• Is there an AIR native extension to use GameCenter APIs for turn-based games?

  I'm planning a turn based game using the iOS 5 GameCenter (GameKit) turn-based functions. Ideally I would program the game with AIR (I'm a Flash dev), but so far I can't seem to find any already available native extension that offers that (only basic GameCenter functions), so my questions are: Does anyone know if that already exists? And secondly how complex a task would it be to create an extension that does that? Are there any pitfalls I should be aware of etc.? ** UPDATE ** There does not seem a solution to the above from Adobe. For anyone who is interested check out the Adobe Gaming SDK. It contains a Game Center ANE which I've read contains options for multiplayer but not turn-based multiplayer, at least it's a start. Comes a bit late for me as I've already learned Obj-c!

  At Coscend, a cloud and communications software product company, we have built a Web portal-based collaboration platform that we like to host on five different Windows- and Linux-based servers in different hosting environments that run Web servers. Each of these Windows and Linux servers has a different host name and domain name (and IP address). Our team would appreciate your guidance on: (1) Is there a way to implement this Web portal-based platform on these Linux and Windows servers without customizing the host name, domain name and IP address for each individual instance? (2) Is there a way to create some variables using JavaScript for host name and domain name and call them from the different implementations? If a reference to the host/domain names occurs on hundreds of our pages, the variables or objects would replace that. (3) This is part of making these JavaScript modules portable and re-usable for different environments and instances. • Styling columns based on DataGridTemplateColumn in a WPF DataGrid

  I am using a WPF DataGrid where one of the columns has a requirement to show an "Edit" hyperlink if the row is editable - this is indicated by a boolean flag in the backing model for the row. I was able to achieve this using a DataGridTemplateColumn - no problems. However an additional requirement on the entire row is not to show any highlights when the row is selected (this is a blue background by default). I have been able to achieve this on other columns by defining the DataGridCell style with a transparent background, e.g. <DataGridTextColumn Header="Id" Binding="{Binding Path=Id}" HeaderStyle="{StaticResource DataGridColumnHeaderStyle}" CellStyle="{StaticResource DataGridCellStyle}" /> where DataGridCellStyle is defined as follows: <Style x:Key="DataGridCellStyle" TargetType="{x:Type DataGridCell}"> <Setter Property="Background" Value="Transparent" /> ... </Style> However the column in question, a DataGridTemplateColumn, does not offer a "CellStyle" attribute which I can use for turning off selection highlights. So my question is how to set the cell style when using a DataGridTemplateColumn? • How should I design my MYSQL table/s?

  I built a really basic php/mysql site for an architect that uses one 'projects' table. The website showcases various projects that he has worked on. Each project contained one piece of text and one series of images. Each page could use one of three layouts. As each project does not currently have more than 4 pieces of text (a very risky assumption) I have expanded the original table to accommodate everything. • jQuery remove SELECT options based on another SELECT selected on change and on load

  I'm using the following jQuery code to remove options from a select and it is working well. But instead of it only executing when the theOption2 select is changed I would also like it to work when the page is loaded depending on the selected item that is selected. I tried using the a copy of the script and changing the .change to .load and also tried using (window).load without the desired results. Essentially, I need the script to execute on change of the Options1 and on the loading of the page. • Need a Java based interruptible timer thread

  I have a Main Program which is running a script on the target device(smart phone) and in a while loop waiting for stdout messages. However in this particular case, some of the heartbeat messages on the stdout could be spaced almost 45secs to a 1minute apart. something like: stream = device.runProgram(RESTORE_LOGS, new String[] {}); stream.flush(); String line = stream.readLine(); while (line.compareTo("") != 0) { reporter.commentOnJob(jobId, line); line = stream.readLine(); } So, I want to be a able to start a new interruptible thread after reading line from stdout with a required a sleep window. Upon being able to read a new line, I want to be able to interrupt/stop(having trouble killing the process), handle the newline of stdout text and restart a process. And it the event I am not able to read a line within the timer window(say 45secs) I want to a way to get out of my while loop either. I already tried the thread.run, thread.interrupt approach. But having trouble killing and starting a new thread. Is this the best way out or am I missing something obvious?

• choose javascript variable based on element id from jquery

  I feel like this is a simple question, but I am still relatively new to javascript and jquery. I am developing a site for a touch interface that uses unordered lists and jquery .click functions to take input data. I have a section to input a m:ss time, with 3 divs, each containing a list of digits for time. I need to get the input for each column and set it as a variable. I originally designed the inputs to change form inputs, because I didn't understand javascript very much. It was easy to change the 3 hidden inputs by using div id's, but I can't figure out how to do it now with javascript variables. Here is my original jquery code... $("div#time>div>ul>li").click(function() { var id = $(this).parents(".time").attr("name"); var number = $(this).html(); $("input#"+id).val(number); }); The last line sets one of 3 hidden inputs equal to whatever was clicked. I need to make it so separate variables take the inputs, then I can manipulate those variables however I want.   I have XML files that are representation of a portion of HTML code. Those XML files also have widget declarations. Example XML file: <message id="msg"> <p> <Widget name="foo" type="SomeComplexWidget" attribute="value"> inner text here, sets another attribute or inserts another widget to the tree if needed... </Widget> </p> </message> I have a main Widget class that all of my widgets inherit from. The question is how would I create it? Here are my options: Create a compile time tool that will parse the XML file and create the necessary code to bind the widgets to the needed objects. Advantages: No extra run-time overhead induced to the system. It's easy to bind setters. Disadvantages: Adds another step to the build chain. Hard to maintain as every widget in the system should be added to the parser. Use of macros to bind the widgets. Complex code Find a method to register all widgets into a factory automatically. Advantages: All of the binding is done completely automatically. Easier to maintain then option 1 as every new widget will only need to call a WidgetFactory method that registers it. Disadvantages: No idea how to bind setters without introducing a maintainability nightmare. Adds memory and run-time overhead. Complex code What do you think is better? Can you guys suggest a better solution?

The best would be to have an combination of a specific tag with a specific id. Is it possible to extend the small JS function above to work this way (using some document.getElementsByTag(tag).getElementsById(id).innerHTML or something alike (I don't know what exactly suites the need) in a loop?   Sorry if this is another repost. I have been attempting to find a solution but nothing works that I have tried. I am using a blog which I have full html control over. I can usually find my way around basic html but when it comes to Java or CSS I am a complete newb. Sorry, I know absolutely nothing. Now that that is out of the way. I have two sidebar div's that I am trying to hide on one specific url to utilize more space for a content iframe. • xterm not wrapping text properly

  I'm configuring both my gnome-terminal and xterm columns (i still haven't picked which of these I will be using) and I have a couple of issues I would like to fix: the typing area seems to be smaller (fewer columns) than the display area the typed text is not wrapping to the next line when it reaches the end - it just continues back around on the same line, overwriting the prompt (i have set a custom bash prompt with PS1 in case this is relevant) $ lsb_release -a No LSB modules are available. I have found that I can get the desired result by setting the columns to a very large number, eg: $ stty cols 1800 this fixes both problems. Is it the right way to go about solving this problem? Will this "break" any of the output from programs?   The graphical Interface in my system is garbled with some text. At the beginning I thought it was due to java and tomcat that I installed. But after removing java and tomcat, it is still the same. I am using ubuntu server and i have installed xfce desktop environment with oboard softkey I have added my dmesg output to this message. What is the problem here. I am not able to figure it out.   I've encountered a very strange problem when trying to reply to e-mail via my Yahoo Web Mail from a family member's computer. She received an e-mail from a client who is using Microsoft Outlook. When I receive the message it looks perfectly fine in my browser and I can read it. It doesn't happen with all e-mails except this particular one. At a glance it almost looks like raw CSS code that's being displayed, but I really can't understand why. So far I have tried the following: Try a different browser, both IE11 and Google Chrome Check the browser encoding settings Check Yahoo Web Mail's encoding/font settings My only other guess is that the client used some weird font or formatting on the e-mail that is throwing the message body out of sync. Unfortunately for my family member, she is a contractor working with a medium-sized company that refuses to provide her with a domain e-mail address, so she is forced to conduct business this way. Simply asking the sender to use a more widely supported font wouldn't be an acceptable solution here. Any thoughts?

  Hi Guys, I'm constructing a geolocation based application and I'm trying to figure out a way to make my application realise when a user is facing the direction of the given location (a particular long / lat co-ord). I've got the math figured, I just have the triangle to construct. //UPDATE So I've figured out a good bit of this... Below is a method which takes in a long / lat value and attempts to compute a triangle finding a point 700 meters away and one to its left + right. It'd then use these to construct the triangle. It computes the correct longitude but the latitude ends up somewhere off the coast of east Africa. • Truncating long strings with CSS: feasible yet?

  Is there any good way of truncating text with plain HTML and CSS, so that dynamic content can fit in a fixed-width-and-height layout? I've been truncating server-side by logical width (i.e. a blindly-guessed number of characters), but since a 'w' is wider than an 'i' this tends to be suboptimal, and also requires me to re-guess (and keep tweaking) the number of characters for every fixed width. Ideally the truncation would happen in the browser, which knows the physical width of the rendered text. I've found that IE has a text-overflow: ellipsis property that does exactly what I want, but I need this to be cross-browser. This property seems to be (somewhat?) standard but isn't supported by Firefox. I've found various workarounds based on overflow: hidden, but they either don't display an ellipsis (I want the user to know the content was truncated), or display it all the time (even if the content wasn't truncated). Does anyone have a good way of fitting dynamic text in a fixed layout, or is server-side truncation by logical width as good as I'm going to get for now?
