• Livevalidation: only validate when default value is changed

  Hello there! I am validating my html form with livevalidation and everything works great except for one feature. I have a input field with a default value age, I only want the livevalidation to validate when it says something other than "age". so maybe the user will type in 20 then the validation will fire checking its things but if left as "age" it won't check it all. But as of now, it just checks everything with a validation script and this is a problem for me as I have lots of fields in my form and some of them are optional so when I hit submit, the livevalidation checks the age field as well even if the user didnt touch it to begin with. Would this be possible with livevalidation ? Thanks for the help.

  In a code review I came across the following code that contains the following: # Python bug that renders the unicode identifier (0xEF 0xBB 0xBF) # as a character. # If untreated, it can prevent the page from validating or rendering # properly. bom = unicode( codecs.BOM_UTF8, "utf8" ) r = r.replace(bom, '') This is in a function that passes a string to Response object (Django or Flask).   Have a text field in the jsp which shows and takes input for ftp Url like below : ftp://ftplog:*****@10.203.291.177/abc/DS/Simulator/B11/B11/L2 The password field above is masked . Now when user tries the edit say ftp to sftp or File Path , He should re-type the password too , other wise What I will be getting in server is only "*" .   I am using ASP.NET MVC 3 and I am using FluentValidation to validate my view models. I am just a little concerned that I might not be on the correct track. As far as what I know, model validation should be done on the domain object. Now with MVC you might have multiple view models that are similar that needs validation. What happens if a property from a domain object occurs in more than one view model? Now you are validating the same property twice, and they might not even be in sync. So if I have a User domain object then I would like to do validation on this object. Now what happens if I have UserAViewModel and UserBViewModel, so now it is multiple validations that needs to be done. The scenario above is just an example, so please don't critise on it.

  I'm currently using this regex ^[A-Z0-9 _]*$ to accept letters, numbers, spaces and underscores. I need to modify it to require at least one number or letter somewhere in the string. Any help would be appreciated! This would be for validating usernames for my website. I'd actually like to support as many characters as I can, but just want to ensure that I prevent code injection and that characters will display fine for all users. So I'm definately open to regex validation suggestions that would support a wider set of characters.

  Can someone suggest some basic advice on dealing with web applications that interact with configuration files like httpd.conf, bind zone files, etc. I understand that it's bad practice, in fact very dangerous to allow arbitrary execution of code without fully validating it and so on. But say you are tasked to write a small app that allows one to add vhosts to an apache configuration. Do you have your code execute with full privileges, do you write future variables into a database and have a cron job (with full privileges) execute a script that pulls the vars from the database and throws them into a template config file, etc. Some thoughts & contributions on this issue would be appreciated. tl;dr - how can you securely write a web app to update/create entries in a config file like apache's httpd.conf, etc.

  Hi: I have a application which require login,but the number of user who use the application is no more than 40. And In the application,I get some data from the sql server database where I juse have read permission,also I can not create a table in the db for user validate. ALso I do not think it is a good idea to create a user table in other database on another machine.(for example,I can create a user table in the mysql another machine,but is it desireable just for user validating)? Now I just save the user info in a .properties file,any other good idea? BTW,the programe language used in my application is java.

• AJAX form sections - how to pass url of next stage of form

  Hi, I've got a multi-part form (in a PHP MVC setup) which I have working correctly without javascript enhancement. I'm starting to add the AJAX form handling code which will handle each stage of a form submission, validating/saving data etc, before using AJAX to load the next stage of the form. I'm wondering how best to pass the URL of the next stage to the current form being processed, so that my jQuery form handling code can process the current form, then load the next part via AJAX. The form "action" is different from what the url of the next stage of the form is - what do you think would be good practice here? I was thinking about either appending the url of the next stage to the form action url, via a query string - then just use javascript to extract this url when the form is successfully processed. The other option is via a hidden form element. Not sure what other client side options I have here Any thoughts?

• Dojo Select widget validation style

  Many dojo form widgets, like DateTextBox will style themselves in red (claro theme) with an "!" to indicate that the field isn't valid after focus. I can't seem to get this type of styling to work with the Select widget. I have the value set to required, but if the user leaves it in the default state, blank, then it remains unstyled. I tried to test this programmatically: wigs = dijit.findWidgets(node); for( i = 0; i < wigs.length; i++ ) { wigs[i].focus(); } This triggers validation on several other widgets and they are styled appropriately, but not he Select widgets. Anyone know how to make it obvious that those select widgets are not validating? Oh, and wigs[i].isValid() is definitely false for those select widgets.

  I am validating input on a form and attempting to prompt the user of improper input(s) based on the combination of controls used. For example, I have 2 combo boxes and 3 text boxes. The 2 combo boxes must always have a value other than the first (default) value, but one of three, or two of three, or all text boxes can be filled to make the form valid.   Im new to Smarty in combination with PHP and I really like it. Unfortunatly im running into a problem while validating fields after a $_POST has been done. I've made an array called $errors and use that to save error messages in, for example: $errors[] .= "Wrong email";. My problem is in sending the $errors array over to the template so I can use it to display the error messages. My question: How do you 'transfer' the $errors variable over to the template file so you can use it there with, for example {foreach}. • Referenced assembly won't load in new thread on IIS 7

  I have a process in which a user uploads a file to a web site where the file is then processed and uploaded into the database. The process of validating the file could take several minutes so as soon as the file is uploaded I create a new thread and I do my processing on this second thread. This works great on my local machine but doesn't work at all on my IIS 7 test server. After some investigating I found the problem is that the process is trying to load a reference to Castle and it can't find the DLL. I have a copy of Castle DLLs in my bin and it works elsewhere in my app. I ran Fuslog and discovered that it is trying to load castle from the wrong location. It is trying to load from c:/windows/system32/inetsrv/. It appears that under IIS 7 the second thread is executing in a different context or something. So the question is what can I do to get it to find Castle in the application BIN folder?

• I built my rails app with sqlite and without specifying any db field sizes, Is my app now foobared for production?

  I've been following a lot of good tutorials on building rails apps but I seem to be missing the whole specifying and validating db field sizes part. I love not needing to have to think about it when roughing out an app (I would have never done this with a PHP or ASP.net app). However, now that I'm ready to go to production, I think I might have done myself a disservice by not specifying field sizes as I went. My production db will be MySQL. What is the best practice here? Do I need to go through all of my migration files and specify sizes, update all the models with validation, and update all my form partial views with input max widths? or am I missing a critical step in my development process?

• Rspec > testing database views

  How can database views be tested in Rspec? Every scenario is wrapped in a transaction and the data does not look like it is being persisted to the database (MySQL in my case). My view returns with an empty result set because none of the records are being persisted in the transaction. I am validating that the records are not being stored by setting a debug point in my spec and checking my data with a database client while the spec is being debugged. The only way I can think to have my view work would be if I could commit the transaction before the end of the scenario and then clear the database after the scenario is complete. Does anyone know how to accomplish this or is there a better way? Thanks

• Data validation between SQL replicated tables

  Hi All, I am trying to figure out a way to validate the data in my publisher and subscriber in SQL 2005 replication. I thought of using sp_publication_validation, but it needs db_owner permission and we are not allowed to have it in our company. So I did bit more reading and found out about two other SPs that I think work for me. First one is sp_article_validation, which I plan to run on the publisher. For each article that I call this SP, its gonna give the row count and a checksum. With that info, I intend to call sp_table_validation on the subscriber, passing the row count and checksum from the previous SP, there by validating both tables. What do you guys think? Is this a proven way to validate data in replication? There is very little documentation on these SPs. • how to avoid storing several times a repeated field of a Symfony form?

  Hello everybody, I am working with Symfony 1.4 and Doctrine. I have a model A with an email field. The form of A displays an input in which the user should insert the email correctly. But as everybody knows, sometimes they don't do it. To fix this I have inserted an extra field in the model (and in the form), called *repeat_email* to prevent the misspellings. Then, in the validation process, after validating all the fields, i use a global validator to compare the data of the two fields. This works, but I don't want to have the email stored two times in the database (I don't want the *repeat_email*). Is there any mechanism to use it in the validation process, but not to store it in the database? Thanks,

  I have an input field in a form. Upon pushing submit, I want to validate to make sure the user entered non-latin characters only, so any foreign language characters, like Chinese among many others. Or at the very least test to make sure it does not contain any latin characters. Could I use a regular expression for this? What would be the best approach for this? I am validating in both javaScript and in PHP. What solutions can I use to check for foreign characters in the input field in both programming languages?
