  • Tips / Resources for building a Google Chrome plugin

    - by David
After test driving Google Chrome for 30 minutes or so, I like it, even if it seems bare-bones at the moment. The obvious way to add a few things I can't live without would be through plugins. Does anyone have any links to resources on how to get started building a plugin/addon for Chrome? Thanks.

  • multi row header on Google Visualizations

    - by Elzo Valugi
    Hi, I am trying to create a DataTable with a multi row header. I'll exemplify here: | 2008 | 2009 | --------------------------------------------------------- | price | qty. | price | qty | --------------------------------------------------------- | 93993 | 34434 | 34244 | 3434 | ..... The years headers can be fixed as I don't want to do sorting by that. Is there a way to do that in Google Visualizations?

  • OpenID and Google hosted domains

    - by John Leidegren
I get an "The remote name could not be resolved: 'mine.com'" When using this open ID identifier: https://www.google.com/accounts/o8/site-xrds?hd=mine.com And it's true, that the mine.com DNS record doesn't exist. But I'm wondering why it goes to look there in the first place. All I want to be doing is to check if the user can login to our hosted domain. Is that really so hard?

  • Links from Google appending index.php to my URL

    - by davykiash
I recently put up a site and I have been doing some SEO. However I noticed that links from Google search append index.php to my links. For example a site page which clearly appears as www.example.com/index/why on search together with correct content sample when clicked on ends up in the new browser as www.example.com/index.php/why Note that on my site all links are redirected to SSL and I use the MVC stucture. Any directives that am may be missing?

  • Link to Google Streetview using Lat/Long

    - by Dan Monego
I'm trying to make an app that links to Google streetview using latitude/longitude coordinates, and shows a streetview of the nearest road. This is coming from a fairly small and well covered area, so there isn't going to be any coordinates in the middle of the ocean. Is there a published API showing the get parameters you need to link directly to streetview?

  • Google webfonts

    - by Mark
Google webfonts look horrible on windows. What is going on? Is this a temporary problem that will be fixed, or is this just a windows problem that will forever persist? If the latter, doesn't that mean the entire project is sort of useless? Thanks in advance.

  • Deploying Socket.IO App to Windows Azure Web Site with Azure CLI

    - by shiju
In this blog post, I will demonstrate how to deploy Socket.IO app to Windows Azure Website using Windows Azure Cross-Platform Command-Line Interface, which leverages the Windows Azure Website’s new support for Web Sockets. Recently Windows Azure has announced lot of enhancements including the support for Web Sockets in Windows Azure Websites, which lets the Node.js developers deploy Socket.IO apps to Windows Azure Websites. In this blog post, I am using  Windows Azure CLI for create and deploy Windows Azure Website. Install  Windows Azure CLI The Windows Azure CLI available as a NPM module so that you can install Windows Azure CLI using  NPM as shown in the below command. After installing the azure-cli, just enter the command “azure” which will show the useful commands provided by Azure CLI. Import Windows Azure Subscription Account In order to import our Azure subscription account, we need to download the Windows Azure subscription profile. The Azure CLI command “account download” lets you download the  Windows Azure subscription profile as shown in the below command. The command redirect you login to Windows Azure portal and allow you to download the Windows Azure publish settings file. The account import command lets you import the downloaded publish settings file so that you can create and manage Websites, Cloud Services, Virtual Machines and Mobile Services in Windows Azure. Create Windows Azure Website and Enable Web Sockets In this post, we are going to deploy Socket.IO app to Windows Azure Website by using the Web Socket support provided by Windows Azure. Let’s create a Website named “socketiochatapp” using the Azure CLI. The above command will create a Windows Azure Website that will also initialize a Git repository with a remote named Azure. We can see the newly created Website from Azure portal. By default, the Web Sockets will be disabled. So let’s enable it by navigating to the Configure tab of the Website, and select “ON” in Web Sockets option and save the configuration changes. Deploy a Node.js Socket.IO App to Windows Azure Now, our Windows Azure Website supports Web Sockets so that we can easily deploy Socket.IO app to Windows Azure Website. Let’s add Node.js chat app which leverages Socket.IO module. Please note that you have to add npm module dependencies in the package.json file so that Windows Azure can install the dependencies when deploying the app. Let’s add the Node.js app and add the files to git repository. Let’s commit the changes to git repository. We have committed the changes to git local repository. Let’s push the changes to Windows Azure production environment. The successful deployment can see from the Windows Azure portal by navigating to the deployments tab of the selected Windows Azure Website. The screen shot below shows that our chat app is running successfully.   You can follow me on Twitter @shijucv

  • Refresh resources in Windows Phone 7 app

    - by Eugene
I have a Windows Phone app that relies on an XML data file that comes packaged with the app. In the next version of my app, the XML file will be updated, how do I update the data file once per app update? I thought I could change the file name in the isolated storage, but that would leave trash behind. I could also check for exceptions when I load the XML file, but are there any other, more elegant ways?

  • My 5th App

    - by Richard Jones
So, I’ve just completed my 5th commercial iPhone App.   Always when I move to a new programming language I take a test application and port it to learn.   So my equivalent of “Hello World” app.  is - http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/iching-master/id424495901?mt=8 I built this, as an app about a year ago,  but figured that it worked so well on iOS that I would get it published. • Fixed window size app development for Mac OS X

    - by Phil
I am developing a rather eye-candy application which is to be released on Mac App Store. Due to its graphics intensive use, it would save a great deal of time on UI end if the app could be released with a fixed size main frame-dialog. I did try doing a search regarding App Store policies on the matter but could not find anything. Is the distribution of fixed-size frame [productivity] apps are allowed within the App Store if they conform with other design guidelines?

  • iPhone App that only shows a webpage. Allowed in App Store? [closed]

    - by aioobe
I'm building a mobile web-app. One of the requirements from my client is that the user should be able to install (through App Store) a program that displays the webpage. I'm thinking of either just displaying a UIWebView with the web-page or opening the webpage in the browser. This would be my first experience with App Store, so I'd like to ask: Would I run into any troubles regarding acceptance in App Store for such "just-show-whatever-the-server-gives-me" application?

  • Majordomo/Mailman - Yahoo/Google Groups

    - by tom smith
Hi. Not an app question, but thought that I might ask here anyway! The responses might help someone. I've got an app where we're going to be dealing with 5000-10000 people in a group/pool. Periodically, different subsets of people will break off in their own group. I'm looking for thoughts on how to manage/approach this situation. (For now, all of this is being managed on a few servers in the garage, with dynamic IP) I've looked into the Yahoo/google groups, and they seem to be reasonable. The primary issue that I see with this approach, is that I don't have a good way of quickly/easily alowing a subset of the group to form their own group for a given project. This kind of function is critical. The upside to this though, I wouldn't have to really set anything up. And the hosted groups could send emails to the user all day along, without running into cap/bandwidth limits The other approach is a managed list, like mailman/majordomo. This approach appears to be more flexible, and looks like ti could be modified to handle the quick creation of lists, allowing users to quickly be assigned to different lists on the fly.. The downside, I'd have to run my own Mailman/Majordomo instance, as well as the associated mail server. Or I could look at possibly using one of the hosted service.. But this is for a project on the cheap, so we're really trying to keep costs down. Thoughts/Comments/Pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance -tom

  • Getting an Android App to Show Up in the market for "Sony Internet TV"(Google TV)

    - by user1291659
    I'm having a bit of trouble getting my app to show up in the market under GoogleTV. I've searched google's official documentation and I don't believe the manifest lists any elements which would invalidate the program; the only hardware requirement specified is landscape mode, wakelock and external storage(neither which should cause it to be filtered for GTV according to the documentation) and I set the uses touchscreen elements "required" attribute to false. below is the AndroidManifest.xml for my project: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <manifest xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" package="com.whateversoft" android:versionCode="2" android:versionName="0.1" > <uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="8" /> <application android:icon="@drawable/ic_launcher" android:label="Color Shafted" android:theme="@style/Theme.NoBackground" android:debuggable="false"> <activity android:label="Color Shafted" android:name=".colorshafted.ColorShafted" android:configChanges = "keyboard|keyboardHidden|orientation" android:screenOrientation = "landscape"> <!-- Set as the default run activity --> <intent-filter > <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" /> <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" /> </intent-filter> </activity> <activity android:label="Color Shafted Settings" android:name=".colorshafted.Settings" android:theme="@android:style/Theme" android:configChanges = "keyboard|keyboardHidden"> <!-- --> </activity> </application> <!-- DEFINE PERMISSIONS FOR CAPABILITIES --> <uses-permission android:name = "android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE"/> <uses-permission android:name = "android.permission.WAKE_LOCK"/> <uses-feature android:name="android.hardware.touchscreen" android:required="false" /> <!-- END OF PERMISSIONS FOR CAPABILITIES --> </manifest> I'm about to start promoting the app after the next major release so its been kind of a bummer since I can't seem to get this to work. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance : )
