  • Playing wave file ends immediatly (C++, Windows)

    - by TyBoer
    I've got a following situation. On a machine there is a Fritz ISDN card. There is a process that is responsible for playing a certain wave file on this device's wave out (ISDN connection is made at startup and made persistent). The scenario is easy, whenever needed the process calls waveOutWrite() on the previously opened wave device (everything initialized without any problems of course) and a callback function waits for MMWOMDONE msg to know that the playback has been finished. Since a few days however (nothing changed neither in the process nor the machine) the MMWOMDONE message comes immediately after calling waveOutWrite() even though the wave lasts a couple of seconds. Again no error is reported, it looks like the file was played but had zero length (which is not the case). I am also sure that waveOutReset() was not called by my process (it would also trigger sending the mentioned message). I already used to have some strange problems in the past that where solved simply by reinstalling TAPI drivers. This time for some reason it is problematic form me to perform that once again and am trying more analytical approach :). Any suggestions what might cause such a behavior? Maybe sth on the other end of the ISDN line?

  • Flash AS3: Loading bar not finished when movie starts playing

    - by flashey
    Hi, I'm using the same code I always use for preloading another swf but it's not working this time. The problem this time is that when the loading bar gets to 16% every time you can hear the movie I'm loading playing in the background. I can just add a stop to the first frame of the movie I'm loading ("trial_1.swf") but how do I tell it to go to the second frame once it has loaded? Any help is much appreciated! Here's my code: var myrequest:URLRequest=new URLRequest ("trial_1.swf"); var myloader:Loader = new Loader(); myloader.load(myrequest); myloader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, progresshandler); function progresshandler(myevent:ProgressEvent):void { var myprogress:Number=myevent.target.bytesLoaded/myevent.target.bytesTotal; bar_mc.scaleX=myprogress*1.5; myTextField_txt.text = Math.round(myprogress*100)+"%" } myloader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, finished); function finished(myevent:Event):void { addChild(myloader); removeChild(myTextField_txt) removeChild(bar_mc); removeChild(logo_mc); }

  • Flash CS4 [AS3]: Playing Card Deck Array

    - by Ben
    I am looking to make a card game in Flash CS4 using AS3 and I am stuck on the very first step. I have created graphics for a standard 52 card deck of playing cards and imported them into the library in Flash and then proceeded to convert them all to Movie Clips. I have also used the linkage to make them available in the code. The movie clips and the linkage are named in sequence, as in the Ace of Clubs would be C1, two of Diamonds is called D2, Jack of Spades is S11. (C = Clubs, D = Diamonds, S = Spades, H = Hearts and numbers 1 through 13 are the card values. 1 being Ace, 11 being Jack, 12 being Queen, 13 being King). As far as I know my next step would be to arrange the cards into an array. This is the part that I am having problems with. Can someone please point me in the right direction, what would be the best way to do this. Could you provide me with a bit of sample code as well? I have had a look at few tutorials online but they are all telling me different things, some are incomplete and the rest...well...they're just cr*ppy. Thanks in advance! Ben

  • Detect TCP connection close when playing Flash video

    - by JoJo
    On the Flash client side, how do I detect when the server purposely closes the TCP connection to its video stream? I'll need to take action when this occurs - maybe attempt to restart the video or display an error message. Currently, the connection closing and the connection being slow look the same to me. The NetStream object ushers a NetStream.Play.Stop event in both cases. When the connection is slow, it usually recovers by itself within seconds. I wish to only take action when the connection is closed, not when it is slow. Here's how my general setup looks like. It's the basic NetConnection-NetStream-Video setup. this.vidConnection = new NetConnection(); this.vidConnection.addEventListener(AsyncErrorEvent.ASYNC_ERROR, this.connectionAsyncError); this.vidConnection.addEventListener(IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, this.connectionIoError); this.vidConnection.addEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS, this.connectionNetStatus); this.vidConnection.connect(null); this.vidStream = new NetStream(this.vidConnection); this.vidStream.addEventListener(AsyncErrorEvent.ASYNC_ERROR, this.streamAsyncError); this.vidStream.addEventListener(IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, this.streamIoError); this.vidStream.addEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS, this.streamNetStatus); this.vid.attachNetStream(this.vidStream); None of the error events fire when the server closes the TCP or when the connection freezes up. Only the NetStream.Play.Stop event fires. Here's a trace of what happens from initially playing the video to the TCP connection closing. connection net status = NetConnection.Connect.Success playStream(http://192.168.0.44/flv/4d29104a9aefa) NetStream.Play.Start NetStream.Buffer.Flush NetStream.Buffer.Full NetStream.Buffer.Empty checkDimensions 0 0 onMetaData NetStream.Buffer.Full NetStream.Buffer.Flush checkDimensions 960 544 NetStream.Buffer.Empty NetStream.Buffer.Flush NetStream.Play.Stop

  • OpenAL not playing on Max OS X 10.6

    - by Grimless
    I've been working on getting a basic audio engine running on my Mac using OpenAL. It seems relatively straightforward after working with OpenGL for a while. However, despite the fact that I believe I have everything in place, my sound will not play. Here is the order of things I am doing: //Creating a new device ALCdevice* device = alcOpenDevice(NULL); //Create a new context with the device ALCcontext* context = alcCreateContext(device, NULL); //Make that context current alcMakeContextCurrent(context); //Do lots of loading stuff to bring in an AIFF... voodooAIFF = myAIFFLoader("name"); //Then use that data ALuint buf; alGenBuffers(1, &buf); //Check for errors, but none happen... //Bind buffer data. alBufferData(buf, voodooAIFF.format, voodooAIFF.data, voodooAIFF.sizeInBytes, voodooAIFF.frequency); //Check for errors, none here either... //Create Source ALuint src; alGenSources(1, &src); //Error check again, no errors. //Bind source to buffer alSourcei(src, AL_BUFFER, buf); //Set reference distance alSourcei(sourceID, AL_REFERENCE_DISTANCE, 1); //Set source attributes including gain and pitch to 1 (direction set to 0,0,0) //Check for errors, nothing... //Set up listener attributes. //Check for errors, no errors. //Begin playing. alSourcePlay(src); Observe silence... Any insight, what steps am I missing here?

  • How stop mp3 playing started with audioplayer

    - by bucche
    Hi, My application consists of a table view. row1, row2, row3.... When a cell is touched a different mp3 starts to play (row1.mp3, row2.mp3, row3.mp3....). it works! but i have a problem: i am not able to stop previous mp3, so if i touch a second cell i have 2 mp3s playing... if i touch a third cell i have 3 mp3s and so on... i want to stop mp3 that started before and play mp3 that is related to touched cell... during my tries, i created a variable to show some alerts if the player plays or not and when i am "inside the if" i used [myAudioPlayer stop].. i see the correct alert but mp3 doesn't stop. here is my code - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { NSArray *elementi = [[array objectAtIndex:indexPath.row] componentsSeparatedByString:@"|"]; NSURL *url = [NSURL fileURLWithPath:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@/%@.mp3", [[NSBundle mainBundle] resourcePath],[elementi objectAtIndex:1]]]; NSError *error; myAudioPlayer = [[AVAudioPlayer alloc] initWithContentsOfURL:url error:&error]; myAudioPlayer.numberOfLoops = -1; if (inEsecuzione == 0) { UIAlertView *alert = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:@"1" message:@"1" delegate:nil cancelButtonTitle:@"OK"otherButtonTitles:nil]; [alert show]; [alert release]; [myAudioPlayer play]; inEsecuzione = 1; } else { UIAlertView *alert = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:@"2" message:@"2" delegate:nil cancelButtonTitle:@"OK"otherButtonTitles:nil]; [alert show]; [alert release]; [myAudioPlayer stop]; inEsecuzione = 0; } } as i wrote before, i am not able to stop previous mp3

  • JavaScript audio not playing outside of jQuery function

    - by user1814016
    I know the question title doesn't make much sense, but I can't think of a better way to put it. I am a newbie to jQuery and I'm using this code to fade in a <div> and play a sound: $(document).ready(function(){ $('#speech').fadeIn('medium', function() { play('msg_appear'); var sptx = $('<p class="stext">').text('There is nothing here.'); $('#speech').append(sptx); $('.stext').typeOut({marker: '', delay: 22}); }); }); This code runs fine however the sound plays after the fade-in is complete. I wanted it to play while it was fading in, so I tried placing the play() call outside of the fade-in function like this: $(document).ready(function(){ play('msg_appear'); $('#speech').fadeIn('medium', function() { However, now it's not playing at all. There's no errors on the JavaScript console so I'm unsure if it's a syntax error, and probably something obvious, but I don't know what. play() is a function I found to play audio, here it is if it matters at all. I placed it in the same file the above code is; right above the $(document).ready(). function play(sound) { if (window.HTMLAudioElement) { var snd = new Audio(''); if(snd.canPlayType('audio/ogg')) { snd = new Audio(sound + '.ogg'); } else if(snd.canPlayType('audio/mp3')) { snd = new Audio(sound + '.mp3'); } snd.play(); } else { alert('HTML5 Audio is not supported by your browser!'); } }

  • UnrealScript error: Importing defaults for actor: Changing Role in defaultproperties illegal, - what is it importing?

    - by user3079666
    I added the line var float Mass; to Actor and commented it out of the classes that inherit from actor and declare it, fixed all issues but I now get the error message: Error, Importing defaults for Actor: Changing Role in defaultproperties is illegal (was RemoteRole intended?) The thing is, I did not change anything related to Role or in defaultproperties. Also since it says Importing, I'm guessing it's some ini file.. any clues?

  • How can I continue playing music after hibernating my laptop?

    - by Olivier
    I have a laptop with ubuntu 12.04, I want to be able to play music with it while it is on hybernate mode, the problem is: when I close my laptop it goes to hybernate (I know this is a default and I know where to change this, but I can't change whether the system is playing music during hybernate or not) while I'm playing music, it stops the music as well (this sounds logical because hybernate mode is for saving power, but I'd like my computer to continue playing music). Is there a possibility of changing this? If not, can there be an update or something which creates a tiny option in the hybernate or the sound menu for this?

  • Playing an InputStream video in Blackberry JDE.

    - by Jenny
    I think I'm using InputStream incorrectly with a Blackberry 9000 simulator: I found some sample code, http://www.blackberry.com/knowledgecenterpublic/livelink.exe/fetch/2000/348583/800332/1089414/How%5FTo%5F-%5FPlay%5Fvideo%5Fwithin%5Fa%5FBlackBerry%5Fsmartphone%5Fapplication.html?nodeid=1383173&vernum=0 that lets you play video from within a Blackberry App. The code claims it can handle HTTP, but it's taken some fandangling to get it to actually approach doing so: http://pastie.org/609491 Specifically, I'm doing: StreamConnection s = null; s = (StreamConnection)Connector.open("http://10.252.9.15/eggs.3gp"); HttpConnection c = (HttpConnection)s; InputStream i = c.openInputStream(); System.out.println("~~~~~I have a connection?~~~~~~" + c); System.out.println("~~~~~I have a URL?~~~~" + c.getURL()); System.out.println("~~~~~I have a type?~~~~" + c.getType()); System.out.println("~~~~~I have a status?~~~~~~" + c.getResponseCode()); System.out.println("~~~~~I have a stream?~~~~~~" + i); player = Manager.createPlayer(i, c.getType()); I've found that this is the only way I can get an InputStream from an HTTPConnection without causing a: "JUM Error 104: Uncaught NullPointer Exception". (That is, the casting as a StreamConnection, and THEN as an HttpConnection stops it from crashing). However, I'm still not streaming video. Before, a stream wasn't able to be created (it would crash with the null pointer exception). Now, a stream is being made, the debugger claims it's begining to stream video from it...and nothing happens. No video plays. The app doesn't freeze, or crash or anything. I can 'pause' and 'play' freely, and get appropriate debug messages for both. But no video shows up. If I'm playing a video stored locally on the blackberry, everything is fine (it actually plays the video), so I know the Player itself is working fine, I"m just wondering if maybe I have something wrong with my stream? The API says the player can take in an InputStream. Is there a specific kind it needs? How can I query my inputstream to know if it's valid? It existing is further than I've gotten before. -Jenny Edit: I'm on a Blackberry Bold simulator (9000). I've heard that some versions of phones do NOT stream video via HTTP, however, the Bold does. I have yet to see examples of this though. When I go to the internet and point at a blackberry playable video, it attempts to stream, and then asks me to physically download the file (and then plays fine once I download). Edit: Also, I have a physical blackberry Bold, as well, but it can't stream either (I've gone to m.youtube.com, only to get a server/content not found error). Is there something special I need to do to stream RTSP content?

  • Android: MediaPlayer gapless or seamless Video Playing

    - by John Wang
    I can play the videos fine back to back by implementing the OnCompletionListener to set the data source to a different file. No problems there. I call reset() and prepare() just fine. What I haven't been able to figure out, is how to get rid of the 1-2 second gap screen flicker between the data source change and the new video starting. The gap shows a black screen, and I haven't found any way to get around it. I've tried setting the background of the parent view to an image, but it manages to bypass that. Even if the SurfaceView is transparent (which it is by default.) I've also tried to have the multiple video files played at the same time, and switching mediaplayer's display when one ends and the other is supposed to start. The last thing I tried, was to have a second view in the background that I show temporarily while the video is "preparing" and removing it when the video is ready to start. That also wasn't very seamless. Is there any way to get rid of that gap. Running a video in a loop works wonderfully and does exactly what I want with the exception that it's looking through the same video instead of playing a different one that I pick. main.xml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <FrameLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:background="@drawable/background" android:layout_height="fill_parent"> <SurfaceView android:id="@+id/surface" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_gravity="center"> </SurfaceView> </FrameLayout> Player.java public class Player extends Activity implements OnCompletionListener, MediaPlayer.OnPreparedListener, SurfaceHolder.Callback { private MediaPlayer player; private SurfaceView surface; private SurfaceHolder holder; public void onCreate(Bundle b) { super.onCreate(b); setContentView(R.layout.main); surface = (SurfaceView)findViewById(R.id.surface); holder = surface.getHolder(); holder.addCallback(this); holder.setType(SurfaceHolder.SURFACE_TYPE_PUSH_BUFFERS); } public void onCompletion(MediaPlayer arg0) { File clip = new File(Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory(),"file2.mp4"); playVideo(clip.getAbsolutePath()); } public void onPrepared(MediaPlayer mediaplayer) { holder.setFixedSize(player.getVideoWidth(), player.getVideoHeight()); player.start(); } private void playVideo(String url) { try { File clip = new File(Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory(),"file1.mp4"); if (player == null) { player = new MediaPlayer(); player.setScreenOnWhilePlaying(true); } else { player.stop(); player.reset(); } player.setDataSource(url); player.setDisplay(holder); player.setOnPreparedListener(this); player.prepare(); player.setOnCompletionListener(this); } catch (Throwable t) { Log.e("ERROR", "Exception Error", t); } }

  • Flash video playing on top of everything else in IE7

    - by Brett
    Hi everyone, I've been spending hours now reading up on IE7's issue with rendering Flash content on top of other elements, particularly navigation menus (this is often a problem with dropdown menus and Flash ad banners, for example). I've tried a few of the suggested solutions but none have worked for me so far. I'll do my best to explain the circumstances, and would appreciate any advice in the matter! Update At Mercator's request, I am providing a large code-sample to assist in any advice you might have. Consider the HTML below: <body> <div id="page-wrap"> <div id="content-wrap"> <div id="main"> <h1>Page Title</h1> <p>Paragraph text before video.</p> <div class="video-container"> <script type="text/javascript"> AC_FL_RunContent('id','player','name','player','width','480','height','294','src','player','allowscriptaccess','always','allowfullscreen','true','flashvars','file=mp4/VIDEO_FILE.mp4','movie','player' ); //end AC code </script> <noscript> <object id="player" classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" name="player" width="480" height="294"> <param name="wmode" value="transparent" /> <param name="movie" value="player.swf" /> <param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /> <param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /> <param name="flashvars" value="file=mp4/VIDEO_FILE.mp4" /> <embed wmode="transparent" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" id="player2" name="player2" src="player.swf" width="480" height="294" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="file=mp4/VIDEO_FILE.mp4" ></embed> </object> </noscript> </div> <p>Paragraph after video.</p> </div><!-- end main --> <div id="subContent"> <p>Sub-content.</p> </div><!-- end subContent --> <div id="content-clear"></div> </div><!-- end content-wrap --> </div><!-- end page-wrap --> <div id="footpanel"> <ul id="mainpanel"> <li id="panel-link"><a href="#"><span class="icon"></span>Panel Link</a> <div class="subpanel"> <h3><span> &ndash; </span>Panel Link</h3> <ul> <li><p>Revealed content</p></li> </ul> </div> </li> </ul> </div> <!-- END footpanel --> </body> Below are the non-presentational CSS selectors that apply to the divs above: body { /*no positioning styles applied */ } #page-wrap { width: 100%; } #content-wrap { width: 960px; margin 0 auto; } #main { float: left; width: 573px; } .video-container { position: relative; width: 480px; z-index: 1; } #sub { float: left; width: 347px; } #content-clear { clear: both; } #foot-panel { position: fixed; width: 94%; bottom: 0; left: 0; z-index: 3000; } ul#main-panel { float: left; } The footpanel uses jQuery-powered flyout menus, if that provides any further context. These menus have z-indexes in the 300X range to appear above the footpanel. The Flash in question is JW player playing a flash video or mp4. Currently, the object and embed tags are inside a container div. My understanding of previous solutions was that the combination of the param changes and the positioning/z-index change on the container div should have resolved the issue. Alas, it is not so. The player resides on top of the footpanel. Other information that may or may not be helpful is that the page is XHTML 1.0 Transitional and that Dreamweaver reports 1 error in the HTML code: <embed> is not in the XHTML 1.0 specification. This fact does not prevent the video from being viewed in any browser tested, and the page still displays correctly in FF. Thanks in advance!

  • Communication Between Your PC and Azure VM via Windows Azure Connect

    - by Shaun
    With the new release of the Windows Azure platform there are a lot of new features available. In my previous post I introduced a little bit about one of them, the remote desktop access to azure virtual machine. Now I would like to talk about another cool stuff – Windows Azure Connect.   What’s Windows Azure Connect I would like to quote the definition of the Windows Azure Connect in MSDN With Windows Azure Connect, you can use a simple user interface to configure IP-sec protected connections between computers or virtual machines (VMs) in your organization’s network, and roles running in Windows Azure. IP-sec protects communications over Internet Protocol (IP) networks through the use of cryptographic security services. There’s an image available at the MSDN as well that I would like to forward here As we can see, using the Windows Azure Connect the Worker Role 1 and Web Role 1 are connected with the development machines and database servers which some of them are inside the organization some are not. With the Windows Azure Connect, the roles deployed on the cloud could consume the resource which located inside our Intranet or anywhere in the world. That means the roles can connect to the local database, access the local shared resource such as share files, folders and printers, etc.   Difference between Windows Azure Connect and AppFabric It seems that the Windows Azure Connect are duplicated with the Windows Azure AppFabric. Both of them are aiming to solve the problem on how to communication between the resource in the cloud and inside the local network. The table below lists the differences in my understanding. Category Windows Azure Connect Windows Azure AppFabric Purpose An IP-sec connection between the local machines and azure roles. An application service running on the cloud. Connectivity IP-sec, Domain-joint Net Tcp, Http, Https Components Windows Azure Connect Driver Service Bus, Access Control, Caching Usage Azure roles connect to local database server Azure roles use local shared files,  folders and printers, etc. Azure roles join the local AD. Expose the local service to Internet. Move the authorization process to the cloud. Integrate with existing identities such as Live ID, Google ID, etc. with existing local services. Utilize the distributed cache.   And also some scenarios on which of them should be used. Scenario Connect AppFabric I have a service deployed in the Intranet and I want the people can use it from the Internet.   Y I have a website deployed on Azure and need to use a database which deployed inside the company. And I don’t want to expose the database to the Internet. Y   I have a service deployed in the Intranet and is using AD authorization. I have a website deployed on Azure which needs to use this service. Y   I have a service deployed in the Intranet and some people on the Internet can use it but need to be authorized and authenticated.   Y I have a service in Intranet, and a website deployed on Azure. This service can be used from Internet and that website should be able to use it as well by AD authorization for more functionalities. Y Y   How to Enable Windows Azure Connect OK we talked a lot information about the Windows Azure Connect and differences with the Windows Azure AppFabric. Now let’s see how to enable and use the Windows Azure Connect. First of all, since this feature is in CTP stage we should apply before use it. On the Windows Azure Portal we can see our CTP features status under Home, Beta Program page. You can send the apply to join the Beta Programs to Microsoft in this page. After a few days the Microsoft will send an email to you (the email of your Live ID) when it’s available. In my case we can see that the Windows Azure Connect had been activated by Microsoft and then we can click the Connect button on top, or we can click the Virtual Network item from the left navigation bar.   The first thing we need, if it’s our first time to enter the Connect page, is to enable the Windows Azure Connect. After that we can see our Windows Azure Connect information in this page.   Add a Local Machine to Azure Connect As we explained below the Windows Azure Connect can make an IP-sec connection between the local machines and azure role instances. So that we firstly add a local machine into our Azure Connect. To do this we will click the Install Local Endpoint button on top and then the portal will give us an URL. Copy this URL to the machine we want to add and it will download the software to us. This software will be installed in the local machines which we want to join the Connect. After installed there will be a tray-icon appeared to indicate this machine had been joint our Connect. The local application will be refreshed to the Windows Azure Platform every 5 minutes but we can click the Refresh button to let it retrieve the latest status at once. Currently my local machine is ready for connect and we can see my machine in the Windows Azure Portal if we switched back to the portal and selected back Activated Endpoints node.   Add a Windows Azure Role to Azure Connect Let’s create a very simple azure project with a basic ASP.NET web role inside. To make it available on Windows Azure Connect we will open the azure project property of this role from the solution explorer in the Visual Studio, and select the Virtual Network tab, check the Activate Windows Azure Connect. The next step is to get the activation token from the Windows Azure Portal. In the same page there is a button named Get Activation Token. Click this button then the portal will display the token to me. We copied this token and pasted to the box in the Visual Studio tab. Then we deployed this application to azure. After completed the deployment we can see the role instance was listed in the Windows Azure Portal - Virtual Connect section.   Establish the Connect Group The final task is to create a connect group which contains the machines and role instances need to be connected each other. This can be done in the portal very easy. The machines and instances will NOT be connected until we created the group for them. The machines and instances can be used in one or more groups. In the Virtual Connect section click the Groups and Roles node from the left side navigation bar and clicked the Create Group button on top. This will bring up a dialog to us. What we need to do is to specify a group name, description; and then we need to select the local computers and azure role instances into this group. After the Azure Fabric updated the group setting we can see the groups and the endpoints in the page. And if we switch back to the local machine we can see that the tray-icon have been changed and the status turned connected. The Windows Azure Connect will update the group information every 5 minutes. If you find the status was still in Disconnected please right-click the tray-icon and select the Refresh menu to retrieve the latest group policy to make it connected.   Test the Azure Connect between the Local Machine and the Azure Role Instance Now our local machine and azure role instance had been connected. This means each of them can communication to others in IP level. For example we can open the SQL Server port so that our azure role can connect to it by using the machine name or the IP address. The Windows Azure Connect uses IPv6 to connect between the local machines and role instances. You can get the IP address from the Windows Azure Portal Virtual Network section when select an endpoint. I don’t want to take a full example for how to use the Connect but would like to have two very simple tests. The first one would be PING.   When a local machine and role instance are connected through the Windows Azure Connect we can PING any of them if we opened the ICMP protocol in the Filewall setting. To do this we need to run a command line before test. Open the command window on the local machine and the role instance, execute the command as following netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name="ICMPv6" dir=in action=allow enable=yes protocol=icmpv6 Thanks to Jason Chen, Patriek van Dorp, Anton Staykov and Steve Marx, they helped me to enable  the ICMPv6 setting. For the full discussion we made please visit here. You can use the Remote Desktop Access feature to logon the azure role instance. Please refer my previous blog post to get to know how to use the Remote Desktop Access in Windows Azure. Then we can PING the machine or the role instance by specifying its name. Below is the screen I PING my local machine from my azure instance. We can use the IPv6 address to PING each other as well. Like the image following I PING to my role instance from my local machine thought the IPv6 address.   Another example I would like to demonstrate here is folder sharing. I shared a folder in my local machine and then if we logged on the role instance we can see the folder content from the file explorer window.   Summary In this blog post I introduced about another new feature – Windows Azure Connect. With this feature our local resources and role instances (virtual machines) can be connected to each other. In this way we can make our azure application using our local stuff such as database servers, printers, etc. without expose them to Internet.   Hope this helps, Shaun All documents and related graphics, codes are provided "AS IS" without warranty of any kind. • Is there such thing like a "refactoring/maintainability group" role in software companies?

    - by dukeofgaming
    So, I work in a company that does embedded software development, other groups focus in the core development of different products' software and my department (which is in another geographical location) which is located at the factory has to deal with software development as well, but across all products, so that we can also fix things quicker when the lines go down due to software problems with the product. In other words, we are generalists while other groups specialize on each product. Thing is, it is kind of hard to get involved in core development when you are distributed geographically (well, I know it really isn't that hard, but there might be unintended cultural/political barriers when it comes to the discipline of collaborating remotely). So I figured that, since we are currently just putting fires out and somewhat being idle/sub-utilized (even though we are a new department, or maybe that is the reason), I thought that a good role for us could be detecting areas of opportunity of refactoring and rearchitecting code and all other implementations that might have to do with stewarding maintainability and modularity. Other groups aren't focused on this because they don't have the time and they have aggressive deadlines, which damage the quality of the code (eternal story of software projects) The thing is that I want my group/department to be recognized by management and other groups with this role officially, and I'm having trouble to come up with a good definition/identity of our group for this matter. So my question is: is this role something that already exists?, or am I the first one to make something like this up?

  • PHP Multiple User Login Form - Navigation to Different Pages Based on Login Credentials

    - by Zulu Irminger
    I am trying to create a login page that will send the user to a different index.php page based on their login credentials. For example, should a user with the "IT Technician" role log in, they will be sent to "index.php", and if a user with the "Student" role log in, they will be sent to the "student/index.php" page. I can't see what's wrong with my code, but it's not working... I'm getting the "wrong login credentials" message every time I press the login button. My code for the user login page is here: <?php session_start(); if (isset($_SESSION["manager"])) { header("location: http://www.zuluirminger.com/SchoolAdmin/index.php"); exit(); } ?> <?php if (isset($_POST["username"]) && isset($_POST["password"]) && isset($_POST["role"])) { $manager = preg_replace('#[^A-Za-z0-9]#i', '', $_POST["username"]); $password = preg_replace('#[^A-Za-z0-9]#i', '', $_POST["password"]); $role = preg_replace('#[^A-Za-z0-9]#i', '', $_POST["role"]); include "adminscripts/connect_to_mysql.php"; $sql = mysql_query("SELECT id FROM Users WHERE username='$manager' AND password='$password' AND role='$role' LIMIT 1"); $existCount = mysql_num_rows($sql); if (($existCount == 1) && ($role == 'IT Technician')) { while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($sql)) { $id = $row["id"]; } $_SESSION["id"] = $id; $_SESSION["manager"] = $manager; $_SESSION["password"] = $password; $_SESSION["role"] = $role; header("location: http://www.zuluirminger.com/SchoolAdmin/index.php"); } else { echo 'Your login details were incorrect. Please try again <a href="http://www.zuluirminger.com/SchoolAdmin/index.php">here</a>'; exit(); } } ?> <?php if (isset($_POST["username"]) && isset($_POST["password"]) && isset($_POST["role"])) { $manager = preg_replace('#[^A-Za-z0-9]#i', '', $_POST["username"]); $password = preg_replace('#[^A-Za-z0-9]#i', '', $_POST["password"]); $role = preg_replace('#[^A-Za-z0-9]#i', '', $_POST["role"]); include "adminscripts/connect_to_mysql.php"; $sql = mysql_query("SELECT id FROM Users WHERE username='$manager' AND password='$password' AND role='$role' LIMIT 1"); $existCount = mysql_num_rows($sql); if (($existCount == 1) && ($role == 'Student')) { while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($sql)) { $id = $row["id"]; } $_SESSION["id"] = $id; $_SESSION["manager"] = $manager; $_SESSION["password"] = $password; $_SESSION["role"] = $role; header("location: http://www.zuluirminger.com/SchoolAdmin/student/index.php"); } else { echo 'Your login details were incorrect. Please try again <a href="http://www.zuluirminger.com/SchoolAdmin/index.php">here</a>'; exit(); } } ?> And the form that the data is pulled from is shown here: <form id="LoginForm" name="LoginForm" method="post" action="http://www.zuluirminger.com/SchoolAdmin/user_login.php"> User Name:<br /> <input type="text" name="username" id="username" size="50" /><br /> <br /> Password:<br /> <input type="password" name="password" id="password" size="50" /><br /> <br /> Log in as: <select name="role" id="role"> <option value="">...</option> <option value="Head">Head</option> <option value="Deputy Head">Deputy Head</option> <option value="IT Technician">IT Technician</option> <option value="Pastoral Care">Pastoral Care</option> <option value="Bursar">Bursar</option> <option value="Secretary">Secretary</option> <option value="Housemaster">Housemaster</option> <option value="Teacher">Teacher</option> <option value="Tutor">Tutor</option> <option value="Sanatorium Staff">Sanatorium Staff</option> <option value="Kitchen Staff">Kitchen Staff</option> <option value="Parent">Parent</option> <option value="Student">Student</option> </select><br /> <br /> <input type="submit" name = "button" id="button" value="Log In" onclick="javascript:return validateLoginForm();" /> </h3> </form> Once logged in (and should the correct page be loaded, the validation code I have at the top of the script looks like this: <?php session_start(); if (!isset($_SESSION["manager"])) { header("location: http://www.zuluirminger.com/SchoolAdmin/user_login.php"); exit(); } $managerID = preg_replace('#[^0-9]#i', '', $_SESSION["id"]); $manager = preg_replace('#[^A-Za-z0-9]#i', '', $_SESSION["manager"]); $password = preg_replace('#[^A-Za-z0-9]#i', '', $_SESSION["password"]); $role = preg_replace('#[^A-Za-z0-9]#i', '', $_SESSION["role"]); include "adminscripts/connect_to_mysql.php"; $sql = mysql_query("SELECT id FROM Users WHERE username='$manager' AND password='$password' AND role='$role' LIMIT 1"); $existCount = mysql_num_rows($sql); if ($existCount == 0) { header("location: http://www.zuluirminger.com/SchoolAdmin/index.php"); exit(); } ?> Just so you're aware, the database table has the following fields: id, username, password and role. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Many thanks, Zulu

  • ASP.NET MVC Custom Role Provider/RolePrincipal

    - by Keith K
    My asp.net MVC application is not caching roles instead it round tripping to the database every request. Also when I attempted to view the cookie I noticed it had not been written to the browser. Web.config: <roleManager defaultProvider="CustomRole" enabled="true" cacheRolesInCookie="true" cookiePath="/" cookieName="CustomRole" maxCachedResults="25" cookieSlidingExpiration="true" cookieProtection="All" cookieRequireSSL="false" createPersistentCookie="false"> <providers> <clear/> <add name="CustomRole" type="Membership.CustomRole, Membership" connectionString="MemberDB" applicationName="/"/> </providers> </roleManager>

  • QtWebKit problems playing HTML5 video

    - by oskar
    I have a simple Qt application that launches a window with a QWebView. I tried several sites using the video tag with h.264, and it either can't play the video at all (as in youtube or sublime video), or it renders the video poorly, with black lines covering parts of it, like when viewing the video here. Is this a known issue with QtWebKit, or have I neglected to do something that would make it work better? My code is below. #include <QtGui/QApplication> #include <QWebView> int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { QApplication a(argc, argv); QWebView *view = new QWebView(); view->load(QUrl("http://webkit.org/blog/140/html5-media-support/")); view->show(); return a.exec(); }

  • Playing a .wav sound file in JPanel/JFrame using Java (Swing)

    - by JavaIceCream
    I need some code example on how I would use a filepath from a harddrive location to then play a .wav sound file when opened in swing GUI. I don't need it to show a play button, or pause or stop. I just want it to play when I select the 'Sound' option from my 'Files' in my window (I know how to do that already, no need to explain that). So basically, just how to play a .wav sound file from a filepath (i.e. c:/cake/thereisnone.wav) inside of a JFrame. And how can I easily apply methods to that sound file afterwards. Also, if anyone knows how to apply methods on a BufferedImage in a JFrame, that would be helpful too. Thank you very much everyone!
