  i am trying to design a game for a project i have, The main idea is a 3 Type of Heroes 3 Stat per Hero There are no levels involved so the differences must be located on Stats. Flogic)The logic of fight is that type1hero has good chances winning type2hero, type2hero has good chances type3hero and type3hero has good chances winning type1hero. For over a week i am trying to find a stats based formula that will allow me to fix this but i cant, i was meddling with numbers yesterday and it was decent but i cant extract the formula out of it. • Touchpad stopped working after suspend, never woke up again

  I have a Toshiba L650, installed (dual boot) Ubuntu 10.10. Touchpad worked fine until I tried for the first time to suspend (I closed the screen on the keyboard). The system never woke up again. Reset (battery disconnected and then reconnected), restart of the system, disk checks, and so on. After that, everything works fine except the Touchpad, completely dead. Rebooted again. The problem persists. Any hints? Thanks, Luca.

As I looked around, I found the old school types where its just a plain text while the new ones are all colorful but seem overpowering. I was thinking of a more section wise cv. One that would link to categories. But here is the thing, I'm a noob at this ... Any hints, help, or examples would be much appreciated.   Can someone please advise me what is the possible solution of using GAE to make a Client/Serer Application? As far as I know, GAE is designed to do web applications. What I want to do is to have a Java Client(Swing based) deployed on a number of computers and deploy the server on GAE. I found an example on GAE website which teaches how to make a SOAP service using GAE, but I don't know whether using SOAP is a good idea for client/server applications. • Determine percentage of screen covered by an object without using frustum culling

  On the CPU-side of an 3D first-person / ego perspective game I need to check whether what the players currently sees on screen is the inside of a box object defined by world space coordinates (the player might be outside of that box but on screen sees only/mostly the inside of the box, or vice-versa, looks from within the box to the outside). The "casual" way of performing such a check would incorporate frustum culling but such an approach would be hard to achieve with my given set of engine parameters which I'd like to avoid if there is a simpler way. What I actually have at the point where I would like to do the check (high-level script on CPU, not GPU side): Camera world position Camera direction Camera FOV Two Box corner world coordinates (left-bottom-front, right-top-back) What I do not have right away: View frustrum definition (near/far plane or say 6 planes defining frustum) Any specific pixel information (uv, view space position, depth or the like) What I would like to calculate: Percentage of screen "covered" by box. Any hints on how to perform such calculation?

MySymbol_design or assets.MySymbol_design), do not change the base class (ie. flash.display.MovieClip). Right now, I am stuck at that part. Any hints? What I wish to do is: Use fla for the artist to store assets. Publish to swc Extract the assets in FlashDevelop by creating an instance of their class. ... How is this done in CS6? • How to coach a developer with dyslexia to improve his spelling and grammar capabilities?

  Just having read this question regarding developers with dyslexia, I still have some open questions on how to deal with it: I am working on a project sinc approx. 6 month with a new developer who just finished university. I see that the code quality is high, what he's missing is the ability to write texts (even short ones) in an error-free manner (both, syntax and grammar errors). He is working on some UI stuff (VS.NET 2010, ASP.NET 4) and, beside coding, has to write short text for labels, buttons, grid view headers, page titles, etc. Since even those texts have errors inside, no matter how much I try to discuss the need for a professional, text-error-free UI, he seems to not manage to get this right, although he really tries. So my questions are: Are there any hints how he (or I) should proceed to enhance the text quality? Do you know any tools (like inline spell checkers) for VS.NET to highlight syntax and grammar errors? (We are working on a German-only UI, if this is important to know)

• Dual Monitor/Xinerama not working; cannot even detect on-board graphic card

  I have Kubuntu 12.04 and two identical VGA monitors. One I plugged via DVI-VGA adapter into the DVI port of my discrete AMD Radeon HD 6670, the other into the VGA port of my on-board graphic card (Radeon HD 6410D). After installing Kubuntu I got a black screen, so I booted with nomodeset and installed AMD's catalyst drivers but only the monitor plugged into the discrete graphic card worked. Using lspci I saw that the on-board graphics was not listed. Then I found in the BIOS settings the options "Surround View" and "Onboard Dual Link DVI" both disabled. After enabling both, the on-board graphics card shows up in lspci but in amdcccle, it only shows as [Uknown display]Uknown adapter. When I try to enable xinerama, I get a black screen after rebooting on both monitors. I tried several options and hints from the web but nothing worked so far. I also reinstalled the AMD drivers several times. What should I do?

  I have a company website hosted at www.BRAND.com (where BRAND is a generic name). The company want to develop a "micro website" for one of their campaigns, named "Inspired By BRAND". I have two directions: inspired.by.BRAND.com - which I personally don't like too much. I don't know why but I don't recall any web address similar to this one subdomain.subdomain.domain.com. inspired.BRAND.com - which I this is best suited for it. • Cuda GeForce GT 555m (on Ubuntu 12.04 (Virtual Box))

  I am running Ubuntu 12.04 in a Virtual Box as guest OS. Today I have tried to enable all functions of my graphic card under Ubuntu. But all my efforts were off the mark... because my experience with Linux is relatively small... I have tried the procedure which is described as in http://sn0v.wordpress.com/2012/05/11/installing-cuda-on-ubuntu-12-04/. Running the cuda-filepack always lead to an error like "installing driver canceled". Then I have tried to install the Bumblebee project. But I always get the error that the bumblebee daemon is not started. After some internet research I found a test-command lspci -nn | grep '[030[02]]' which results in 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: InnoTek ... [80ee:beef] I've been trying to activate the card you for hours without success. Could you please give me some hints how to activate CUDA? Kind regards

• Android Loading Screen: How do I use a stack to load elements?

  I have some problems with figuring out what value I should put in the function: int value_needed_to_figure_out = X; ProgressBar.incrementProgressBy(value_needed_to_figure_out); I've been researching about loading screens and how to use them. Some examples I've seen have implemented Thread.sleep() in a Handler.post(new Runnable()) function. To me, I got most of that concept of using the Handler to update the ProgressBar, while pretending to do some heavy crunching work. So, I kept looking. I have read this thread here: How do I load chunks of data from an assest manager during a loading screen? It said that I can try using a stack it needs to load, and adding a size counter as I add elements to the stack. What does it mean? This is the part where I'm totally stumped. If anyone would provide some hints, I'll gladly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

• Implementing a bit shift using AND, NOT, ADD [closed]

  I'm implementing a 16-bit left bit shift by r bits, and I only have access to AND, NOT and ADD. There are 3 condition codes, negative, zero and positive, which are set when you use any of these operations. How I went about it was : (1) And the number with 1000 0000 0000 0000 to set condition codes to positive if the most significant bit is 1. (2) Add the number with itself. This shifts bits one to the left. (3) If the MSB was 1, add 1 to the result. (4) Loop threw (1)-(3) r times. I'm wondering if anyone has any hints to some more efficient methods? Thanks!

• Evolution has no access to couchdb

  Evolution gives the error "Cannot open addressbook". "We were unable to open this addressbook. This either means you have entered an incorrect URI, or the server is unreachable". "Details: Operation not permitted". (rough translation from Dutch). Enabling verbose logging in (desktop)couchdb tells me roughly the same: [info] [<0.7875.1>] 127.0.0.1 - - 'PUT' /contacts/ 400 [debug] [<0.7875.1>] httpd 400 error response: {"error":"invalid_consumer","reason":"Invalid consumer (key or signature method)."} It seems that evolution tries to fetch the contacts, then couchdb denies access, and then evolution fails to do a proper oauth. This is on Ubuntu 10.10, with its default dektopcouch 1.0.1. Any hints on where to start would be most appreciated :)

• Can't print, CUPS package corrupted and hangs on re-install

  When I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.4 (Maverick), the upgrade process got stuck on the post-installation of the CUPS package. I had to kill processes and run several forced updates before I could finally get regular updated. Ever since I can't print - The printed file gets messed up and crashes the printer. I also can't re-install CUPS, as each time the installation hangs and I have to kill it before it completes. I tried to find a workaround for this problem, but in vain. Does anyone know how to bypass this? Or at least why can the post-installation hang, and how to re-install a problematic package? Some system specs and other hints: Dell D630 laptop running Ubuntu 10.4, Gnome desktop, standard LAN network, printing to an LPD server. Everything worked fine on 9.10. Also, the printed files themselves are not corrupted. The problem does not seem to be Evince-specific, but common to all printouts.

• How can I boot into Windows from GRUB rescue WITHOUT CD drive?

  I took this from another website's string where i found no good answer This is my situation: installed Ubuntu without a CD (using A USB) dual boot installation (Windows 7+Ubuntu) didn't like the installation and decided to boot into Windows and delete the Linux partitions forgot to fix the mbr from within Windows Now, when I boot, I am stuck in the GRUB rescue limbo. Simple question: How can I boot into Windows from GRUB rescue? I cannot boot from CD because I don't have a CD drive, therefore the usual solutions (recovery CD etc) do not work. Any hints? Is there a way i can maybe do this through a USB? Thanks

• How can a load and play an .x model using vertex animation in XNA?

  From a game I developed years ago, I still have character models that my former 3D engine designer created and that I'd like to reuse in a Windows Phone project now. However, the files are in DirectX format (.x) containing keyframe animation only. No bones. No skeleton. There are a lot of animation keys defined on several frames to animate the characters. I don't quite understand how that works, to be frankly. However, I did a lot of research regarding a possible way of getting the characters animated via XNA on Windows Phone and all I found are hints that it is generally possible but not supported. Possibly by implementing own Content Importers and Processors. I didn't find anyone who successfully did something like that yet. How should I go about loading and displaying these models in XNA?

• Keyboard layout issues using Ubuntu 12.04 in ssh via X11 for mac

  I just upgraded from 10.04 LTS to 12.04 LTS on my server (DELL Intel XEON). By SSH login from my mac (OS X Lion) everything is fine (no issues with command lines) but when I open a window through X11, the keyboard layout is now completely messed up. As an owner of a french mac keyboard, I got used to such issues and could deal by guessing the "QUERTY" keys, but this time it's worse. To fix it, I tried: 1/ sudo dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration = no effect 2/ sudo gnome-control-center then change the keyboard settings, however adding a couple of keyboard layouts did not change anything. I feel there is something to do with the X11 forwarding. Any hints? Thanks

• XUbuntu won't boot

  I can't properly boot my XUbuntu desktop. It just hangs on the console without any visible errors. The only way i can boot it properly is choosing "recovery mode" in GRUB and then selecting "continue booting" in recovery menu. It's really annoying. • AMD Catalyst diskless cluster

  I'm using Ubuntu 13.10 to set up a diskless compute cluster. When I use the procedure detailed in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DisklessUbuntuHowto, I successfully am able to boot all four nodes. However, once I install Catalyst, I immediately have problems: only one diskless node boots properly, with the other two hanging while attempting to start X. My assumption is that my Catalyst build was somehow specific to the node which I booted from first, which somehow prevents the other nodes from loading Catalyst. Can anyone provide hints to help solve this? Thank you in advance!

• SEO for images: can I use a different (cookieless) domain?

  Hello, We want to increase the value of some of our important images by means of SEO, and we want to start serving them from a different, i.e. cookieless, domain. We want to go from http://www.example.com/images/1234.jpg to http://www.example.com/germany/bavaria/landscape.jpg which can easily be done via URL rewriting. Then on the other hand, we would like to serve the image from a completely different domain, let's say http://www.examplestatic.com/germany/bavaria/landscape.jpg, to save the overhead of sending the cookie from www.example.com. Somehow I feel that this is not a good idea because I move the image away from the content by putting it on a different domain. Can anyone shed some light on this problem? Naturally, I would just use a different subdomain, e.g. img.example.com, but we already use subdomains for languages and our cookies are valid for all subdomains of example.com, so this won't help. • iOS build machine setup: problem with certificates

  some background: work with multiple team mates each work on our own MBP I'm setting a build machine that we can git push to in order to generate a build (aim to allow anyone to push to the build machine and then generate an archive, upload to testflight and send on its way) problem: getting my apple developer certificates on the build machine. I installed Lion, XCode, etc and I signed into my developer account through Xcode organizer, provisioning profiles download,etc. but beside each one it says: valid signing identity not found I also download my certificate from the developer.apple.com page, imported it into keychain, etc but no luck. Anyone else have a similar issue? Or maybe hints to fix? Thanks

• Fonts in menu are larger than they should be under Awesome WM

  I upgraded to oneiric ocelot, running awesome wm. Everything works, more or less, fine but one thing I've noticed is that now my menu fonts and my menu symbols are larger than I'd like them to be. I used to set them in font settings, but now (for one I don't even know where font settings are anymore, I tried gnome-tweak-tool) the font-settings are gone? Surely I'm missing something. My prime example is the program evince whose symbols are ginormous. Any hints how to tweak it?
