  • integrate / build 'weather radar' widget

    I'm looking to integrate a 'weather radar' widget into a site I'm building. The only available resource I can find is: http://www.meteoonline.co.uk/gadgets/Europe/Netherlands/135 which basically delivers a flash mov in a iframe ! urrrgh! - and 'permission denied' of course with any javascript interaction on the iframe.. Can anyone suggest an alternative resource / or approach ? I'm happy to work with the raw data if I can get it .. any ideas welcome ! site is like [ html5 + jquery on django ]

  • How to manually build mysql cache

    I have a table of over 150,000 rows of which most would be updated daily. I have mysql caching turned on so the pages load faster however everytime the database is updated the pages load slow again, which I assume is the cache building itself again. So at the moment I have resorted to doing a wget -m --delete-after http://localhost/ on the server however this takes about 4 hours to complete and moves something like 13 gig. Is there a better way to do this?

  • Python script to delete old SVN files lacks permission

    I'm trying to delete old SVN files from directory tree. shutil.rmtree and os.unlink raise WindowsErrors, because the script doesn't have permissions to delete them. How can I get around that?     I have a perl script (or any executable) E which will take a file foo.xml and write a file foo.txt. I use a Beowulf cluster to run E for a large number of XML files, but I'd like to write a simple job server script in shell (bash) which doesn't overwrite existing txt files. I'm currently doing something like #!/bin/sh PATTERN="[A-Z]*0[1-2][a-j]"; # this matches foo in all cases todo=`ls *.xml | grep $PATTERN`; isdone=`ls *.foo | grep $PATTERN`; whatsleft=todo - isdone; # what's the unix magic? #and then call the job server; jobserve E "$whatsleft"; and then I don't know how to get the difference between $todo and $isdone. I'd prefer using sort/uniq to something like a for loop with grep inside, but I'm not sure how to do it (pipes? temporary files?) As a bonus question, is there a way to do lookahead search in bash grep?

  • [Java6] Same source code, Eclipse build success but Maven (javac) fails

    Keep getting this error when compiling using Maven: type parameters of <X>X cannot be determined; no unique maximal instance exists for type variable X with upper bounds int,java.lang.Object Generics type interference cannot be applied to primitive types. But I thought since Java5, boxing/unboxing mechanism works seamlessly between primitive types and wrapper classes. In any case, the strange thing is Eclipse doesn't report any errors and happily compiles. I'm using JDK1.6.0_12. What could possibly be the problem here?

    Current code: head.ready(function() { console.log($('.thing a').val()); }); It will sometimes fail with error that $ is not ready. I have loaded jquuery earlier with the label 'jquery'. Neither of these work: head.ready(document, function() { console.log($('.thing a').val()); }); head.ready('jquery', function() { console.log($('.thing a').val()); }); I would like to not do this if possible: head.ready(document, function() { head.ready('jquery', function() { console.log($('.thing a').val()); }); }); And also avoid refactoring current code to place that snippet at bottom of body though that I think may be the solution. Is it possible with HeadJS to define a ready call() using head.ready(), that is not placed at the bottom, that will wait for both a labeled script and the DOM to be loaded? UPDATE: the nested script doesn't actually work. I think the inner one erases/superseds the other :(

    I am trying to deploy an executable and execute it on remote Unix machine(Linux/Solaris) from Linux without entering the password manually. I tried scp and also SSH key-gen utility to interact with remote server but in either way i couldn't avoid providing the password manually. Since I need to run this command/utility from Java code, I should completely avoid prompting for the password at run time. I have gone through many topics in google but nothing has been materialized.   • Receiving and processing SMS messages through a script?

    I am attempting to setup a system to receive and process SMS messages automatically. The system is intended for use in a context (an unfunded migrant workers' union in India) where both finances and sysadmin skills are extremely constrained (I would be the only person, in the near future, who would be administering the system). The intention is to make some functions - registration of members, generation of ID cards, communication of alerts and other information - easier. However, for receiving and sending SMS, I have not been able to find any email to SMS or other kind of gateway that functions in India. Perhaps there is one (edit: apparently Clickatell does have an India service, but the prices appear astronomical). If not, can one rely on a USB mobile modem (such as those provided by many mobile providers in India)? It seems like, with utilities such as gammu or bitpim, SMS operations on such a modem could be scripted. Is this actually feasible, though?   • Randomizing Div tags using Java Script

    I've looked around and have been able to find a piece of code that does the job but it doesn't work for all of my tags. I have a total of 8 Div tags that I want to randomize and this piece of code only allows me to randomize 7 of them. If I replace the 7 with an 8 it just shows everything in order. I don't work with Javascript very often and have hit a road block.   • Build OpenGL model in parallel?

    I have a program which draws some terrain and simulates water flowing over it (in a cheap and easy way). Updating the water was easy to parallelize using OpenMP, so I can do ~50 updates per second. The problem is that even with a small amounts of water, my draws per second are very very low (starts at 5 and drops to around 2 once there's a significant amount of water). It's not a problem with the video card because the terrain is more complicated and gets drawn so quickly that boost::timer tells me that I get infinity draws per second if I turn the water off. It may be related to memory bandwidth though (since I assume the model stays on the card and doesn't have to be transfered every time). What I'm concerned about is that on every draw, I'm calling glVertex3f() about a million times (max size is 450*600, 4 vertices each), and it's done entirely sequentially because Glut won't let me call anything in parallel. So.. is if there's some way of building the list in parallel and then passing it to OpenGL all at once? Or some other way of making it draw this faster? Am I using the wrong method (besides the obvious "use less vertices")?

  • How to build a database from an XSD schema and import XML data

    I have a complex XSD schema and hundreds of XML files conforming to the schema. How do I automate the creation of related SQL Server tables to store the XML data? I've considered creating C# classes from the XSD schema using the xsd.exe tool and letting something like Subsonic figure out how to make a shiny database out of it, but not sure if it's the best way to approach it. Has anyone managed to elegantly import XSD files into SQL Server?

  • C++: how to build my own utility library?

    I am starting to be proficient enough with C++ so that I can write my own C++ based scripts (to replace bash and PHP scripts I used to write before). I find that I am starting to have a very small collection of utility functions and sub-routines that I'd like to use in several, otherwise unrelated C++ scripts. I know I am not supposed to reinvent the wheel and that I could use external libraries for some of the utilities I'm creating for myself. However, it's fun to create my own utility functions, they are perfectly tailored to the job I have in mind, and it's for me a large part of the learning process. I'll see about using more polished external libraries when I am proficient enough to work on more serious, long term projects. So, the question is: how do I manage my personal utility library in a way that the functions can be easily included in my various scripts? I am using linux/Kubuntu, vim, g++, etc. and mostly coding CLI scripts. Don't assume too much in terms of experience! ;) Links to tutorials or places where relevant topics are properly documented are welcome.

  • How to dynamicly build up a gui

    Hi there, for the app i am creating i need a lot "option menus". E.g. for the sound file trimming part it would be something like "leadingSilence" / Integer "trailingSilence" / Integer "hold" / Integer. Overall, there are a lot of options of different types (int, float, string), and im thinking about if it is a better way to manualy create a window for each option set, or to dynamicly create them. last one would be quite easy if all types were similar (so i would just add eg spinButtons) I guess but its not. At this time i mange the options with the standard .properties of jave, and there is no need to change. My question is: is there a lib which provides such functionality, or is there a "standard way" to do this? How much work would it be? How to dynamicly create the selection listeners? In could i'd love to have something like: OptionWindow trimmingOptionWindow = createWindowFromOptionSet(OptionManager.getOptions("trimming") ); trimmingOptionWindow.open(); I hope its clear what I mean :)
