• Books about Windows Os Programming [closed]

  I'm trying to develop a desktop application which is similar to CCleaner. But I'm having problems with R&D resources... I can't find good books about Windows Operating System Programming Topic Examples; Explaining Windows 7 (or even 8) registry. Which registry entry turn on/off "showing desktop icons" Or, What is Windows registry defrag?, How can you defrag registry?, How can you optimize windows startup for( Windows 7 ) etc. I googled my questions, find msdn-some stackoverflow topics etc. But I can't find a book about low-level explaining current windows 7 operating system... What I'm missing ? Thanks for your any input... and sorry, I don't know is this the right place to ask that question, but I asked anyway...

• How to get familiar with "what happens underneath of Java"?

  I did not study CS nor IT. I just became a developer, now working with Java. Actually, since I now work with a big company writing high-scalable web applications, I think I need to be better with details. I have no understanding of what happens underneath of Java. Java Performance, Server-Side Java might be the buzz words?!! I am very poor with those more of low-level details but I do not know where to look honestly. I started looking for some keywords in Amazon, ended up reading books like "pragmatic programmer", "clean code", "code complete" which IMO they are not what I am looking for. Could you please give me some learning resources (books, articles, blog posts, online trainings) for this matter? I also read this post as well: Approaching Java/JVM internals But I think I need a pre-step before jumping into the OpenJDK, right?!

• Distorted text in programs

  I've installed Ubuntu 11 with gnome and in some point the text in the programs becomes unreadable like this. It's not only the text, but even the desktop background looks awful. I've tried to add section in xorg.conf, but it didn't helped out.   I know this question may not seem to fit the format of this site perfectly, but I think it's definitely the right place to ask it from the perspective of getting the information I'm looking for (and I'm sure many others are wanting to know). I would like to hear from some people who feel they've become adept at interviewing developers. What's the secret to making sure you hire someone whose work actually looks as good as their resume? Please try to keep your answers concise. I understand this question has multiple answers and that's why it doesn't fit the format of this site well. So at least refrain from offering your opinions. Just offer any advice you've actually tried and have found to work well for you. And no linking to other resources. Only looking for personal experience.

• Ubuntu 11.04 seem's like a laggy OS

  I'm new to Linux/Ubuntu in general. I just dual booted the Ubuntu 11.04 w/Windows 7 on my Lenovo laptop - Intel i7 Quad Core 2Ghz, 4Gb ram, etc. etc... and for some reason Ubuntu is very laggy and slow. When I'm switching between programs (Chromium, folders, software center, etc..) it doesn't run as smooth as windows 7 (I have no more than 3 programs/windows up at a time...). I don't think it's my system requirements bkz Linux OSs are known to use low system resources. Could be a bad install or do people find it slow and laggy in general or is it my PC mfg type?? I installed it using Wubi - should I do a reinstall? I've already done all the recommended updates..

• Implementing RAID 1 in Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop [closed]

  I found many resources on implementing RAID 1 using two disk drives. But, I am confused while implementing RAID 1 using 4 RAID disks. Can we use two disks for storage and two for mirroring using RAID 1? I couldn't find the way to create RAID disk using gparted tool in Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop version. Maybe, the desktop version doesn't support RAID. I am trying to implement RAID on the existing Ubuntu installation? I have added 4 X 2TB HDD in the system and I want RAID 1 to be implemented in these 4 drives with 2 drives for storage and 2 devices for mirroring. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! • Compiz using 40% CPU on Ubuntu 13.10

  After upgrading to 13.10, compiz process has started taking up to 40% of CPU resources. In addition, Unity is sluggish just like in this recent question Compiz at 30% of CPU on Thinkpad T420. My PC is HP Compaq NX6310 and Compiz version is 0.9.10.2. First I had error message during boot, but did find solution for that (Bug #1014289) by updating the kernel to newer 3.11.4, it did not change the CPU usage. For the CPU problem I tried solution for Bug #1221837 by adding the line MESA_GL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=1.4 in the file /etc/environment - that did not help me, so my problem seems not to be the same bug. Any suggestions on how to resolve this issue?

  I have a game engine that currently uses inheritance to provide a generic interface to do rendering: class renderable { public: void render(); }; Each class calls the gl_* functions itself, this makes the code hard to optimize and hard to implement something like setting the quality of rendering: class sphere : public renderable { public: void render() { glDrawElements(...); } }; I was thinking about implementing a system where I would create a Renderer class that would render my objects: class sphere { void render( renderer* r ) { r->renderme( *this ); } }; class renderer { renderme( sphere& sphere ) { // magically get render resources here // magically render a sphere here } }; My main problem is where should I store the VBOs and where should I Create them when using this method? Should I even use this approach or stick to the current one, perhaps something else? PS: I already asked this question on SO but got no proper answers.

• 11.04 Wireless is disabled by hardware switch Hp Compaq nc6220

  Here is some backstory if it is helpful: I had Windows Vista on my computer and I wanted to use wubi to install Ubuntu, everything was fine until I booted into the OS. It said my wireless was disabled by a Hardware Switch. So I booted back into Vista and it disabled there too. I have gotten rid of vista and installed 11.04 instead. It still has this error and as far as I know there is no switch anywhere and the fn keys do nothing.   We use WPF and Expression Blend 4. I'm trying to improve our workflow by tutoring one of our designers to use it for styling and animation. Slowly but surely I get the impression Blend in itself is to technical for the designer in question. I myself use it only occasionally (it's great for Visual States for instance) because a lot of things are easier done in code or not possible at all in Blend alone. It seems a developer with design experience is a lot more productive with it than a sole designer. Are there any good resources or advice as to how I can improve this workflow?

• Adobe Air apps on the Mac App Store?

  Before you chastise me for asking this, I have an Adobe Air app that has a lot of investment in it, and if there is a way to utilize the existing code-base in any way, it is worth considering. I have heard news reports in passing about Adobe creating some kind of tool to allow flash or air apps to be ported to native objective-c code, but the information found in google is mostly commentary on the one-time Apple blockade. My question(s) is/are this: Is it even possible, at any level, to use an existing Air app to create a Mac Store app? If possible, what are the resources I can use to accomplish this?

• What's the best route to getting started in moble app development?

  Some of my recent clients are asking for remote connections to the office server, for standalone work, etc, in winForm applications. Since the concept of the web is remote connection to a server both of data and resources, it should be possible to place both of this in cloud and have the winForm apps connect to it as if web Apps. As any one tested this, is working like this? Is it fast enough? Is it secure? What is the best cloud host for this type of work ?

• XNA 2D Rotated Rectangle Collision Response

  I am using Rotated Rectangles which collide using the Separating Axis Theorem and they work perfectly fine for collision detection using Intersects and Contains. However, I am starting to use faster objects in my game now and there is the issue of the two object overlapping during collision due to their higher velocities. I would like to do a collision response where I find out how much they are overlapping in the X and Y and put position them outside of each other. I would like to use something like this: http://go.colorize.net/xna/2d_collision_response_xna/index.html. But I am having some issues trying to adapt this to handle the rotation of the bounds. Is this possible? Are there any resources out there that I can look at?

• Flash/SWF Editor For Ubuntu 12.10

  First, thank you in advance for any help that you can give a recent transplant from Windows to Ubuntu. I have a question that I have been seeking the answer too but I draw a blank at every turn. I design websites, free of charge, for nonprofit organizations that are just starting and do not have the resources to hire a design firm. I am in need of a flash/swf editor and compiler. I had a program that I used with the awful previous O/S, however WINE would not run the program. Thank you in advance for any help that you can offer. Since I do not earn a dime for doing this, I would prefer if the program was open source, however any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
