• Geotargeted subfolder questions (Portugal/Brazil and Switzerland)

  We are at the beginning of the process to get multilingual versions of a website. We will be using subfolders working off the core domain (eg mydomain.com/fr/), set the geotargeting at webmaster tools and set hreflang attribute. I would really appreciate your help with a couple of questions. 1/Portuguese: we will have a Portuguese language version of the site. Our intention is to use this to cover users in both Portugal AND Brazil. ie, we are not going to do separate folders mydomain.com/pt/ and mydomain.com/br/ Can I use 2 hreflang attributes for this language version to tell Google it covers Brazil AND Portugal? What country code to use for this subfolder? 2/Switzerland Does anyone have best practice advice how to do this? One one hand, the subfolder should be mydomain.com/ch/ but as Switzerland covers 2 language possibilities (French AND German) - what to do? thanks

  Hey, I need to install the wifi driver to ubuntu. so I downloaded the driver from hp website but the extension is .rpm, so I need to convert him to .deb so I can install it on ubuntu. The problem is I don't have internet connection on ubuntu to do this : sudo apt-get install alien how can convert the driver on windows for example, or how can I do download alien and place it under my usb to install it after booting on ubuntu.   I'm starting a website, that is meant for a non-English region, using an alphabet that is a bit different than that of English. Current plan is as follows. The website name, and the domain name, will be in the local language (not English); however, domain name will be spelled in the English alphabet, while the website's title will be the same word(s), but spelled properly with accents. E.g.: 'www.litterat.fr' and 'Littérat'. Does the difference between domain name and website name character use influence the site's SEO? Is it better, SEO-wise, to choose a name that can be spelled the same way in the English alphabet? From my experience, when searching online, invariably, the English alphabet is used, no matter the language, so people will still be searching 'litterat' (without accents and such).

  I have a client with a dozen territorial domains, like mydomain.co.uk, mydomain.fr, mydomain.de, etc Most of these domains hold a different language of the same dynamic content (shop), but some, like co.uk and .com, have the same language and content, except for some content customized to each country/domain in the front page, contact and other pages. I am aware that we should use the canonical meta tag to mark those duplicated contents, but, we want the co.uk to be present in UK ( indexed in google.co.uk ) and the .com to be present in US and other countries, for example, or least that is the goal. Is there anything we can do to "help" google determine the geographical meaning of each domain? If we mark with canonical tag the .com and co.uk sites, do you know how google will decide which one to show on a given search?

  Recently I decided to add some translations to my program. I wonder how I should name the language files? in the culture's name of the language (example: english = en, french = fr, italian = it, etc...) in the name of the language [in english] (example: english = english, french = french, italian = italian, etc..) I know you'll choose the second way because you dont have to detect which filename it is because both have the same name. But the problem is this - I show the name of the languages in its langauge (example: english = english, french = française, italian = italiano, etc..) so I still need to detect which filename it is. The main question is which way I should choose? the name of the language in english or the culture name? and why?... Thanks!

  My site's pages are in multiple languages whereby each language version shares its media (images) with the other language versions. I place all versions and the media in a single directory with the same name. E.g. pages mypage-en.html, mypage-fr.html etc. will sit in directory mypage. The directory path suffices to reference a page: h t t p : //....../mypage/ is good enough, there is no need for h t t p : //....../mypage/mypage-en/html A rewrite with RewriteRule ^(.*)/([a-zA-Z0-9]+)/?$ /$1/$2/$2-en.html lets me use the shorter form. But what if the name mypage contains spaces (which some do) ? I want h t t p : //....../my page/ to lead to h t t p : //....../my page/my page.html Using RewriteRule ^(.*)/([a-zA-Z0-9|\s]+)/?$ /$1/$2/$2-en.html did not work. Any hints welcome.   I'm using Ubuntu 12.04. I found out that there is a near-obsolete program based on the obsolete Caml Special Light by someone at INRIA ( ftp.inria.fr, directory lang/caml-light ). The program is called Syngen. I need it to create Syntax diagrams. But i am not able to run the binaries that come with it, and i'm not able to compile the source because it needs a compiler called cmlc. Somebody help, i find REALLY less documentation about this in internet.

  I have three FreeBSD 8.1 running on three different hardware and therefore consist of different network adapter as well (bce, bge and igb). I found that the network connection is kind of unstable which I have tried to scp some 10MB file and found that I cannot always get the files completed successfully. I have further checked with my network admin and he claim that the problem is being caused by the network driver which cannot support the load whereby he tried to ping using huge packet size (around 15k) and my server will drop packet consistently at a regular interval. I found that this statement may not be valid since the three server is using three different network drive and it would be quite impossible that the same problem is being caused by three different network adapter and thus different network driver. • AjaxControlToolkit.resources.dll files deleted

  I'm using the ASP.NET Ajax toolkit. In addition to the AjaxControlToolkit.dll in my bin directory, I have language directories named es, de, fr, etc... The single file, the AjaxControlToolkit.resources.dll disappears from these directories every once in a while - I can't figure out why. I manually copy them back, but I've purposely done rebuild and clean solutions and they are still there. Somewhere during my normal course of work, when I'm not looking, they're gone. Any clues?

  I need to do some work with this library and I'm finding the documentation at http://apodeline.free.fr/DOC/libjpeg/libjpeg.html to be deficient (incomplete function signatures, etc). Does anyone know of some other sides or have some example code illustrating common tasks? [Edit] I also found this question with an example, but any others would be helpful.
