• How to manage primary key while updating [migrated]

  In the following table primaryKeyColumn is primary key. To maintain the data history I always uses the values with WHERE condition(WHERE StatusColumn=1) And will set the StatusColumn to 0 if the data is edited (So that I could keep the previous data). But the problem is, if I update it to 0 , I can't insert the same key to primarykeycolumn since the column validated for primary keys.   We're about to start a new project using Agile (using TFS), and I have a couple of "good practice" questions regarding the product backlog:- When we first start adding users stories, is it a good idea to put them in (say) a "Backlog" iteration, or just leave their iteration blank? Obviously when the time comes to start work on a US it would be moved into the appropriate iteration backlog. When breaking an epic down into smaller USs, would I simply close the original epic, as it's no longer required? Or should I create the new USs as children of the epic? (it's then someone's responsibility to close the epic once all child USs have been completed). Lastly, should the product backlog list all USs regardless of status, or only those that have not been started (i.e in my proposed "Backlog" iteration)? I realise these questions aren't life-or-death, but it would be nice to know how other people manage their product backlogs so we can organise things properly from the start.

  I was wondering if there is a Application where you can organize networks. I mean if you have installed some networks you have to note every pc's name, his ip-address and so on. Is there a Application where you can manage it? I saw the monitoring tools but that is not exactly what I'm looking for. Maybe I didnt explain me well, after all my englis his not so good :) For example if I install many different networks I write in a book how I configured them. I write pc-name ip-address ip-gateway ip-broadcast and so on for each network. It will be great if I can do it in a program to organize it well, and for example it gives me a node view of the network.

  I'm the admin assistant of the CTO and our organization has recently experienced a lot of growth. Within six months, we have merged with another organization and our Dev team has grown from 8 to 16, with another 8 people in QA. What we're dealing with now is a highly technical individual, with little patience, managing a much larger team than he's accustomed to, 40% of which is junior as well as an increase in the number of projects. Needless to say, my boss is being pulled in too many directions at once.   I have developed my own little framework for webpages. And for different websites I had to change some parts of the framework respectively developed new features / improvements. But in some cases I missed to copy the changes in the original framework code. How do you manage your frameworks? I copy the complete framework to a library folder in my projects folder structure. So I have a copy of the framework in every project. I would like to have it on one place in order to modify / improve / bugfix it once and then distribute it on the projects.

  Software development is an area where parallel development to its fullest form is very difficult to achieve, although you could get reasonably close with the right design. This is especially true for game development. That being said, if you are designing a game from scratch from engine to front end, what steps should be taken in order? • CLI Shared Hosting Management (scripts to manage web users and hosts) [on hold]

  I am currently administrating two servers: first one has no control panel, I am creating directory structure, setting permission, configuring different aspects (users/php-fpm pools, nginx hosts..) for each of sites. With more clients, I sat up ISPConfig on my second server, everything is easily handled by ISPConfig Web Interface. However, I am searching for a CLI based solution, i.e. a set of scripts to create and manage hosts. Basically, a method to control ISPConfig from the command line (so I can use it over SSH) would be a good start. Does anybody know of such effort? I searched but all I got was web based solutions. Thanks.

• NetworkManager refuses to manage my WLAN interface

  I'm using Ubuntu 12.10 with Gnome 3.6 on a brand-new Samsung NP900X4C. The installer detected the wireless adapter, took in the SSID and WPA passphrase, wrote these into /etc/network/interfaces and connected perfectly. Once installation was finished I wanted to switch to using NetworkManager to manage the wireless adapter, since this is much more convenient than fiddling with /etc/network/interfaces every time I find a new hotspot. Therefore I edited /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf to set: [ifupdown] managed=true When I rebooted NetworkManager, the problems started: - The NetworkManager tray applet changed from saying device not managed to device not ready - I lost all internet connectivity as wlan0 would not associate to the Access Point - if I set managed=false in NetworkManager.conf and restarted both NetworkManager and networking services from the command-line, the Gnome desktop "semi-crashed" and lost all its Window Decorations, the panel, the launcher and basically became unusable. However if I restart the computer completely after setting managed=false, wlan0 once again works perfectly.

I don't want to re-invent the wheel so i am looking for some type of SDK or collection of tools that can provide me with a way of creating/managing a social network. I understand that no framework will probably fit my exact needs so I am also looking for a flexible/extendable framework. An example extension point would be allowing the user to provide sub networks, maybe a global network that could be sub classified as work and friends. Beyond that it would also be nice to somehow be able to import contacts from other networking sites (Facebook, Linked In, etc). My current technology suite will more than likely consist of the following: IIS 7.0 WCF Data Services SQL Server 2006 ASP.NET front end. So my two questions are 1) C# Open Source Social Network SDK 2) C# Open Source Social Netowrk APIs (facebook, linked in, etc) If there is any more information you may need please let me know.

  I'm not sure what the "general" name of something like this might be. I'm looking for a library that gives me a file format to store different types of binary data in an expanding single file. open source, non-GPL (LGPL ok) C interface the file format is a single file multiple files within using a POSIX-like file API (or multiple "blobs" within using some other API) file/structure editing is done in-place reliable first, performant second Examples include: the virtual drives of a virtual machine whefs HDF CDF NetCDF Problems with the above: whefs doesn't appear to be very mature, but best describes what I'm after HDF, CDF, NetCDF are usable (also very reliable and fast), but they're rather complicated and I'm not entirely convinced of their support for opaque binary "blobs" Edit: Forgot to mention, one other relevant question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1361560/simple-virtual-filesystem-in-c-c Another similar question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/374417/is-there-an-open-source-alternative-to-windows-compound-files Edit: Added condition of in-place editing.

• Save Powerpoint 2007 as Powerpoint 2003 using Open Office SDK 2.0

  Is there anyway to use the Open Office SDK 2.0 to save a powerpoint presention that you created using OOXML to a Office 2003 powerpoint presentation? I know if you open a 2007 file and click Save As you have the option to save it as a Powerpoint 97 to 2003 document and I didn't know if I could do this grammatically using this SDK. The reason I am asking this question is because I need to give the user the option to save data on a website in either office 2007 or 2003 format. I much rather just use the same code to produce the document instead of having to have two code paths for powerpoint 2003 and powerpoint 2007.

  I develop a couple of open source projects licensed under MPL1.1. All projects depend on a lot of other open source tools. I avoid any GPL licensed libraries for the viral nature of GPL. The licenses of the libraries my tools depend on are Apache2, LGPL2, LGPL3, CPL, BSD, JSON, MIT and some personal agreements. My applications are licensed under MPL1.1 but now I want to publish some libraries. Which license is compatible with all of the above ? comfortable for the user ? My suspicion is that MPL1.1 is not that good as a library license. I'd like the libraries to be used.

  Hey everybody - I have an open source project that I'm working on and I'm trying to figure out what liscense would be the best match. Essentially my project is a framework that developers will use to create projects of their own. The vision I had for the licensing of the project (in plain English): The user must not sell the source code or any derivatives. The user must not sell the framework or any derivatives. The user is allowed to sell a program which uses the framework. Basically, I just don't want anyone to abuse the open source aspect of the project, take what I've done and turn around and sell it.   I'm trying to find a good Java cms, I've stumbled uppon some that are quite good like: Apache Lenya, dotCMS, Info Glue, Open Edit, MMBase, Contelligent, Hippo CMS Which on do you guys recommend, or even one that I'm missing, because I have some more that I am studying at the moment. The requirements are that I can build modules for it with ease, and that it is open source and free, and with LDAP support. The problem is that I'm not that into Java in web, that's why I'm having trouble finding a good one. One Java cms like dotNetNuke would be the best. Edit: Jahia is off the list because it has no suport for LDAP (community version) Thanks!

• Open Flash Chart on Zend MVC Error

  I recently downloaded the Open Flash Chart source code and I have intergrated it into my Zend MVC.Since I use the autoloader I have renamed my files and commented the "require_once" source lines. However when I try to load my chart <script type="text/javascript"> swfobject.embedSWF( "<?php echo $this->baseUrl() ?>/swf/open-flash-chart.swf", "my_chart", "550", "200", "9.0.0", "<?php echo $this->baseUrl() ?>/swf/expressInstall.swf", {"data-file":"<?php echo $this->baseUrl()?>/reportexpense/piechart/"} ); </script> it loads the "/data-files/y-axis-auto-steps.txt" instead and I cant figure out why. My controller returns the JSON string which I expect to be rendered. What am I missing?

• Best Open Source Project Hosting Site

  I want to start an open source project, but the rise in hosting sites leaves me a little paralyzed with choice. I know a little about several: I never really liked SourceForge's UI but it still feels like the site I think of when I think "open source project hosting". Google Code Project Hosting looks clean and useful but doesn't seem as feature complete as SourceForge. I've heard good things about Launchpad but don't know much about it nor do I know Bazaar (though I'd be interested in learning it). I know almost nothing about GitHub and, like Bazaar, I don't know Git. Does anyone have any experience with these sites or some other cool code host? Any recommendations?
