  • What does WIX's CloseApplication functionality do and how would can the application respond to such

    In the WIX setup I've got, when upgrading the application I have set a requirement to close down applications which might hold on to files which needs to be updated: <util:CloseApplication Id="CloseMyApp" Target="[MyAppExe]" CloseMessage="no" Description="!(loc.MyAppStillRunning)" RebootPrompt="no" ElevatedCloseMessage="no" /> The application on the other hand will capture closing down the window with a "user friendly" dialog box where the user can confirm that he or she wants to close down the application. I've experienced problems with the CloseApplication, and one theory is that the dialog box stops the application from closing. So the question is: Could this be a possible problem? If so - how can I have this confirmation dialog box and still behave properly when the installer asks the application to close down? Must I listen to Win32 messages (such as WM_QUIT/WM_CLOSE) or is there a .NET API which I can use to respond properly to these events?

    I have a table basically like so ID | ItemID | Start | End | --------------------------------------------------------------- 1 234 10/20/09 8:34:22 10/20/09 8:35:10 2 274 10/20/09 8:35:30 10/20/09 8:36:27 3 272 10/21/09 12:15:00 10/21/09 12:17:00 4 112 10/21/09 12:20:14 10/21/09 12:21:21 5 15 10/21/09 12:22:39 10/21/09 12:24:15 There are two "clusters" of entries here, 1-2 and 3-5 separated by a gap in time, specifically 30 minutes is what I'm interested in. What I would like is the first and last rows of the cluster of entries. This is fairly easy to achieve by retrieving all the rows and looping through them in order of start time, but I'd like to have it in SQL if possible. I'm using SQL Server 2008, thanks.

  • Facebook tab application scripting

    I have a web application that I am trying to port to Facebook. The app uses a few external javascript files. So initially I wanted to create an iframe Facebook application. However, it turns out that you cannot use iframes when creating a tab application(which is a requirement). By tab application I mean placing your app on the profile page next to the wall, info, photos, ect. tabs. Does any one know of a good tool to help convert my javascript to the FBJS scripting? Or better yet does anyone have a work around so that I can include my own javascript in this tabbed application? Thanks for the help.

  • Best Work Queue service for distributed clusters

    Hi there. I require a simple work queue type system for asynchronous task management. I have looked at both beanstalkd and gearman. However, both these seem to assume that the client and the queue server are on the same network, and therefore that there will always be a reliable network between them. I need one that can support the client and server being in different places in the world, and be able to manage temporary loss of network connection between clusters. Ideally, this would work in such a way where I post a job to a local proxy that attempts to send it to the main queue server. If there is no network connection, it would try again later, however it would not lose the job or delay the client. Any recommendations?

    It should not be possible to run multiple instances of my application. Therefore the project source contains: CreateMutex (nil, False, PChar (ID)); if (GetLastError = ERROR_ALREADY_EXISTS) then Halt; Now I want to restart my application programmatically. The usual way would be: AppName := PChar(Application.ExeName) ; ShellExecute(Handle,'open', AppName, nil, nil, SW_SHOWNORMAL) ; Application.Terminate; But this won't work in my case because of the mutex. Even if I release the mutex before starting the second instace it won't work because shutdown takes some time and two instance cannot run in parallel (because of common resources and other effects). Is there a way to restart an application with such characteristics? (If possible without an additional executable) Thanks in advance.

    I'm really new to Facebook application development, and I'm quite confused about application permissions and why the php sdk is so limiting and has so few precoded functions. First off, how do I check if a user has set proper permissions for my application, and if not, display that standard dialog immediately instead of using FBML and making them click the link? Secondly, how do I publish to a user's stream with the php apis? Finally, are there any good tutorial sites for making a php based canvas application that use the latest versions of all the sdks? Thank you for your help! I really don't see why so much of this is Javascript, it would really make much more sense to me to have things like: if(!$facebook->appHasPerm('publish_stream'){$facebook->showPermDialog('publish_stream');} I'd feel like I have much more control over the application if it worked like that.

Köztudott, hogy az SAP csak a Release 2-re ad ki támogatást, így ez most egy igazán örömteli hír az SAP felhasználóknak, hiszen az alábbi 11g R2 újdonságokat tudják alkalmazni SAP környezetben: • Advanced Compression opció (táblára, RMAN mentésre, expdp-re, Data Guard hálózatra) • Real Application Testing • Oracle Database 11g Release 2 Database Vault • Oracle Database 11g Release 2 RAC • Advanced Encryption táblaterekre, RMAN mentésekre, expdp-re, Data Guard hálózatra • Direct NFS • Deferred Segments • Online Patching Azaz például tömöríthetové válik az SAP adatbázisa, vagy az abból készített mentések. Az eddigi tapasztalatok szerint a tömörítés aránya adatbázistól függoen 2-4-szeres. Az adatbázis upgrade és minden egyéb adatbázis infrastruktúrát érinto változatatás kockázata jelentosen csökkentheto lesz a Real Application Testing alkalmazásával. A rendszergazdai szerepkörök szeparaláhatóvá válnak a Database Vault felhasználásával. A Real Application Clusters 11g R2 újdonságai is elérheto lesznek. Ez azért hasznos, mert általában alkalmazások telepítésekor létrejön minden tábla, azonban sok táblába nem kerül adat. Ezáltal mind a telepítés ideje, mind az adatbázis mérete csökkentheto. Az Online Patching pedig lehetové teszi a leállításmentes patch telepítést. Hát azt gondolom ezek vonzó lehetoségek, érdemes betervezni a közeljövobe az SAP rendszerek alatti adatbázis frissítését, hiszen a 10g verzió Premier Support idén nyáron lejár. Az upgrade-hez pedig mindenképp javaslom a Real Application Testing használatát, amivel az éles terhelés mellett teszthelheto teszt környezetben az upgrade. A Sun Oracle Database Machine és az Exadata sajnos még nem támogatott SAP alatt, mivel az ASM certifikáció még nem zárult le. A hírek szerint 2011 elejére várható, hogy ez megtörténik.

  • IIS 7 Using Domain Account for Application pool identity Invalid Password

    I have an asp.net website containing a WCF service that I am developing on a Windows 7 machine hosted with IIS 7. I am needing to connect to an instance of Reporting Services 2005 with the service, and have been getting 401 errors when trying to execute reports. So, I assume that I need to be running the IIS Application pool under a domain account. The problem is that when I try to change the identity to a domain account, I get the error message "The specified password is invalid. Type a new password." I've rechecked the password multiple times to make sure it is correct. The account I'm using has admin rights on the machine. I saw elsewhere to try running this command: aspnet_regiis.exe -GA domain\username which I did but it didn't help. What else do I need to do?

    I am looking for daily calendar-like apps, but ones that have some text editor attached for every day. All I want to do is that when I open that page, it should open the text editor for that day and I could enter some data of what I have accomplished, then save it. The next day I'd like it so when I open the application, then I can go to new page, but I have all of the previous day's data to have a look at what I have done. Something like Google calendar, but I need an associated text editor to paste some notes, stuff, etc. on a daily basis with logs.

    On my laptop doesn't work any camera. I get error: "Camera being used by another application"". I don`t known which program using it. I tried use software like "SplitCam" or "ManyCam". Also I reinstalled K-lite codec to newest, but still getting this error. I get the same error when I turn my Canon video camera to laptop using firewire cable.     Hi have a web application that can store lots and lots of files on the server. i.e. users upload data to it. The files are stored below a particular storage path. The web host will be an IBM xseries 345. However, the disks are really expensive so we would like to put the files onto a less expensive server. Now here is the question. Should I use an NFS mount on the IBM server of a path on the storage server? Or should I write some scripts to upload the files to the storage server instead. Both the storage server and the web host are on the same network. Only the web server is visible to the world. Is NFS performance suitable for an expected low to moderately loaded server?

  • PHP + IIS Application Pool Identity Windows\Temp permissions

    I am currently running PHP (5.3) on IIS 7.5 on a Win2k8 R2 Web Edition Server and would like to know what, if any, problems or security vulnerabilities I may introduct into a system by assigning Read, Write, Modify & Execute permissions to either IUSR account or the IIS_USERS group for %SystemRoot%\Temp? Should I be altering permissions to that folder at all (as Windows reminds me I probably shouldn't when i attempt to change them)? Should I create a temp folder somewhere else and set permissions accordingly? The problem is when i set Anonymous Authentication (I'm guessing is a more secure option???) to use the App Pool identity, when starting sessions PHP gets stuck in a loop because it's unable to create session files in the %SystemRoot%\Temp folder due to lack of permission on the application pool user or IIS_USERS group. Another problem being ImageMagick (PHP Extension) is being denied access to %SystemRoot%\Temp to write temporary files so is throwing exceptions. I have tried searching Google however have not found anything that touches upon this subject specifically. Any help greatly appreciated.

Background load is low prio (SCHED_IDLEPRIO, idle ionice), but uses a lot of memory (more than is physically available) and does a lot of IO and calculations. Latencytop shows about 1500ms for: Following symlink Writing buffer to disk (sync) Page fault Writing a page to disk both for the bg load and for unrelated processes. Load average is 10 and counting. Why cannot it allocate, for example, 200MHZ of one of the cores and 32M of memory and not less than once per second opportunity for IO for mplayer to make it happy while continuing calculations on the background? Or: why it cannot leave background task and swap loving each other but keeping the rest of the system as if there were no background load? How to have RT processes AND heavy bg load simultaneously (without of virtual machines)?

    So IIS likes to shut down app pools that aren't in use. While this makes sense, I would like to have certain app pools conterminously running, but I don't want to just disable the automatic app pool restart as some of the settings (e.g., maximum memory limit) are good to have. I know that Microsoft announced the IIS Application Warmup module as an IIS 7.5 feature only then to do a Bait & Switch and pull it again so that they can put it in IIS 8 instead, so I wonder if something exists to run on IIS 7.5/Windows 2008 R2?
