• Why do I not see w3wp.exe processes from IIS6?

  I have two Windows 2003 x64 R2 IIS boxes that are ostensibly setup the same way. But for whatever reason, one of them has a W3WP.exe process for each application pool and the other one does not. What could be the reason?

  Hello everybody We're just setting up a brand new Server 2008 R2 with Remote Desktop services. Everything is installed fine so far, we have set it up with 5 CALs per User (not Machine!) and they are activated and running. The problem / question here is: Is it possible to log in with the same user multiple times? This worked perfectly fine in Windows Server 2003 We just want it to start a new session on the server with the same user. Has anyone of you got experience in that? Thanks!

• How to enable extended logging for classic asp on IIS7 on Windows 2008 R2

  I had to deploy an application that was not written by me onto the above configuration. It is a rather bizarre hybrid of asp.net and classic asp and it's the classic asp that is proving troublesome. The client is having problems with 500 Internal Server Errors appearing and I can see some of these in the logs but I only get the error code and the page name but little else. What I would like to see is the actual error message to at least give me an idea what is going on (or not going on, depending on your point of view) I don't want to display errors in the browser as I don't know the code well enough and this could (for all I know) display some crazy code where the db password is hard-coded into the site.

  Hey all i am trying to figure out why i can not access a index.php file from within the wwwroot/mollify/backend directory. It keeps coming up with this: Server Error 403 - Forbidden: Access is denied. You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied. I've given all the permissions (Full control) to the wwwroot directory i could think of (IUSR, Guest, GUESTS, IIS_IUSRS, Users, Administrators, NETWORK, NETWORK SERVICE, SYSTEM, CREATOR OWNER & Everyone). I also added index.php to the "Default Document" under my website settings in IIS 7 manager. What else am i missing? Thanks! David

  I have the following configuration Router : IP: 200.208.88.17 (Internet) MASK: 255.255.255.40 Server 2003 : IP: 10.0.0.1 (with dhcp server ativated) dhcp scope: 10.0.0.11 - 10.0.0.254 MASK: 255.255.255.0 clients : IP: 10.0.0.11 - 10.0.0.254 MASK: 255.255.255.0 At this point I have all computer set-up in one switch. All clients are receiving ip´s from the dhcp server. I need to enable the internet in every client. I am not sure how to route the traffic from the clients to the router that is providing internet access. Could you please point me to the right direction?

  I have installed MySql 5.5 server under windows 2008r2 x64 Apparently I can see that MySql service stops even if is configured to start automatically What can I do to find out why this is happening? MySql database is used as backend of ASP.Net web site Is it possible that web site was not active for a while and system stop mysql service? Update: It was mysql-5.5.7-rc-winx64. I could be an issue with this version (release candidate). Now I am trying to install mysql-5.5.8-winx64 And I have an issue with configuring MySql to work using name pipes I did uncheck use of TCP/IP protocol and configuration wizard just hangs Update: I have found workaround. It is required to configure MySql to use TCP/IP first, then reconfigure to use named pipes It looks like this link also has some information about the possible problems How should I diagnose ERROR 1045 during MySQL installation?

• Windows 2008 as home file server and more

  I currently have a freenas-unit as a NAS, and a Win2k8R2-unit as server. However I would like to consolidate these to units in one. What I really like about the freenas-unit is the ZFS filesystem. And the only reason I care about the ZFS filesystem is the easy way I can grow an existing filesystem just by inserting a new drive. How would this work in Win2k8? If I setup my unit with a separate drive as C: and a 1TB drive as D:. The D: would then be segmented into d:\Videos d:\Music d:\Pictures. When everything gets close to filling the storage-drive, I would like to expand the storage, but I wouldn't want to have E:\Videos or d:\Videos2 (using the NTFS folder mount thingy). I still want all my Videos to reside in D:\Videos and I want the OS to decide which drive it's going to be stored on... Some kind of on-the-fly jbod expansion :) Is this at all possible in Windows 2008?

• SQL Server 7 Transaction Logs Issues

  Over the week my database server transaction log was full. With our app people could select from the database but could not update or insert into the database. In the past we have just truncated the transaction logs. After that, everything was back to normal. This week I truncated the transaction logs, and shrink that database. Now we can select, update, and insert into the database. The only issue is when we do a big job, and to a lot on inserting or updating, we get the following error: Database error: S1008:[Microsft][ODBC]Operation canceled We never had this issue before, I am assuming the that is the same as a timeout error. Has anyone else had this issue before, or know how I resolve this?

• Server 2008 R2 Datacenter (and all other version) not detecting hardware

  I upgraded my ASUS KFN32-D SLI/SAS motherboard to the latest BIOS version and swapped out the 2 dual-core procs with 2 quad core procs. After installing Server 2008 Datacenter onto the system I noticed that it was not connected to the network. I open device manager and see no network adapters. I have to go up to View - Show hidden devices to even see the virtual WAN Miniport adapters. This problem happens in Vista and Windows 7 (all x64). What is even stranger is it all works in x86 mode. What in x64 could be causing windows to not even detect hardware that works in x86? Is the boot manager possibly the culprit?

  This probably is a very open ended question, but really I'm only looking for a specific aspect I suppose. It relates to a reboot question I posted earlier, relating to restart orders of servers, Server Restart's and Respective Orders. Please take a look if you get a second for input! Basically - in relation to how Exchange integrates with AD, what would happen in two scenarios: 1). The Exchange server is booted up before the DC is online 2). You replace a DC but keep your current Exchange server. I'm fairly new to all of this, so hopefully this isn't a silly question (I'm an apprentice in fact!). Many thanks

• MS 2008 R2 Drops Remote Desktop Sessions in 10 seconds or less every time

  I'm adding a new 64-bit server to our domain. Everything seems fine except when accessing the machine using remote desktop, after a few seconds the connection is lost. The error message is "This computer can't connect to the remote computer." "Try connecting again. If the problem continues, contact the owner of the remote computer or your network administrator." A similar result with Telnet on port 3389. I am able to connect but if I hit a key the connection to host lost. The event log shows the successful login. No errors. Any ideas?

• Windows update not working (2008 R2)

  long story short, one of our domain controllers is won't update. when an update is attempted it says the service is not running (checked and restarted yes it is) and event viewer says its error 0x80072ee2 but this apparently means there is a connection issue but as far as I can work out there isn't. this isn't a short term issue either seems to have been going on since at least feburary. any ideas? Note: Server updates fall to another (more senior) member of the team please do not ask me why they have been so neglected. He doesn't know what the issue is so I'm just trying to get to the bottom of this. many thanks

• Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 issue

  Net 4.0 websites running on a Windows Server 2008 R2 server using IIS 7.0. The websites allows Single Sign on via an encrypted token passed in a query string e.g. www.mywebsite.com?token=1159CE30A4ED1148E86D779AC7A1CF4DC75CCEC7213401D13CA181A2ED1C29A8. However, after installing Service Pack 1; SSO has stopped working and the website redirects to www.mywebsite.com. The redirect occurs before any code is hit. No idea what is causing this and any ideas would be much appreciated.

• Connect Team Foundation Service/TFS 2012 with Visual Studio 2010 &amp; Visual Studio 2008

  Hello, Microsoft finally released the Team Foundation Service in late October 2012 after its long time in the preview phase. I was already using the TFS Preview which was free but I was happy to see Microsoft releasing the Team Foundation Service also FREE for upto 5 users. Isn't that great news? I know there are bunch of other free source control repositories (Github, Bitbucket, SVN etc.) out there but I somehow like TFS better. Also the other good thing about the final release was that I didn’t had to do any kind of migration of my code from preview to final release version. Just changed the TFS connection URL and it worked like a charm. Anyways, if you are a startup with small team and need some awesome Source Control along with all the good Project Management, Continuous Integration (Build, Test, Deploy), Team Collaboration, Agile/Scrum planning etc. features than Team Foundation Service is your answer. Microsoft has not yet released their pricing for more than 5 users and will be releasing it sometime in early 2013. What if as of now you have a team more than 5 users and you want to use Team Foundation Service, the good news is you can use it for FREE but when they release the final pricing, you will have to transition to the paid plan. Lot of story, getting to the point, connecting to Team Foundation Service with Visual Studio 2012 is straight forward and would work out of the box but it wont for previous versions of Visual Studio. You will have to upgrade to the latest service pack first and than install the forward compatibility pack. (1st : Service Packs & 2nd: Forward Compatibility packs) For Visual Studio 2010: Visual Studio 2010 Service Pack 1. Visual Studio 2010 forward compatibility for TFS 2012 and Team Foundation Service.         For Visual Studio 2008: Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack 1. Visual Studio 2008 forward compatibility for TFS 2012 & Team Foundation Service. Restart your system. Visual Studio 2008 will not work if you only put https://xxx.visualstudio.com. You will have to put your collection name too as shown below.       By the way, it doesn’t matter if you are an Apple Application Developer or Android App Developer, you can still use Team Foundation Service as your source control. I was recently watching the session presented by Sriram and Rajesh on “Application Integration Futures: The Road Map and What's Next on Windows Azure”.
