  • How to setup ping between XP guest from Win8 Host using Hyper-V virtual swtich

    Hyper-V client is installed on a Win8 Pro 64 bit box and a VM running XP has been created within that with an internal virtual swtich. The VM can be booted and accessed and there is a default virtual NIC within it with dynamic IP of 169.254.x.x which i have changed to be a static IP of 192.168.0.12/255.255.255.0 confirmed via ipconfig on the XP guest. The Host has IP of 192.168.0.7/255.255.255.0. Both host and guest have their firewalls disabled for simplicity. I cant ping guest from host nor host from guest. TTL timeout. And with regard to Hyper-V and VMs I dont know what to do next. Both are in same workgroup (as per name) but since they cant ping I guess that means nothing. .... My objective is to share a folder on VM so I can install a 32bit accountancy app that wont run on Win8/7 so if there is a more simplistic way then Im all ears but typically a peer to peer is very simple.

  • Korean characters not appearing in Korean Windows XP computer

    I am using a Korean software (with a partial English interface) in a Korean Version of Windows XP SP 3 However, in parts of the software, even when I change the interface to Korean, Korean letters show up as random characters, as shown here: This is happening at others parts of the software as well, and I am not sure what is the difference between the places where this is happening, and places where this is not happening. For example, a command button where Korean letters are showing up properly is shown below: This software is a video conferencing software and has a chat feature as well. When I type into the chat box, i can see the Korean letters appear properly at my side, but when I press Enter and send the message, it changes into random characters as shown above in the chat box. What could be the issue here? Could it be a missing font in my computer? Since this is a Korean Windows installation I was hoping everything would work properly by default. What can be done here? EDIT 1: I asked some other people who are using this software, and they think that the problem is at my end, and playing around with the Regional and Language Settings might solve the problem. Also, they suggested I install all the language packs related to Korean display. But it looks like all the language packs have been installed, and my location is set to Korea in Regional and Language Settings in Control Panel, and I still have this problem. Also, I have had similar problems with displaying Korean on an English Windows XP computer. This answer suggested some solutions, but I still do not quite understand exactly what I have to do (at that time I had not fixed the problem, as I later on changed the computer). If I follow that answer, what fonts exactly do I need to install?

    Short of getting a Mac and using iMovie, what are the alternatives that you'll recommend to a non-profit organization that needs to produce simple (but polished) videos to showcase their community service activities to raise funds. Currently they are using Windows Movie Maker but have sort of outgrown it. I installed Jashaka for them, and understandably, they couldn't grok it at all. Their current system is powerful enough to handle most video editing tasks.

  • assign characters to key combinations in XP or Visual Studio .Net

    I'm running Mac OSX on a MacBookPro (UK keyboard). I run windows XP under parallels in a VM. I run Visual Studio .Net 2003 and 2008 in XP in the VM when i need to. I have English United Kingdom and English United states keyboards setup in XP. (they switch sometimes for no apparent reason) There is no hash "#" key on my mac's keyboard. However, in OSX I can get a hash with an alt+3 key combination. But In Windows XP... I can not make a "#" character. I can go to the character map in windows and copy a hash.. switch into OSX and copy a hash.. search in code and copy a hash.. but I can not make a hash in XP using my keyboard without typing U+0023: ... which you can imagine is annoying. coding anything with hash symbols is becoming a choir. Anyone got any advice or key mapping tricks I can use to get hash characters working in XP using my mac UK keyboard?

  • Windows XP update not working

    I have a problem with XP updating. It hangs when I try to search for updates on the website. But the automatic updates still work. And it's running IE6, so I'm trying to update to IE8, hoping that will fix the problems with the website. But when installing IE8 it just hangs at Installing Internet Explorer 8 for Windows XP And if I try to install it manually, it hangs when installing the updates for IE8. However, Windows has expired and I'm getting the following message trying to log-in in SF: "This copy of windows must be activated with Microsoft before you can continue.     I reformatted a drive to NTFS (not quick) and installed Windows XP on it. Now it's trying to do the graphical portion of the setup, wanting me to click Accepts and Nexts... but I can't! The keyboard works to get to the BIOS and in the BIOS. I have reset the CMOS many times, tried fail-safe and optimized defaults, and even enabled USB Keyboard and mouse support (even though the I have no USB devices plugged in).

I believe that if I see some statistics of my use of both input devices, I could reduce my use of mouse clicks.
