• pywinauto: taking more than one app windows

  I have a GUI application which can create many similar windows on desktop. All windows have same title. I have to enumerate all dialogs with same title and make some tests against each of such dialogs. If I call: dialog = app['Window Name'] pywinauto returns a WindowSpecification object which is useful along with accessing controls by name. When I call: dialogs = app.windows_(title='Window Name') pywinauto returns me a list of HwndWrapper instances which are not so useful. How to obtain a list of windows with specified title but as WindowSpecification objects?

• Simple "Hello World!" console application crashes when run by windows TaskScheduler (1.0)

  I have a batch file which starts multiple instances of simple console application (Hello World!). I work on Windows server 2008 64-bit. I configure it to run in TaskScheduler, at startup, and whether user is logged-in or not. The later configuration means that the instances will run without GUI (i.e. - no window). When I run this task, some of the instances just fail, after consuming 100& CPU. Application event-log shows the following error: "Faulting module KERNEL32.dll, version 6.0.6002.18005, time stamp 0x49e0421d, exception code 0xc0000142, fault offset 0x00000000000b8fb8, process id 0x29bc, application start time 0x01cae17d94a61895." Running the batch file directly works just fine. It seems to me that the OS has a problem loading too many instances of the application when no window is displayed. However - I can’t figure out why... Any idea??

• I work on local copies of files and upload them to a remote server on save. What version control sys

  Here's my situation: My files are on a remote server (Linux). When I want to edit a file at home on my Windows machine, my editor (PSPad) downloads a copy. When I save the document, my editor uploads it to the server, overwriting the previous version. Is there a version control system, preferably GUI driven, that can handle this situation? Additional info: I probably can't install elaborate software on the remote server, but can on my own computer. Concurrent Versions System (CVS) is installed on the remote server. Uploading/downloading goes through an FTP-to-SFTP bridge set up with Bitvise Tunnelier.

• Cocoa Bindings in the face of a million of items in an NSArray

  I'm writing a GUI for MongoDB using Cocoa. It's going well, but I don't know how to make KVO properties that would be lazily loaded. How does one handle that? For instance, viewing the documents in a Mongo collection. The collection might have a million items in it. I suspect I shouldn't be downloading the full 2-5 GiB of data to my Cocoa app, then format and display 20 rows. How does one implement that? I called my project Mongo Explorer, available on GitHub. Specifically, how would I code MECollection#reload to be lazy? Do I need to implement a data source delegate for my NSTableView?

• For what programs are Objective C and Ruby ideal on the Mac?

  Hi, as a Mac outsider it seems that two popular programming languages on the Mac appear to be Objective C and Ruby. From what I understand the main API Cocoa seems to be written in and optimized for Objective C, but it is also possible to use Ruby for that. Are there different areas where each language is ideal, for example, I could imagine Objective C could be ideal for a GUI layer, or standalone desktop app, and Ruby could be good for web services etc. What about classic business logic, or data access layers? What language would be a good choice for a library of services for example? Can we write a library in one language and link to it from a main program written in the other language? If I wanted to write a layered enterprise application using domain driven design and dependency injection which languages could support each concerns? Are things like DDD and DI common amongst Mac devs? Just a curious outsider.

  I have int width, height; and IntPtr data; which comes from a unmanaged unsigned char* pointer and I would like to create a Bitmap to show the image data in a GUI. Please consider, that width must not be a multiple of 4, i do not have a "stride" and my image data is aligned as BGRA. • is XULRUNNER suitable as a replacement for other C++ desktop applications frameworks such as QT?

  XulRunner/Gecko seems to be really interesting for developing gui-intensive applications (by using widely used technologies such as HTML / CSS / SVG / XUL / Javascript). But the underlaying C++ APIS (XPCOM, NECKO, ...) looks so old and complex. Moreover the general lack of documentation/developper tools is really frightening. On the other hand, QT have a quite nice platform, and is well documented and supported. The UI part is really "traditional" though. What are your experiences with XULRUNNER, specially compared to other C++ desktop applications frameworks such as QT/GTK/MFC...? What is missing? What is awesome? Side question: If I wanted to migrate an existing MFC app to a cross platform C++ desktop application framework, would it be wise to use XULRUNNER instead of QT or GTK?

  I am trying to use Beyond Compare for Visual Diff in TortoiseHg. eg Right click on a modified file in explorer and select Visual Diff from TortoiseHg context menu... BeyondCompare opens but only shows the 'welcome' screen and not the file I want to diff. Am I missing something? • ClassNotFoundException when transfer data between service and activity

  Hello again, I am writing an application which is composed of an underlying service and a GUI controller. The service collects data and sends to the controller, I used Messenger and put an array of parcelable objects into the bundle of the message. But when it is received at the controller side, error occurs: android.os.BadParcelableException: ClassNotFoundException in unmarshalling MyData ... I am sure that MyData implements correctly Parcelable interface. It seems I have to do something with ClassLoader? or what else? Please help me. Thank you very much!

• C# .NET Controls for docked tool windows?

  I was using Qt with C++ to develop my GUI applications, but I have recently switched to try out C# .NET as it is much easier to do what I need to. I was wondering what controls I need to be using for a few things and if they exist for C# .NET or if I need to do something custom/special. If you look in that screenshot, I want to do something similar to how they have each tool window grouped into its own docking area with the option of closing it or breaking it out of the layout so it can be dragged. I am talking about the tool windows titled "Groups", "Resources", "Tools", etc. I also want to make these tool windows stay in the same place when the main window is resized. Qt has spring like widgets that will let you create a UI that keeps its shape when the window is resized. Does anything like this exist in C# .NET?

• How to open files in Java Swing without JFileChooser

  I'm using Java Swing (GUI) and I want to add a button to my project for opening files . I don't like the JFileChooser since it opens a small window for browsing through the files of the directories . Can I use something else , instead of the JFileChooser under Java Swing ? I've tried to use elements of SWT but it didn't work , meaning is the use of the button object and then use it inside the Jframe , but that failed , so I guess SWT and Swing don't mix together? • Ubuntu quickly (python/gtk) - how to monitor stdin?

  I'm starting to work with Ubuntu's "quickly" framework, which is python/gtk based. I want to write a gui wrapper for a textmode C state-machine that uses stdin/stdout. I'm new to gtk. I can see that the python print command will write to the terminal window, so I assume I could redirect that to my C program's stdin. But how can I get my quickly program to monitor stdin (i.e. watch for the C program's stdout responses)? I suppose I need some sort of polling loop, but I don't know if/where that is supported within the "quickly" framework. Or is redirection not the way to go - should I be looking at something like gobject.spawn_async?

The general idea is that we have 3 levels of security: a simple user - that can only access basic data that is in a data repository a manager - that can open up data repositories a superuser - that can open up repository factories. each repository contains various data types(text, images, etc etc). We are looking for authentication methods that will allow us: 1. Scalability. 2. Customization. 3. To create permissions that will effect the GUI + deny access to certain pages. 4. To create predefined roles - that will allow for easy setup of new users. 5. To create custom roles for specific users - allowing them permission sets that are different from the predefined roles. • What's Your favorite f# use? where does f# makes life (a lot) easier (compared to c#)?

  I've skimmed the stack and did not get the overflow as there is probably no such question. I'm just learning f# and I am A seasoned c# and .net dev. I am into financial apps and currently F# helps me a lot with maths calcs like zero finding or minimum finding (although I still want some good maths library there). I see that processing multiple items (files or smth) tends to be easier, but my GUI (web, win) are still c# based. I am in the team of 5 devs and we know that the new tool is out, we are learning it after hours (to pimp ourselves up) but maybe we shouldn't bash the door somebody already opened. So in business apps, whats Your first killer part of soft You would code in F# (if You could and would know IT would be easier, faster, more testable, easier to maintain etc.? Business rules? ImageProcessing? Data processing? hope it's not to subjective. luke

• Embeddable unit testing framework for mixed Windows app

  I want to test portions of a very complex app which includes both a major native Windows component and a substantial WPF GUI. Due to complexities I can't detail, it is impossible to run the native portion independently nor can I isolate the areas I want to test (spare me the lectures, we're talking a huge legacy code base and we do have refactoring plans). I'm looking for a unit test kit I can invoke on the native side but must be able to run with the app launched with the managed portion initialised. That seems to rule out the run executable feature of the cfix Windows unit test kit. I really like their philosophy, like WinUnit, of using DLL compilation as a way to add the reflective capabilities missing in C++ and gain a more NUnit-like experience. Ideally, I want something like WinUnit running within the application code and generating an HTML report. I'm trying to introduce more TDD and having things as lean as possible is important.

I have a Qt GUI application (written by me), let's call it QtAPP.exe When QtAPP.exe running, I will use a QThread and QProcess to execute some external file, such as player.exe (written in native C). Here's my question: In QtAPP.exe, there are 2 classes, 1. QMainWindow - Core of QtAPP.exe 2. QThread - A thread class to execute external things For now, if I got a finished() signal in that QThread, how do I to force the QMainWindow to repaint itself ? • How can I load an MP3 or similar music file for display and analysis in wxWidgets?

  I'm developing a GUI in wxPython which allows a user to generate sequences of colours for some toys I'm building. Part of the program needs to load an MP3 (and potentially other formats further down the line) and display it to the user. That should be sufficient to get started but later I'd like to add features like identifying beats and some crude frequency analysis. Is there any simple way of loading / understanding an MP3's contents to display a plot of its amplitudes to the screen using wxWidgets? I later intend to port to C++/wxWidgets for speed and to avoid having to distribute wxPython.

• Java application if/case recommendation

  I am writing an application for a Java course. I am a complete beginner and am just going off material I have learned from the course and from the web. The application is exhibiting some behavior and I am not sure what is causing it. The application is GUI based and does calculations on user input. For the action listener section, I have a set of If statements such as: "if this button do this if this button do this" All in a row like that. It seems as if the application is running ALL the if statements instead of running the one that corresponds with the button pressed. Would I be better off using a case/switch structure for this sort of thing? I can post my code if necessary, I am new around this site and am not sure if that thing is acceptable.
