• Passing ViewData to PartialView returned from using Html.Action

    - by RWGodfrey
    I want to embed a partial view in an ASP.NET MVC page by returning it from an action method. In my base view, I would have: <%= Html.Action("MyPartialViewAction") %> My controller would have an action method like: [ChildActionOnly] public ActionResult MyPartialViewAction() { return PartialView("MyPartialView"); } I expected the returned partial view (MyPartialView) to have access to the ViewData that was set in the base page's controller action but that doesn't appear to be the case. If I insert the partial view by using the following in my base view it works: <% Html.RenderPartial("MyPartialView") %> I don't want to do that though because I want my "MyPartialViewAction" to execute logic to determine WHICH partial view to return.

  • Pass existing model into AJAX PartialViewResult

    - by Joe
    I’m using AJAX to asynchronously update a partial view and need to pass the existing model into the partial view. Controller Action public ActionResult Edit(int id) { var vM = new MyViewModel(); // vM is viewModel return View(vM); } Edit View @using (Html.BeginForm()) { @Html.ValidationSummary(true) ... @Html.Partial("AJAX_Views/_Ship") _Ship Partial View @model MyProject.ViewModels.MyViewModel

Shipping       Address  @Ajax.ActionLink("Delete", "SHIPDEL", new AjaxOptions { UpdateTargetId = "Ship", InsertionMode = InsertionMode.Replace, HttpMethod = "Get" })

Street:
@Html.HiddenFor(m => m.CmpAdrsSh.Id) @Html.HiddenFor(m => m.CmpAdrsSh.CompPersonId) @Html.HiddenFor(m => m.CmpAdrsSh.IsShip)
@Html.EditorFor(m => m.CmpAdrsSh.Street) @Html.ValidationMessageFor(m => m.CmpAdrsSh.Street)

City:

@Html.EditorFor(m => m.CmpAdrsSh.City) @Html.ValidationMessageFor(m => m.CmpAdrsSh.City)

State:

@Html.DropDownList("CmpAdrsSh.State", (IEnumerable<SelectListItem>)ViewBag._State) @Html.ValidationMessageFor(m => m.CmpAdrsSh.State)

Zip:

@Html.EditorFor(m => m.CmpAdrsSh.Zip) @Html.ValidationMessageFor(m => m.CmpAdrsSh.Zip)

_ShipDel Partial View @model MyProject.ViewModels.MyViewModel

Shipping       Address Marked for Deletion.

To not Delete Select Cancel below!

@Html.HiddenFor(m => m.CmpAdrsSh.Street) @Html.HiddenFor(m => m.CmpAdrsSh.City) @Html.HiddenFor(m => m.CmpAdrsSh.State) @Html.HiddenFor(m => m.CmpAdrsSh.Zip) Controller PartialViewResult Action public PartialViewResult SHIPDEL() { return PartialView("AJAX_Views/_ShipDel"); } I tried adding this.ModelState to the Action but then the view will not render. I'm guessing I somehow have to pass the model to the SHIPDEL Action first. I couldn't find an @Ajax.ActionLink overload that would allow this. public PartialViewResult SHIPDEL() { return PartialView("AJAX_Views/_ShipDel", this.ModelState); } In the _ShipDel Partial View I need to expose the CmpAdrsSh properties so the model validates in the POST Action. The model is empty at this point. How do I pass the existing vM model into the _ShipDel partial view? Thank you,

  • Error when rendering a partial (RoR) passing the form as a local variable

    - by Dmitriy Likhten
    In my main template I have the following: <%= render :partial => "delivery_date", :collection => @brand.delivery_dates, :locals => {:form => f} %> However when the partial tries to use the form local variable, I get this error Showing app/views/brands/_delivery_date.html.erb where line #2 raised: wrong number of arguments (0 for 1) Extracted source (around line #2): 1: <%= delivery_date.id %> 2: <%= form.text_field :name %> 3: <% new_or_existing = delivery_date.new_record? ? 'new' : 'existing' %> 4: <% prefix = "brand[#{new_or_existing}_delivery_date_attributes][]" %> 5: <% fields_for prefix, delivery_date do |dd_f| %> Does anyone understand what this error means? Actually I want to do <% form.fields_for delivery_date do |dd_f| %> but that fails as well.

  • asp.net mvc 2 multiple partial view

    - by 303
    Hey Guys, I have a contoller that renders 3 different views. But I also have a common part (div) for every view. I thought that I can create an UserControl with own controller and include that control on my views (New controller and view as controll). How should I use that UserControl? Should it be a partial view? Or different approach - can I have multiple partial views on one page? I've been searching the web for the last view days and haven't found working solution that suits me. Also I want to use Strongly Typed views/data. Cheers

  • Object model design: collections on classes

    - by Luke Puplett
    Hi all, Consider Train.Passengers, what type would you use for Passengers where passengers are not supposed to be added or removed by the consuming code? I'm using .NET Framework, so this discussion would suit .NET, but it could apply to a number of modern languages/frameworks. In the .NET Framework, the List is not supposed to be publicly exposed. There's Collection and ICollection and guidance, which I tend to agree with, is to return the closest concrete type down the inheritance tree, so that'd be Collection since it is already an ICollection. But Collection has read/write semantics and so possibly it should be a ReadOnlyCollection, but its arguably common sense not to alter the contents of a collection that you don't have intimate knowledge about so is it necessary? And it requires extra work internally and can be a pain with (de)serialization. At the extreme ends I could just return Person[] (since LINQ now provides much of the benefits that previously would have been afforded by a more specified collection) or even build a strongly-typed PersonCollection or ReadOnlyPersonCollection! What do you do? Thanks for your time. Luke

  • Using IComparable<T> Interface

    - by Pawan_Mishra
    Level : Beginner to Intermediate C# language has constantly evolved over a constant period of time.Each new version introduced new features which changed the way we programmed and solved the problems. Whether it was introduction of generics in C# 2.0 , LINQ in C# 3.0 or concept of dynamic programming in C# 4.0 , each of them had or will have greater impact on our programming style.As a developer we don’t have much option but to evolve and redefine our self in this constantly changing environment...(read more)

  • Changing CSS classes when different strings are displayed in a text element with jQuery

    - by Nick Maddren
    I'm just wondering if this method would be possible using jQuery HTML and PHP. Basically I have a filtering system were products are listed, some have different attribute values such as Hatchback for example. The text element that holds these PHP echo's also have a css class that implements an icon. I'm just wondering can I alter class's that are added to a html element just by looking at the string? So for example if the string displays "Pick-up" then jQuery alters the class and adds the one associated with the "Pick-up" string? Thanks sorry if this is a little confusing, I can explain more if needed.

  • how to double buffer in multiple classes with java

    - by kdavis8
    I am creating a Java 2D video game. I can load graphics just fine, but when it gets into double buffering I have issues. My source code package myPackage; import java.awt.Color; import java.awt.Graphics; import java.awt.Graphics2D; import java.awt.Image; import java.awt.Toolkit; import java.awt.image.BufferStrategy; import java.awt.image.BufferedImage; import javax.swing.JFrame; public class GameView extends JFrame { private BufferedImage backbuffer; private Graphics2D g2d; public GameView() { setBounds(0, 0, 500, 500); setVisible(true); setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); backbuffer = new BufferedImage(getHeight(), getWidth(), BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_BGR); g2d = backbuffer.createGraphics(); Toolkit tk = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit(); Image img = tk.getImage(this.getClass().getResource("cage.png")); g2d.setColor(Color.red); //g2d.drawString("Hello",100,100); g2d.drawImage(img, 100, 100, this); repaint(); } public static void main(String args[]) { new GameView(); } public void paint(Graphics g) { g2d = (Graphics2D)g; g2d.drawImage(backbuffer, 0, 0, this); } }

  • Is it appropriate for a class to only be a collection of information with no logic?

    - by qegal
    Say I have a class Person that has instance variables age, weight, and height, and another class Fruit that has instance variables sugarContent and texture. The Person class has no methods save setters and getters, while the Fruit class has both setters and getters and logic methods like calculateSweetness. Is the Fruit class the type of class that is better practice than the Person class. What I mean by this is that the Person class seems like it doesn't have much purpose; it exists solely to organize data, while the Fruit class organizes data and actually contains methods for logic.

  • Class Design and Structure Online Web Store

    - by Phorce
    I hope I have asked this in the right forum. Basically, we're designing an Online Store and I am designing the class structure for ordering a product and want some clarification on what I have so far: So a customer comes, selects their product, chooses the quantity and selects 'Purchase' (I am using the Facade Pattern - So subsystems execute when this action is performed). My class structure: < Order > < Product > <Customer > There is no inheritance, more Association < Order has < Product , < Customer has < Order . Does this structure look ok? I've noticed that I don't handle the "Quantity" separately, I was just going to add this into the "Product" class, but, do you think it should be a class of it's own? Hope someone can help.

  • Deserialize inherited classes into the same list in XNA

    - by M0rgenstern
    I am writing a Gui for a game (for what else ...). Therefor I wrote a class GuiElement which has some serializeable fields. From this class I deflect a Class "Button" which has one serializeable field more. Furthermore, I have a Class GuiWindow, which is as well deflected from "GuiElement". An Object of this Class has a Field "HandledElements" of the type "List". To know the layout of the Menues, I use XML-Files, which look like that (for example): <XnaContent xmlns:Generic="System.Collections.Generic"> <Asset Type="System.Collections.Generic.List[GUI.GuiWindow]">
<Position>0 0</Position> <AlternativeImagePath></AlternativeImagePath> <IsActive>true</IsActive>
<HandledElements>
<Position>100 100</Position> <AlternativeImagePath></AlternativeImagePath> <IsActive>true</IsActive>

Optionen

</HandledElements>

<Position>0 0</Position> <AlternativeImagePath></AlternativeImagePath> <IsActive>false</IsActive>
<HandledElements> </HandledElements>
</Asset> </XnaContent> As you can see, the first window has in its "HandledElements" List an Item with the Field . This is a field which only a Button has. The Problem is now: I can't deserialize this XML file, because GuiElement does not have this Field, it only has the few fields above. I thought it would know automatically which Class to use,but it doesn't. Do I really have to give my windows a list for each child class of GuiElement? Or can I do another workaround?

  • Liskov substitution and abstract classes / strategy pattern

    - by Kolyunya
    I'm trying to follow LSP in practical programming. And I wonder if different constructors of subclasses violate it. It would be great to hear an explanation instead of just yes/no. Thanks much! P.S. If the answer is no, how do I make different strategies with different input without violating LSP? class IStrategy { public: virtual void use() = 0; }; class FooStrategy : public IStrategy { public: FooStrategy(A a, B b) { c = /* some operations with a, b */ } virtual void use() { std::cout << c; } private: C c; }; class BarStrategy : public IStrategy { public: BarStrategy(D d, E e) { f = /* some operations with d, e */ } virtual void use() { std::cout << f; } private: F f; };

  • Should I use a Class or Dictionary to Store Form Values

    - by Shamim Hafiz
    I am working on a C# .NET Application, where I have a Form with lots of controls. I need to perform computations depending on the values of the controls. Therefore, I need to pass the Form values to a function and inside that function, several helper functions will be called depending on the Control element. Now, I can think of two ways to pass all the Form values: i) Save everything in a Dictionary and pass the Dictionary to the function or ii) Have a class with attributes that corresponds to each of the Form element. Which of these two approaches , or any other, is better?
