• Setting AcceptButton to None still closes the form on ENTER.

  I have a MDI windows forms application and my child forms mostly have "OK" and "Cancel" buttons. However I do not want them to be activated with ENTER/ESC keys to prevent accidental saves/aborts. So, the form has both AcceptButton and CancelButton set to none. The ESC button indeed does nothing, but the ENTER button still closes the form by "clicking" on the first button found, sorted by TabOrder. Why is this so? Must I really start doing workarounds and catching the ENTER key?

• How can I update multiple columns with a Replace in SQL server?

  How do I update different columns and rows across a table? I want to do something similiar to replace a string in SQL server I want to do this but the value exists in multiple columns of the same type. The values are foreign keys varchars to an employee table. Each column represents a task, so the same employee may be assigned to several tasks in a record and those tasks will vary between records. How can I do this effectively? Basically something of a replace all accross varying columns throughout a table. Thanks for any help or advice. Cheers, ~ck in San Diego

• Cocoa NSStatusBar Global HotKey

  I have created an NSStatusBar cocoa application which sits in the system status bar. I want to assign a hotkey so that when pressed it toggles my applications and show the menu. Is this possible?, In my searching and experimenting I have found a few different ways of assigning global hot keys that can be pressed when your application is in the background but I can't find any way to problematically make the menu show. Is this possible?, If anyone thinks a way of assigning a global hotkey is best please post it. Thanks.   Hello guys! I hope there's someone who can help me suggest a suitable data model to be implemented using nosql database Apache Cassandra. More of than I need it to work under high loads and large amounts of data. Simplified I have 3 types of objects: Product Tag ProductTag Product: key - string key name - string .... - some other fields Tag: key - string key name - unique tag words ProductTag: product_key - foreign key referring to product tag_key - foreign key referring to tag rating - this is rating of tag for this product Each product may have 0 or many tags. Tag may be assigned to 1 or many products. Means relation between products and tags is many-to-many in terms of relational databases. Value of "rating" is updated "very" often. I need to be run the following queries Select objects by keys Select tags for product ordered by rating Select products by tag order by rating Update rating by product_key and tag_key The most important is to make these queries really fast on large amounts of data, considering that rating is constantly updated.

• What exactly happens when Complex Script Support is enabled?

  When we click the check box "Install files for complex script and right to left languages (including Thai)" in Regional and Language settings what exactly happens? Changes to registry keys? I noticed that it installs some .fon files and keyboard dlls. Is this totally necessary if one just wish to read complex script on Windows XP? My test inside VirutalBox as Windows 7 as the host OS seems to indicate that for reading Complex Script need not be enabled. Yet that's not what all the literature on the subject says. What's going on?

• ASP.Net Session data lost between pages

  Hi, i came across a weird behavior today w/ my web application. When I navigate from a page to another, I lose one particular session variable data. I'm able to launch the app in firefox and able to see that the session data is not lost. I use Response.Redirect(page2, false) to redirect to another page. • Can I have a shell alias evaluate a history substitution command?

  I'm trying to write an alias for cd !!:1, which takes the 2nd word of the previous command, and changes to the directory of that name. For instance, if I type rails new_project cd !!:1 the second line will cd into the "new_project" directory. Since !!:1 is awkward to type (even though it's short, it requires three SHIFTed keys, on opposite sides of of the keyboard, and then an unSHIFTed version of the key that was typed twice SHIFTed), I want to just type something like cd- but since the !!:1 is evaluated on the command line, I (OBVIOUSLY) can't just do alias cd-=!!:1 or I'd be saving an alias that contained "new_project" hard-coded into it. So I tried alias cd-='!!:1' The problem with this is that the !!:1 is NEVER evaluated, and I get a message that no directory named !!:1 exists. How can I make an alias where the history substitution is evaluated AT THE TIME I ISSUE THE ALIAS COMMAND, not when I define the alias, and not never? (I've tried this in both bash and zsh, and get the same results in both.)

For example: using namespace std; list<int> l; map<list<int>::const_iterator, int> t; int main(int argv, char * argc) { l.push_back(1); t[l.begin()] = 5; } However, list iterators do not have a comparison operator defined (in contrast to random access iterators), so compiling the above code results in an error: /usr/include/c++/4.2.1/bits/stl_function.h:227: error: no match for ‘operator<’ in ‘__x < __y’ If the list is changed to a vector, a map of vector const_iterators compiles fine. What is the appropriate way to define the operator < for list::const_iterator?

I can get the code to call the procedure, but how do I access the returned Custom Object to obtain it's contained values?. • How to make TWebBrowser ignore accelerator chars of others controls?

  I have a TWebBrowser placed on a form with the designMode enabled. Bellow the browser I have a close button with the Caption set to 'Clos&e'. When I am editing the contents of a document inside the WebBrowser and I press the key E the button close is called. It appears that it is treating TWebBrowser like other controls that don't handle keys and/or don't accept chars (e.g. TButton). How can I solve this? Thanks in advance.

• How to fix weird scrolling/alignment behavior when using keyboard in MenuStrip?

  I started noticing strange behavior when navigating the main toolbar of my Winforms application, and I don't know how to fix it. When I initially open the dropdown of the File menu, it looks like this: I begin to scroll down each item with the arrow keys, and everything is fine until I reach "Exit". As soon as I hit the down arrow key from "Log Off", or if I hit the up arrow key from "Open", the menu rearranges itself to look like this: I'm puzzled by this behavior. The menu still works, and from this point, if I start scrolling up, I can get the arrangement back to normal: A few observations: The menu still works. This doesn't happen when using the mouse. I have some code that toggles the Visible property of some of the menu items. I was able to modify what the arrangement was by playing around with this, but it was still messed up. Can anyone help me understand what is going on, and how to fix it?

• Why does localization with resx files fail with ZH (chinese) only?

  Howdy All, I've been tasked with localizing an English language ASP.NET MVC 2.0 website into 7 additional languages. I've added resource files to the Views Home App_LocalResources folder: Example: Index.resx, Index.es.resx, Index.fr.resx, Index.zh.resx, etc. I have set the CustomTool to PublicResXFileCodeGenerator (Access modifier is Public), Set file as an Embedded Resource, Set a Custom Tool Namespace. The keys ("Name") in all of the files are the same. For 7 languages this works perfectly. If I go into IE 8 settings and change the language to de,fr,it, etc., the page shows the appropriate translated strings. However, when I set the language in the Browser to any of the zh (Simplified Chinese) variants localization completely fails and the English strings are displayed. Is there something special about Simplified Chinese? Japanese and Korean work without problems. TIA, Trey Carroll

For example. I have a database that has orders and customers. An order has one and only one customer and a customer can have many orders. How can I setup external content types in such a way that when in the list view of these external content types, I can jump between and possible lookup values to that other type?

• How can I programmatically obtain the company info used to digitally sign an assembly in .NET?

  As a means of simple security, I was previously checking the digital signature of a downloaded update package for my program against its public key to ensure that it originated from me. However, as I'm using cheap code signing certs (Tucows), I am unable to renew an existing cert and therefore the keys change every time I need to renew. Therefore, a more reliable means would be to verify the organization information embedded in the signed assembly (which is displayed in the UAC dialog) against my well-known organization string, as this will continue to be the same. Does anyone know how to obtain this information from a digitally-signed assembly?

  When the user is entering a number into a text box, I would like them to be able to press Enter and simulate pressing an Update button elsewhere on the form. I have looked this up several places online, and this seems to be the code I want, but it's not working. When data has been put in the text box and Enter is pressed, all I get is a ding.   Hi, I am implementing a tag cloud system based on this recommendation. (However, I am not using foreign keys) I am allowing up to 25 tags. My question is, how can I handle editing on the items? I have this item adding/editing page: Title: Description: Tags: (example data) computer, book, web, design If someone edits an item details, do I need to delete all the tags from Item2Tag table first, then add the new elements? For instance, someone changed the data to this: Tags: (example data) computer, book, web, newspaper Do I need to delete all the tags from Item2Tag table, and then add these elements? It seems inefficient, but I could find a more efficient way. The other problem is with this way is, if someone edits description but does not change the tags box, I still need to delete all the elements from Item2Tag table and add the same element. I am not an experienced PHP coder, so could you suggest a better way to handle this? (pure PHP/MySQL solution is preferable) Thanks in advance,

  Hi, I am using PHP Crypt_RSA (http://pear.php.net/package/Crypt_RSA) for encrypting and decrypting the contents. Contents are of 1kb size. Following are the results: keylength = 1024 Encryption function takes time: 225 secs keylength = 2048 Encryption function takes time: 115 secs I need to reduce this execution time as most of the live apache servers have 120 sec limit for execution time. How to reduce this execution time? RSA alorithm docs says the only 1024 - 2048 keys are generated. I ACTUALLY tried to generate larger key, but it always results in execution timeout. How do i work on reducing encryption - decryption execution time? Thanks, Nila

  One particular problem I was having was using ${word_selection} in an Eclipse PDT template. I was recently trying to use some code templates with Eclipse PDT 2.1 to speed up some common tasks. We use a lot of getters/setters, so I wrote the following template. function get${word_selection}() { return $$this->getData('${word_selection}'); } function set${word_selection}($$${word_selection}) { $$this->setData('${word_selection}', $$${word_selection}); } I named the template "getset" and the only way I know to use the Code Assist is to type: "getset" then hit my code assist keys (I have it set to Esc, but I think the default was Ctrl+Space). The problem is, this doesn't actually let me select a word to be used by the ${word_selection}. how do I type in my template name, hit the key combo, and have a word selected all at the same time? I also want to know what kinds of templates people have set up and any other tips for using templates to speed of programming.

  How can I make an app or maybe service that looks like (Nexus One touch buttons) for the navigation keys (Home, menu,Back, Search) The buttons should always be visibly and always stay on top and send the command to the app thats running. Someone have ideas and sample codes how to do that? * I see an app with name (Smart Taskmanager) wich always detect when you touch the right side of the screen and then detect when you slide the finger to left. So I think its possible, with this function I think its possible to implementate the code to simulate the (Home, Meny, Back, Search) buttons. * I also see and test an app wich show a "cracked display" always ontop so that tecnic maybe shold be useful to always show the buttons/bitmanp on top. Thoose function, to show the button and catch the "touch event" and send the event to the active program, thats what i dont can figure out how to do. Thats my thought!   I am using ASP.NET MVC 2 and C# with Entity Framework 4.0 to code against a normalised SQL Server database. A part of my database structure contains a table of entries with foreign keys relating to sub-tables containing drivers, cars, engines, chassis etc. I am following the Nerd Dinner tutorial which sets up a repository for dinners which is fair enough. Do I do one for drivers, one for engines, one for cars and so on or do I do one big one for entries? Which is the best practise for this type of work? I am still new to this method of coding.

• Outlook 2003 Add-In Setup Project with COM DLL Deployment Problem

  Hi, I developed an Outlook 2003 add-in which uses the com dll redemption. I created a visual studio 2008 setup project, added a custom action to run "caspol.exe -machine -addgroup 1 -strong -hex [key] -noname -noversion FullTrust -n \"Name\" -description \"desc\" and moved the registry keys under software to HKLM as described in http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc136646.aspx#AutoDeployVSTOse_InstallingtheAddinforAllUsers to ensure all-users compatibility. I included the redemption.dll in the setup with vsdrfCOMSelfReg (vsdrfCOM throwed an error). My problem is: When installing the setup on a test machine under an admin account, it runs fine under all users, however when we use the company wide software deployment which runs under a system account the setup executes but the add-in wont load. If I repair the installation with an admin account again it loads just fine. Shouldn't a system account have the required permissions to install all of the components? What options do I have? • Polymorphism in SQL database tables?

  I currently have multiple tables in my database which consist of the same 'basic fields' like: name character varying(100), description text, url character varying(255) But I have multiple specializations of that basic table, which is for example that tv_series has the fields season, episode, airing, while the movies table has release_date, budget etc. Now at first this is not a problem, but I want to create a second table, called linkgroups with a Foreign Key to these specialized tables. That means I would somehow have to normalize it within itself. One way of solving this I have heard of is to normalize it with a key-value-pair-table, but I do not like that idea since it is kind of a 'database-within-a-database' scheme, I do not have a way to require certain keys/fields nor require a special type, and it would be a huge pain to fetch and order the data later. So I am looking for a way now to 'share' a Primary Key between multiple tables or even better: a way to normalize it by having a general table and multiple specialized tables.

• Cocoa Key Value Bindings: What are the explanations of the various options for Controller Key?

  When I bind a control to an NSArrayController using Interface Builder, there are a variety of options under the "Controller Key" field in the bindings inspector. I understand what "arrangedObjects" is, and I semi-understand what "selection" is, but I'd love to see a really nice explanation of all the options and when to use each one. The list includes: selectionIndexes, selectionIndex, selectedObject, sortDescriptors, etc. I haven't been able to find a good explanation of these options. I'm having trouble with a button that's bound to target selection, so I'm hoping a much deeper understanding of these Controller Keys might help me debug my issue. Thanks!!!

• Is it possible to "merge" the values of multiple records into a single field without using a stored

  A co-worker posed this question to me, and I told them, "No, you'll need to write a sproc for that". But I thought I'd give them a chance and put this out to the community. Essentially, they have a table with keys mapping to multiple values. For a report, they want to aggregate on the key and "mash" all of the values into a single field. Here's a visual: --- ------- Key Value --- ------- 1 A 1 B 1 C 2 X 2 Y The result would be as follows: --- ------- Key Value --- ------- 1 A,B,C 2 X,Y They need this in SQLServer 2005. Again, I think they need to write a stored procedure, but if anyone knows a magic out-of-the-box function that does this, I'd be impressed.

• Unable to specify abstract classes in TPH hierarchy in Entity Framework 4

  Hi I have a TPH heirachy along the lines of: A-B-C-D A-B-C-E A-F-G-H A-F-G-I I have A as Abstract, and all the other classes are concrete with a single discriminator column. This works fine, but I want C and G to be abstract also. If I do that, and remove their discriminators from the mapping, I get error 3034 'Two entities with different keys are mapped to the same row'. I cannot see how this statement can be correct, so I assume it's a bug in some way. Is it possible to do the above? Lee
