  • SSIS Catalog: How to use environment in every type of package execution

    Here is a good blog on how to create a SSIS Catalog and setting up environments.  http://sqlblog.com/blogs/jamie_thomson/archive/2010/11/13/ssis-server-catalogs-environments-environment-variables-in-ssis-in-denali.aspx Here I will summarize 3 ways I know so far to execute a package while using variables set up in SSIS Catalog environment. First way, we have SSIS project having reference to environment, and having one of the project parameter using a value set up in the environment called "Development".  With this set up, you are limited to calling the packages by right-clicking on the packages in the SSIS catalog list and select Execute, but you are free to choose absolute or relative path of the environment. The following screenshot shows the 2 available paths to your SSIS environments.  Personally, I use absolute path because of Option 3, just to keep everything simple for myself. The second option is to call through SQL Job.  This does require you to configure your project to already reference an environment and use its variable.  When a job step is set up, the configuration part will require you to select that reference again.  This is more useful when you want to automate the same package that needs to be run in different environments. The third option is the most important to me as I have a SSIS framework that calls hundreds of packages.  The main part of the stored procedure is in this post (http://geekswithblogs.net/LifeLongTechie/archive/2012/11/14/time-to-stop-using-ldquoexecute-package-taskrdquondash-a-way-to.aspx).  But the top part had to be modified to include the logic to use environment reference.   • Using pkexec policy to run out of /opt/

    I still try to make it possible to run my app with root priveleges. Therefore I created two policies to run the application via pkexec (one for /usr/bin and one for /opt/extras... ) and added them to the setup.py: data_files=[('/usr/share/polkit-1/actions', ['data/com.ubuntu.pkexec.armorforge.policy']), ('/usr/share/polkit-1/actions', ['data/com.ubuntu.extras.pkexec.armorforge.policy']), ('/usr/bin/', ['data/armorforge-pkexec'])] ) additionally I added a startscript which uses pkexec for starting the application. It distinguishes between the two places and is used in the Exec-Statement of the desktopfile: #!/bin/sh if [ -f /opt/extras.ubuntu.com/armorforge/bin/armorforge ]; then pkexec "/opt/extras.ubuntu.com/armorforge/bin/armorforge" "$@" else pkexec `which armorforge` "$@" fi If I simply do a quickly package everything will work right. But if I package with extras option: quickly package --extras the Exec-statement will be exchanged. Even if I try to simulate the pkexec call via armorforge-pkexec It will aks for a password and then returns this: andre@andre-desktop:~/Entwicklung/Ubuntu/armorforge$ armorforge-pkexec (armorforge:10108): GLib-GIO-ERROR **: Settings schema 'org.gnome.desktop.interface' is not installed Trace/breakpoint trap (core dumped) So ok, I could not trick the opt-thing. How can I make sure, that my Application will run with root priveleges out of opt. I copied the way of using pkexec from synaptic. My application is for communicating with apparmor which currently has no dbus interface. Else I need to write into /etc/apparmor.d-folder. How should I deal with the opt-build which, as far as I understand, is required to submit my application to the ubuntu software center. Thanks for any hints and/or links :-)

Unsurprisingly it didn’t work there: Msg 40515, Level 15, State 1, Line 16 Reference to database and/or server name in 'MASTER.dbo.xp_instance_regread' is not supported in this version of SQL Server. @Jamiet

  • Repository query conditions, dependencies and DRY

    To keep it simple, let's suppose an application which has Accounts and Users. Each account may have any number of users. There's also 3 consumers of UserRepository: An admin interface which may list all users Public front-end which may list all users An account authenticated API which should only list it's own users Assuming UserRepository is something like this: class UsersRepository extends DatabaseAbstraction { private function query() { return $this->database()->select('users.*'); } public function getAll() { return $this->query()->exec(); } // IMPORTANT: // Tons of other methods for searching, filtering, // joining of other tables, ordering and such... } Keeping in mind the comment above, and the necessity to abstract user querying conditions, How should I handle querying of users filtering by account_id? I can picture three possible roads: 1. Should I create an AccountUsersRepository? class AccountUsersRepository extends UserRepository { public function __construct(Account $account) { $this->account = $account; } private function query() { return parent::query() ->where('account_id', '=', $this->account->id); } } This has the advantage of reducing the duplication of UsersRepository methods, but doesn't quite fit into anything I've read about DDD so far (I'm rookie by the way) 2. Should I put it as a method on AccountsRepository? class AccountsRepository extends DatabaseAbstraction { public function getAccountUsers(Account $account) { return $this->database() ->select('users.*') ->where('account_id', '=', $account->id) ->exec(); } } This requires the duplication of all UserRepository methods and may need another UserQuery layer, that implements those querying logic on chainable way. 3. Should I query UserRepository from within my account entity? class Account extends Entity { public function getUsers() { return UserRepository::findByAccountId($this->id); } } This feels more like an aggregate root for me, but introduces dependency of UserRepository on Account entity, which may violate a few principles. 4. Or am I missing the point completely? Maybe there's an even better solution? Footnotes: Besides permissions being a Service concern, in my understanding, they shouldn't implement SQL query but leave that to repositories since those may not even be SQL driven.

    I stumble upon the search of a good resource to start with OpenGL (3.0 or later) . Well, I found a lot of books but none of them can be considered a good resource! Here two examples: OpenGL Programming Guide (7th edition) http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0321552628/khongrou-20 This is FULL of deprecated material! Almost every chapters begin with a note about that. OpenGL Superbible (5th Edition) http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0321712617/khongrou-20 This book uses a library created by the author to explain the main arguments, hiding what you want to learn! I don't want to learn how to use your library! I want to learn OpenGL! I hope that you understand this is not the same question like "hey I'm not able to use Google... tell me how to learn OpenGL". I've just finished a full and deep search but I can't find a good and complete resource to learn the "new" OpenGL avoiding deprecated topics. Can someone heading me in the right direction? I know C++ and I have 10 years of experience in development... where I can find a good resource?! I want to spend time on it and I want to learn deeply. (please feel free to edit my question, my English is terrible!)

  • Soapui & populating database before

    SoapUi & database data needed Hi, In a J2ee project( spring ws + hibernate +postgresql+maven 2 + tomcat),We have created webservices with full crud operations. We are currently testing them with SoapUi (not yet integrated in the integration-test maven phase ). We need tomcat to test them. Actually before the phase test, with a maven plugin, only one time, some datas are injected in the database before the launch of all tests through many sql files. But the fact is that to test some webservices i need some data entry & their Id (primary key) A- What is the best way to create them ? 1- populate one of the previous .sql test file. But now we have a big dependency where i have to be careful to use the same id use in a insert in the sql file in SoapUi too. And if any developper drop the value, the test will broke. 2- create amongst the .sql file test a soapui.sql where ALL data needed for the Sopaui test will be concentrated. The advantage is that the maintenance will be much more easy. 3-because i have Ws available for all crud operations, i can create before any testsuite a previous testsuite called setup-testsuiteX. In this one, i will use those Ws to inject datas in the databse & save id in variables thanks to the feature "property transfer" 4-launch the soapui test xml file with a junit java test & in the Setup Method (we are using spring test), we will populate the database with DbUnit. Drawback: they are already data in the database & some conflicts may appear due to constraint.And now i have a dependency between: - dbUnit Xml file (with the value primary key) - sopaui test where THOSe value of primarykey will be used advantage: A automatic rollback is possible for DbUnit Data but i dont know how it will react because those data have been used with the Ws. 5- your suggestion ? better idea ? Testing those Ws create datas in the DB. How is the best way to remove them at the end ?   • Why do I get Detached Entity exception when upgrading Spring Boot 1.1.4 to 1.1.5

    On updating Spring Boot from 1.1.4 to 1.1.5 a simple web application started generating detached entity exceptions. Specifically, a post authentication inteceptor that bumped number of visits was causing the problem. A quick check of loaded dependencies showed that Spring Data has been updated from 1.6.1 to 1.6.2 and a further check of the change log shows a couple of issues relating to optimistic locking, version fields and JPA issues that have been fixed. Well I am using a version field and it starts out as Null following recommendation to not set in the specification. I have produced a very simple test scenario where I get detached entity exceptions if the version field starts as null or zero. If I create an entity with version 1 however then I do not get these exceptions. Is this expected behaviour or is there still something amiss? Below is the test scenario I have for this condition. In the scenario the service layer that has been annotated @Transactional. Each test case makes multiple calls to the service layer - the tests are working with detached entities as this is the scenario I am working with in the full blown application. The test case comprises four tests: Test 1 - versionNullCausesAnExceptionOnUpdate() In this test the version field in the detached object is Null. This is how I would usually create the object prior to passing to the service. This test fails with a Detached Entity exception. I would have expected this test to pass. If there is a flaw in the test then the rest of the scenario is probably moot. Test 2 - versionZeroCausesExceptionOnUpdate() In this test I have set the version to value Long(0L). This is an edge case test and included because I found reference to Zero values being used for version field in the Spring Data change log. This test fails with a Detached Entity exception. Of interest simply because the following two tests pass leaving this as an anomaly. Test 3 - versionOneDoesNotCausesExceptionOnUpdate() In this test the version field is set to value Long(1L). Not something I would usually do, but considering the notes in the Spring Data change log I decided to give it a go. This test passes. Would not usually set the version field, but this looks like a work-around until I figure out why the first test is failing. Test 4 - versionOneDoesNotCausesExceptionWithMultipleUpdates() Encouraged by the result of test 3 I pushed the scenario a step further and perform multiple updates on the entity that started life with a version of Long(1L). This test passes. Reinforcement that this may be a useable work-around.   • Cloning just a particular directory with hg?

    I come from a Subversion background, but I am slowly migrating to Mercurial. When starting on many of my projects, I would setup a development environment that was configured to a particular starting point in developing an app/webapp/program (much like a Maven 2 archetype, but not necessarily Java/Maven). Later I would checkout this archetype/template project out of my svn repo by its particular path; and than export the working copy from version control by the repository; so that I could import the working copy back in to another repository without adding the changes that I made to the working copy to the base the template/archetype project. I've tried doing the same thing in Mercurial, and I've run into a wall since I can't check out, er..um..no, clone a specific path from the hg repository. If I want to achieve the same sort of functionality using Mecurial, what should I do? Use tagged branches? The archetypes/template projects are very different, but I'd like to keep them in the same repository.

  • Automatic VM deployment

    I have an idea to streamline deployments of prototypes within our team using VMs. The idea would be that a developer would be able to deploy their artifacts to Maven, then use a Web interface to pull them onto a development VM for integration/regression testing. They would then be able to to push those artifacts to a reference system, and finally onto production. I'm currently thinking of doing this myself using the vSphere Java API ( http://vijava.sourceforge.net/ ), and some simple scripting to grab artifacts from the Maven repository, configuration from SVN, and then start up a JBoss server. It feels like the kind of thing that may already be available though, has anyone heard of something similar?

    I am trying to extract some common classes out to be a common jar, and I want to reference it by the appengine project in Eclipse. It compiles well but could not run. The console just told that some classes from the common jar project could not be found. I know I can just export the project into a jar, but I may want to change it sometimes, so I prefer keep it dynamic. And I know maven may be an option but there is no official maven support for appengine, and I will not try to learn it. Then how can I make it work?

    For a long time, I thought that to start a new project we only need 3 basic tools. 1) A Build System (e.g. Maven & CruiseControl) 2) A Version Control System (e.g. CVS & SVN & GIT) 3) A Bug Tracking System (e.g. Bugzilla) Yesterday, a senior guy told me that we need at least one thing more. That is KPI(Key Performance Index). Without KPI, it is impossible to measure whether the project is progressing well or not. KPI is kind of SOFT tool compared to Maven/SVN/Bugzilla. I believe since I missed SOFT tools, there must be some other kind of tools I missed. So, anybody get some ideas what other basic tools necessary for a new project?

  • Eclipse doesn't see my new junit test

    I'm using eclipse to run the tests in a single junit(4) test class. The tests in the class all run just fine. Then I add an additional test and run the class through the test running in ecplise again. Only the old tests are run. The new test isn't seen by eclipse. There's no error or anything, it's just as if eclipse is looking at an old version of the test. If I run the tests using maven, everything works fine. Additionally, after I run the tests in maven, ecplipse can see and run the new test correctly. Any ideas what's going on? Any ideas how to get ecplipse's test runner to see my new test cases?

  • What would you use for deployment scripts in Java?

    Hi, I'm working on a Java web project that uses Maven to build its artifacts. At the end of the Maven build we have a few jar and war files that we need to deploy onto our development/testing environment. Right now we're using a pretty hefty Ant script that performs several tasks (on both Windows/Linux machines) Starts/Stops services Copies/deletes files Builds some stuff and then executes it Etc Ant does the job well - but the script is quickly getting very large, and to be honest, it feels inadequate for the task at hand. Are there other alternatives? I've heard of gant, but I'm not sure that's the right way to go. Thanks for helping!

    I might be missing something but how do you manage Java projects in eclipse that need a lot of Jar files. I know maven manages libraries well if there are new updates but maybe I'm missing something, is there a way that eclipse can update new jar files (it would be especially useful for projects using apache-commons, say). I don't want to sound like asking for a feature request, but I'm looking at if there are ways to keep libraries jar files that a Java project uses to keep them updated automatically the way maven does. With more languages coming with this type of features, finding the right Jar files probably should be easier than this.

    I'm currently using a collection of three commands to get the current tag, branch and the date and SHA1 of the most recent commit. git describe --always --tag git log -1 --format="%H%n%aD" git rev-parse --abbrev-ref HEAD Which will output something like: 1.2.3-gdeadbeef deadbeef3b8d90071c24f51ac8f26ce97a72727b Wed, 19 May 2010 09:12:34 +0200 master To be honest, I'm totally fine with this. But I'm using these commands from Maven and anyone who'd used Maven before, knows how much things like external commands bloat the POM. I just want to slim down my pom.xml and maybe reduce execution time a bit.

    I'm looking to map to a directory on a different host using Jetty/Maven when working locally. I've found you can do this w/ Apache using mod_jk (JkMount/JkUnMount), but haven't figured it how to do the same on jetty. On our dev/q/live servers, we have Apache in front of JBoss and use mod_jk to do this. Locally, we're using jetty To give you an idea of what I'm talking about, this is how you would configure Apache to accomplish this: in httpd.conf: JkMount /images/* host2 JkMount /* host2 JkUnMount /images/* host1 workers.properties: worker.list=host2,host1 worker.host2.host=host-2.theDomain.com worker.host2.port=46654 worker.host1.host=host-1.theDomain.com worker.host1.port=46655 Is there a way to configure Jetty to do the same thing?     Does anyone know any sane reason for such bundling decision? Google engineers act wisely in most cases, so this kinda surprized me. This would cause collisions with other versions of servlet API pulled via Maven dependencies: webapp classpath will likely contain version which is bundled with GWT; container may refuse to load the GWT jar as it contains the javax.servlet package; in most cases this will likely deviate classpaths across your IDE's debugger and the really executing VM.
