• Sharepoint 2010 web application development suitability evaluation/assessment

  I would like to know what kind of applications are suitable to be developed on top of Sharepoint 2010 and which should not be built on to of it. So when to embrace/avoid Sharepoint 2010 as a development platform for new web applications. I'm an Asp.net MVC (former web forms) developer and would like to know if usual multi-page semi complex web applications (intra/extra-net) should be built on top of Sharepoint 2010 and why (if yes or if no).

• Migration from XP to Windows 7 using recovered HD

  Is it possible to migrate the Windows XP Pro 32 bit operating system, applications etc from a USB external drive which is the recovered hard drive from that failed system to my new desktop computer with Windows7 64 bit system? In doing so, I would like to set up the new computer with the OS and all general applications on the primary 1TB hard drive while the secondary 1TB hard drive to have nothing else but graphics programs and gaming applications complete with their related files and add-ons. What will I need to accomplish this task efficiently and economically?

• Mac OS X software always order files alphabetically rather than by type.

  I have noticed many Mac applications sort the files alphabetically rather than by type. A good example would be Coda by panic.com. The files in the file menu are organized alphabetically. I requested for them to add the feature to organize files by type, and they've said that it's a Finder thing. So I looked at other applications to see if they were organizing by type. I noticed Dreamweaver CS4 had this same problem and now including Dreamweaver CS5. There has to be something in the Mac that does this and that I can modify. I played with Spotlight and it now displays its files by type (thinking that's what I can do) but it didn't take effect in other applications. What library are these applications using to display a file menu for their files?

• Running Windows without administrative rights?

  Hello, Among the millions of applications written for Windows, I assume there are probably quite a lot that are too old or too sloppy to run without administrative rights. To convert users to using non-admin accounts in their day-to-day use of Windows, I need a tool that will sort applications between those than can run safely as non-admin and those that expect to have those rights and will thus show some obvious or not-so-obvious wrong behavior as a result. Does someone know of such a tool that would be available for XP/Vista/7, and either scan the whole disk for unsafe applications, or would be started at boot time and lurk in the background so that it would show a pop-up and report applications that triggered an error because of this lack of admin rights? Thank you.

• Cannot Start MySQL Server on Fresh MAMP Install

  I'm using Mac OS X 10.6.2 on my Macbook Pro. I can get the apache server to start, but not the mysql server, on both the default apache and default MAMP ports. When I try to go to my start page, I get the message "Error: Could not connect to MySQL server!" .   i have widows seven ultimate install on my laptop but use xp mode for many applications on it, is it possible to return an application in xp mode to an earlier restore point in just xp mode or does the host machine need to be restored i do not wish to make any changes on the host but require to either re install windows virtual pc and all the applications and upgrade them slowly to the point my application fails or restore the applications back? any advise on this will be grately recieved

• How to configure cookieless virtual host in Apache2?

  We run over a hundred web applications (growing daily) on a LAMP stack using Apache2 on Ubuntu 10.04. We've would like all requests to static content to be cookieless. We host applications on many different domains, a majority of which as SaSS applications. Many of the domains host instances of the applications on sub domains, ie. myapp.example.com, myapp2.example.com myapp.otherexample.com etc.. At the moment all static content is server relative to the (sub)domain requesting it. As far as I understand the process, I would need to setup a new domain, eg. staticexample.com. In this case is special configuration in the virtual host for this domain required to ensure no cookies are served? Also, would it be possible to instead use static.example.com? • Did 12.04 just add multi-touch gesture support mid-release?

  I was reviewing the updates I was about to download today and I noticed that a lot of them had to do with gesture support, noticed that many of these were new installs rather than upgrades. Has 12.04 just added multi-touch gesture support mid-release? If so, what are the capabilities that this adds? Which applications already support these capabilities and can I expect others to add support in the near future? Here are the packages that were installed: Install: libframe6:amd64 (2.2.4-0ubuntu0.12.04.1), libgeis1:amd64 (2.2.9.2-0ubuntu1), libgrail5:amd64 (3.0.6-0ubuntu0.12.04.01, automatic) And here are those that were upgraded (also including many with touch support): Upgrade: libgrip0:amd64 (0.3.4-0ubuntu2~ubuntu12.04.1, 0.3.5-0ubuntu1~12.04.1), eog:amd64 (3.4.2-0ubuntu1, 3.4.2-0ubuntu1.1), ginn:amd64 (0.2.4-0ubuntu1, 0.2.4.1-0ubuntu1) Of which the descriptions for the new installs are, libgeis1: Gesture engine interface support A common API for clients of a systemwide gesture recognition and propagation engine. libframe6: Touch Frame Library This library handles the buildup and synchronization of a set of simultaneous touches. The library is input agnostic, with bindings for mtdev, frame and XI2.1. libgrail5: Gesture Recognition And Instantiation Library This library consists of an interface and tools for handling gesture recognition and gesture instantiation. Applications can use the grail callbacks to receive gesture primitives and raw input events from the underlying kernel device. And the descriptions for the upgraded packages are, ligrip0: provides multitouch gestures to GTK+ apps Libgrip hooks gesture recognition into GTK+ applications. ginn: Gesture Injector: No-GEIS, No-Toolkits A daemon with jinn-like wish-granting capabilities: it gives applications the ability to support a subset of multi-touch gestures without having to integrate GEIS or multi-touch GTK/Qt libs. Adding in a ton of new libraries and upgrading the existing components makes me wonder if 12.04 is meant to start natively supporting gestures other than two finger scroll in the near future. I expected these capabilities to be introduced soon but I thought that they would only be rolled out in a new release, not as upgrades for an existing release. Anyone have any info about this?

• Leveraging ERP Investments with EPM and BI Solutions

• New partnership allows auto-transposition of client/server application to Windows Azure

  The economics of IT is changing rapidly, and organizations are searching to widen and secure availability of their systems and at the same time lower costs which is exactly what the cloud meant to do. Running your systems on Microsoft’s Windows Azure cloud for example would improve and secure the availability, accessibility and scalability (both up and down) of your systems and support the new IT economics. However, in order to take advantage of the cloud's promise of lower cost of ownership, the applications must be built or adjusted to work on that platform and in most cases this is not a simple task.  Even existing web applications cannot always be transferred to Azure without some changes, and for client/server applications, the task is way more challenging even to the point where it seems impossible. The reason is the gaps between the client/server desktop technology and the cloud's. For that reason, most of the known methodologies to migrate existing client/server applications actually involve rewrite of the desktop systems for the cloud. A unique approach is introduced by Visual WebGui which creates a virtualization layer atop ASP.Net web server, it moves the transformed or generated .Net code to that layer, and then using a patent pending protocol it renders a user interface within a plain browser. The end result is pure .NET code that is a base code for a pure rich web application and now due to a collaboration with Microsoft Windows Azure Visual WebGui provides the shortest path from client/server to the Azure cloud by being able to handle close to 95% of the transformation to the cloud platform in an automatic way.
