  I'm playing around with writing some simple Spring-based web apps and deploying them to Tomcat. Almost immediately, I run into the need to customize the Tomcat's JVM settings with -XX:MaxPermSize (and -Xmx and -Xms); without this, the server easily runs out of PermGen space. Why is this such an issue for Java compared to other garbage collected languages? Comparing counts of "tune X memory usage" for X in Java, Ruby, Perl and Python, shows that Java has easily an order of magnitude more hits in Google than the other languages combined.

  I want to add a Custom field to the ContactsContract content provider. I'm trying to build a Voip application and would like to add a SIP address(name@domain) field to it. What MIME type will I need to associate with it? Also I want to add a group address field which will have a list of group addresses in it (name@domain, name@domain,...). Wich MIME type will I have to associate with this type of field. I also want to add custom fields to the Call History like a session ID and SIP address(name@domain) field. How can I customize the call history? It'll be great if someone can give me an example.

  I am learning Django and got it to work with wsgi. I'm following the tutorial here: http://docs.djangoproject.com/en/1.1/intro/tutorial01/ My question is: how can I customize the look and feel of Django? Is there a repository of templates that "look good", kind of like there are for Wordpress, that I can start from? I find the tutorial counterintuitive in that it goes immediately toward customizing the admin page of Django, rather than the main pages visible to users of the site. Is there an example of a "typical" Django site, with a decent template, that I can look at and built on/modify? The polls application is again not very representative since it's so specialized. any references on this would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

• Javascript/jQuery: Varying parameters on a custom function

  I'm writing a plugin that will allow parameters to 'set it up.' But I predict the user won't always want to set up every aspect of the function. function This_Function(a,b,c,d); For instance, maybe they'll only want to set up a and c, but not b and d (they'll just prefer to leave those as defaults). How do I write the function (or the parameters for that matter) so that the user can customize which functions they would prefer to pass? I have a feeling it involves parsing input, but I've seen many other functions with this capability. Thanks in advance for the help.

  I want to do the architectural design for a software that can be used integrate various third party software’s (executable) under one platform. Standard project types will be added to the platform by default. The project type defines the way in which the different software will be executed and their input and output files. The user can customize the available standard project type and that will be added to the platform as new project type which defines new custom execution flow. Also it should support easy extension and customization of the features. I read that plug-in based architecture supports both. What are the advantages and disadvantages of plug-in based architecture? The mybb_userfields is the table that contain custom profile field data that they are able to customize & change in their profile. Now, all I want to do is display all users in rows with the custom profile field data that they provided in their profile(which is in the mybb_userfields table) How can I display these fields correctly together? For instance, p0gz is a male,lives in AZ,he owns a 360,does not know his bandwidth & Flip Side Phoenix is his team. How can it just be like "p0gz-male-az-360-dont know-flipside phoenix" in a row~???

• Where does one enter the JavaScript code in CRM Dynamics?

  I've started to play with CRM Dynamics yesterday so this question should be seen as a very basic one. I've been coding for many years but CRM D is news to me. Apparently, one is supposed to be able to enter JavaScript code to customize the behavior of the application. I've understood that there's an API for that and that touching DOM directly or playing with jQuery is a no-no. Question: Where is the JS-code supposed to be entered? I've gone through all the menus but as far I can see, there's no spot where I could plug-in my custom code. E.g.: Where do I get to define a validation for the last name of a contact currently being defined?

  I have to undertake a project which is to make a video chat application. The video has to be streamed from one location and can be viewed by multiple people spread out over the globe. Performance is really an issue and a delay of more than 2-3 seconds is unacceptable. From what i gather, this can be done in Flex and also in JAVA. Any performance issues and caveats with a particular approach ? I would really like the pros to comment on this and guide me through. Will be very very helpful. Are there any open source libraries available for video recording in flash / JAVA which i can integrate into my app and customize according to my needs ?

• Jquery and CSS switching - is this possible?

  I build a css file using PHP which allows me to easily customize the color of many elements. Is it possible for me to "rebuild" the stylesheet and apply it to the page in the DOM using Jquery? eg. <?php if (isset($_POST['mycolor'])){ $myColor = $_POST['mycolor']; } else { $myColor = "blue"; } ?> <style type='text/css'> .style1{ color:<?php $myColor;?>; } </style> Now on my page I have a link you can click called "change color to red" and when you click "red" it does a $.post to my php script, which rebuilds the css including .style1 - and allows the page to change the stylesheet. I haven't tested this but would it even work? If I echo'ed out the new stylesheet after the post into the dom... would it even apply to the page?

  I have an image gallery for which I have configured an Imagecache preset. It's my first time using Imagecache so I am not sure if I am using it right. Right now, I see that I can only configure the CCK imagefield to show me the imagecache generated image in either the preview or the full node version of the field. I would prefer to have a new CCK field with the imagecache generated picture. Is this possible? Is there a module for this? If it isnt, how can I customize my gallery view to show me the preview version of the image, instead of the full node version, which it is currently showing?

  I want to build a site where people can create their personal websites quickly. All their websites will be hosted on my single web application (i.e. there will be only one database which contains info of all the websites). Each person will have an account where he can customize his website (template, content etc.). They can access their website from .mysite.com or mysite.com/xyz. I should be able to add different modules frequently, which will immediately reflect in all the websites created through my site. Based on the above requirements, please suggest me if there are any frameworks to use which can ease my job. Also suggest me which language to use (php or java). Which one would be better.

  Hello, I am looking at ASP.NET membership controls (2008) and have been dropping them onto web pages to see how it all works. In some ASP.NET starter kit web site examples that I downloaded, I notice that between the asp:control tags I can see all the tags of the constituent parts like the textboxes, labels and buttons etc. However with the membership control that I am using in 2008 I do not see these other tags. Is this because the starter kit examples are from an older version or is it possible to expose these inner tags? It seems that this would make it possible to customize the controls. • Drupal, template.php where do the $form names come from ?

  hi, I want to customize my Drupal back-end forms. I'm using template.php file.. i.e. $form['menu']['#collapsed'] = true; $form['author']['#collapsed'] = true; $form['buttons']['#weight'] = 100; But I was wondering from where the section names (menu, author, buttons), come from. (They are not id or classes in html code, so I guess there is an index with all names stored somewhere. Where can I get the complete list of section names ? Furthermore, I've added a taxonomy-super-select-checkboxes section by installing the module. How can I refer to this section, to make the field not collapsed. thanks

  I'm still entangled in error handling problems. After having read and tried lots of different scripts, I still do not have an overall insight on the problem. I made a syntax error on purpose and get the following error message : Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '{' in /home/directory/public_html/mypage.php on line 10 To understand how it work, as a first step, I'd like to remove this message(which I'am able to do) and replace it by a custom one. • viewForHeaderInSection - create header that would display properly in all cases

  I have an interesting problem/question and i'm not sure if it is even doable. So I have a custom header view for regular UITableView. But it's transparent and it doesn't fill fill table width. So it displayed properly when table is scrolled and this header view is displayed above cell content (sticked to the top). But when same header is displayed between two sections down - it looks ugly, because it's transparent and it's either displayed above black rectangle or above table background. I was wondering is there way to customize header view for when it's stick to the top and when it's not. Or... may be it's possible to specify what needs to be displayed underneath header view when it's between sections. Something like sectionSeparatorView?

  if getChildHtml('product_type_data') ? maps directly to catalog/product/view/type/simple.phtml by default, how do I map to my own file? If I wanted to create a file that would produce a small image to place on the product page, right under "availability" how would I tell magento to map to where I have put the file? From what I understand getChildHtml('product_type_data') ? defaults to the file path: catalog/product/view/type/simple.phtml so how can I customize the magento defaults and tell it to map to my custom files i've created? I hope I have explained this well enough, if not, please let me know and I will try to explain more. Any help or guidance would be awesome. Thanks.

  I was wondering: Is it possible to customize the Android Contact Picker so that it can also allow adding a new contact as a menu option in the default contact list? At the moment, if I invoke the contact picker from my activity, it only displays the default contact list. I would also like the user to be able to create a new contact if it did not exist already. I have searched this quite a lot but do not find appropriate API to do this. There is nothing in ContactContract as far as I can see.

  I'm attempting to customize the error output on the CakePHP 2.0 form helper. Currently, the form renders error messages below the input and applies an 'error' class to the input's label. I have found that I can either disable error reporting altogether for an input, or output the error class and message. I would like the error class to be applied to the label of the offending inputs WITHOUT any message below. How do you turn off the error message outputting for a form, BUT still apply error classes to offending labels?

  Many questions here on SO ask about custom classes. I, on the other hand, have no idea what they're talking about. "Custom class" seems to mean the same thing I mean when I say "class". What did I miss, back in the '80s, that keeps me from understanding? I know that it's possible to purchase a packaged system - for Accounting, ERP, or something like that. You can then customize it, or add "custom code" to make the package do things that are specific to your business. But that doesn't describe the process used in writing a .NET program. In this case, the entire purpose of the .NET Framework is to allow us to write our own code. There is nothing useful out of the box.

  I've been trying to get UISearchBarDisplayController to not animate, and stay fixed below the navigation bar. Is this even possible, I've been getting some weird results. This is all configured through a storyboard. I am just trying to figure out If I should just create my own implementation of UISearchBarDisplayController since it kinda seems a little impossible to customize it to my need. Clicking the search box When I start searching the top has extra paddding (20pt). It's assuming its on top of the origin y: 0 to prevent overlapping of status bar.
