• How to combine template partial specialization and template argument deduction

  My understanding is that template argument deduction is only for function templates, but function templates does not allow partial specialization. Is there a way to achieve both? I basically want to achieve a function-like object (can be a functor) with the signature template<class InputIterator1, class InputIterator2, class OutputIterator, int distribution> void GetQuantity(InputIterator1 frist1, InputIterator1 last1, InputIterator2 first2, OutputIterator result, double supply, double limit); Depending on the value of distribution, I want to have a couple of specializations of this template. And when I call this function,I basically do not want to specify all the type parameters, because they are many of them (and thus I need argument deduction)!

• counter variable not working?

  Just like many things in rails, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't... Showing app/views/admin/products/_variant.html.erb where line #8 raised: undefined local variable or method `variant_counter' for #<ActionView::Base:0x107f7ae10> I only want to display variant_counter from partial _variant. This was the render caller code: <%= render :partial => '/admin/products/variant', :collection => product.variants %> The funny thing is, I have been using partial counter heaps number of times, somehow now I encountered this issue. Could anybody point me out what are there to find out what may went wrong?

• Track pageviews in Google Analytics on partial url of Grails application

  For my Grails application I want to set up Google Analytics to track only "partial" url's. I 'll explain: a typical Grails url consists of the following parts: domain + application-name + controller + action + id e.g. www.mydomain.com/myapp/controller/action/12345 As far as I understand for Google Analytics the page to be tracked is identified by the entire url. For my purpose I'm not interested in the id part of the url: I want to know which actions have been performed, but I need not know for which id the action was executed. And of course I would like a generic solution, because I have multiple controllers and multiple actions... Maybe some kind of filter stating "I want to track pages 3 levels deep (/myapp/controller/action)" would do? Or a filter stating "exclude everything from url after the last /"? For example '1' AND 1=1-- Should break down into tokens like [0] => [SQL_STRING, '1'] [1] => [SQL_AND] [2] => [SQL_INT, 1] [3] => [SQL_AND] [4] => [SQL_INT, 1] [5] => [SQL_COMMENT] [6] => [SQL_QUERY_END] Are their any at least lexers for SQL that I base mine off of or any good tools like bison for C# (though I'd rather not write my own grammar as I need to support most if not all the grammar of MySQL 5)

• Generate EF4 POCO classes first time only

  The problem I'm having is, using the POCO templates, generating my POCO classes the first time only and not overwriting them when the templates are re-ran. I know this sounds hokey and the reason is that I'm actually changing these templates and trying to generate metadata classes rather than the actual POCO classes, but these metadata classes will be hand-edited and I want to keep those edits in the future but still regenerate a certain amount of it. I have it all working exactly as I want except for the regeneration of the files. I have looked into T4 and it seems that there is a flag to do just this (see the Output.PreserveExistingFile property) but I don't understand where/how to set this flag. If you can tell me where/how to set this in the default POCO templates, then I think that's all I really need. Thanks!! :-)

  Recently while trying to answer a questions here, I ran some test code to see how Xcode/gdb reported the class of instances in class clusters. • Dynamic access of classes of a given namespace

  Hi! I'm writing an interface that will be implemented by a lot of classes, and I'm writing a class that will hold a collection of instances of these implementations. Every class will have a default constructor. So, is there a simple way (e.g. using some kind of reflection) to put an instance of each of these implementing classes to the collection? Besides doing it manually, which is simple, yes, but a lot of work and error prone (what if I missed an implementation while writing the method? What if a new implementation came and I forgot to update the given method?). So, what I would like is to be able to iterate through all classes of a given namespace or maybe through the list of all available classes. My method then would simply check, through reflection, if the given class implements the given interface, and if it does, puts it into the collection. Thank you.

  I have two models -- User and Entry -- that are related through a has_many relationship (a User has many Entries). I'm using RESTful routing, and have the following in my routes.rb file: map.resource :user, :controller => "users" do |user| user.resources :entries end This seems to work, but in my partial _form file, when I do this: form_for [@current_user, @entry] do |f| # Form stuff end It generates a URL like this: /user/entries.%23%3Cuser:0xb6a6aea8%3E instead of /user/entries Am I missing something? I should note that the correct classes are applied to the form when doing creation vs. editing, so it does seem to be correctly interpreting what I'm trying to do -- it's just that I can't submit the form to an invalid url.

• Hibernate: Querying objects by attributes of inherited classes

  Hi all, I ran into a problem with Hibernate concerning queries on classes which use inheritance. Basically I've the following class hierarchy: @Entity @Table( name = "recording" ) class Recording { ClassA attributeSet; ... } @Entity @Inheritance( strategy = InheritanceType.JOINED ) @Table( name = "classA" ) public class ClassA { String Id; ... } @Entity @Table( name = "ClassB1" ) @PrimaryKeyJoinColumn( name = "Id" ) public class ClassB1 extends ClassA { private Double P1300; private Double P2000; } @Entity @Table( name = "ClassB2" ) @PrimaryKeyJoinColumn( name = "Id" ) public class ClassB2 extends ClassA { private Double P1300; private Double P3000; } The hierarchy is already given like this and I cannot change it easily. As you can see ClassB1 and ClassB2 inherit from ClassA. Both classes contain a set of attributes which sometimes even have the same names (but I can't move them to ClassA since there are possible more sub-classes which do not use them). The Recording class references one instance of one of this classes. Now my question: What I want to do is selecting all Recording objects in my database which refer to an instance of either ClassB1 or ClassB2 with e.g. the field P1300 == 15.5 (so this could be ClassB1 or ClassB2 instances since the P1300 attribute is declared in both classes). What I tried is something like this: Criteria criteria = session.createCriteria(Recording.class); criteria.add( Restrictions.eq( "attributeSet.P1300", new Double(15.5) ) ); criteria.list(); But since P1300 is not an attribute of ClassA hibernate throws an exception telling me: could not resolve property: P1300 of: ClassA How can I tell hibernate that it should search in all subclasses to find the attribute I want to filter? • ASP.NET Ajax partial postback and jQuery problem

  A control contains some HTML and some jQuery to handle a fancy tooltip to display when you click an image within a div. The control is then used on several different pages, sometimes within an updatePanel, sometimes not. I have the following code to handle loading the jQuery after a partial postback when the control is displayed within an update panel. Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManager.getInstance().add_endRequest(EndRequestHandler); function EndRequestHandler(sender, args) { $('img.ormdShipping').each(function(){ $(this).qtip({ // some qtip options go here }) }); } Problem is, the jQuery doesn't load when the control is used anywhere other than an updatePanel. Do I need a second function that's triggered outside of the EndRequestHandler?

  The Java tutorials that I read, like to use nested classes to demonstrate a concept, a feature or use. This led me to initially implement a sample project I created just like that: Lots of nested classes in the main activity class. It works, but now I got a monstrous monolithic .java file. I find it somewhat inconvenient and I now intend to break to multiple .java files/classes. It occurred to me, however, that sometimes there may be reasons not to take classes out of their enclosing class. If so, what are good reasons to keep a module large, considering modularity and ease of maintenance?

• Do Hibernate table classes need to be Serializable?

  I have inherited a Websphere Portal project that uses Hibernate 3.0 to connect to a SQL Server database. There are about 130 Hibernate table classes in this project. They all implement Serializable. None of them declare a serialVersionUID field, so the Eclipse IDE shows a warning for all of these classes. Is there any actual need for these classes to implement Serializable? If so, is there any tool to add a generated serialVersionUID field to a large number of classes at once (just to make the warnings go away) ?

• Partial Upload With storbinary in python

  I've written some python code to download an image using urllib.urlopen().read() and then upload it to an FTP site using ftplib.FTP().storbinary() but I'm having a problem. Sometimes the image file is only partially uploaded, so I get images with the bottom 20% or so cut off. I've checked the locally downloaded version and I have successfully downloaded the entire image, which leads me to believe that it is a problem with storbinary. I believe I am opening and closing all of the files correctly. Does anyone have any clues as to why I'm getting a partial upload with storbinary? Update: When I run through the commands in the Python shell, the upload completes successfully, I don't know why it would be different from when run as a script...

  How can I put in additional methods for manipulating color ? Best would be to overload the struct System.Windows.Media.Color. It is NOT a class (in c#). Now i'm tinkering with putting (in the same file for testing or must i put it in a different file) an namespace (Silverlight Application36 or System.Windows.Media ?) and a partial struct Color Normalize (double R, ...). I should see MyColor.Normalize() start being recognized by intellisense ? I'm not. I'm looking to put in a suite of overloaded color manipulations using floating and double numbers instead of unsigned byte integers. Any hints while I wack at it ? Cheers! dr.K

• How to disable sql creation for JPA entity classes

  We have some JPA entity classes which are currently under development and wouldn't want them as part of the testing cycle. We tried commenting out the relevant entity classes in META-INF\persistence.xml but the hbm2ddl reverse engineering tool still seems to generate SQL for those entities. How do I tell my code to ignore these classes? Are there any annotations for these or should I have to comment out the @Entity annotation along with my changes in persistence.xml file.

• When did C++ get nested classes?

  Somehow I never noticed until today that C++ supports nested classes. This surprised me because when I was learning C++ back in the '90s, I specifically remember nested classes being something that Object Pascal and Java had, but which C++ did not. I asked an old programmer friend about it and he concurred that he recalls C++ not having nested classes. Is my recollection of C++ not having nested classes mistaken, or were they actually added to the standard at some point in the past fifteen years? I tried searching Google for information on this topic and I haven't come up with anything helpful yet. It could also be that I'm thinking of nested functions, which Pascal certainly supports but C does not.

• C# VS 2008 Build Configurations - using different classes for different builds

  I'm writing an application which has two classes that provide basically the same functionality but for different situations. I'd like to have three versions of the software - one where the user can change an ini file to configure the program to use one of the two classes, and then one version that only uses one of the two classes. Right now I have it working via an ini file, but I'd like to be able to build versions that don't include the code for the unneeded class at all. What is the best way to go about this? My current line of thinking is that since both classes derive from a common interface I'll just add a compile time conditional that looks at the active build configuration and decides whether to compile that class. What is the syntax to do that? Thanks in advance for your help and input!

  I have a struct viz: struct NameKey { std::string fullName; std::string probeName; std::string format; std::string source; } which are held in a QList: QList<NameKey> keyList; what I need to do is find an occurence in keyList of a partial match where the search is for a NameKey that only has two members filled. All the keyList entries are full NameKey's. My current implementation is , well, boring in the extreme with too many if's and conditions. So, If I have a DataKey with a fullName and a format I need to find all the occurences in keyList which match. Any useful Qt/boost things available?

  SPL and PHP allows you to create objects on the fly from classes, that fulfill certain conditions, such as implementing certain interfaces and stuff like that. However, I would like to do something similar in c# and automatically create objects from all classes in a namespace and invoke a particular method from those classes that implement a certain interface. My experience developing desktop apps is very limited. I am not quite sure if I should use delegates to archive this or if reflection is really the way to go.
