  I had to switch servers and I want to redirect all SSL urls to the non-ssl site. • Recording slow web stream

  I'm trying to record an mpeg2 video stream from a website that doesn't have the greatest bandwidth. The video often buffers. I want to download the stream and watch it offline. The extract stream format received is: Stream #0.0[0x44]: Audio: mp2, 48000 Hz, stereo, s16, 192 kb/s Stream #0.1[0x45]: Video: mpeg2video (Main), yuv420p, 704x576 [PAR 16:11 DAR 16:9], 15000 kb/s, 27.19 fps, 25 tbr, 90k tbn, 50 tbc I use the following tool to transocde the stream: ffmpeg -i "http://url" -y -vcodec libx264 -b 3000k -acodec copy /tmp/stream.mp4 Unfortunately after a few seconds ffmpeg stops recording with an error [mpegts @ 0x1f0b9c0] PES packet size mismatch [mp2 @ 0x1f14640] incomplete frame Error while decoding stream #0.0 [mpeg2video @ 0x1f16860] ac-tex damaged at 0 26 [mpeg2video @ 0x1f16860] Warning MVs not available I've tried encoding with vlc as well with similar issues.   I can't access http://developers.facebook.com on OS X Lion 10.7.1 in any way. Safari: Safari can't open the page because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection Chrome: Error 101 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET): The connection was reset Firefox: The connection was reset. The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. The problem might have been caused by DNS/cache and so on, so I tried the following but to no avail: Deleted cache/DNS Created a dummy user account on my Mac Reinstalled the OS (through the Internet and all my settings remain intact) Do you have any suggestions other than a fresh reinstallation of my Mac?

• System speakers not recognized

  Since upgrading to Xubuntu 13.10, sound has not functioned properly (e.g. screeching when playing Skype notifications). Now, however, it does not function at all. pavucontrol only shows Dummy Output and does not recognize the built-in speakers on my Dell Precision M4600. Possibly related, the sound indicator applet does not come up when I click on it, only showing a small white bar underneath it. • How to stop basic Postfix after-queue script from BCC-ing sender?

  I'm building a content filter for Postfix (2.9.3 package installed via apt on an Ubuntu 12.04 test VM) and I'm starting with a very basic Ruby (1.9.3) template and building up functionality. Strangely, when the script is enabled, messages sent are being forwarded on as normal, but also sent back to the sender which is not normal. Disabling the script disables this behavior. Any suggestions about what I have to change to stop that from happening? • Word document has very strange "hidden" formating after converting from PDF to .docx

  I have a PDF document with my resume which I need to edit. I used this service to convert it to doc. I opened it in Word 2010 and saved it as .docx. There are some bizzare problems where there's empty space and if you try to delete it text gets shifted into vertical columns. How can I fix this? I'm afraid this document has a lot of private information and I can't just fill in dummy text, then the formatting gets even more messed up :/ Otherwise I'd post screen shots.

• TDD with SQL and data manipulation functions

  While I'm a professional programmer, I've never been formally trained in software engineering. As I'm frequently visiting here and SO, I've noticed a trend for writing unit tests whenever possible and, as my software gets more complex and sophisticated, I see automated testing as a good idea in aiding debugging. However, most of my work involves writing complex SQL and then processing the output in some way. How would you write a test to ensure your SQL was returning the correct data, for example? Then, say if the data wasn't under your control (e.g., that of a 3rd party system), how can you efficiently test your processing routines without having to hand write reams of dummy data? The best solution I can think of is making views of the data that, together, cover most cases. I can then join those views with my SQL to see if it's returning the correct records and manually process the views to see if my functions, etc. are doing what they're supposed to. Still, it seems excessive and flakey; particularly finding data to test against...

I want to iterate over all users (in users.csv), and in their home folder (e.g. /home/joe) find all php files recursively, and replace each occurrence of "commondb" with their own databasename, e.g. "joedb" for "joe". • Ubuntu 11.04: No Audio Output

  I installed a fresh copy of Ubuntu 11.04 earlier this week and I'm having trouble getting my audio online. It was working fine in 10.04 and all the resources I can find on troubleshooting seem to be fairly dated so I'm not sure if they apply. CMI8788 [Oxygen HD Audio] Analog Stereo Duplex Playing a WMA file shows 0.00db output when I mouse over the sound controller in the status bar. Obviously, no output from my speakers. I tried adjusting the profile, thinking I might have the wrong one. That seems to have made things worse. Where mouse over originally said something along the lines of "Oxygen HD Audio," it now reads "Dummy Output." Selecting "Test Speakers" in sound preferences crashes the dialog. Any pointers would be great.

  I'm a sys admin on Kubuntu 11.10 machine. Where do I configure the basic config for a new user (say belonging to group "users")? Edit 1: I want to configure langauages - currently my new users get English and Bulgarian Languages. I want them to get English and Russian - and also to set Alt-CapsLock - to be the input-language-switching-combination. Edit 2: How do I configure things in /usr/share/kde4 When I do kdesudo systemsettings and save configurations - only root settings got changed - not the /usr/share/kde4 ones. Edit 3: New user gets the /etc/skel files controlling bash behaviour-appearence. What about the KDE new user's default files - where are they stored? Edit 4: Oh, I found some hints: kde4-config --path config gives a list of folders (separated by the colon) where KDE looks for configs. My machine responded with: /home/boris/.kde/share/config/ /etc/kde4/ /usr/share/kubuntu-default-settings/kde4-profile/default/share/config/ /usr/share/kde4/config/ /usr/share/desktop-base/profiles/kde-profile/share/config/ It looks like third line is where KDE takes the default options. So I found these zilions of settings - but no GUI way to configure it ((. Edit 5: Finally, I've created a dummy user, configured it, and wrote a script which gives it's settings to a given user(s). The trick - is to chown after one transfered the dot files from one user to another. I've tested it - it works fine.

• How to block spam site republishing my content

  I noticed today that Google search results shows some spam copies of one of my sites. The url looks something like this: http://[subdomain].spamsite.com/www.example.com ...where example.com is my site. In my Apache access logs I'm noticing several lines like the following whenever I load the above url: 127.0.0.1 - - [219/Oct/2012:19:27:34 +0000] "OPTIONS * HTTP/1.0" 200 - "-" "Apache (internal dummy connection)" The spammer's site shows an exact up to date copy of my site, so I think they are pulling in live data. Any idea how I can block this traffic?

• Facebook - Isn't this a big vulnerability risk for users? (After Password Change)

  I would like to know you opinions as programmers / developers. When I changed my Facebook password yesterday, by mistake I entered the old one and got this: Am I missing something here or this is a big potencial risk for users. In my opinion this is a problem BECAUSE it is FaceBook and is used by, well, everyone and the latest statistics show that 76.3% of the users are idiots [source:me], that is more that 3/4!! All kidding aside: Isn't this useful information for an attacker? It reveals private information about the user! It could help the attacker gain access to another site in which the user used the same password Granted, you should't use use the same password twice (but remember: 76.3%!!!) Doesn't this simply increase the surface area for attackers? It increases the chances of getting useful information at least. In a site like Facebook 1st choice for hackers and (bad) people interested in valued personal information shouldn't anything increasing the chance of a vulnerability be removed? Am I missing something? Am I being paranoid? Will 76.3% of the accounts will be hacked after this post? Thanks in advance!! • How to unit test models in MVC / MVR app?

  I'm building a node.js web app and am trying to do so for the first time in a test driven fashion. I'm using nodeunit for testing, which I find allows me to write tests quickly and painlessly. In this particular app, the heavy lifting primarily involves translating SQL data into complex Javascript object and serving them to the front-end via json. Likewise, the app also spends a great deal of code validating and translating complex, multidimensional Javascript objects it receives from the front-end into SQL rows. Hence I have used a fat model design for the app -- most of the real code resides in the models, where the data translation happens. What's the best approach to test such models with unit tests? I mean in particular the methods that have create javascript objects from the SQL rows and serve them to the front-end. Right now what I'm doing is making particular requests of my models with the unit tests and checking the returned data for all of the fields that should be there. However I have a suspicion that this is not the most robust kind of testing I could be doing. My current testing design also means I have to package my app code with some dummy data so that my tests can anticipate the kind of data that the app should be returning when tests run.

  Hi, For the last 4 weeks, I have been trying to get into mobile development. Done a couple of tutorials, read some books, developed a couple of dummy Android apps. The thing is my computer is a 5 years old laptop, it is slow and time has come to replace it and I’m looking at different offers online. Have you got any recommendations? Is there any must-have that should make my developer life easier in the future? Is there anything specific that may be useful at a more advanced stage of development that I just can’t think of right now on the hardware side? (I mean apart from good proc, lots of RAM, many USB ports...) One thing I can think of is to have three OS on the same workstation: Windows, Unix and MacOS (so far I focused on android/java/eclipse but am interested in Iphone/objC/xcode as well) but that’s more on the software side. Anyway, would be grateful for any recommendations. Thanks in advance! • Create subdomains via C-Panel or via domain registrar?

  I am a novice, so excuse me if it sounds dummy. I read a few similar questions on this topic here but they did not answer my question. I have a personal website, hosted with C-panel control panel. Via C-panel I can easily create new subdomains and I do not need to apply any DNS settings or so. And the subdomian is good to go immediately and are working fine. I have unlimited subdomains option. When I check my DNS management control panel in my domain registrar's site, there is no record associated with my subdomains. Now I want to buy a new domain name from 1and1, and have it as an add-on domain in my prevouse host. 1and1 say they only allow 5 subdomains. What does this mean? Can not I create unlimited subdomains under my new domain name, just as I do for my old domain? How does C-panel create and manage subdomains that there is nothing about it in my DNS control panel? • Advertising on personalized pages behind a login

  I am currently building a web app which requires a user to log in. After they log in, they can see the content they've added to the web app, and things that the web app has done with the content they added. The URL structure won't differentiate different users (e.g. all user's 'homepage' would be example.com/home, not something like example.com/username/home). This is much the same way that Facebook works (all FB user's messages are at facebook.com/messages, for example). This presents a problem with advertising. I know that you can use AdSense behind a login, but as far as I'm aware, that's for things like forums, where everyone sees the same things (which wouldn't be the case in this site). I also know that I could put AdSense on the pages without allowing it to log in, which would produce inferior ads. I'm fairly certain it would be against the Terms of Service to give AdSense a login to a 'dummy' account with typical content, as it would not be seeing the same thing as every other user (which is impossible, as they all see different things). So, my question is: Is there an ad network, or other method, that can serve ads behind a login, maybe based on keywords rather than content?

• How to scrub a document of all text between brackets with find and replace

  I have a log file and I need to find all instances of <password> hash here </password> and remove the hash and replace it with some dummy text like aaa-aaa-aaa-aaaa. The recurring search argument is anything that matches a bracket that starts with <password> and ends with </password>. All the hashes being replaced will be different. What's the easiest way to go a bout this? The log is on a windows machine. Probably easiest would be to use MS word for me, unless it's achievable with wordpad, notepad, or some other light weight editor like textpad. thanks

• Audio not working in 12.10

  I did a clean install of 12.10, when I open Sound Settings in gnome the only device in the list is "Dummy Output", and sound is not working. Sound worked fine out of the box in 12.04 I ran alsamixer, it says my card is "HDA Intel", and chip is "Realtek ALC880". The alsamixer playback output was set to mute at first, unmuting did not fix. I checked out the info at http://www.unixmen.com/2012003-howto-resolve-nosound-problem-on-ubuntu/ as suggested on a similar question, I've done everything there except installing the ubuntu audio dev team driver. Should I try install this? • Can Camel Jetty proxy URL share the webapplication context

  I am struggling with Camel Jetty Proxy Routes. At times, the routes exhibits inconsistent behavior. My Proxy app deployed with context root "Proxy", however, if give that as the context path for my proxy URL I get service not found error. If change the Proxy to an arbitrary context such as "Dummy" then the route works. Is that how camel jetty component works? From Path: jetty:http://0.0.0.0:6080/Proxy/PurchaseOrder/?matchOnUriPrefix=true&disableStreamCache=true&traceEnabled=true To Path: jetty:http://localhost:7001/Provider/PurchaseOrder/?bridgeEndpoint=true&throwExceptionOnFailure=false Another issue i noticed with jetty is If deploy both Proxy and Provider on the same app container(same listening port), then the route completely stops working saying "Provider/PurchaseOrder/" service not found. The only way the routes work is, both routes have to run different ports and the from route shouldn't share the webcontext path. • How to setup a fake SMTP server to catch all mails?

  I'm looking for an smtp service that essentially obeys the RFC, except rather than sending mail it simply logs to a file [date] sent mail to <address> Or whatever. I can bash this together with the bare minimum of functionality I need in python in about half an hour I reckon but if there's an existing project that works better I'd rather use that. The reason for needing it is debugging an app that keeps sending 7* the amount of mail it's supposed to. Slightly offtopic, but if there isn't already such a project, and I write it, is this something other people would use? If I publish the source will it get used? • Change domain password from non-domain computer (AD)

  I have a domain controller on Windows Server 2008. When I set up my users, I gave them all a dummy password with the "must change on next login" checked. Everyone's machine is all on the same network as the domain controller, but we are not forcing them to join their computers to the domain. The DC has a website which requires the use of domain accounts to access it. How do I tell my users to change their domain passwords without connecting their PC to the domain or making them log in to a machine on the domain? I do not want anything I will have to install on each client to allow them to change their passwords (I have a password expiration policy). Most of these workstations are XP.

However, on a OS X Lion Server I'm testing out, I see this "auto-generated" language in the master.cf file: # ==== Begin auto-generated section ======================================== # This section of the master.cf file is auto-generated by the Server Admin # Mail backend plugin whenever mails settings are modified. smtp inet n - n - 1 postscreen smtpd pass - - n - - smtpd -o receive_override_options=no_address_mappings The problem is, to enable the filter the same area of the master.cf file has to be changed to have an entry like this: smtp inet n - - - - smtpd -o content_filter=mytest_filter:dummy So, it looks like the line would be blown away every I make a change in Server Admin. Is there a better place for me to put the call to the filter such that it's persistent? I appreciate any assistance and/or guidance!
