  I recently got a lapyy from Delhi univesity...its actually free of cost lol! ...but d thing is i have to return it after a year or 2...btw its confo are--amd 5350m,7 gb ram,amd radeon x2 graphics but installed with ubuntu 12.04, hp probuk the thing is i want to play games on it i searched on the net there are a few softwares like wine,playon linux ,etc etc but i m not able to play with them....actually m new to linux ...may be that could b the reason...or so...i hv also got an advice to dual booting windows or so..but i dont want to break GRUB..as m not so proffesional in such things and if something went wrong then i wuld have to pay to the universsity....for any mishap !!!! please help m guys i m in great trouble...virtual box is aloso an handy application to run win appllication...haha,,but i dont knoe how to use it or so..plzzz help me or support me ...i will be highly obliged

• View Frustum Alternative

  I am working on a simulation project that requires me to have entities walking around in a 3D world. I have all that working, matrix transformations, etc. I'm at the point where I need what is essentially a view frustum, so I can give each entity a visible area. However, when looking over the calculations required to do it, it seems like a perspective frustum is only required to be able to project it onto a 2D screen. Is there another, easier to code solution, that would function better, such as an orthogonal perspective? Could I just define a shape mathematically and test wether the coordinates of the objects are inside or out? I am not really a 3D coder (and I am doing this all from scratch, not using an engine or anything), so I would like the simplest solution possible for my needs. Thank you!

  I've been working as a web developer since 1998, mostly with ASP/ASP.Net/C# but began as a Java coder (JSP mostly). Its been fun but now I'm feeling jaded and can see the need for a change. I've considered iOS/Cocoa development and Android development recently (Objective-C looks hard while I'm a former Java developer) but I'm not sure of Career opportunities being proficient in either would afford The incline of the learning curve - I just turned 40 and I know I'm not as sharp or as quick as I once was. Does anyone have any experiences/ opinions/ advice for me? Thanks.

• HP Pavilion dv7 dual boot with ubuntu and original win7 issues

  I just bought a hp dv7 and I want to dual boot it with the win7 it came with and ubuntu 12.04.1. I shrunk the C partition to make room for the ubuntu one then downloaded an burnt the iso. Next I booted from the cd and followed the simple instructions until I got to the page of the install to choose the partition where all choices were greyed out and the table was completely blank and the drop down only had one choice. After researching this I found that a main problem might be that I can only have 4 primary partitions and the computer was shipped with the 4 already (system,C,recovery,hp tools). I guess my question is what is the best way to go about completing this dual boot? I have read to delete the hp tools partition or combine it with another, I just want a step by step of how to dual boot this computer, I have done plenty of computers in the past but never ran into these issues that come with an HP (should have got a dell lol)!

Where to find open source volunteers? My question is slightly different because I am primarily looking for non-coders to help with a few things in my new open source project. In particular, I'd like one or more people to create an icon and other graphics and to work on a web site, wiki pages, and/or other documentation. My project is a front-end for a baseball card database. So reaching out to baseball card collectors might be useful. • What is the ideal laptop for creative coding applications?

  Hi, I am a creative coder using C++(cinder and OpenFrameworks) I am looking to upgrade from my MacBook, which slowed down to about 3fps this morning. My project involves particles systems and fluids reacting to audio analysis data and computer vision data in real-time. SD or HD? no biggie. I have asked many people what computer I need. Ideally, I want a MacBook Pro. But is that enough power? I've been told that I need a desktop for what I am doing though I'd rather stay portable I've been told that I should go PC linux to get the most power but I'd rather stay mac I've been told that RAM is more of bottleneck than processor speed I've been told that the Graphics Card is more important than CPU and that code optimizations such as using trees over lists, proper threading, sending tasks to the GPU make a bigger difference than the hardware!!! what's true?! what do I need? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated

• How much localizations is too much for a game?

  We are making an RTS game and we intend to add localizations to all languages our players use. So far we have 16 locales and about 3-4 are being planned. Now some crazy ideas pop up from our community, players ask for "funny text" localizations. We have been already offered a pack that makes it for 1 of our languages. Now I was thinking where should we draw a line between official localizations which we include into the game and unofficial mods that players will have to install on their own? Obviously overcrowding locale selection menu with all sorts of funny locales (LOL-cat, redneck, welsh, medieval, simplified, etc.) for all the languages seems way too much. But is it really? What are the hidden pros and cons of having too much locales and how much is too much?

• Using implode, explode etc.. on one line vs separating them into multiple lines with meaningful variable names

  I see a lot of people coding in PHP being rather proud if they manage to write a complicated one line statement that does clever things. But what is the advantage? It is not only harder to keep in once head while writing, but makes code much less readable. In my opinion reading short statements, if well written, can be like reading an essay, while complicated one liners can potentially make me pause and think for much longer then it would take for the coder to simply separate them into meaningful units. Am I wrong in thinking this? How would you go about proving your point to another programmer regarding this?

I am not able to get good at it even though I code everyday. suppose I solve one problem, I will wander from solution to solution and implement some other solution. I cant focus much. I think that a coder can demonstrate better his abilities with games made in c++, because it requires a knowledge deeper in many fields. However, currently there is a lot of companies that develop his games with UDK. Now I don't know if is better specialize in a game engine like UDK.

  We are on the stage of planning a CakePHP project. It is a relatively a big project for us, as a developer+project manager, I want to hire someone to work with me. But what I really want is to spend less time on actual coding, without losing control of the code quality. What I want to do is that I will design all the functions of the project in CakePHP, at least all the model's functions, and leave the implementation part to the coder who I am going to hire. But my worry is still if I am going to lose control of the code quality using this approach? is it feasible to do so or it is going to turn this project to a chaos. • Why don't 12.04 Nvidia drivers work on my GeForce 6150 LE?

  I got a slimline s7600n and of course i put ubuntu 12.04 on it. Im using recommended proprietary drivers and they are just not working to well. My monitor is 1366x768 but it will only do 1360x768 and minecraft barely runs at all. Besides that everything is fine. But i gota play minecraft! help! lol Thanks. :) Other specs is cpu amd athlon 64 dual core 2ghz ram 1 gig vid is 256mb 64bit Not sure what other info yall need.

• Can I share files via SAMBA while in root?

  I have a couple of things going on here. I am currently running UBUNTU 10.04 in root via "STARTX" command. The reason being is that I keep getting the "LOW GRAPHICS ERROR CODE" and I cant not start up normally. Now I have researched & researched the error. I mean I got my SUDO on........, o.k. I'm really done trying to fix this error. I just wanna re-install. (funny thing. This startx command is how Im using the laptop now, so I know that it is a software issue) So here's my dilemma that is inside another dilemma. • Preparing for Interview: I feel like, I wanna start coding all data structures again.... Is it a right way to start?

  I started preparing for my interview. I will be graduating this May. Right now, I am doing an internship in an product based company, so I did my fair share of preparation. The thing is, whenever, I try to do something, I always think that I should start everything from page 1. It is sometimes not at all helpful.... For example, reading a programming book from page 1 is not going to helpful, as I never completed one and always stopped half way through or rushed through towards deadlines. I am facing a similar situation now. I feel like, I wanna start coding all data structures from first(I attempted and finished atleast 6-7 last fall, preparing for interview). Now I feel like, I wanna code everything from first, instead of attempting something new.... I am not quite sure, what this is, but this is the way I have been..... LOL

• Web App for storing and organize programming information?

  So, I've found myself, after several years of coding (I consider myself a coder, rather than a programmer) full of links and loose snippets and coding tips, all dispersed across the web. In such way it is barely usable, even when every bit is important or interesting. I thought of simply storing the links in delicious or something alike, but it's not really the links I want to keep, I just need the succinth info. So I was thinking to use some web app, something like a wiki, maybe much more simple, so I could access it though my mobile if I need it. I could code it, but as I stated it before, I'm more of a code monkey, and I'm sure my solution would be far from decent... Can anyone give me recommendations on this?

Goto load up Solution I was working on the weekend@ home What the !!!... If you edit the unloaded Project you will find something like this   For some Murphys rule reason even after hitting VS2010 with SP 1 my work box has lost MVC3 so thats why {E53F8FEA-EAE0-44A6-8774-FFD645390401} is unknown  This site has a list of the VS system guids i.e C#/VB.NET,Workflow etc www.mztools.com/articles/2008/mz2008017.aspx Goto MVC 3 site www.asp.net/mvc/mvc3 and get latest ver and you should be back on track   Note to self going a bit crazy on the Visual Studio Gallery http://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/ and installing maybe one to many tools might have something to do with my problems...lol
