  • XML RSS to HTML parser doesn't work

    - by mstr
    I'm using MCX (I don't even know if someone here is familiar with it, pretty unkown derivate of COBOL and Fortran, look it up in google when you don't believe me) Note: I'm using MCX on the MCX-WebServices server as it does neither support apache or ISS, mabye that is one problem. The thing is that I want to use the XML library to read in an XML file and convert it into an output format readable by the user. The XML lib already has all the functions I need for that, yet my program fails. #!usr/bin/mcx $PGRM.ID: index.mcx $PGRM.AT: /mstr SHOWERROR: WRITE XML.LastError --> OUTPUT DO_FLUSH xcit end\ MAIN: IMPORT Extras.XML USE Extras $XML_RSS_FILE: XML.ReadIn "rss.xml" ! $XML_RSS_FILE --> GOTO SHOWERROR $XML_RSS: XML.FormatRSS1 <-- $XML_RSS_FILE ! $XML_RSS --> GOTO SHOWERROR WRITE $XML_RSS --> OUTPUT DO_FLUSH FLUSH xcit end\ Program output: Nothing The rss.xml file 100% exists and is readable Thanks in advance

  • Unix Piping using Fork and Dup

    - by Jacob
    Lets say within my program I want to execute two child processes, one to to execute a "ls -al" command and then pipe that into "wc" command and display the output on the terminal. How can I do this using pipe file descriptors so far the code I have written: An example would be greatly helpful int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { int pipefd[2] pipe(pipefd2); if ((fork()) == 0) { dup2(pipefd2[1],STDOUT_FILENO); close(pipefd2[0]); close(pipefd2[1]); execl("ls", "ls","-al", NULL); exit(EXIT_FAILURE); } if ((fork()) == 0){ dup2(pipefd2[0],STDIN_FILENO); close(pipefd2[0]); close(pipefd2[1]); execl("/usr/bin/wc","wc",NULL); exit(EXIT_FAILURE); } close(pipefd[0]); close(pipefd[1]); close(pipefd2[0]); close(pipefd2[1]); }

  • Errors when connecting to HTTPS using HTTP::Net routines (Ruby on Rails)

    - by jaycode
    Hi all, the code below explains the problem in detail #this returns error Net::HTTPBadResponse url = URI.parse('https://sitename.com') response = Net::HTTP.start(url.host, url.port) {|http| http.get('/remote/register_device') } #this works url = URI.parse('http://sitename.com') response = Net::HTTP.start(url.host, url.port) {|http| http.get('/remote/register_device') } #this returns error Net::HTTPBadResponse response = Net::HTTP.post_form(URI.parse('https://sitename.com/remote/register_device'), {:text => 'hello world'}) #this returns error Errno::ECONNRESET (Connection reset by peer) response = Net::HTTP.post_form(URI.parse('https://sandbox.itunes.apple.com/verifyReceipt'), {:text => 'hello world'}) #this works response = Net::HTTP.post_form(URI.parse('http://sitename.com/remote/register_device'), {:text => 'hello world'}) So... how do I send POST parameters to https://sitename.com or https://sandbox.itunes.apple.com/verifyReceipt in this example? Further information, I am trying to get this working in Rails: http://developer.apple.com/iphone/library/documentation/NetworkingInternet/Conceptual/StoreKitGuide/VerifyingStoreReceipts/VerifyingStoreReceipts.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40008267-CH104-SW1

  • Writing to Socket outputStream w/o closing it

    - by Eyal
    Hi, I'd like to write some messages to the server. Each time, for the tramsmitting only, I'm closing the outputStream and reopen it when I have to send the next message. os.write(msgBytes); os.write("\r\n".getBytes()); os.flush(); os.close(); How Can I keep this Socket's OutputStream, os, open and still be able to send the message? Thanks.

  • Why would a variable in Scala code mysteriously become null?

    - by Alex R
    I've isolated the problem down to this: Predef.println("the value of argv1 here is " + argv(1)); var n: $ = undef; n = argv(1); Predef.println("the value of argv1 here is " + argv(1)); Predef.println("the value of n here is " + n); Predef.println("the class of n here is " + n.getClass); Here's the definition of $: class $ { println("constructed a new $ of type: " + this.getClass); def value: $ = this; def toValue: Value = { new ConstStringValue(this.toString()) }; def -(sym: Symbol): $ = { println("looked up: " + sym); this } def -(sym: $): $ = { println("looked up: " + sym); this } def update(sym: Symbol, any: Any) { println("update called: " + sym + "=" + any); } def apply(sym: Symbol) = { this } def apply(obj: $) = { this } def apply() = { this } def +(o:$) = this.toValue.div(o.toValue) def *(o:$) = this.toValue.mul(o.toValue) def >(o:$) = this.toValue.gt(o.toValue) def <(o:$) = this.toValue.lt(o.toValue) def ++() = { this } def -=(o:$) = { this } } When run, the code prints: the value of argv1 here is 10 the value of argv1 here is 10 the value of n here is null java.lang.NullPointerException at test_1_php$.include(_tmp.scala:149) at php.script.main(php.scala:57) at test_1_php.main(_tmp.scala) [...] Why would n mysteriously lose its value (or fail to take one on)?

  • how to access class and its functions from another class

    - by vbNewbie
    This is my first major application using multiple classes. It is written in vb and I know about creating objects of the class and using that instance to call functions of the class. But how do I create an object with constructors to allow another program written in C# to access my classes and functions and accept things from the program. Hope this makes sense.

  • Sending series of images to display like a movie on iPhone

    - by unknownthreat
    Allow me to elaborate more. On the server, we will have a program that will take data from iPhone and process that data and produce series of images. Each time an image is generated, it will be send back to display on iPhone. I have done all of the things above using UDP, OpenGL, and such. It works. The images are transferred to iPhone and can be displayed, but it is slow. The image's resolution is around 320 x 420 and we send the image pixels by pixels. This naive implementation leads to a slow framerate. I can see around 2-3 frames per second. There are also some UDP packets dropped, and this is expected. Are there any sort of compression method available for something like this? Are there any other method that can make this better? NOTE: please don't just write "compression" as an answer, because we are aware that we will need to do it in some ways.

  • What software development process do you use and how do you implement it?

    - by clyfe
    Post only what you do use not what you would like to use, so we can see what is the most popular in real life. I am interested only in theese issues: Project Model (waterfall, agile...) How are requirements gathered (and stored)? Revision control - what software, what workflow Build automation, what software, where does it fit ? How is the testing done ? How is the documentation done ? How is the quality assurance done ? Please provide short objective answers, don't speak from the books. EXAMPLE: In my company we are a small team of 5 people and we develop webapps using ruby. agile PM cucumber requirements git SCM - Integration Manager Workflow integrity CI rspec automated tests the project lead creats the documentation skeleton then it is filled by the developers ensure quality by peer reviewing code and manual peer-testing

  • Why do I not get the correct answer for Euler 56 in J?

    - by Gregory Higley
    I've solved 84 of the Project Euler problems, mostly in Haskell. I am now going back and trying to solve in J some of those I already solved in Haskell, as an exercise in learning J. Currently, I am trying to solve Problem 56. Let me stress that I already know what the right answer is, since I've already solved it in Haskell. It's a very easy, trivial problem. I will not give the answer here. Here is my solution in J: digits =: ("."0)":"0 eachDigit =: adverb : 'u@:digits"0' NB. I use this so often I made it an adverb. cartesian =: adverb : '((#~ #) u ($~ ([:*~#)))' >./ +/ eachDigit x: ^ cartesian : i. 99 This produces a number less than the desired result. In other words, it's wrong somehow. Any J-ers out there know why? I'm baffled, since it's pretty straightforward and totally brute force.

  • How to handle activity life cycle involving sockets in Android?

    - by Henrik
    Hello all, I have an Android activity which in turn starts a thread. In the thread I open a persistent TCP socket connection. When the socket connects to the server dynamic data is downloaded. The thread sends messages using Handler-class to the activity when data has been received. Now if the user happens to switch from portrait to landscape mode the activity gets an onDestroy call. At this moment I close the socket and stop the thread. When Android has switched landscape mode it calls onCreate yet again and I have to do a socket re-connect. Also, all of the data the activity received needs to be downloaded once more because the server does not have the ability to know what has been sent before, i.e. there is no "resume" feature. Thus the problem is that there is alot of data which is resent all the time when landscape mode is changed. What are my options here? Should I create a service which handles the socket traffic towards the server thus I always got all the data which the server has sent in the service. Or should I disable landscape mode all together perhaps? Or would my best bet be to rewrite my server which is a VERY BIG job :-) All input is welcome :-) / Henrik

  • Difference between 'scope' and 'namespace'?

    - by katriel
    What is the difference, in general, between the concepts of namespaces and scope? To my understanding, both describe the parts of a program in which a variable/object/method/function will be accessible. I understand that 'scope' tends to be a property of the variable (e.g., "This variable has global scope"), while a 'namespace' is a property of the program (e.g., "A Python function creates a local namespace"). Are there other differences? Global scope vs global namespace addresses a slightly narrower question: global namespaces in C++. http://www.alan-g.me.uk/tutor/tutname.htm states, There are a few very subtle differences between the terms but only a Computer Scientist pedant would argue with you, and for our purposes namespace and scope are identical. What are those subtle differences? Under what circumstances or with which kinds of languages do people use each concept?

  • Using Unix Process Controll Methods in Ruby

    - by John F. Miller
    Ryan Tomayko touched off quite a fire storm with this post about using Unix process control commands. We should be doing more of this. A lot more of this. I'm talking about fork(2), execve(2), pipe(2), socketpair(2), select(2), kill(2), sigaction(2), and so on and so forth. These are our friends. They want so badly just to help us. I have a bit of code (a delayed_job clone for DataMapper that I think would fit right in with this, but I'm not clear on how to take advantage of the listed commands. Any Ideas on how to improve this code? def start say "*** Starting job worker #{@name}" t = Thread.new do loop do delay = Update.work_off(self) break if $exit sleep delay break if $exit end clear_locks end trap('TERM') { terminate_with t } trap('INT') { terminate_with t } trap('USR1') do say "Wakeup Signal Caught" t.run end end

  • Abstracting boxed array structures in J

    - by estanford
    I've been working on a J function for a while, that's supposed to scan a list and put consecutive copies of an element into separate, concatenated boxes. My efforts have taken me as far as the function (<;. 2) ((2&(~:/\)),1:) which tests successive list entries for inequality, returns a list of boolean values, and cuts the list into boxes that end each time the number 1 appears. Here's an example application: (<;. 2) ((2&(~:/\)),1:) 1 2 3 3 3 4 1 1 1 +-+-+-----+-+-----+ |1|1|0 0 1|1|0 0 1| +-+-+-----+-+-----+ The task would be finished if I could then replace all those booleans with their corresponding values in the input argument. I've been looking for some kind of mystery function that would let me do something like final =: mysteryfunction @ (<;. 2) ((2&(~:/\)),1:) final 1 2 3 3 3 4 1 1 1 +-+-+-----+-+-----+ |1|2|3 3 3|4|1 1 1| +-+-+-----+-+-----+ In an ideal situation, there would be some way to abstractly represent the nesting pattern generated by (<;. 2) ((2&(~:/\)),1:) to the original input list. (i.e. "This boxed array over here has the first element boxed at depth one, the second element boxed at depth one, the third, fourth, and fifth elements boxed together at depth one,..., so take that unboxed list over there and box it up the same way.") I tried fooling around with ;. , S: , L:, L. and &. to produce that behavior, but I haven't had much luck. Is there some kind of operator or principle I'm missing that could make this happen? It wouldn't surprise me if I were overthinking the whole issue, but I'm running out of ideas.

    I'm trying to use Jquery's each loop to go through this Json and add it to a div named #contentHere. The Json is as follows: { "justIn": [ { "textId": "123", "text": "Hello", "textType": "Greeting" }, { "textId": "514", "text":"What's up?", "textType": "Question" }, { "textId": "122", "text":"Come over here", "textType": "Order" } ], "recent": [ { "textId": "1255", "text": "Hello", "textType": "Greeting" }, { "textId": "6564", "text":"What's up?", "textType": "Question" }, { "textId": "0192", "text":"Come over here", "textType": "Order" } ], "old": [ { "textId": "5213", "text": "Hello", "textType": "Greeting" }, { "textId": "9758", "text":"What's up?", "textType": "Question" }, { "textId": "7655", "text":"Come over here", "textType": "Order" } ] } I'm getting this Json through use of this code: $.get("data.php", function(data){ }) Any solutions?

  • What is a monad?

    - by kronoz

  • How do I program hardware?

    - by Arlen Beiler
    What would I need to program a piece of hardware to do something for me? Let's say I have something with 15 relays (or equivalent) and I want to tell it to turn off relay 10. Or better yet, when sensor 10 is activated, toggle relay 10.

  • Ruby: intelligent patch/update

    - by Shyam
    Hi, After being blown away by the greatness of irb and rails console, I am loving the dynamical parts of the language more and more. Now, I wonder if it would be possible for a Ruby application to update itself on-the-fly (if the write permission allows it). Can a Ruby application fetch an update and refresh itself? I have seen this functionality a lot in Apple applications and I know updates and fixes are something you must anticipate for when deploying an application. Thank you for your feedback, comments and answers!

  • Naming Suggestions For A Function Providing Chaining In A Different Way

    - by sid3k
    I've coded an experimental function which makes passed objects chainable by using high order functions. It's name is "chain" for now, and here is a usage example; chain("Hello World") (print) // evaluates print function by passing "Hello World" object. (console.log,"Optional","Parameters") (returnfrom) // returns "Hello World" It looks lispy but behaves very different since it's coded in a C based language, I don't know if there is a name for this idiom and I couldn't any name more suitable than "chain". Any ideas, suggestions?
