  • ASP.NET: disabling authentication for a single aspx page (custom error page)?

    I am using a custom error page: <customErrors redirectMode="ResponseRedirect" mode="On" defaultRedirect="Error2.aspx"/> I want to disable authentication for the custom error page because the error being raised is related to an authentication module and I don't want to get into an infinite loop and I want to display a clean error page to the user. I have been trying the following configuration to do that. <location path="Error2.aspx"> <system.web> <authentication mode="None"/> <authorization> <allow users="?"/> <allow users="*"/> </authorization> </system.web> </location> I am getting a System.Configuration.ConfigurationErrorsException for the line that sets the authentication mode. It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level. This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS. I have verified that there are no other web.config files in subdirectories under the application's folder. The applications folder is configured as an application in IIS and the error page is at the application's root. File permissions set for the error page in IIS include anonymous and windows authentication (I have tried just anonymous as well).

Let say to make it simple I have javascript variable like this (now static but with my other code it is dynamic).   • When downloading a file using FileStream, why does page error message refers to aspx page name, not

    After building a filepath (path, below) in a string (I am aware of Path in System.IO, but am using someone else's code and do not have the opportunity to refactor it to use Path). I am using a FileStream to deliver the file to the user (see below): FileStream myStream = new FileStream(path, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read); long fileSize = myStream.Length; byte[] Buffer = new byte[(int)fileSize + 1]; myStream.Read(Buffer, 0, (int)myStream.Length); myStream.Close(); Response.ContentType = "application/csv"; Response.AddHeader("content-disposition", "attachment; filename=" + filename); Response.BinaryWrite(Buffer); Response.Flush(); Response.End(); I have seen from: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/736301/asp-net-how-to-stream-file-to-user reasons to avoid use of Response.End() and Response.Close(). I have also seen several articles about different ways to transmit files and have diagnosed and found a solution to the problem (https and http headers) with a colleague. However, the error message that was being displayed was not about access to the file at path, but the aspx file. Edit: Error message is: Internet Explorer cannot download MyPage.aspx from server.domain.tld Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later. (page name and address anonymised) Why is this? Is it due to the contents of the file coming from the HTTP response .Flush() method rather than a file being accessed at its address?

  • ASPX page renders differently when reached on intranet vs. internet?

    This is so odd to me.. I have IIS 5 running on XP and it's hosting a small ASP.Net app for our LAN that we can access by using the computer name, virtual directory, and page name (http://matt/smallapp/customers.aspx), but you can also hit that IIS server and page from the internet because I have a public IP that my firewall routes to the "Matt" computer (like http://213.202.3.88/smallapp/customers.aspx [just a made-up IP]). Don't worry, I have Windows domain authentication is in place to protect the app from anonymous users. So all the abovea parts works fine. But what's weird is that the Border of the divs on the page are rendered much thicker when you access the page from the intranet, versus the internet, (I'm using IE8) and also, some of the div layout (stretching and such) acts differently. Why would it render different in the same browser based on whether it was reached from the LAN vs. the internet? It does NOT do this in FireFox. So it must be just an IE8 thing. All the CSS for the divs is right in the HTML page, so I do not think it is a caching matter of a CSS file.     I'm working on a VB6 app that will do some very simple communication with a web server (passing value and getting back an anwer. Low bandwith and infrequent use). Someone suggested using WCF or Web Services. I'm wondering what the advantages are vs. just posting to an ASPX page like: Myserver.com/Functions.ASP?FunctionName=GetValue?UserName=BubbGump and returning some simple, easy to parse text, like one value per line.

  • Compressing ASPX pageview in code or compress HTTP in IIS?

    In the past, with pages with large viewstate I have overridden the PageStatePersister class so when the state is saved I compress it. On Load I decompress it. I have haven't really thought about it, but could IIS handle something like this better? The reason I did this was to keep my pages slimmer because I have a lot of custom controls on the page and the viewstate was huge. In my answer to his question (which is related to something else), I told him that I would discourage him from using such an approach, but without giving any real reasons. He is now wanting reasons why it is not a good idea, and I'm using this question to see if the community can come up with a compelling enough list of reasons for him to use another approach, such as one using a dbms, code-reuse, url-rewriting, MVC, and what not.

  • How to prevent certain workflows from showing in SharePoint's Workflow.aspx page for a list.

    I have a few workflows associated with a SharePoint list (e.g., Pages). Some are written as SharePoint WF workflows in Visual Studio, but some are no-code workflows created in SharePoint Designer. I programmatically start the WF workflows, but the no-code ones are started manually. When a user goes to "/_layouts/Workflow.aspx?ID=&List=&ShowStart=1" they will see all of the workflows. If I set ShowStart variable to 0 they will see none. If I don't allow the WF workflows to be started manually, then they don't seem to start programmatically correctly. Is there a way to allow the WF workflows to be started programmatically, but not manually? I also want the no-code workflows to be able to be started manually when ShowStart=1. Any ideas are welcome.

  • Visual Studio 2008 hangs while opening aspx/ascx file.

    Hi all! I've issue with VS08. I've got Web Application project (vb.net). Whenever I try to open an aspx or ascx (in Source view - just double clicking on Solution Explorer) the file opens, but VS hangs and is not responding. The only way to restart VS is then by killing it's process. And it happens all the time with these types of files. :/ Reinstall didn't work. In addition, the only plugin I've installed with this instance of VS is ClearCase source control plugin.

    I have an html page, which is a dynamically created asp/aspx page on http://host2.mydomain.com. I have no control over the html page. I cannot modify it in any such way. I cannot modify this page; so, setting document.domain is out of the question, unfortunately. I want to retrieve and display this page on http://host1.mydomain.com/page1.jsp using Ajax. FYI: host1 is being served by IIS 7 and Apache Tomcat (for JSP pages). And host2 is using IIS 7 and ASP. How can I retrieve this page using a Ajax POST request? Thank you.

    When I started localizing a website the first time, I just did the localization like this: <%= Resources.ResourceFile.ResourceName %> and it seems to work perfectly fine. However, the ReSharper 5.0 Beta does it like this: <asp:Localize Text="<%$ Resources: ResourceFile, ResourceName %>" runat="server"> Value </asp:Localize> Does it matter which way it gets done? If it doesn't matter, is there any way to make ReSharper do it the way I'm doing it? I kind of prefer it this way since it is less text in the aspx/ascx files.

      Introduction :            InProc Session is the widely used state management. Storing the session state Inproc is also the fastest method and is well-suited to small amounts of volatile data. Reading and writing current user Session is very easy. But some times we need to read all users session before taking a decision or sometimes we may need to check which users are currently active with the help of Session. But unfortunately there is no class in .Net Framework (i don't found myself) to read all user InProc Session Data. However one thing you will find when executing this code is that it will not show the current user Session which is set in the current request context because Session will be saved after all the Page Events.

    Hey all, As I'm working on a asp.net/c# project, I'm confronted with the foobar.aspx.designer.cs that auto generates it's content. eg, when I'm changing the code/designer, the designer.cs automatically updates it's content. As I'm bit of a control-dude, I'd like to maintain the code myself. I'm not happy with the overkill of comments I don't need. Like: /// <summary> /// Form1 control. /// </summary> /// <remarks> /// Auto-generated field. /// To modify move field declaration from designer file to code-behind file. /// </remarks> protected global::System.Web.UI.HtmlControls.HtmlForm Form1; While I'd like to see the following: protected global::System.Web.UI.HtmlControls.HtmlForm Form1; protected global::System.Web.UI.WebControls.Button Button3; etc, etc (don't mind the naming, ofcourse I'd give it some distinguishing nameing) How to fix this? I checked google on this one, but couldn't find an answer so quickly...

    Hi all, Let's say we have such site structure: App_LocalResources       |- A.aspx.resx       |- B.aspx.resx A.aspx B.aspx Now I use HttpContext.GetLocalResourceObject("~/A.aspx") in A.aspx.cs, and it works fine. But if I use HttpContext.GetLocalResourceObject("~/A.aspx") in B.aspx.cs, it throws an exception: The resource class for this page was not found. Please check if the resource file exists and try again. Exception Details: System.InvalidOperationException: The resource class for this page was not found. Please check if the resource file exists and try again. How can I resolve this problem? I want to read the local resources from an external page, and I don't want to read the .resx file myself.
