  • Cygwin diff won't exclude files if a directory is included in the pattern

    I need to do a recursive diff using cygwin that needs do exclude all .xml files from certain directories, but not from other directories. According to the --help option I should be able to do this with with the --exclude=PAT option where PAT is a pattern describing the files I want to exclude from the diff. If I do this: diff -rw --exclude="classes/Services.xml" the diff does not ignore the Services.xml file in the classes directory. If I do this diff -rw --exclude="Services.xml" the diff does ignore the Services.xml file in all directories. I need to do something like this: diff -rw --exclude="*/generated/resources/client/*.xml" to ignore all .xml files in the directory */generated/resources/client/. Whenever I add path information to the --exclude pattern cygwin does not ignore the file(s) I've specified in the pattern. Is there some way to make cygwin diff recognize a pattern that identifies certain files in certain directories? It seems to not be able to handle any directory information at all.

  • Quickly accessing files in a 'project'

    Hi all. I'm looking for a way to quickly open files in my project's source tree. What I've been doing so far is adding files to the file-name-cache like so: (file-cache-add-directory-recursively (concat project-root "some/sub/folder") ".*\\.\\(py\\)$") after which I can use anything-for-files to access any file in the source tree with about 4 keystrokes. Unfortunately, this solution started falling over today. I've added another folder to the cache and emacs has started running out of memory. What's weird is that this folder contains less than 25% of files I'm adding, and yet emacs memory use goes up from 20mb to 400mb on adding just this folder. The total number of files is around 2000, so this memory use seems very high. Presumably I'm abusing the file cache. Anyway, what do other people do for this? I like this solution for its simplicity and speed; I've looked at some of the many, many project management packages for emacs and none of them really grabbed me... Thanks in advance! Simon

But then I came across something that was unfamiliar, header files. :( What I've got: test-program.c task_header.h function1.s function2.s function3.s function4.s test-program.c: #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <string.h> #include "task_header.h" . .. ... task_header.h: extern void function1(...); extern void function2(...); extern int function3(...); extern void function4(...); And then I use the command: gcc -m32 -o runtest test-program.c function1.s function2.s function3.s function4.s Is this a proper way to do it, or is it possible to modify it? So I can type: gcc -m32 -o runtest test-program.c ?

  • Program that converts Windows 7 install files into iso

    I recently got to build a custom image of Windows 7 and I can successfully install it on other computers. The problem I have is right now I have to do the installs from a bootable hard drive. I would much rather do this from a disk or ISO. I know there is a program that will take the Windows 7 system files and convert it to ISO image, but I can't think of it. Otherwise, could I just simply burn the files to a DVD? Would that work?

  • Unable to move or delete files

    Hi: Just today I got the following error while trying to move/delete several files: The action can't be completed because the file is open in another program. The file wasn't open, but just in case, I closed all programs. When that failed to allow me to move or delete the file, I restarted the computer. When that failed to let me move/delete I came here. Any suggestions? The files can be copy/pasted but move/delete fails even after multiple restarts.

    I have a list of files where I need to remove some lines that have been added yesterday by a spambot. The section I want to remove looks like this: ^M <script>[...] bunch of malware code [...]</script> That section seems to have been appended to the files, so I can be relatively sure it's the last lines of each file that contain this part. Now I know a bit of Linux, but not enough to do this via a command. How would I go about and do this?

  • Bootstrapped Ubuntu 12.04 EC2 instance. Where to find log?

    So I bootstrapped a shell script to install and run a bunch of tasks. Looks like the it ran for the most part, but I added one part and that was formatting an extra EBS volume. Pretty straightforward: mkfs.ext4 /dev/xvdf mkdir –m 000 /vol01 echo “/dev/xvdf /vol01 auto noatime 0 0” | sudo tee –a /etc/fstab sudo mount /vol01 I was able to install MongoDB, NGINX and Forever. I selected to use /dev/xdvf in the AWS console and see it. The 3rd line is not in fstab either. I've searched through various logs in /var/log/ but I don't really see much indicating the execution of the bootstrap. Logs that I see and looked through: auth.log boot.log dmesg dpkg.log syslog udev

    I have a directory of text files that all end in the extension .txt My goal is to print the contents of the text file. I wish to be able use the wildcard *.txt to be able to specific the text file name I wish to open (I'm thinking along the lines of something like "F:\text*.txt" ?), split the lines of the text file, then print the output.     I need to manage the trace files for a database on Sql Server 2005 Express Edition. The C2 audit logging is turned on for the database, and the files that it's creating are eating up a lot of space. Can this be done from within Sql Server, or do I need to write a service to monitor these files and take the appropriate actions? I found the [master].[sys].[trace] table with the trace file properties. Does anyone know the meaning of the fields in this table?

    Possible Duplicate: How to force Windows XP to rename a file with a special character? I have a few files whose names have characters such as "?" and ":" that are forbidden by windows. I'm not sure how they managed to get there with these names, since I can't manually create files with these names. They're recovered from an HFS drive, but the tool that recovered them was running under windows and so should have been subject to the same restrictions while creating them, I would think. Anyway... now that they're here, I can open them, but I can't move, copy, rename, or delete them. I want to delete a few of them, but most I want to save and copy to another drive. How might I go about this?

  • unlock database files when SQL server is idle

    In my development/test environment on my laptop, I can't back up the SQL server database files because the file handles are kept permanently open by SQL server (VSS doesn't work because the drive is truecrypted) I was hoping there may be some setting in SQL server that can make it unlock the data files after a certain period of inactivity and automatically open them again on demand, but I can't find anything. I don't really want to be dumping the database out every night because it's only a development environment. apart from stopping sql server before I do the backup is there any other solution?

    I have a set of files from example001.txt to example100.txt. Each file contains a list of keywords from a superset (the superset is available if we want it). So example001.txt might contain apple banana ... otherfruit I'd like to be able to process these files and produce something akin to a matrix so there is the list of examples* on the top row, the fruit down the side, and a '1' in a column if the fruit is in the file.     I need to import data from 50 similar csv files to a single excel sheet. Is there any way to get only selected columns from each file and put them together in one sheet. Structure of my csv files: A few columns exactly same in all the files. (I want them to be in excel) then one column with same column name but different data which I want to place next to each other with different names in the excel sheet. I do not not want all other remaining columns from csv files. In short, read all csv files, get all the columns which are common to all csv & put in excel sheet. Now, take one column from each file which has the same header but different data and put one after the other in excel sheet with named from the csv file name. Leave remaining rest of the columns. Write excel sheet to a excel file. Initially I thought it can be easily done, but considering my programming skill in learning stage it is way difficult for me. Please help.

  • not able to open files in windows partition from linux on a dual boot system

    I have installed dual boot on my laptop, windows XP && Fedora linux. For some unknown reason windows XP is not booting up. Through fedora I'm able to see the windows XP partition and files in it. But the problem here is, I'm not able to open those files from linux. Does anybody hit this kind of issue, if so and incase you figured out the soluton, can you please share the solution?   • How to have CVS files in different directory than source files in NetBeans?

    I have a project in NetBeans which haven't used CVS until now. Let's say the directory with source files is called /www/source_files and directory with project files /www/project_files. Module in repository is called differently than source files directory. When I'm trying to check out CVS, it forces me to create a directory called exactly how module is called, which is fine by me in fact. Straight after it asks me if I wanted to create new project. And here the problem begins. I don't want to do that and I have no idea how to link newly created directory with CVS and checked out files with my project. I'd like to end up with following structure: /www /source_files /project_files /cvs_files Any ideas how to do this? I'm using NetBeans 6.8.

    If I drag and drop tracked .cs files to new folders in VS2008 with VisualSVN what message should I see when I commit the .cs file? I see added (+) shouldn't I see a "move"? I'm asking because I'm getting ready to do a major refactoring (including moving lots of files) and I don't want to lose my version history on these files. I have been able to remove the link using javascript under Batch Processing in Adobe Pro, but the link text remains.   • Download web server structure with empty files

    I want to make a mirror of a Web server, but downloading the actual files will take too long. So I thought of having just the directory and file structure, and when I need the actual contents of the file, I can download just that file. I have tried wget --spider URL and in a short time it has created in my local disk the directory structure with no files. But I've checked all of wget's or curl's switches and there is nothing like what I need. Can this be done with wget, curl or any other tool?
