  • Recommended method for XML level loading in XNA

    - by David Saltares Márquez
    I want to use Blender as my level designer tool for an XNA game. Using an existing plugin, I can export my levels to DotScene format which is basically an xml file like this one: <scene formatVersion="1.0.0"> <nodes> <node name="scene-staircase.001"> <position x="10.500000" y="1.400000" z="-9.600000"/> <quaternion x="0.000000" y="0.000000" z="-0.000000" w="1.000000"/> <scale x="1.000000" y="1.000000" z="1.000000"/> <entity name="scene-staircase.001" meshFile="staircase.mesh"/> </node> <node name="Lamp.003"> <position x="11.024290" y="5.903862" z="9.658987"/> <quaternion x="-0.284166" y="0.726942" z="0.342034" w="0.523275"/> <scale x="1.000000" y="1.000000" z="1.000000"/> <light name="Spot.003" type="point"> <colourDiffuse r="0.400000" g="0.154618" b="0.145180"/> <colourSpecular r="0.400000" g="0.154618" b="0.145180"/> <lightAttenuation range="5000.0" constant="1.000000" linear="0.033333" quadratic="0.000000"/> </light> </node> ... </nodes> </scene> Using naming conventions I could easily parse the file and load the correspondent in game content. I am new to XNA and I have seen that there are several methods to load XML files into a game like serializing and deserializing. Which one would you recommend?

  • iPhone Server Mirror Functionality

    - by hecta
My app reads a from decentralized (so I have the ability to change servers if I have to) xml file with TBXML parser. The xml file consists of only a few lines like this <xml> <mirror url="http://www.someserverabc.com/data.xml" priority="1"/> <mirror url="http://www.someservermirror.com/data.xml" priority="2"/> <mirror url="http://www.anotherserver.com/data.xml/" priority="3"/> </xml> So I have the corresponding priority to the url. Now I want to check if server with priority 1 is reachable, and if not, try the 2nd one and so forth. If a server is reachable I'm parsing XML with the url from the mirror list How could I implement this approach and is it even a good approach or how can this be tweaked? (is XML even desirable in the first scenario)

  • Linq to Xml to Datagridview

    - by David Archer
Right, starting to go crazy here. I have the following code: var query = (from c in db.Descendants("Customer") select c.Elements()); dgvEditCusts.DataSource = query.ToList(); In this, db relates to an XDocument.Load call. How can I get the data into the DataGridView? Just thought I should mention: it returns a completely blank dgv

  • Parsing XML with the PHP XMLReader

    - by coffeecoder
Hi Guys, I am writing program that reads in some XML from the $_POST variable and then parses using the PHP XMLReader and the data extracted input into a database. I am using the XMLReader as the XML supplied will more than likely be too big to place into memory. However I am having some issues, my XML and basic code as are follows: '<?xml version="1.0"?> <data_root> <data> <info>value</info> </data> <action>value</action> </data_root>' $request = $_REQUEST['xml']; $reader = new XMLReader(); $reader->XML($request); while($reader->read()){ //processing code } $reader->close() My problem is that the code will work perfectly if the XML being passed does not have the <?xml version="1.0"?> line, but if i include it, and it will be included when the application goes into a live production environment, the $reader->read() code for the while loop does not work and the XML is not parsed within the while loop. Has anyone seen similar behaviour before or knows why this could be happening? Thanks in advance.

Similar to XPath: How to match attributes that contain a certain string but without using XPath. Is it possible? <c BarFoo="val1"> <d Foo="val2" someAttribute=""> <e FooBar="val3" /> </d> </c> Basically I want to select all the attribute values in the document that their attribute name contains "Foo", so it should return the values of "BarFoo", "FooBar", "Foo" (va1, val2, val3)

  • Handling element collisions on importing/including XML schemas

    - by eggyal
    Given schema definitions that define the same element differently, can one import/include both definitions and reference them independently from within a third schema definition? For example, given: <schema xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" targetNamespace="urn:example:namespace"> <element name="message" type="boolean"/> </schema> and: <schema xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" targetNamespace="urn:example:namespace"> <element name="message" type="date"/> </schema> Can one construct the following: <schema xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" targetNamespace="urn:example:namespace"> <complexType name="booleanMessageType"> <xs:sequence> <!-- reference to first definition here --> </xs:sequence> </complexType> <complexType name="dateMessageType"> <xs:sequence> <!-- reference to second definition here --> </xs:sequence> </complexType> </schema>

  • XML: what processing rules apply for values intertwined with tags?

    - by iCE-9
I've started working on a simple XML pull-parser, and as I've just defuzzed my mind on what's correct syntax in XML with regards to certain characters/sequences, ignorable whitespace and such (thank you, http://www.w3schools.com/xml/xml_elements.asp), I realized that I still don't know squat about what can be sketched up as the following case (which Validome finds well-formed very much; note that I only want to use xml files for data storage, no entities, DTD or Schemas needed): <bookstore> <book id="1"> <author>Kurt Vonnegut Jr.</author> <title>Slapstick</title> </book> We drop a pie here. <book id="2">Who cares anyway? <author>Stephen King</author> <title>The Green Mile</title> </book> And another one here. <book id="3"> <author>Next one</author> <title>This time with its own title</title> </book> </bookstore> "We drop a pie here." and "And another one here." are values of the 'bookstore' element. "Who cares anyway?" is a value related to the second 'book' element. How are these processed, if at all? Will "We drop a pie here." and "Another one here." be concatenated to form one value for the 'bookstore' element, or are they treated separately, stored somewhere, affecting the outcome of the parsing of the element they belong to, or...?

  • Linq to XML Read and output XML generated from lookup list

    - by Greg S
    I am trying to use XML created from a lookup list in SharePoint as a datasource for a treeview. It is in the form of : <NewDataSet> <test_data> <ID>1</ID> <Title>MenuItem_1</Title> <child_of /> </test_data> <test_data> <ID>2</ID> <Title>Subitem_1</Title> <Action>http://www.google.com</Action> <child_of>MenuItem_1</child_of> </test_data> <test_data> <ID>3</ID> <Title>Subitem_2</Title> <Action>http://www.google.com</Action> <child_of>MenuItem_1</child_of> </test_data> <test_data> <ID>4</ID> <Title>MenuItem_2</Title> <child_of /> </test_data> <test_data> <ID>5</ID> <Title>Subitem_2_1</Title> <Action>http://www.google.com</Action> <child_of>MenuItem_2</child_of> </test_data> <test_data> <ID>6</ID> <Title>Subitem_2_2</Title> <Action>http://www.google.com</Action> <child_of>MenuItem_2</child_of> </test_data> <test_data> <ID>7</ID> <Title>Subitem_2_2_1</Title> <Action>http://www.google.com</Action> <child_of>Subitem_2_2</child_of> </test_data> </NewDataSet> There may be N tiers, but the items relate to the parent via the <child_of> element. I can't seem to figure out how to write the LINQ in C# to nest the menu items properly. A friend recommended I post here. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Is an xml sitemap good or bad [closed]

The good: You provide search engines with all the urls in your site But, does the search engine search further than the provided urls in the xml site map? If you have a website with a forum does every post need to be in the sitemap? What if remove the sitemap afterwords, will the search engine need to start over?

  • What are the arguments against parsing the Cthulhu way?

    - by smarmy53
I have been assigned the task of implementing a Domain Specific Language for a tool that may become quite important for the company. The language is simple but not trivial, it already allows nested loops, string concatenation, etc. and it is practically sure that other constructs will be added as the project advances. I know by experience that writing a lexer/parser by hand -unless the grammar is trivial- is a time consuming and error prone process. So I was left with two options: a parser generator à la yacc or a combinator library like Parsec. The former was good as well but I picked the latter for various reasons, and implemented the solution in a functional language. The result is pretty spectacular to my eyes, the code is very concise, elegant and readable/fluent. I concede it may look a bit weird if you never programmed in anything other than java/c#, but then this would be true of anything not written in java/c#. At some point however, I've been literally attacked by a co-worker. After a quick glance at my screen he declared that the code is uncomprehensible and that I should not reinvent parsing but just use a stack and String.Split like everybody does. He made a lot of noise, and I could not convince him, partially because I've been taken by surprise and had no clear explanation, partially because his opinion was immutable (no pun intended). I even offered to explain him the language, but to no avail. I'm positive the discussion is going to re-surface in front of management, so I'm preparing some solid arguments. These are the first few reasons that come to my mind to avoid a String.Split-based solution: you need lot of ifs to handle special cases and things quickly spiral out of control lots of hardcoded array indexes makes maintenance painful extremely difficult to handle things like a function call as a method argument (ex. add( (add a, b), c) very difficult to provide meaningful error messages in case of syntax errors (very likely to happen) I'm all for simplicity, clarity and avoiding unnecessary smart-cryptic stuff, but I also believe it's a mistake to dumb down every part of the codebase so that even a burger flipper can understand it. It's the same argument I hear for not using interfaces, not adopting separation of concerns, copying-pasting code around, etc. A minimum of technical competence and willingness to learn is required to work on a software project after all. (I won't use this argument as it will probably sound offensive, and starting a war is not going to help anybody) What are your favorite arguments against parsing the Cthulhu way?* *of course if you can convince me he's right I'll be perfectly happy as well

  • Parsing mutiple xml files in android

    - by cppdev
Hi, I ma writing an application where I have to parse multiple xml files as a response from a server. Till now, I have written different xml parser classes for each xml depepending on the tags present in different xmls ? Can I combine all xml parser classes and write a single xml parser that handles all different tags in different xmls ? Will it work ? Will combining xml parser classes add an overhead because xml parser will check for every tag irrespective of whether that is part of file or not ? Please help.

  • What can we do to make XML processing faster?

    - by adpd
We work on an internal corporate system that has a web front-end as one of its interfaces. The front-end (Java + Tomcat + Apache) communicates to the back-end (proprietary system written in a COBOL-like language) through SOAP web services. As a result, we pass large XML files back and forth. We believe that this architecture has a significant impact on performance due to the large overhead of XML transportation and parsing. Unfortunately, we are stuck with this architecture. How can we make this XML set-up more efficient? Any tips or techniques are greatly appreciated.

  • Nmap XML parsing with Powershell

    - by Craig620
I am trying to parse the XML output from NMAP and isolate just the hostadddress and the vendor from the osmatch. I've actually done that with the following: select-xml -path nmap.xml -xpath "nmaprun/host/address/@addr|nmaprun/host/os/osmatch/osclass/@vendor" | select -expandproperty node Which produces: #text ----- 10.20.30.1 HP 10.20.30.2 Linux 10.20.30.3 HP What I was not expecting is that it would jam it all into a single column.Silly me would like the address in one column, and the vendor in another column. I Would like: #addr #vendor ----- ------- 10.20.30.1 HP 10.20.30.2 Linux 10.20.30.3 HP In the several hours I spent learning xpath today, I also realized that this file has a single address for each host, but multiple OS guesses for each host. I would also like to use only the first osGuess in the output. Tired using: -xpath "(nmaprun/host/os/osmatch/osclass/@vendor)[1]" But that truncates the whole data set to a single line of output, instead of only limiting the only the first osclass element of each host. Changing the parens to surround only the @vendor element like .../(@vendor)[1] and .../(@vendor[1]) but both fail with "Expression must evaluate to a node-set." Thanks in advance

  • writing a Simplest XML DeSerialization class for the simplest xml file. How to avoid the nesting? de

    - by Enggr
Hi, I want to deserialize an xml file which has to be just in this form <Basket> <Fruit>Apple</Fruit> <Fruit>Orange</Fruit> <Fruit>Grapes</Fruit> </Basket> Out of the examples I read on internet the least possible format I could find was the following <Basket> <FruitArray> <Fruit>Apple</Fruit> </FruitArray> <FruitArray> <Fruit>Orange</Fruit> </FruitArray> <FruitArray> <Fruit>Grapes</Fruit> </FruitArray> </Basket> and that has the following deserialization class for converting it into a class object. using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; namespace XMLSerialization_Basket { [System.Xml.Serialization.XmlRootAttribute("Basket", Namespace = "BasketNamespace", IsNullable = false)] public class Basket { /// <remarks/> [System.Xml.Serialization.XmlElementAttribute("FruitArray")] public FruitArray[] objFruitArray; } /// <remarks/> [System.Xml.Serialization.XmlTypeAttribute(Namespace = "BasketNamespace")] public class FruitArray { /// <remarks/> private string _Fruit; public string Fruit { get { return _Fruit; } set { _Fruit = value; } } } } Can I add something like the following directly under top class private string _Fruit; public string Fruit { get { return _Fruit; } set { _Fruit = value; } } and avoid the array nesting? my goal is to deserialize an xml of following format <Basket> <Fruit>Apple</Fruit> <Fruit>Orange</Fruit> <Fruit>Grapes</Fruit> </Basket>

  • Parsing secure entries XML file with jquery

    - by user573131
    Apologies if this is elementary. I'm primarily a front end designer/dev. I have webform through a form service called wufoo. Wufoo generates a lovely XML (or json) file that can be grabed and parsed. I'm trying to grab the entries xml feed that is associated with the form and parse it via jquery to show who has entered. Im using the following code (which works with a local xml file). http://bostonwebsitemakeover.com/2/test <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.3.2/jquery.js"></script> <script> $(document).ready(function () { $.ajax({ type: "GET", url: "people.xml", dataType: "xml", success: xmlParser }); }); function xmlParser(xml) { $('#load').fadeOut(); $(xml).find("Entry").each(function () { $(".main").append('<div class="entry">' + $(this).find("Field1").text() + ' ' + $(this).find("Field2").text() + ' http://twitter.com/' + $(this).find("Field17").text() + '</div>'); $(".entry").fadeIn(1000); }); } </script> My XML file contains the following: <?xml version="1.0"?> <Entries> <Entry> <EntryId>1</EntryId> <Field1>Meaghan</Field1> <Field2>Severson</Field2> <Field17/> </Entry> <Entry> <EntryId>2</EntryId> <Field1>Michael</Field1> <Field2>Flint</Field2> <Field17>michaelflint</Field17> </Entry> <Entry> <EntryId>3</EntryId> <Field1>Niki</Field1> <Field2>Brown</Field2> <Field17>nikibrown</Field17> </Entry> <Entry> <EntryId>4</EntryId> <Field1>Niki</Field1> <Field2>Brown</Field2> <Field17>nikibrown</Field17> </Entry> </Entries> I'm wondering how I would do this with the xml file hosted on the wufoo (which is https) So I guess Im asking how do I authenticate the feed via jquery? Or do i need to do this via json? Could someone explain how?
