  • Best way to store application images taken via camera

    - by Dave
Hi all, I'm just looking for some insight into what would be the best way for me to store images as part of my app. I have an activity that represents a 'Job' which has a couple of edittext's and underneath was planning on using the Gallery component to show images relevant to this job. The job data is stored in a database (on the sdcard) so was also thinking of creating a table to store 'JobImages' and having each image stored as a byte array. But I'm not sure if it would be better to store the images directly on sdcard under a folder structure specific to my application and the job. E.g. using the job ID number as a folder name. Depending on which method I use will greatly determine the code that goes into an 'adapter' that allows me to bind to the gallery component so before I begin I was wondering if anyone has had the same design problem and what option they chose. Thanks, Dave

  • Permission errors when cropping after taking a photo

    - by CGM
Hello everybody, I want to take a photo with an Intent on android.provider.MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE, next crop the result with: Intent intent = new Intent("com.android.camera.action.CROP"); intent.setClassName("com.android.camera", "com.android.camera.CropImage"); I follow the sugestions made at: Android: Crop an Image after Taking it With Camera with a Fixed Aspect Ratio However when calling the crop activity I get (already checked the LogCat output) a permission error, saying something like: Permission denial on a Intent to access the temporary image created by the camera activity on my SDcard. Can you please suggest a solution for Android 2.2 ? Thank you

  • iphone app photo upload to server from app threads

    - by user290380
I have an app that needs to upload a least 5 photos to a server using API call available with the server. For that I am planning to use threads which will take care of photo upload and the main process can go on with the navigation of views etc. What I cant decide is whether it is OK to spawn five separate threads in iphone or use a single thread that will do the upload. In the later cases obviously it will become quite slow. Basically an HTTP POST request will be made to the server with the NSMutableURLRequest object using NSCOnnection. More threads mean more complexity and sync issues, but I can try to write code as neat as possible if it means better performance than a single thread which is simple but is a real stopper if performance is considered. Anybody with any experience in this kinda app. ??

  • FileNotFoundException when cropping a photo

    - by James G
I'm trying to crop a photo to use in a Live Wallpaper but I'm getting a FileNotFoundException when the crop activity tries to save my new cropped image. This is the code I'm using: File file = new File(getFilesDir(), "wallpaper.jpg"); Intent intent = new Intent("com.android.camera.action.CROP"); intent.setData(uri); DisplayMetrics metrics = new DisplayMetrics(); getWindowManager().getDefaultDisplay().getMetrics(metrics); intent.putExtra("outputX", metrics.widthPixels * 2); intent.putExtra("outputY", metrics.heightPixels); intent.putExtra("aspectX", metrics.widthPixels * 2); intent.putExtra("aspectY", metrics.heightPixels); intent.putExtra("scale", true); intent.putExtra("noFaceDetection", true); intent.putExtra("output", Uri.parse("file:/" + file.getAbsolutePath())); startActivityForResult(intent, REQUEST_CROP_IMAGE); The wallpaper.jpg file seems to exist on DDMS file explorer so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

  • Approximate photo of a simple drawing using lines

    - by user3704596
As an input I have a photo of a simple symbol, e.g.: https://www.dropbox.com/s/nrmsvfd0le0bkke/symbol.jpg I would like to detect the straight lines in it, like points of start and ends of the lines. In this case, assuming the top left of the symbol is (0,0), the lines would be defined like this: start end (coordinates of beginning and end of a line) 1. (0,0); (0,10) (vertical line) 2. (0,10); (15, 15) 3. (15,15); (0, 20) 4. (0,20); (0,30) How can I do it (pereferably using OpenCV)? I though about Hough lines, but they seem to be good for perfect thin straight lines, which is not the case in a drawing. I'll probably work on binarized image, too.

  • Reconstructing simple 3d enviroment(room) from photo

    - by Riz
I have photo of a room with three walls and floor/ceiling or both. I am trying to reconstruct this room in 3d asking user for minimal input. Right now I use 8 points defined by user, angles of left and right wall(they can be quite different from 90) and one size "InLeftBottom-InRightBottom"(I need to have real size of this room for later use). I have no info about user's camera(I can read EXIF to get FOV and use constant height but this can be only used as additional info). Is this possible to ask user for less info? Maybe it's possible to get wall angles without user interaction? Or maybe I am completly wrong and should use different approach?

  • nextgen gallery order issue

    - by mro
Hi, wonder if anyone can help. I think what I'm after won't be solved by any exsiting code in nextgen plugin (in wordpress) due to the custom way I'm using it hence I come to stackoverflow for some opnions. Bascially - I am only really using the admin of nextgen to work with the gallerys etc. The actual meat of the functionality I'm querying the nextgen DB's direct from my code, I would have loved to use the inbuilt gallerys in nextgen, but my spec specifics were so custom I couldn't. My issue is, I need to pull the images from the DB's in the order it is in the admin (ie if a user pulls the sort order around in the drag and drop area). I have noticed however this doesn't affect the image id order in the DB, and wouldn't expect it to - that would be some complex shifting around just to reorder everytime surely. So obviously when I query the DB the order it's looking at is when it was created, by image id, with my filtering on top. I'm wondering though if there is a way I can query that sort order that's determined in the admin somehow, then at least I could sort the array somehow in the code ? does next gen store it's user custom sort order somewhere ? Hope this makes sense :) any thoughts appreciated. Thanks

  • Pick an image from the Gallery

    - by Steve Jones
I have seen a lot of posts about this, and it seems like the code below should work. I have created an SD Card image and added it to the emulator (and that works fine). Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_PICK); intent.setType("image/*"); //intent.setAction(Intent.ACTION_GET_CONTENT); startActivityForResult(intent, 1); It does launch and allow selection of images, but when I click on an image, everything exits and the emulator returns to the home screen, not the back to my app. My onActivityResult is never called either. What am I missing?

  • Picking photo from Photochooser or holding hardware back button cause active timers ring

    - by Nznoonee
This is very strange problem, and all the people I had asked to confirm it said that it takes place. I have a Threading.Timer instance which fires every 15 minutes. And if I call the PhotoChooser view and then select a photo from it, when going back to the calling page my application calls that timer's callback! I tried different timers either it be Timer from Threading namespace or Dispatcher timer. The same happens when being in my app I hold the back button of my device and then choose the app from the list. My application is as plain as it can be - the timer with a callback and method calling PhotoChooser. Could anyone help with solution or workaround please?

  • OpenGL performance on rendering "virtual gallery" (textures)

    - by maticus
I have a considerable (120-240) amount of 640x480 images that will be displayed as textured flat surfaces (4 vertex polygons) in a 3D environment. About 30-50% of them will be visible in a given frame. It is possible for them to crossover. Nothing else will be present in the environment. The question is - will the modern and/or few-years-old (lets say Radeon 9550) GPU cope with that, and what frame rate can I expect? I aim for 20FPS, but 30-40 would be nice. Would changing the resolution to 320x240 make it more probable to happen? I do not have any previous experience with performance issues of 3D graphics on modern GPUs, and unfortunately I must make a design choice. I don't want to waste time on doing something that couldn't have worked :-)

  • Using phpFlickr, how would one display the primary photo from each photoset?

    - by Michael
    Referring to this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2561475/flickr-phpflickr-api how would you display a primary photo from a photoset rather than all photos and photosets? this is the code I have so far: photosets_getList($user); ? <?php $photoset_id = $ph_set['id']; $photos = $f->photosets_getPhotos($photoset_id); foreach ($photos['photoset']['photo'] as $photo): ?> <?php if($parentID == $ph_set['parent']): ?> <a rel="lightbox[album<?=$count;?>]" href="<?= $f->buildPhotoURL($photo, 'medium') ?>" title="<?= $photo['title'] ?>"> <?php endif;?> <img src="<?= $f->buildPhotoURL($photo, 'square') ?>" alt="<?= $photo['title'] ?>" width="75" height="75" title="<?= $photo['title'] ?>" /> <h3><?=$ph_set['title']?></h3> <?php if($parentID == $ph_set['parent']): ?> </a> </div> <?php endif;?>

  • Downloading image from Picasa Web Albums loses metadata

    - by Jarrod
I have several photos on my Picasa Web Albums account. I have added captions, tags and location information to many of them through the PWA web interface. I assumed that PWA was saving this information in an IPTC, or some other metadata tag inside the image, but whenever I go to 'Download Photo' (on a single image), the resulting image, when saved to my computer, has no tags whatsoever. Does anybody know why this is the case? Does PWA require Picasa to be installed to preserve this information?

  • Problems saving a photo to a file

    - by Peter vdL
Man, I am still not able to save a picture when I send an intent asking for a photo to be taken. Here's what I am doing: Make a URI representing the pathname android.content.Context c = getApplicationContext(); String fname = c.getFilesDir().getAbsolutePath()+"/parked.jpg"; java.io.File file = new java.io.File( fname ); Uri fileUri = Uri.fromFile(file); Create the Intent (don't forget the pkg name!) and start the activity private static int TAKE_PICTURE = 22; Intent intent = new Intent(android.provider.MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE ); intent.putExtra("com.droidstogo.boom1." + MediaStore.EXTRA_OUTPUT, fileUri); startActivityForResult( intent, TAKE_PICTURE ); The camera activity starts, and I can take a picture, and approve it. My onActivityResult() then gets called. But my file doesn't get written. The URI is: file:///data/data/com.droidstogo.boom1/files/parked.jpg I can create thumbnail OK (by not putting the extra into the Intent), and can write that file OK, and later read it back). Can anyone see what simple mistake I am making? Nothing obvious shows up in the logcat - the camera is clearly taking the picture. Thanks, Peter

  • UIImagePickerController does not deliver geo tag data

    - by Gregory Mace
When I use UIImagePickerController to select a photo, either from the Camera Roll or the Photo Library, the image that gets returned to me in the method 'didFinishPickingImage' does not contain the exif data for latitude and longitude. I know that the headers are there, because they show up when imported into iPhoto, also if I upload images from the Camera Roll, they also contain the exif headers for location. Is there a way to get UIImagePickerController to deliver that information as well?

  • Where specifically do UIImageWriteToSavePhotosAlbum or UISaveVideoAtPathToSavedPhotosAlbum save thei

    - by Chris Markle
Simple question I think and I'll be trying ot myself to see... When people talk about using UIImageWriteToSavePhotosAlbum or UISaveVideoAtPathToSavedPhotosAlbum is the "saved photos album" the "Camera Roll" or the "Photo Library" (or something else either than these two) that I see in the Photo Albums application? I don't think the doc makes it super-explicit as to which it is...

  • Gallery items become off-center when switching into landscape orientation.

    - by Sandile
Hey Guys, Thanks for your time. I'm writing an application for android 2.2 and I'm using a gallery to circulate through a list of images that the user can then click to navigate other portions of the application. In portrait orientation, everything is kosher: the images are displaying correctly (completely in the center of the screen as I intended); however, in landscape orientation, all the images in the gallery are strangely displaced a fixed distance to the left of the center of the screen. I've been researching this issue for hours now and haven't found a solution. I'm hoping that some android guru can aid me in the resolution of this bizarre rendering issue. MainMenuActivity.java relevant code snippet (the activity in which the gallery resides) Gallery optionList = (Gallery)findViewById(R.id.mainMenuOptionList); GalleryItem[] optionListItemIdArray = new GalleryItem[] { new GalleryItem(R.drawable.icon_main_menu_option_list_blackboard, "Start Next Lesson", "Start the next planned vocab lesson."), new GalleryItem(R.drawable.icon_main_menu_option_list_index_cards, "Review Words", "Manually look over old words."), new GalleryItem(R.drawable.icon_main_menu_option_list_dice, "Play Vocab Games", "Play games to reinforce knowledge."), new GalleryItem(R.drawable.icon_main_menu_option_list_calendar, "View Lesson Plan", "View the schedule for coming lessons."), new GalleryItem(R.drawable.icon_main_menu_option_list_pie_chart, "View Performance Report", "Evaluate your overall performance statistics."), new GalleryItem(R.drawable.icon_main_menu_option_list_settings, "Manage Settings", "Change and modify application settings.") }; optionList.setAdapter(new GalleryImageAdapter(this, optionListItemIdArray)); NOTE: A GalleryItem is a POJO with an image resource id, title and description. • Monitor-Specific Color Profile Results In Yellow Grayscale Images

    - by Zian Choy
I recently purchased a new Acer S201hl monitor. Many lay reviews compliment its color accuracy with people noting only a bit of a blueish tinge. After a little time, Windows found, and I installed, the Acer drivers via Microsoft Update. During the installation process, the software installed an ICC profile for the monitor from Acer. I recently noticed that when I view photos using Windows Live Photo Gallery, the colors are wrong. For example, grayscale document scans appear with yellow backgrounds instead of white backgrounds. This happens with both my external monitors and my ThinkPad's built-in screen. When I removed the monitor-specific profile from the list of profiles associated with a monitor (for example, removing the Acer profile from the Acer monitor), the problem went away for that screen. I checked with Microsoft KB939395 and though it says "an incorrect color profile [...] is used for the monitor," the profile associated with my ThinkPad's screen seemed to be correct, based on its name.

How to achieve this. please help me for this. @Override protected void onDraw(Canvas canvas) { super.onDraw(canvas); canvas.save(); scaleCount=scaleCount+scale; angleCount = addAngle(angleCount, Math.toDegrees(angle)); Log.v("Positions", "X: "+x+" " + "Y: "+y); Log.d("ScaleCount", String.valueOf(scaleCount)); Log.d("Angle", String.valueOf(angleCount)); if (!isInitialized) { int w = getWidth(); int h = getHeight(); position.set(w / 2, h / 2); isInitialized = true; } Paint paint = new Paint(); Log.v("Height and Width", "Height: "+ getHeight() + "Width: "+ getWidth()); transform.reset(); transform.postTranslate(-width / 2.0f, -height / 2.0f); transform.postRotate((float) Math.toDegrees(angle)); transform.postScale(scale, scale); transform.postTranslate(position.getX(), position.getY()); canvas.drawBitmap(bitmap, transform, paint); canvas.restore(); BitmapWidth=BitmapWidth+bitmap.getScaledWidth(canvas); BitmapHeight=BitmapHeight+bitmap.getScaledHeight(canvas); try { /*paint.setColor(0xFF007F00); canvas.drawCircle(vca.getX(), vca.getY(), 30, paint); paint.setColor(0xFF7F0000); canvas.drawCircle(vcb.getX(), vcb.getY(), 30, paint);*/ /*paint.setColor(0xFFFF0000); canvas.drawLine(vpa.getX(), vpa.getY(), vpb.getX(), vpb.getY(), paint); paint.setColor(0xFF00FF00); canvas.drawLine(vca.getX(), vca.getY(), vcb.getX(), vcb.getY(), paint);*/ } catch(NullPointerException e) { // Just being lazy here... } } @Override public boolean onTouch(View v, MotionEvent event) { vca = null; vcb = null; vpa = null; vpb = null; x=event.getX(); y=event.getY(); try { touchManager.update(event); if (touchManager.getPressCount() == 1) { vca = touchManager.getPoint(0); vpa = touchManager.getPreviousPoint(0); position.add(touchManager.moveDelta(0)); } else { if (touchManager.getPressCount() == 2) { vca = touchManager.getPoint(0); vpa = touchManager.getPreviousPoint(0); vcb = touchManager.getPoint(1); vpb = touchManager.getPreviousPoint(1); VMVector2D current = touchManager.getVector(0, 1); VMVector2D previous = touchManager.getPreviousVector(0, 1); float currentDistance = current.getLength(); float previousDistance = previous.getLength(); if (currentDistance-previousDistance != 0) { scale *= currentDistance / previousDistance; } angle -= VMVector2D.getSignedAngleBetween(current, previous); /*angleCount=angleCount+angle;*/ } } invalidate(); } catch(Exception exception) { // Log.d("VM", exception.getMessage()); } return true; }

  • How to handle images better in Android

    - by primal
In the microblogging application I am developing I wish to show an user image beside each post in the timeline. The images are small in size(max 50*50 dip) and are not more than 10 in number. I've two approaches in my mind. 1) Allow user to chose an image from Gallery on signing up. Send the image to the server and on subsequent signups load the image from the server. I'm worried whether this approach is doing too much unnecessary work. 2) The same method is same as above in first step but this time the image is not send to the server but a key value associated with the image is sent to the server. On subsequent signups, after obtaining the key from the server the specific image is loaded from gallery. I am not sure whether the second approach is possible. Any corrections on this aspect would be much appreciated. Also, Is it possible to store an image in SharedPreferences? Any new approach to handle this problem better are welcome.

  • Reusing Windows Picture and Fax Viewer process to load a new image from FileSystemWatcher

    - by Cory Larson
So for an idea for my birthday party I'm setting up a photo booth. I've got software to remotely control the camera and all that, but I need to write a little application to monitor the folder where the pictures get saved and display them. Here's what I've got so far. The issue is that I don't want to launch a new Windows Photo Viewer process every time the FileSystemWatcher sees a new file, I just want to load the latest image into the current instance of the Windows Photo Viewer (or start a new one if one isn't running). class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { new Program().StartWatching(); } public void StartWatching() { FileSystemWatcher incoming = new FileSystemWatcher(); incoming.Path = @"G:\TempPhotos\"; incoming.NotifyFilter = NotifyFilters.LastWrite | NotifyFilters.FileName; incoming.Filter = "*.jpg"; incoming.Created += new FileSystemEventHandler(ShowImage); incoming.EnableRaisingEvents = true; Console.WriteLine("Press \'q\' to quit."); while (Console.Read() != 'q') ; } private void ShowImage(object source, FileSystemEventArgs e) { string s1 = Environment.ExpandEnvironmentVariables("%windir%\\system32\\rundll32.exe "); string s2 = Environment.ExpandEnvironmentVariables("%windir%\\system32\\shimgvw.dll,ImageView_Fullscreen " + e.FullPath); Process.Start(s1, s2); Console.WriteLine("{0} : Image \"{0}\" at {1:t}.", e.ChangeType, e.FullPath, DateTime. Now); } } If you don't have a tried and true solution, a simple push in the right direction would be just as valuable. And FYI, this will be running on a 64-bit Windows 7 machine. Thanks!
