Ankunft</th> 04-30 12:19:12.362: INFO/GET RESPONSE(256): <th class="fahrzeit">Fahrzeit/Tarif</th> 04-30 12:19:12.362: INFO/GET RESPONSE(256): </tr> 04-30 12:19:12.362: INFO/GET RESPONSE(256): <tr> 04-30 12:19:12.362: INFO/GET RESPONSE(256): <td>&nbsp;</td><td>&nbsp;<img src="http://www.busspur.de/logos/efa-bus.gif" title="Niederflurbus"></td><td>12:23</td><td title="lc0">Aachen, Kaiserplatz [Heinrichsalle Ri. The reason for integrating this filter comes from Spring security FAQs: I'm using Tomcat (or some other servlet container) and have enabled HTTPS for my login page, switching back to HTTP afterwards. It doesn't work - I just end up back at the login page after authenticating. This happens because sessions created under HTTPS, for which the session cookie is marked as “secure”, cannot subsequently be used under HTTP. The browser will not send the cookie back to the server and any session state will be lost (including the security context information). Starting a session in HTTP first should work as the session cookie won't be marked as secure.

  • SSL / HTTP / No Response to Curl

    - by Alex McHale
    I am trying to send commands to a SOAP service, and getting nothing in reply. The SOAP service is at a completely separate site from either server I am testing with. I have written a dummy script with the SOAP XML embedded. When I run it at my local site, on any of three machines -- OSX, Ubuntu, or CentOS 5.3 -- it completes successfully with a good response. I then sent the script to our public host at Slicehost, where I fail to get the response back from the SOAP service. It accepts the TCP socket and proceeds with the SSL handshake. I do not however receive any valid HTTP response. This is the case whether I use my script or curl on the command line. I have rewritten the script using SOAP4R, Net::HTTP and Curb. All of which work at my local site, none of which work at the Slicehost site. I have tried to assemble the CentOS box as closely to match my Slicehost server as possible. I rebuilt the Slice to be a stock CentOS 5.3 and stock CentOS 5.4 with the same results. When I look at a tcpdump of the bad sessions on Slicehost, I see my script or curl send the XML to the remote server, and nothing comes back. When I look at the tcpdump at my local site, I see the response just fine. I have entirely disabled iptables on the Slice. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing these results? Please let me know what additional information I can furnish. Thank you! Below is a wire trace of a sample session. The IP that starts with 173 is my server while the IP that starts with 12 is the SOAP server's. • How to disable windows server 2008 timestamp response

    - by Cal
    Posted this question on stackoverflow but then got instructed to post it here: I was using Rapid7's Nexpose to scan one of our web servers (windows server 2008), and got a vulnerability for timestamp response. According to Rapid7, timestamp response shall be disabled: http://www.rapid7.com/db/vulnerabilities/generic-tcp-timestamp So far I have tried several things: Edit the registry, add a "Tcp1323Opts" key to HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters, and set it to 0. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc938205.aspx Use this command: netsh int tcp set global timestamps=disabled Tried powershell command: Set-netTCPsetting -SettingName InternetCustom -Timestamps disabled (got error: Set-netTCPsetting : The term 'Set-netTCPsetting' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or operable program. Check the spelling of the name, or if a path was included, verify that the path is correct and try again.) None of above attempts was successful, after re-scan we still got the same alert. Rapid7 suggested using a firewall that's capable of blocking it, but we want to know if there is a setting on windows to achieve it. Is it through a specific port? If yes, what is the port number? If not, could you suggest a 3rd party firewall that is capable of blocking it? Thank you very much.

  • BlazeDS first response is VERY SLOW

    - by chibban
    Hi everyone, I have a very strange an annoying problem: I have an appliaction written in Flex 3, with BlazeDS 3.2 and Java in the backend. I'm actually using a portal (liferay) to display portlets that contain Flex movies. When I hit a refresh button on my page, all the Flex movies send a RemoteObject request to the server (using BlazeDS), which should go to java classes and invoke a method (standard BlazeDS usage I 'm guessing). I'm experiencing VERY slow response (14 minutes) on the first hit, while the following hits are much faster. I've enabled the BlazeDS logging (logging level="All") and I also have debug prints coming from my java classes. I also use the "showBusyCursor" attribute for the RemoteObject - so I can see indication of the request being sent from the flex movie. Here is what I see: I hit the refresh button Each movie invokes a RemoteObject request I see a busy sign - in all the movies I see nothing in the log - no BlazeDS prints and no Java prints Wait 14 minutes or so I see BlazeDS prints followed by Java prints I see data populating my flex movies. The really weird thing is that I have the same "application" installed in 4 different computers (on my laptop and in 3 other unix machines), 3 of these installations work well (good response times) and only 1 has the issue I'm describing. I've tried many things, but everything failed. I'd be really happy to get some advice on this. Thanks

  • Squid3 not caching simple request and response

    - by Nick Spacek
    Hi folks, I've pared down my squid.conf to try to figure this out: http_port 80 accel defaultsite=host.to.cache cache_peer ip.to.cache parent 80 0 no-query originserver acl our_sites dstdomain host.to.cache http_access allow our_sites refresh_pattern . 1 20% 4320 Requests are being proxied correctly, so that's a start. Here's a request: GET http://host.to.cache/path?some_param=true Accept: */* Accept-Charset: ISO-8859-1,utf-8 Accept-Encoding: gzip,deflate,sdch Accept-Language: en-US,en Connection: keep-alive Host: host.to.cache User-Agent: myuseragent And the response: Connection: keep-alive Content-Length: 585 Content-Type: application/xml Date: Thu, 06 Jan 2011 18:33:11 GMT Via: 1.0 localhost (squid/3.0.STABLE19) X-Cache: MISS from localhost X-Cache-Lookup: MISS from localhost:80 The response has no caching-related headers, but I thought that refresh_pattern would set a default behavior for responses without caching-related headers. For my test, I wanted to cache everything for one minute at minimum. Am I missing something obvious? I did take a peek at this question: Squid isn't caching ...and ran through the page here: http://www.mnot.net/cache_docs/ briefly, but didn't see anything relevant (not to say that there isn't, I could have missed something). Thanks for any help.

  • PHP Causing Segmentation Fault & Apache Blank Response

    - by Joe
    I recently updated a Debian Lenny server to php 5.3,5 using the dotdeb source. Soon after doing so certain (but not all) sites on the server stopped responding to requests. A blank response would be returned - no headers, no content, nothing. I found this related question on stackoverflow which seems to describe something similar and used the same code the user had in their answer to see if I could replicate the issue: <?php class A { public function __construct() { new B; } } class B { public function __construct() { new A; } } new A; print 'Loaded Class A'; ?> This triggered the problem - the page returned absolutely nothing despite the original question stating this was fixed in PHP 5.5.0. No CPU block as you'd expect, no wait, just an almost instant zero response. I then ran this same code from the cli (php -f test.php) and the only output I got was 'Segmentation fault'. Tailing the kernel log I've spotted: Feb 16 07:04:06 creature kernel: [192203.269037] php[17710] general protection ip:76ef37 sp:7fff155e9bb0 error:0 in php5[400000+870000] Feb 16 08:57:31 creature kernel: [199639.699854] apache2[31136]: segfault at 7fff13a84fe0 ip 7f730514ea40 sp 7fff13a85008 error 6 in libphp5.so[7f7304ce8000+915000] All extremely odd and I'm not sure what it's pointing to/what I should do to debug this further. As I said some sites work but code such as the above definitely trigger it. Not that the sites I want to server have code like that - it's just an example. Any help is much appreciated!

  • Understanding tcptraceroute versus http response

    - by kojiro
    I'm debugging a web server that has a very high wait time before responding. The server itself is quite fast and has no load, so I strongly suspect a network problem. Basically, I make a web request: wget -O/dev/null http://hostname/ --2013-10-18 11:03:08-- http://hostname/ Resolving hostname... 10.9.211.129 Connecting to hostname|10.9.211.129|:80... connected. HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 200 OK Length: unspecified [text/html] Saving to: ‘/dev/null’ 2013-10-18 11:04:11 (88.0 KB/s) - ‘/dev/null’ saved [13641] So you see it took about a minute to give me the page, but it does give it to me with a 200 response. So I try a tcptraceroute to see what's up: $ sudo tcptraceroute hostname 80 Password: Selected device en2, address 192.168.113.74, port 54699 for outgoing packets Tracing the path to hostname (10.9.211.129) on TCP port 80 (http), 30 hops max 1 192.168.113.1 0.842 ms 2.216 ms 2.130 ms 2 10.141.12.77 0.707 ms 0.767 ms 0.738 ms 3 10.141.12.33 1.227 ms 1.012 ms 1.120 ms 4 10.141.3.107 0.372 ms 0.305 ms 0.368 ms 5 12.112.4.41 6.688 ms 6.514 ms 6.467 ms 6 cr84.phlpa.ip.att.net (12.122.107.214) 19.892 ms 18.814 ms 15.804 ms 7 cr2.phlpa.ip.att.net (12.122.107.117) 17.554 ms 15.693 ms 16.122 ms 8 cr1.wswdc.ip.att.net (12.122.4.54) 15.838 ms 15.353 ms 15.511 ms 9 cr83.wswdc.ip.att.net (12.123.10.110) 17.451 ms 15.183 ms 16.198 ms 10 12.84.5.93 9.982 ms 9.817 ms 9.784 ms 11 12.84.5.94 14.587 ms 14.301 ms 14.238 ms 12 10.141.3.209 13.870 ms 13.845 ms 13.696 ms 13 * * * … 30 * * * I tried it again with 100 hops, just to be sure – the packets never get there. So how is it that the server does respond to requests via http, even after a minute? Shouldn't all requests just die? I'm not sure how to proceed debugging why this server is slow (as opposed to why it responds at all).

  • Force request to miss cache but still store the response

    - by Tom Marthenal
    I have a slow web app that I've placed Varnish in front of. All of the pages are static (they don't vary for a different user), but they need to be updated every 5 minutes so they contain recent data. I have a simple script (wget --mirror) that crawls the entire website every 15 minutes. Each crawl takes about 5 minutes. The point of the crawl is to update every page in the Varnish cache so that a user never has to wait for the page to generate (since all pages have been generated recently thanks to the spider). The timeline looks like this: 00:00:00: Cache flushed 00:00:00: Spider starts crawling to update cache with new pages 00:05:00: Spider finishes crawling, all pages are updated until 1:15 A request that comes in between 0:00:00 and 0:05:00 might hit a page that hasn't been updated yet, and will be forced to wait a few seconds for a response. This isn't acceptable. What I'd like to do is, perhaps using some VCL magic, always foward requests from the spider to the backend, but still store the response in the cache. This way, a user will never have to wait for a page to generate since there is no 5-minute window in which parts of the cache are empty (except perhaps at server startup). How can I do this?

  • Empty $upstream_http_location variable if response was cached

    - by Ivaldi
    I would like to cache the response of an redirect. (Cache the request to some site which returns a redirect and cache the second request which returns the actual content.) So far my config looks like this: location = /proxy { error_page 301 302 307 = @redir; resolver 8.8.8.8; proxy_pass $arg_url; proxy_intercept_errors on; proxy_cache pcache; proxy_cache_key $arg_url; proxy_cache_valid 200 301 302 307 1d; proxy_cache_min_uses 1; proxy_ignore_client_abort on; proxy_ignore_headers Set-Cookie Expires Cache-Control; } location @redir { resolver 8.8.8.8; # we need to assign $upstream_http_location to another var in order to use it with proxy_pass set $target $upstream_http_location; proxy_pass $target; proxy_cache predirects; proxy_cache_key $upstream_http_location; proxy_cache_valid 200 301 302 307 1d; proxy_cache_min_uses 1; proxy_ignore_headers Set-Cookie Expires Cache-Control; } It works for the first request or without the 30x codes for proxy_cache_valid in the /proxy part, but $target and $upstream_http_location are empty, if the response was cached. Is there a nice solution to cache both requests? Thanks!

  • Strlen of MAX 16 chars string using bitwise operators

    - by fabrizioM
    The challenge is to find the fastest way to determine in C/C++ the length of a c-string using bitwise operations in C. char thestring[16]; The c-string has a max size of 16 chars and is inside a buffer If the string is equal to 16 chars doesn't have the null byte at the end. I am sure can be done but didn't got it right yet. I am working on this at the moment, but assuming the string is memcpied on a zero-filled buffer. len = buff[0] != 0x0 + buff[1] != 0x0 + buff[2] != 0x0 + buff[3] != 0x0 + buff[4] != 0x0 + buff[5] != 0x0 + buff[6] != 0x0 + buff[7] != 0x0 + buff[8] != 0x0 + buff[9] != 0x0 + buff[10] != 0x0 + buff[11] != 0x0 + buff[12] != 0x0 + buff[13] != 0x0 + buff[14] != 0x0 + buff[15] != 0x0;

  • How can one make a web-site accessible only when someone has a dongle?

    - by Brian M. Hunt
    Suppose you want to add an extra layer of credentials on top of a SSL-encrypted login/password, but you don't want to increase complexity to the user. Is there a way to add the requirement of the possession of a dongle to web-server authentication schemes with existing cross-platform browser capabilities? In other words, to get access to the web-site, you would need a username, password, and a USB dongle that has been plugged into the client computer. The dongle would presumably do some sort of challenge/response. It'd be ideal if this dongle solution worked with Firefox automatically or with the simple addition of a plugin. Thoughts and suggestions are appreciated.

  • reloading page while an ajax request in progress gives empty response and status as zero

    - by Jayapal Chandran
    Hi, Browser is firefox 3.0.10 I am requesting a page using ajax. The response is in progress may be in readyState less than 4. In this mean time i am trying to reload the page. What happens is the request ends giving an empty response. I used alert to find what string has been given as response text. I assume that by this time the ready state 4 is reached. why it is empty string. when i alert the xmlhttpobject.status it displayed 0. when i alert the xmlhttpobject.statusText an exception occurs stating that NOT AVAILABLE. when i read in the document http://www.devx.com/webdev/Article/33024/0/page/2 it said for 3 and 4 status and statusText are available but when i tested only status is available but not satausText Here is a sample code. consider that i have requested a page and my callback function is as follows function cb(rt) { if(rt.readyState==4) { alert(rt.status); alert(rt.statusText); // which throws an exception } } and my server side script is as follows sleep(30); //flushing little drop down code besides these i noticed the following... assume again i am requesting the above script using ajax. now there will be an idle time till 30 seconds is over before that 30 seconds i press refresh. i got xmlhttpobject.status as 0 but still the browser did not reload the page untill that 30 seconds. WHY? so what is happening when i refresh a page before an ajax request is complete is the status value is set to zero and the ready state is set to 4 but the page still waits for the response from the server to end... what is happening... THE REASON FOR ME TO FACE SOME THING LIKE THIS IS AS FOLLOWS. when ever i do an ajax request ... if the process succeeded like inserting some thing or deleting something i popup a div stating that updated successfully and i will reload the page. but if there is any error then i do not reload the page instead i just alert that unable to process this request. what happens if the user reloads the page before any of this request is complete is i get an empty response which in my calculation is there is a server error. so i was debugging the ajax response to filter out that the connection has been interrupted because the user had pressed reload. so in this time i don't want to display unable to process this request when the user reloads the page before the request has been complete. oh... a long story. IT IS A LONG DESCRIPTION SO THAT I CAN MAKE EXPERTS UNDERSTAND MY DOUBT. so what i want form the above. any type of answer would clear my mind. or i would like to say all type of answers. EDIT: 19 dec. If i did not get any correct answer then i would delete this question and will rewrite with examples. else i will accept after experimenting.
