    I'm trying to use Nicolas Gallagher's brilliant CSS work on applying CSS drop-shadows to elements without images and without extra markup using the :before and :after pseudo-elements. When the user clicks on the smaller image in the post, it opens up a new tab with the fullsize view of the image (I'm sure you're already familiar with this if you use Wordpress). For some reason, I can't get his code to work, and I'm wondering if I'm targeting this wrong within my CSS. Can you help? In place of the .drop-shadow class that he uses, I'm target all images wrapped with an a tag within the #main-i div. So, like this... #main-i a img Does anyone know how to target it better than I have so that I can get the drop shadows to be applied for all images within the specified div? Thanks for your help!   • C/GCC - Is it possible to sort arrays using preprocessor?

    I have a number of very long arrays. No run-time sort is possible. It is also time consuming to sort them manually. Moreover, new elements can be added in any order later, so I would like to sort them by value using C preprocessor or maybe there is any compilers flag (GCC)? For example: sometype S[] = { {somevals, "BOB", someothervals}, {somevals, "ALICE", someothervals}, {somevals, "TIM", someothervals}, } must be sorted so: sometype S[] = { {somevals, "ALICE", someothervals}, {somevals, "BOB", someothervals}, {somevals, "TIM", someothervals}, }

    I need a regex or a function in PHP that will validate a string to be a good XML element name. Form w3schools: XML elements must follow these naming rules: Names can contain letters, numbers, and other characters Names cannot start with a number or punctuation character Names cannot start with the letters xml (or XML, or Xml, etc) Names cannot contain spaces I can write a basic regex that will check for rules 1,2 and 4, but it won't account for all punctuation allowed and won't account for 3rd rule \w[\w0-9-]

    I have a couple of list views, one uses TextViews laid out with xml, the other uses a custom class derived from View. The default halloween color scheme is pretty ugly.     Hi, I have an array: $arr = array('foo', 'bar', 'bash', 'monkey', 'badger'); I want to have the elements in that array appear as the variables in my list(): list($foo, $bar, $bash, $monkey, $badger) = $data; Without actually specifying the variables, I tried; list(implode(",$", $arr)) = $data; and list(extract($arr)) = $data; But they don't work, I get: Fatal error: Can't use function return value in write context Does anyone have any idea whether this is possible?   • XPathNavigator in Silverlight

    I have a code library that makes heavy use of XPathNavigator to parse some specific xml document. The xml document is cross-referenced, meaning that an element can reference another which has not yet been encountered during parsing: <ElementA ...> <DependentElementX id="1234"> </ElementA> <ElementX id="1234" .../> The document doesn't really look like this, but the point is that 1) there is an xml schema that enforces the overall document structure, 2) elements inside the document can reference each other using some IDs, and 3) there is quite a few such cross references between different elements in the document. The document is parsed in two phases. In the first pass I walk through the document XPathDocument doc = ...; XPathNavigator nav = doc.CreateNavigator(); nav.MoveToRoot(); nav.MoveToFirstChild()... and occasionally 'bookmark' the current position (element) in the document using XPathNavigator.Clone() method. This gives me a lightweight instance of an XPathNavigator which I can store somewhere and use later to jump back to a particular place (element) in my document. Once I have enough information collected in the first pass (for example, I have made sure there is indeed an ElementX with an id='1234'), I jump back to saved bookmarks (using those saved XPathNavigators) and complete the parsing. Well, now I'm about to use this library in Silverlight 3.0 and to my horror the XPathNavigator is not in the System.Xml assembly. Questions: 1) Am I missing something obvious (i.e. XPathNavigator does exist in some shape or form, for example in a toolkit or a freeware library)? 2) If I do have to make modifications in the code, what would be the best way to go? Ideally, I would like to make minimal changes, not to rewrite 80% of the code just to be able to use something like XLinq. To resume, in case I have to give up XPathNavigator, all I need is a way to bookmark places in my document and to get back to them so that I can continue to iterate from where I left off.   • ASP.Net JSON Web Service Post Form Data

    I have a ASP.NET web service decorated with System.Web.Script.Services.ScriptService() so it can return json formatted data. This much is working for me, but ASP.Net has a requirement that parameters to the web service must be in json in order to get json out. I'm using jquery to run my ajax calls and there doesn't seem to be an easy way to create a nice javascript object from the form elements. I have looked at serialiseArray in the json2 library but it doesn't encode the field names as property name in the object. If you have 2 form elements like this <input type="text" name="namefirst" id="namefirst" value="John"/> <input type="text" name="namelast" id="namelast" value="Doe"/> calling $("form").serialize() will get you the standard query string namefirst=John&namelast=Doe calling JSON.stringify($("form").serializeArray()) will get you the (bulky) json representation [{"name":"namefirst","value":"John"},{"name":"namelast","value":"Doe"}] This will work when passing to the web service but its ugly as you have to have code like this to read it in: Public Class NameValuePair Public name As String Public value As String End Class <WebMethod()> _ Public Function GetQuote(ByVal nvp As NameValuePair()) As String End Function You would also have to wrap that json text inside another object nameed nvp to make the web service happy. Then its more work as all you have is an array of NameValuePair when you want an associative array. I might be kidding myself but i imagined something more elegant when i started this project - more like this Public Class Person Public namefirst As String Public namelast As String End Class which would require the json to look something like this: {"namefirst":"John","namelast":"Doe"} Is there an easy way to do this? Obviously it is simple for a form with two parameters but when you have a very large form concatenating strings gets ugly. Having nested objects would also complicate things The cludge I have settled on for the moment is to use the standard name value pair format stuffed inside a json object. This is compact and fast {"q":"namefirst=John&namelast=Doe"} then have a web method like this on the server that parses the query string into an associate array. <WebMethod()> _ Public Function AjaxForm(ByVal q As String) as string Dim params As NameValueCollection = HttpUtility.ParseQueryString(q) 'do stuff return "Hello" End Sub As far a cludges go this one seems reasonably elegant in terms of amount of code, but my question is: is there a better way? Is there a generally accepted way of passing form data to asp.net web/script services?

  • Binding to a collection of DependencyObjects in Silverlight 4

    As of Silverlight 4 it is possible to data bind against a DependencyObject (instead of a Framework element in previous versions). So far so good, but how do I bind agains a collection of DependencyObjects. The DataContext is not passed from the ObservableCollection to the collection elements, so that the DependencyProperties of the DependencyObjects are never called (neither the changed events). Neither the DependencyObject offers SetBinding or DataContext to initialize the binding manually. Thanks for any advice here.

    I am using maven to generate a website for a Java project, which uses APT "Almost Plain Text" as a wiki like markup. Maven takes this and turns it into XHTML. I already have a custom template/skin that I am using for the site, but the index page will have a couple of extra custom design elements that are beyond the capabilities of APT. So how can you add xhtml to the apt file so that it gets correctly embedded in the final output? Thanks.

I know the easiest thing is to use VSTO, but its slow and would involve clipboard use to insert elements, the OXML sdk is direct and simpler. Say function(args) returns an array. Why is $var = function(args)[0]; yelling at me about the square brackets? Can I do something like $var = function(args).value(0); or am I missing something very basic?
