  • Why is this line breaking Rails with Passenger on DreamHost?

    - by Frew
Ok, so I have a Rails app set up on DreamHost and I had it working a while ago and now it's broken. I don't know a lot about deployment environments or anything like that so please forgive my ignorance. Anyway, it looks like the app is crashing at this line in config/environment.rb: require File.join(File.dirname(__FILE__), 'boot') config/boot.rb is pretty much normal, but I'll include it here anyway. # Don't change this file! # Configure your app in config/environment.rb and config/environments/*.rb RAILS_ROOT = "#{File.dirname(__FILE__)}/.." unless defined?(RAILS_ROOT) module Rails class << self def boot! unless booted? preinitialize pick_boot.run end end def booted? defined? • Ruby On Rails CMS Framework

    - by stel
Hi! I want to create a framework fo rails application. It will be a rails application but packed into gem (like a Radiant CMS). It must work like this: gem install cmsframework and then: cmsframework the_app After that we have a sceleton of rails app without any controllers etc.. - all controllers loaded from cmsframework gem. If I want to rewrite some files (for example public/styles.css) I must simply create it in my app (the_app). If I want new functions in my app I can create a plugin. But the main functionalities must be loaded from cmsframework gem. What is the best way to implement this?

  • gems, bundle command, and ruby not found in new terminal window

    - by user3579987
So I installed ruby with rvm, ran a bundle install and installed a bunch of gems, etc. It all works just fine in the original terminal window I did all of this in but I opened up a new terminal window and now I'm getting errors like bundle: command not found and gem command not found. I tried doing a symbolic link for the gem command but then when I do gem list it displays a much shorter list of my local gems and not at all the ones I need for bundle install. Is there something I need to do to configure bash or rvm so that it recognizes that I did indeed install all the gems I have installed? name@crunchbang:~/ug_research_portal$ which gem /home/name/.rvm/rubies/ruby-2.1.1/bin/gem name@crunchbang:~/ug_research_portal$ which ruby /home/name/.rvm/rubies/ruby-2.1.1/bin/ruby And in ~/.bashrc: GEM_HOME="/home/name/.rvm/gems/ruby-2.1.1" GEMGLOBAL_HOME="/home/ name/.rvm/gems/ruby-2.1.1@global" export PATH=$PATH:$GEM_HOME/bin:$GEMGLOBAL_HOME/bin:$HOME/.rvm/bin Edit: Looks like my $PATH is somehow wrong? bash: /home/name/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/local/games:/usr/games:/home/name/.rvm/gems/ruby-2.1.1/bin:/home/name/.rvm/gems/ruby-2.1.1@global/bin:/home/name/.rvm/bin/: No such file or directory which is odd since ls for /home/name/.rvm/bin and /home/name/.rvm/gems/ruby-2.1.1@global/bin and /home/name/.rvm/gems/ruby-2.1.1/bin work just fine Psych, I was just doing $PATH instead of echo "$PATH" which was giving me the No such file or directory error. The original problem still stands though.

  • ruby on rails gitorious setup on ubuntu

    - by dogmatic69
Ive been trying to install gitorious for a while now which required ruby and rails etc. Ive finally got rails pages serving but cant finish the installation of gitorious because the gem version is too new. the error logs say please run 'rake ultrasphinx:configure' and that gives rake ultrasphinx:configure (in /var/www/apps/gitorious) rake aborted! uninitialized constant ActiveSupport::Dependencies::Mutex /var/www/apps/gitorious/Rakefile:10:in `require' (See full trace by running task with --trace) From searching google this is beacuse of the wrong gem verison. Cant find a way to down grade it. apparently sudo gem update --system 1.4.2 should do the trick but ubuntu 10.10 does not like this. ERROR: While executing gem ... (RuntimeError) gem update --system is disabled on Debian, because it will overwrite the content of the rubygems Debian package, and might break your Debian system in subtle ways. The Debian-supported way to update rubygems is through apt-get, using Debian official repositories. If you really know what you are doing, you can still update rubygems by setting the REALLY_GEM_UPDATE_SYSTEM environment variable, but please remember that this is completely unsupported by Debian. So i added export REALLY_GEM_UPDATE_SYSTEM=1 to .bashrc and reloaded it with . ~/.bashrc and still the same. ive tried various forms of setting this environmental variable with no luck. Ive also been told on #gitorious irc channel to add the file config/initializers/rubygems.rb with the line require "thread" to it. This has done nothing. EDIT: Just found another way which was rvm install rubygems 1.4.2 and it gave: Removing old Rubygems files... Installing rubygems dedicated to ruby-1.8.7-p334... • Best Ruby Git library?

    - by Jeff Welling
Which is the best Git library in Ruby to use? Git, Grit, Rugged, Other? Background: I'm the current maintainer of TicGit-ng which is a distributed offline ticket system built on git, and I've read and heard over and over again that Grit is the one I should use because it supersedes the Git gem, but there seems to be either a lack of documentation or a lack of features because myself and others have failed in trying to switch from the deprecated-but-functional Git to the newer Grit gem.

  • Vagrant doesn't detect chef-solo unless re-installed

    - by nightowl
I am using Vagrant to test my Chef recipes in Amazon AWS, and I am encountering an irritating issue: I initially assumed that Vagrant would install chef itself (as it does when using Virtual Box as the provider) but it seems that this needs to be done using the cloud-init script. However, even after I successfully installed the chef gem via cloud-init I was still getting the following error: The chef binary (eitherchef-soloorchef-client) was not found A quick google of this error suggested three probable causes: Chef had failed to install It had installed, but the directory was not in the $PATH environment variable It had installed and in the $PATH but with incorrect permissions I logged in and double checked; chef-solo and chef-client were installed; The path variable for the user, sudo and root all included /usr/local/bin and permissions were all fine. I managed to solve this problem by uninstalling and reinstalling the gem using sudo gem install chef. I don't understand why this should resolve the issue and it is a bit of a problem if I have to ssh into a test box and manually install the gem every time. Does anyone have any suggestions why this might be happening?

  • Rails: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock'

    - by misbehavens
So I've got a Ruby on Rails application that I am trying to run (in development) on Snow Leopard. I've got it working on my Ubuntu computer, but now I need to get my Snow Leopard environment set up. Originally, I installed the MySQL 2.8.1 Ruby Gem and was running into this issue: uninitialized constant MysqlCompat::MysqlRes But thanks to this tutorial I was able to resolve it by running this command and installing a previous version of the Gem: export ARCHFLAGS="-arch i386 -arch x86_64" ;sudo gem install --no-rdoc --no-ri -v=2.7 mysql -- --with-mysql-dir=/usr/local/mysql --with-mysql-config=/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql_config Now that I've resolved that issue, I'm running into a different error: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' This happens when I try to run rake db:migrate as well as when the server is running. How can I resolve this issue?

  • Cannot to connect to a Cassandra DB from localhost

    - by DJYod
Hello, I don't know if I'm on the right site, I installed OpenSolaris a single cassandra node, I don't have other node. On the same server, I install Ruby 1.8 with the gem Cassandra. If I try to connect from my computer to the Cassandra node through the ruby gem cassandra, I can connect perfectly, if I try to to the same from the ruby gem cassandra in the server, it says that there is no listening on 127.0.0.1. I can connect locally to the instance using telnet 127.0.0.1 9160 and it works... any idea? Thank you!

  • how to point rubygems to use ruby 1.9.1?

    - by omnilinguist
[Debian squeeze] It has been surprisingly difficult to find an answer for this. I had ruby v1.9.1 installed (/usr/bin/ruby1.9.1), but after I then installed rubygems, it also installed ruby1.8 (/usr/bin/ruby1.8), and all the commands I run on gem (gem install ..., rails ...) are all using ruby v1.8. ~/proj/rails/demo# bundle show sqlite3 /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/sqlite3-1.3.4 How do I get rubygems and rails to use the v1.9.1 which I have installed, instead of v1.8? (side note: I did install rvm using "gem install rvm", but after I did that, I am not able to execute rvm, what's up with that?)

  • json problems with making a ruby on rails application

    - by Prince Merdz
So I'm using Bitnami to learn Ruby on Rails. I have also previously tried the manual installation for ruby and rails and was met by the same problem so I thought I should try first the easy package deal of Bitnami. Anyway my problem with json is that it causes the bundle install to fail. First the auto bundle install that rails new does fails because of an ssl error. • RSpec leaves record in test database

    - by DMiller
Whenever I run a user test, RSpec leaves the Fabricated user in the test database after the test has completed, which is messing up my other tests. I will do a rake db:test:prepare, but when I run my tests again, the record is recreated in my database. I have no idea why this is happening. It only happens with user objects. In my spec_helper file I even have: config.use_transactional_fixtures = true Here is an example test that creates a record: it "creates a password reset token for the user" do alice = Fabricate(:user) post :create, email: alice.email expect(assigns(alice.password_reset_token)).to_not eq(nil) end Fabricator: Fabricator(:user) do email { Faker::Internet.email } password 'password' name { Faker::Name.name } end Could this have anything to do with my users model?

  • How to test Rails 3 Engines with Cucumber & Rspec?

    - by cowboycoded
I apologize if this question is slightly subjective... I am trying to figure out the best way to test Rails 3 Engines with Cucumber & Rspec. In order to test the engine a rails 3 app is necessary. Here is what I am currently doing: Add a rails test app to the root of the gem (myengine) by running: rails new /myengine/rails_app Add Cucumber to /myengine/rails_app/features as you would in a normal Rails app Require the Rails Engine Gem (using :path=>"/myengine") in /myengine/rails_app/Gemfile Add spec to the root directory of the gem: /myengine/spec Include the fixtures in /myengine/spec/fixtures and I add the following to my cuc env.rb: env.rb: Fixtures.reset_cache fixtures_folder = File.join(Rails.root, 'spec', 'fixtures') fixtures = Dir[File.join(fixtures_folder, '*.yml')].map {|f| File.basename(f, '.yml') } Fixtures.create_fixtures(fixtures_folder, fixtures) Do you see any problems with setting it up like this? The tests run fine, but I am a bit hesitant to put the features inside the test rails app. I originally tried putting the features in the root of the gem and I created the test rails app inside features/support, but for some reason my engine would not initialize when I ran the tests, even though I could see the app loading everything else when cuc ran. If anyone is working with Rails Engines and is using cuc and rspec for testing, I would be interested to hear your setup.

If you installed Ruby from a packaging system, then you may need to install an additional package, or ask the packager to enable ri generation. • Problem installing RMagick rubygem on Centos 5

I'm having problems installing the RMagick rubygem on Centos 5. I tried the following but the result was the same: sudo gem install rmagick -- --with-opt-dir=/usr/local/bin Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • rails server fails to start with mysql2 using rvm & ruby 1.9.2-p0 on OSX 10.6.5

I'm getting the following error when I start rails server: $ rails server /Users/ssmith/.rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.2-p0/gems/mysql2-0.2.6/lib/mysql2.rb:7:in `require': dlopen(/Users/ssmith/.rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.2-p0/gems/mysql2-0.2.6/lib/mysql2/mysql2.bundle, 9): Library not loaded: libmysqlclient.16.dylib (LoadError) Referenced from: /Users/ssmith/.rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.2-p0/gems/mysql2- 0.2.6/lib/mysql2/mysql2.bundle Reason: image not found - /Users/ssmith/.rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.2-p0/gems/mysql2- 0.2.6/lib/mysql2/mysql2.bundle I've installed mysql2 with the following command after the rvm use ruby-1.9.2-p0 command: $ gem install mysql2 -- --with-mysql-dir=/usr/local/mysql --with-mysql-config=/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql_config Building native extensions. Yet RVM's gem is not respecting that mysql_config location it seems. Anyone have a solution to this? Thanks in advance. Scott
