  • I have a bunch of divs floated left, lined up in columns with different heights. They dont create a

    Hey guys, I am trying to create a grid like system with div's with content floated left. The problem is that the height of each div is not static since the content is different in each one. Since the height is different.. things get outta whack if one is taller then another in one row. Is there some sort of css way or js (prefer javascript) way to get around this.   • git hooks - regenerate a file and add it to each commit ?

    I'd like to automatically generate a file and add it to a commit if it has changed. Is it possible, if so, what hooks should I use? Context: I'm programming a CSS library. It has several CSS files, and at the end I want to produce a compacted and minimized version. Right now my workflow is: Modify the css files x.css and y.css git add x.css y.css Execute minimize.sh which parses all the css files on my lib, minimizes them and produces a min.css file git add min.css git commit -m 'modified x and y doing foo and bar' I would like to have steps 3 and 4 done automatically via a git hook. Is that possible? I've never used git hooks before. After reading the man page, I think I need to use the @pre-commit@ hook. But can I invoke git add min.css, or will I break the internet?

    I just wonder where is this space between the end of the image and the end of the li's are coming from: http://bluesys.ch/lussy/ its just a simple UL li img code: div#slider { border: 5px solid #fff; } div#slider ul li { border-bottom: 1px solid pink; } div#slider ul li img { border-bottom: 1px solid green; margin: 0; } note that all margins and paddings are set to 0 by my reset.css can someone help me out? I colored the borders that you can see the spacing i speak of. I use firefox.

    I'm trying to use <canvas> in iPhone Safari, and if I place the element in the body, there are unused pixels to the left and top of the element. I tried specifying margin:0;padding:0 with CSS to no avail.   • Expand a relative positioned element to full container height

    Hi, I have a div directly under the body. My HTML looks like this: <body> <div class="parent"></div> </body> And the css I use is this: .parent { border:1px solid black; bottom:10px; position:relative; top:100px; width:500px; } This div doesnt stretch to the entire viewport/available body height. However, if I change the position to absolute, It does stretch. Is there a way to get a relative positioned element to stretch to its container element height. I tried height 100% as well and it works but it gives a vertical scrollbar to me as the element is positioned at 100px from TOP.

  • Test For CSS3 Radial Gradient Vendor Syntax

    I'm having an issue where I'm trying to update the background gradient of an element with JavaScript based on values I specify. I tried this route: elem.style.backgroundImage = '-webkit-gradient(radial, '+x+' '+y+', 0, '+x+' '+y+', 800, from(#ccc), to(#333)), -moz-radial-gradient('+x+'px '+y+'px, circle cover, #ccc 0, #333 100%)'; Since Webkit and Gecko have two different syntaxes for CSS3 gradients, I need to specify both. However, the above code doesn't work. It works if I only have just the Gecko syntax or just the Webkit syntax, not both. I think you can check for CSS gradient support, but my question is, is there a way to check which syntax needs to be used without browser sniffing? Keep in mind that I need to set my gradients this way since the x and y coordinates of the gradient change dynamically. Hope this makes sense, thanks.

  • artsexylightbox problem when using IE8

    I'm using the art sexy lightbox for my pictures presentation and also for html content in joomla. I'm using the Chrome and it works fine and displays everything as it should. The problem starts when i switch to ie8. When i click on the image to xpand in the lightbox the image displays in the center of the page while the thole frame of the picture is on the left of the image. I've tried playing with the artsexylightbox css file but couldnt get it to work in both browsers. does anyone can say why is the difference? I suspect that the browsers treat the absolute,relative orders differently. please help:(

  • Bottom of page gets cut off in Safari

    I can't figure out why this page: http://wohf.squarespace.com/newsletter/ gets cut off at the bottom in safari, seems to work fine in all other browsers (as far as I found so far)!! I am using some jquery and css for the sidebar and the content to match heights and for the canvas to run top to bottom with the footer always at the very bottom of the page. everything is working (as far as I can tell so far) on the rest of the site, the problem is only on this newsletter page and only in safari. Can anyone see the problem?

    This is as simple as I can get. I will have several spans randomly positioned on the screen through something like: $(".hidden:first").css('-webkit-transform','rotate('+((0.5-Math.random())*40)+'deg)'); $(".hidden:first").animate({ left: '+=' + (((screen.width-800-224)/2) + Math.random()*800), top: '+=' + (50+Math.random()*600) } [...] and later on I would like to iterate through every char of every of those elements (that are randomly position and have random rotation), and I would need to discover the (x,y) position of every character on the screen so I can colorize it, forming certain draws according to certain functions. When that window is triggered to open, it does not display properly, it positions itself inside the container and most of it is hidden.     I have a menu bar that is rotated slightly. Here are two buttons as an example: As a result, I can't use regular HTML to handle this. I need to use a <map> to put hyperlinks over the menu parts. (Or am I missing a killer CSS feature I don't know about?) I want to map drop-down menus to these buttons. This looks like a nice way to implement drop-down menus: http://javascript-array.com/scripts/simple_drop_down_menu/ However, this does not work on <map>s, I believe. Or am I wrong? Is there a different approach I can take to constructing drop-down menus for a menu bar that is not aligned horizontally?

    I have some Javascript/CSS issues with IE (no suprises?). So when I see the error in IE8, I go to Tools Developer Tools. Then I navigate to the correct DIV. I click on it, look around ... then I look again at my page, and the problem is fixed! This makes debugging pretty difficult... To see the display error, go to http://www.makemeheal.com/mmh/home.do in IE, and look at the "Your Recent History" module.

    OK for the past 10 days I have been trying to figure out where to begin learning website development a dynamic one, So far everyone told me you should start with computer science and I am like What the @#$% how am I suppose to learn computer science without going to school and get a degree but I don't want a degree I just want to learn how to devlope websites. So now I am here and confused about how to put together a website. I get HTML and CSS but still have some problems designing the site now on the other had I am having trouble trying to figure out how php and database mysql is used to put together a website. I have seen videos from lynda.com and still have no Idea after I have watched the video the basic one, one that teach you the Variables, Loops, Strings ext... ok than what happens, how do you build the website with it, that is the question I am real not understand the answer to.     How can i change the appearance (not the color) of a scrollbar within a box with overflow? I know how to do it in flash, I need a way to do it without it.   • Element Positioning affected by Browser Screen Resolution Change

    Hello, newbie developer here. There's this small problem I always encounter. Every time I try to change browser resolution (or what do you call the event when you scroll the mouse wheel while pressing ctrl), some elements (Mostly form elements) get to be shifted down or somewhere else, which does not conform with the original positioning. Im not sure if the problem is with the CSS or the markup itself and Im not really sure if this is much of a problem. Should I ignore it? (It doesn't feel very comfortable though, thinking that it might become problematic in the near future) Otherwise, any solution on how to avoid this? Simple explanations are very much appreciated, Thanks. (Perhaps the used term newbie should be replaced with noob?. Haha.)

  • IE6 image scaling with bicubic filter

    I have a project where I have to resize some images in the actual browser side. IE8, FF3 et al all apply a filter to smooth the resizing of the image, so in these browsers everything looks good. In IE7 I have applied the following fix which works great: -ms-interpolation-mode:bicubic; In IE6 however I can only find references to the AlphaImage Filter (the same one used to enable alpha transparency on PNG files). However I can't find an example of how to use it, nor have I been able to get it working myself. Can anyone provide me with an example? Preferably applied to actual img tags, though I could use background images if required.
