  • Problem with hp laser jet 1018

    Hi! I'm using WinXP SP3 and HP LJ 1018. When I send 80 pages to pring as double side (directly or via FinePrint) only about 10 pages (at one side) are printed, I don't get any pages more and "Continue" button in double-side print dialog is disabled. Is it possible to fix it? Thanks!

    I am working through the security guide from apple (which they did not update since Snow Leopard). In the firewall section it states that ipfw has a default allow rule: 65535 allow ip from any to any And if you enable the firewalls 'stealth mode' via the settings the following rule should be added: 33300 deny icmp from any to me in icmptypes 8 The funny thing is: I have stealth enabled and I do not see this rule when doing sudo ipfw print Any idea where stealth mode is enforced if not in the ipfw ruleset?

  • Quantifying the effects of partition mis-alignment

    I'm experiencing some significant performance issues on an NFS server. I've been reading up a bit on partition alignment, and I think I have my partitions mis-aligned. I can't find anything that tells me how to actually quantify the effects of mis-aligned partitions. Some of the general information I found suggests the performance penalty can be quite high (upwards of 60%) and others say it's negligible. What I want to do is determine if partition alignment is a factor in this server's performance problems or not; and if so, to what degree? So I'll put my info out here, and hopefully the community can confirm if my partitions are indeed mis-aligned, and if so, help me put a number to what the performance cost is. Server is a Dell R510 with dual E5620 CPUs and 8 GB RAM. There are eight 15k 2.5” 600 GB drives (Seagate ST3600057SS) configured in hardware RAID-6 with a single hot spare. RAID controller is a Dell PERC H700 w/512MB cache (Linux sees this as a LSI MegaSAS 9260). OS is CentOS 5.6, home directory partition is ext3, with options “rw,data=journal,usrquota”.   • Socket error sendig data from loftware to zebra zm400

    I have a problem with my Zebra zm 400. I print a label from loftware, and in random times comes the label not out from the printer. When this issue comes, then I can't ping my printer or I can't achive the webpage of the printer. Only I need to disconnect the UTP cable from te Zebra. and after this disconnect work the printer fine. And in variale intervals come this problem again! Thanks and regards, Mike

    I'm getting broken pipe errors from a command that does something like: ls -tr1 /a/path | awk -F '\n' -vpath=/prepend/path/ '{print path$1}' | head -n 50 Essentially I want to list (with absolute path) the oldest X files in a directory. What seems to happen is that the output is correct (I get 50 file paths output) but that when head has output the 50 files it closes stdin causing awk to throw a broken pipe error as it is still outputting more rows.

    when i do "route print" on my machine, it shows my default gateway as 10.225.150.1 but when i do tracert www.google.com, the first machine it reaches is 10.225.150.2. The route command does not show any entry for 10.225.150.2. So, why tracert is showing 10.225.150.2? my maching is on Windows XP.

    I'm trying to create partitions for a slackware instalation on my computer (beside Windows 7) just to have a nice distro running mostly for school but when I run fdisk and print the partitiontable I get the following message: Partition x does not end on cylinder boundary. (in my case x = 1, just using x to help googlers). I must say I'm using a raid card (AMCC 3ware 9500S SATA RAID Controller). Maybe this is the problem. How can I fix this without loosing any data?

    I got the home and remote office users connect to the Terminal Server on my Windows Server 2003 that I published securely through Juniper SSL VPN client applet, they use normal internet connection to access the link which pop up the Terminal Server Remote Desktop application, so my question is, how can they print out the document from within their terminal server session ? if it is going through the internal office LAN mapping the printer through Remote Desktop connection is the solution but not for this one.     Is there some way of printing out ALL Visio shapes - I used to manually do a screen shot of all the shapes and then print it out and bind it so I could flip through the pages and pick out shapes that I needed. Was really handy when I didnt know the name of a shape I was looking for.   • Why does a PDF printed in iWork Pages 09 look crappy in Adobe Reader?

    Hello, I use Snow Leopard at home and work and recently realized that the documents I create in iWork Pages 09 don't look good in Adobe Reader. I go about creating a regular document and 'Print' - Save as PDF in Pages in OS X. The saved PDF file looks great in Preview in OS X but it looks pretty bad in Windows' Adobe Reader and even Adobe Acrobat in OS X. Is there something I could do to make it look better on both platforms? Thank you.
