As all available addresses are in use, you must clone an existing one to join with a new device (and to disconnect the cloned one). - PRI: An network printer (some people here call that IP printer). - R-2: A TP-LINK TL-WR340G, mine wireless router (since my computer does not have ethernet input, it is my ethernet-wifi adapter :), admin access, MAC address cloned from C-2 (MAC:A). I've to configure 10.0.1.1 and 10.0.1.2 as DNS addresses, other wise I cannot connect C-1 and C-2 to Internet. - C-1: My computer, a CCE XLE-425 (remember: no ethernet input), with Windows 7, admin access. - C-2: another computer with better configs than mine, MAC:A, Windows XP. Requirements: I want to print, to access Internet and to do it myself (no need to call network admin men in black people). Pay attention to MAC clones and DNS info.

  • Win 2008 R2 terminal server and redirected printer queue security

    I have a case where I need a non-priv account to be able to make a modification to the redirected printer. I know, its not advisable but we're not giving them access - changes will be made in code. So, following the docs (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee524015(WS.10).aspx) I modified the default security for new printer queues. This doesnt work though as windows doesn't seem to assign the privs you configure in the printer admin tool to redirected printer queues. As I test I added a non-priv test user to the default security tab in the printer admin tool (control panel - admin tools - printer admin. I assigned it all privs (its a test) and logged the user into the terminal server. The redirected printers duely appeared as usual. However if I open the printer properties - security tab, the user appears in the list of accounts/groups but the options I selected (all privs) are not set. Instead the user special privs box is marked and when I click on 'advanced options' and view them, there is nothing marked. So, something is clearing these options.... the question is, why and how can I convince it not to? Ian

  • Print from Linux to Windows networked printer

    I want to print from a Debian (Lenny) workstation to a Windows networked printer. I'm not even sure what type of Windows network this is. Our tech-support is friendly but doesn't want to get involved with supporting Linux. I need to use it for a variety of reasons and am completely stumped because I know nothing about Windows networking. They gave me URI smb://msprint.ourorg.edu as the "address" of the printer and further confirmed that the domain is "OURORG" and the share is "PHYS-PRI". I've installed CUPS and made sure that it's running as a daemon, I've clicked on the system-config-printer[1] icon, selected the printer as a Windows printer shared via SAMBA and entered the above URI. Attempting to print a testpage just sees it sit in the queue. I attempted to see if I could access the share using two other methods. Method 1. First I tried the "smbclient" from the CLI: $ smbclient -L //msprint.ourorg.edu -U user23 timeout connecting to 192.168.44.3:445 timeout connecting to 192.168.44.3:139 Connection to msprint.ourorg.edu failed (Error NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED) Method 2. I tried to use the GUI tool Smb4K. This shows me four other toplevel (I'm assuming they're domains?) groupings one of which is the one which our IT department supplied to me. Clicking them shows a bunch of other machines with (what I assume are NetBIOS names?) including my own. I see all sorts of other networked printers belonging to other departments but none within mine. Certainly not the PHYS-PRI one suggested to me by the IT folks. I realize that I'm probably using the wrong terminology for the windows network, but can anyone help me with this? What steps should I be taking in debugging this? Do I need to actually run my machine as a SAMBA server to authenticate to the printer or should I just be able to communicate using CUPS?   • Dye Sub printer with specific prints remaining - can I command-line query this?

    Hey, I've got a Sony Dye-Sub printer that holds ink/paper sets - i.e. a very certain amount of ink and paper for ~200 prints. This information is available to me from within Control Panel Printers Preferences Printer Device Information (i.e. current 189 remaining prints). Any way I can perhaps get this information from the command line? I'd like to write a little program to tell me when the number of prints gets low (i.e. < 20), rather than suffer the annoying Windows "run out of paper" popup. I've found the Windows VBScript print utilities, but can't seem to find the request I need for this. Any suggestions? Jason

However, I can't seem to share printers between them: when I right-click on the printer I expect to see "share printer" but there is no option for that. When I read about "share printers" in the Windows 7 help, it talks about this computer "not being able to connect to a home network", yet they seem to be connected fine (I can share files between them). Why can't I share printers between the computers if I can share files?

    Here is my problem: my printer and scanner (HP psc2410xi) prints darker than the photos taken and teh scanner has a background fuzz. I want to create and install files to have the printer lighten the photos it prints (yellow becomes dark yellow, etc) and delete the "fuzz" from the scanner image (you can see it on a blank scan and yes I did clean the scanner). I'm thinking there is a way to take a printed image, scan that in, and subtract the two images from each other to get the correction factor.

    As per subject. I've found some ways of scripting printer creation on Windows print servers using WMI, but it looks like WMI doesn't support clustered print servers (or clustered servers at all). The scripts in C:\Windows\System32\Printing_Admin_Scripts are useless because, they are not cluster-aware and end up creating the printers on the active cluster node (just like using WMI). The only tool I found that was able to work on a clustered print server is printui.exe (shortcut for rundll32 printui.dll, PrintUIEntry), but it can't create TCP printing ports: it can only add printers if the port already exists. How can I completely script printer creation (including TCP printing ports!) on a clustered Windows Server 2008 R2 print server?

  • How best to look up objects by label?

    I am writing the server backed by a pre-written API. I'm going to get a number of strings representing ports, signals, paths, etc etc etc. I need to look up the object associated with a given label, these objects are all in memory (no sql magic to do this for me). My question is, how best do I associate a given unique label with the mutable object it represents? I have enough objects that looking through every signal or every port to find the one that matches is possible, but may be slightly too slow. To be honest the direct 'look at every object' method is probably good enough for so small a body of objects and anything else is premature optimization, but I still am curious what the proper solution would be if I thought my signals were going to grow a bit larger. As I see it there are two options available. First would be to to create a 'store' that is a simple map between object and label. I could have it so that every time I call addObject the object is automatically saved into a hashmap or the like. This works, but relies on my properly adding and deleting each object so the map doesn't grow indefinitely. The biggest issue to me is that this involves having some hidden static map in my ModelObject class that just feels...wrong somehow. The other option is to have some method that can interpret the labels. All of these labels are derived from the underlying objects. So I can look at the signal label, for instance, and say "these 20 characters are the port" to figure out what port I need. This would allow me to quickly figure out what I need. However, if the label method is changed the translateLabelToObject method needs to be updated as well or everything breaks. Which solution is cleaner, or possibly a cleaner solution than either of above? For the record I'm working with sufficient number of variables to make direct comparison a little slow, but not enough to be concerned about memory overhead, written in java. All objects that have labels I need to look up extend the same parent class.

    I am trying to print a bitmap image on a zebra printer (TLP-2844-Z) and it comes out incredibly blurry and faint but when I print it on a laser printer it looks fine. Also, when I printer plain text to the zebra printer or the test page it comes out crystal clear. Is there something I am doing wrong?
