• Jersey non blocking client

  Although Jersey already have support for making asynchronous requests, it is implemented by standard blocking way - every asynchronous request is handled by one thread and that thread is released only after request is completely processed. That is OK for lots of cases, but imagine how that will work when you need to do lots of parallel requests. Of course you can limit (and its really wise thing to do, you do want control your resources) number of threads used for asynchronous requests, but you'll get another maybe not pleasant consequence - obviously processing time will incerase. There are few projects which are trying to deal with that problem, commonly named as async http clients. I didn't want to "re-implement a wheel" and I decided I'll use AHC - Async Http Client made by Jeanfrancois Arcand. There is also interesting implementation from Apache - HttpAsyncClient, but it is still in "very early stages of development" and others haven't been in similar or better shape as AHC. How this works? Non-blocking clients allow users to make same asynchronous requests as we can do with standard approach but implementation is different - threads are better utilized, they don't spend most of time in idle state. Simply described - when you make a request (send it over the network), you are waiting for reply from other side. And there comes main advantage of non-blocking approach - it uses these threads for further work, like making other requests or processing responses etc.. Idle time is minimized and your resources (threads) will be far better used. Who should consider using this? Everyone who is making lots of asynchronous requests. I haven't done proper benchmark yet, but some simple dumb tests are showing huge improvement in cases where lots of concurrent asynchronous requests are made in short period. • Ubuntu Won't Load Up

  I'm having trouble with Ubuntu. It was working fine on Weds 24/08/12. Fired up my laptop yesterday and came up with the Grub screen. What I basically want to know is how do I get back to normal service? I'm pretty illiterate when it comes to Ubuntu/Linux systems. I think I'm running the latest version of Ubuntu. Currently using the 11.10 trial which I burnt to disc to use my laptop at the minute to post this question. This is the first screen I get come up. 'http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v419/R1187/20121025_173033.jpg' Following the first option it just takes me to a black screen with a flashing underscore. Pretty sure it doesn't allow me to enter any text. When I follow the second option I get this screen: I've tried following the advice on this question, but it hasn't done the trick. It keeps asking me if it's mounted. Any help will be appreciated. Ideally I'd like to get things back to normal. Failing that copying my data from the hard drive to an external one and reinstalling Ubuntu would be fine.

• computer and User Account Migrated using ADMT but not sending mail

  I have successfully migrated a User and Computer account using ADMT. The user is able to login to the computer with the new account and is able to open outlook receive mail but is not able to send internal or external mail. The Exchange server is still in the Old domain. The bounce back message received was that the user doesn't have permissions to send to the recipient. When I migrated the user I did migrate the SID history so why is mail not being about to be sent? The body of the bounce back message is as follows: Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients. Subject: test Sent: 1/6/2010 4:17 PM The following recipient(s) could not be reached: User, user on 1/6/2010 4:17 PM You do not have permission to send to this recipient. • iPod Nano 5th gen Album Artwork

  I am an album artwork fan. I just got all of these brand new alternate artwork covers for my albums and singles. Eventually, i got bored of them, and i wanted the original ones back. So i got on iTunes, and changed the original album covers to the primary covers. I synced my ipod, but it still showed the new covers on it, not the originals. I figured a temporary way to fix it, by deleting the new covers i got, making the originals the default. There has to be an easier way, though. p.s. this also works in vice-versa. I will add the new covers, but before i exit, i change the primary cover to the original. When i change it back to the new one, my iPod will still only show the original Thanks for helping!

• What would cause the "gi" module to be missing from python?

  After some not so clever editing of the default Python version in Ubuntu, from 2.7 to 3.2, I ended up breaking my entire system. After my computer imploded and everything stopped working, I tried to revert back my changes (by linking /usr/bin/python2.7 to /usr/bin/python and changing the default version in /usr/share/python/debian_defaults back to 2.7) but some things are still broken. For example when I type "import gi" in the python interpreter I get the fallowing message : >>> import gi Traceback (most recent call last): File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module> ImportError: No module named gi >>> error which appears with some programs too (eg: gnome tweak tool). I have tried re-installing python both from the software center and from sources, but the same error persists. Python -- version now returns : Python 2.7.2 and also some software packages which depend on python 2.7 are now working (for example the software center), but some things are still broken. Is there anything I can do to completely re-install python 2.7 as the default version?

• Windows data backups with alternating removable drives?

  0 vote down star I have a removable disk drive (RD1000 from Dell), and I am looking for backup software that will allow me to backup every night, and every morning switch to the alternate disk. There is only one directory structure to back up, what I want is two copies, one which I will take home with me every night, one which will be backing up every night, and when I get in in the morning, I will switch them. So for instance I have disk "a" and disk "b". On Monday night I want to go home with disk "a" and leave disk "b" in the drive, so that a scheduled back up will be written to it. On Tuesday morning I will come in and swap disks, and I will take "b" home that night, leaving "a" for the backup. And so on for the remainder of the week. FOSS software preferred, Freeware acceptable, paid software as a last-ditch effort. Oh, btw I'm stuck with Windows 2000 Thanks in advance.

• How to create a virtual audio device and stream audio input with it

  Is it possible to create another audio device and redirect only wanted input streams to it? Here's my concrete problem: I am broadcasting a game via XFire and it uses the Windows audio device to capture any audio I receive. As I am broadcasting, other users who watch the video stream are communicating with me over Skype, and they hear themselves back within the video stream and it is entirely logical since I am broadcasting the audio I hear. What I want to do is create another audio device within Windows and redirect (pipe) ONLY the audio input from that game and not the input reveived from Skype. I would then tell XFire to use that newly created "virtual" audio device to broadcast and therefore my partners won't hear themselves back. Is there any software that can do that or can it be achieved natively with Windows? (I am under Windows 7).

• How to recover Virtual Machines in Virtualbox?

  For some reason, all of a sudden, all virtual machines are gone from the User Interface in virtual box. I suspect CCleaner has something to do with it, but that's not the point. Both the virtual hardisks and the .xml files for the machines are still in their respective folders. How can I use them to get my virtual machines back into virtualbox? I tried simply creating a new machine from the old virtual hardisks, and it worked with the ubuntu guest, but not with the windows one. Plus, it'd be nice to get my old machines back instead of having to create new ones, that would keep me from having to fix some shortcuts as well as reconfigure shared folders and other stuff. • MIX 2010 Covert Operations Day 4

  The Microsoft Azure Cloud is looking pretty solid compared to just a few months ago.  The storage mechanisms in the cloud now are blobs, drives, tables, and queues.  Also, not to forget, is SQL Azure.  I won’t dive too much into that, as most will know what SQL Server is, and SQL Azure is pretty much just a hosted SQL Server instance. The blobs are generally geared toward holding binary type data, images and those types of things.  The tables are huge key value type stores.  The drives are VHD, which are virtual hard drives.  The queues are just queues used for workflow and also to store messages back and forth in a queue. These methods are accessible via REST, which makes application development against the storage services extremely easy.  This is a big plus point as REST services are a preferred way to connect and interact with data storage.  It also sets up Silverlight as a prime framework to utilize services. Day 4 I pretty much dedicated to reviewing these cloud services and finishing up work related development.  With that, I'm wrapping up my MIX 2010 blog coverage.  Now back to your regularly scheduled programming. • Looking for a free/cheap backup solution on OSX for NTFS external HDD [closed]

  Hi, I'm looking for an incremental backup system on OSX that plays nice with USB NTFS-formatted external HDDs. I an currently using NTFS-3G (http://macntfs-3g.blogspot.com/) to work with the HDD, but since Time Machine doesn't work with NTFS drives, I have just been manually copying files from my HDD to back it up (ugh). I need to use an NTFS drive because I am going back and forth between Windows machines at my school and a mac at home. I have no permissions at my school to install any Windows software, so I am forced to find a OSX solution. Please -- any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

• Ethernet card not detected on Ubuntu Server 12.04

  My onboard ethernet isn't detected after a re-install of Server 12.04. For reasons I won't get into here, I had to put the server's drive into another machine to install Ubuntu, then swap back into the server. So the server starts up fine, except for the "Waiting for network configuration". I read in another article that Server, by default, doesn't handle new mac addresses for hardware changes dynamically, unlike Ubuntu Desktop, but a look at /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules shows only one ethernet interface. Shouldn't it show both the old, and the new? lspci -vv shows an ethernet interface, so what the heck is going on? I should mention that the onboard LAN is enabled in the BIOS. And I know this isn't important, but all this started when I changed some network configuration settings in webmin before the re-install. It couldn't download any updates, so I tinkered a little. Broke, it, installed FreeNAS, which worked, but I didn't like it, then went back to Ubuntu Server, and now I'm in this pickle. Thanks for any advice!

• Some apps very slow to load on Windows 7, copy & paste very slow.

  Hello, I searched here and couldn't find a similar issue to mine but apologies if I missed it. I've searched the web and no one else seems to be having the same issue either. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit on a pretty high spec. machine (well, apart from the graphics): Asus M4A79T Deluxe AMD Phenom II 965 black edition (quad core, 3.4GHz) 8GB Crucial Ballistix DDR 1333MHz RAM 80GB Intex X25 SSD for OS 500GB mechanical drive for data. ATi Radeon HD 4600 series PCI-e Be Quiet! 850W PSU I think those are all the relevant stats, if you need anything else let me know. I've updated chipset, graphics and various other drivers all to no avail, the problem remains. I have also unplugged and replugged every connection internally and cleaned the RAM edge connectors. The problems: Video LAN (VLC) and CDBurnerXP both take ages to load, I'm talking 30 seconds and 1 minute respectively which is really not right. Copy and paste from Open Office spread sheet into Fire Fox, for example, is really, really slow, I'll have pressed control V 5 or 6 times before it actually happens, if I copy and then wait 5 to 10 seconds or so it'll paste first time so it's definitely some sort of time lag. Command and Conquer - Generals: Zero Hour. When playing it'll run perfectly for about 10 or 20 seconds then it'll just pause for 3 or 4 then run for another 10 or 20 seconds and pause again and so on. I had the Task Manager open on my 2nd monitor whilst playing once and I noticed it was using about 25% of the CPU, pretty stable but when the pause came another task didn't shoot up to 100% like others on the web have been reporting (similar but not the same as my issue, often svchost.exe for them) but dropped to 2 or 3% usage then back up to 25% when it started playing properly again. Very odd! But it gets even odder... I had a BSOD and reboot last week, when it rebooted the problem had completely gone, I could play C&C to my heart's content and both the other apps loaded instantly, copy and paste worked instantly too. I did an AVG update earlier this week which required a reboot, rebooted and the problem's back. I don't think it's AVG related though, I think it was just coincidence that's the app that required a reboot. I think any reboot would have brought the issue back. A number of reboots later and it hasn't gone away again. If any one could make any suggestions as to the likely cause and solution to these issues I'd be most grateful, it's driving me nuts! • 802.11n Audio Interference

  Symptoms My audio is riddled with pops/crackles/glitches. Sometimes I swear the glitches sound exactly like the facebook messenger sound (best comparison I can give). Cause Using DPC Latency Checker, it reports the latency to be an abysmal 17,500µs (0.0175s). The first thing I did was disable my 802.11n wireless adapter. This immediately dropped the latency to a nice 250µs. When I re-enabled the adapter, it jumped right back up. I'm 99% certain that this is the cause of my audio glitches. Solution What can I do about it besides using wired Ethernet or buying a whole new adapter? My adapter is a Dell Wireless 1505 Draft 802.11n WLAN Mini-Card. To be honest, I've had nothing but trouble with the 802.11n standard and am contemplating just going back to g.

• What Counts For a DBA – Decisions

  It’s Friday afternoon, and the lead DBA, a very talented guy, is getting ready to head out for two well-earned weeks of vacation, with his family, when this error message pops up in his inbox: Msg 211, Level 23, State 51, Line 1. Possible schema corruption. Run DBCC CHECKCATALOG. His heart sinks. It’s ten…no eight…minutes till it’s time to walk out the door. He glances around at his coworkers, competent to handle many problems, but probably not up to the challenge of fixing possible database corruption. What does he do? After a few agonizing moments of indecision, he clicks shut his laptop. He’ll just wait and see. It was unlikely to come to anything; after all, it did say “possible” schema corruption, not definite. In that moment, his fate was sealed. The start of the solution to the problem (run DBCC CHECKCATALOG) had been right there in the error message. Had he done this, or at least took two of those eight minutes to delegate the task to a coworker, then he wouldn’t have ended up spending two-thirds of an idyllic vacation (for the rest of the family, at least) dealing with a problem that got consistently worse as the weekend progressed until the entire system was down. When I told this story to a friend of mine, an opera fan, he smiled and said it described the basic plotline of almost every opera or ‘Greek Tragedy’ ever written. The particular joy in opera, he told me, isn’t the warbly voiced leading ladies, or the plump middle-aged romantic leads, or even the music. No, what packs the opera houses in Italy is the drama of characters who, by the very nature of their life-experiences and emotional baggage, make all sorts of bad choices when faced with ordinary decisions, and so move inexorably to their fate. The audience is gripped by the spectacle of exotic characters doomed by their inability to see the obvious. I confess, my personal experience with opera is limited to Bugs Bunny in “What’s Opera, Doc?” (Elmer Fudd is a great example of a bad decision maker, if ever one existed), but I was struck by my friend’s analogy. If all the DBA cubicles were a stage, I think we would hear many similarly tragic tales, played out to music: “Error handling? We write our code to never experience errors, so nah…“ “Backups failed today, but it’s okay, we’ll back up tomorrow (we’ll back up tomorrow)“ And similarly, they would leave their audience gasping, not necessarily at the beauty of the music, or poetry of the lyrics, but at the inevitable, grisly fate of the protagonists. If you choose not to use proper error handling, or if you choose to skip a backup because, hey, you haven’t had a server crash in 10 years, then inevitably, in that moment you expected to be enjoying a vacation, or a football game, with your family and friends, you will instead be sitting in front of a computer screen, paying for your poor choices. Tragedies are very much part of IT. Most of a DBA’s day to day work has limited potential to wreak havoc; paperwork, timesheets, random anonymous threats to developers, routine maintenance and whatnot. However, just occasionally, you, as a DBA, will face one of those decisions that really matter, and which has the possibility to greatly affect your future and the future of your user’s data. Make those decisions count, and you’ll avoid the tragic fate of many an operatic hero or villain.

• How to recover deleted files?

  Hi My laptop has two os. one is windows vista. and other is Ubuntu. I am currently on ubuntu system, this is my primary OS. There are 4 partitions of my hard disk Windows OS Linux(Ubuntu OS) Data Now the problem part. The data partition is NTFS. I have mounted this partition on the location /media/windrive-a under ubuntu OS. A little while back i decided to delete the mounting of the data partition and i fired command rm -r /media/windrive-a/. To give me a shock; all my data on data drive is gone. Now, I know this is not the command to remove mounted partition. But I have committed the wrong. Is there any way i can get my data back. These are very important data for me. Please suggest.

• Functional Methods on Collections

  I'm learning Scala and am a little bewildered by all the methods (higher-order functions) available on the collections. Which ones produce more results than the original collection, which ones produce less, and which are most appropriate for a given problem? Though I'm studying Scala, I think this would pertain to most modern functional languages (Clojure, Haskell) and also to Java 8 which introduces these methods on Java collections. Specifically, right now I'm wondering about map with filter vs. fold/reduce. I was delighted that using foldRight() can yield the same result as a map(...).filter(...) with only one traversal of the underlying collection. But a friend pointed out that foldRight() may force sequential processing while map() is friendlier to being processed by multiple processors in parallel. Maybe this is why mapReduce() is so popular? More generally, I'm still sometimes surprised when I chain several of these methods together to get back a List(List()) or to pass a List(List()) and get back just a List(). For instance, when would I use: collection.map(a => a.map(b => ...)) vs. collection.map(a => ...).map(b => ...) The for/yield command does nothing to help this confusion. Am I asking about the difference between a "fold" and "unfold" operation? Am I trying to jam too many questions into one? I think there may be an underlying concept that, if I understood it, might answer all these questions, or at least tie the answers together.

• Spinup time failure

  I am not sure this is a real question or a bug I should report Ubuntu. Using: Ubuntu 11.10, on a Intel Q6600, Samsung Spinpoint F4 2TB. I have set my PC on Suspend and after I came back, pressed Enter and after logging in everything was back to normal. However, I had a message from Disk Utility that one disk reports errors. I entered Disk Utility, and my Samsung 2TB disk, the one on which my Ubuntu is installed, had the SMART Status turned red, with error message on it. The error was: Spinup time failed Value 21, Threshold value was 25 (so the error was reported because 21 < 25) I restarted and booted up in Windows to see what HD Tune is reporting. Unfortunately it was exactly the same 21/25. After reading up on Wiki about SMART and the errors, I discovered that Spinup time is the time required for the disk to reach full spinning speed in milliseconds. Then it hit me that, in Ubuntu I had Suspended the system, making essentially all my hardware stop. And when I rebooted to Windows, the hardware doesn't really stop, so SMART's reading of the Spinup time was still from Ubuntu's suspension. So I did a full PC stop and then booted up again, both in Ubuntu and Windows to see if there are different readings. Both reported successful Spinup time, 68 (a little better then 21 :) ), although in Disk Utility I have a nice message: Failed in the Past So now I am pretty sure that Ubuntu didn't handle the Suspend correctly, but then again should I worry about Imminent hardware failure ? Am I missing some drivers? Should I report this as a bug to Ubuntu? Sorry if this was a bad place to ask this question.

• Strategy for restoring state via URL in web apps

  This is a question about modern web apps, where a single page is loaded, and all subsequent navigation is done by XHR calls and modifying the DOM. We can use libraries that manipulate the hash string, which let us navigate by URL and support the back/forward buttons. But to use those libraries, we need to be able to move the UI from any one state to any other. Is there a good strategy for moving between UI states, that also allows them to be restored from scratch when you load a new URL? In a complex app, you might have a lot of different states. You don't want to reload the entire UI each time you change states. But you also don't want to require separate methods for moving from every state to each every state. Typically we need to: Restore a state from scratch, when you enter a new URL or hit Reload. Move from one state to another, when you use the Back/Forward buttons. Move from one state to another, when you perform an action within your app (like clicking a link). Move to certain states that shouldn't be added to the history, like ones that appear after form submissions. Move to some states that are built on the previous state, like a drill-down list. When you perform actions within your app, there's the additional question of which comes first: Do you change the URL, listen for the URL change, and change your state in response to it? Or do you change your state, then change the URL, but don't do anything in response? Does anyone have some experience to share on this topic?

• Page_BlockSubmit - reset it to False, if there is a scenario when page doesn't postback on validation error

  Recently, I was facing a problem where if there was a validation error, and if I changed the state of checkbox it won't postback on first attempt. But when I uncheck and check again , it postbacks on second attempt...this is some quirky behaviour in .ASP.Net platform. The solution was to reset Page_BlockSubmit flag to false and it works fine. The following explanation is from http://lionsden.co.il/codeden/?p=137&cpage=1#comment-143   Submit button on the page is a member of vgMain, so automatically it will only run the validation on that group. A solution is needed that will run validation on multiple groups and block the postback if needed. Solution Include the following function on the page: function DoValidation() { //validate the primary group var validated = Page_ClientValidate('vgPrimary ');   //if it is valid if (validated) { //valid the main group validated = Page_ClientValidate('vgMain'); }   //remove the flag to block the submit if it was raised Page_BlockSubmit = false;   //return the results return validated; } Call the above function from the submit button’s OnClientClick event. <asp:Button runat="server" ID="btnSubmit" CausesValidation="true" ValidationGroup="vgMain" Text="Next" OnClick="btnSubmit_Click" OnClientClick="return DoValidation();" /> What is Page_BlockSubmit When the user clicks on a button causing a full post back, after running Page_ClientValidate ASP.NET runs another built in function ValidatorCommonOnSubmit. Within Page_ClientValidate, Page_BlockSubmit is set based on the validation. The postback is then blocked in ValidatorCommonOnSubmit if Page_BlockSubmit is true. No matter what, at the end of the function Page_BlockSubmit is always reset back to false. If a page does a partial postback without running any validation and Page_BlockSubmit has not been reset to false, the partial postback will be blocked. In essence the above function, RunValidation, acts similar to ValidatorCommonOnSubmit. It runs the validation and then returns false to block the postback if needed. Since the built in postback is never run, we need to reset Page_BlockSubmit manually before returning the validation result.

• Windows 8&ndash;Custom WinRT components and WinJS

  Wow, I’m still alive! I installed the RTM of Windows 8 when it became available, and in the last few days have started taking a look at writing a windows 8 app using HTML/JS, which in and of itself is a weird thing. I don’t think that windows developers of 10 years ago would’ve thought something like this would have ever come about. As I was working on this, I ran across a problem, found the solution, and thought I’d blog about it to try and kick start me back into blogging. I already answered my own question on Stack Overflow, but will explain here. I needed to create a custom WinRT component to do some stuff that I either wouldn’t be able to or didn’t know how to do with the javascript libraries available to me. I had a javascript class defined like this: WinJS.Namespace.define("MyApp", { MyClass: WinJS.Class.define(function() { //constructor function }, { /*instance members*/ }, { /*static members*/ }) }); This gives me an object I can access in javascript: var foo = new MyApp.MyClass(); I created my WinRT component like this: namespace MyApp { public sealed class SomeClass { public int SomeMethod() { return 42; } } }   With the thought that from my javascript, I’d be able to do this: var foo = new MyApp.MyClass(); var bar = new MyApp.SomeClass(); //from WinRT component foo.SomeProperty = bar.SomeMethod();   When I tried this, I got the following error when trying to construct MyApp.MyClass (the object defined in Javascript) 0x800a01bd - Javascript runtime error: Object doesn't support this action. I puzzled for a bit, then noticed while debugging that my “MyApp” namespace didn’t have anything in it other than the WinRT component. I changed my WinRT component to this: namespace MyAppUtils { public sealed class SomeClass { //etc } } And after this, everything was fine. So, lesson learned: If you’re using Javascript and create a custom WinRT component, make sure that the WinRT component is in a namespace all its own. Not sure why this happens, and if I find out why or if MS says something about this somewhere, I’ll come back and update this.

The solution must be standard query, means no using as any native code like TOP clause, also the query should run in SQL Server 2000 (no CTE use). We have a table with consecutive keys (nbr) that is not exact sequence. We need bringing all values related with nearest key in the current key row. His response to that started to get nasty.  I have to say Peso 2 is not acceptable. As I said before the solution must be standard, ORDER BY is not part of standard SELECT. Try this without ORDER BY:  Truncate Table Nums INSERT INTO Nums (nbr, val) VALUES (1, 0),(9,4), (5, 7)  So now we have new rules. No ORDER BY because it's not standard SQL! Of course I asked him  Why do you have that idea? ORDER BY is not standard? Now the stalker gets rude  But however I mean the solution must no containing any order by, top... No problem, I do not like Peso 2, it’s very non-intelligent and elementary. Yes, Peso 2 is elementary but most performing queries are... And now is the time where I started to feel the stalker really wanted to achieve something else, so I wrote to him So what is your goal? Have a query that performs well, or a query that is super-portable? My Peso 2 outperforms any of your code with a factor of 100 when using more than 100,000 rows. • http proxy caching headers

  I have a service for which I'm about to upgrade the authentication. However, I'm trying to ensure that I make the right decision about where the encryption algorithms occur. I currently have two options: option 1) the authentication module is deployed to the client as a javascript library over https and executes client-side, so that the client can POST back an encrypted string. option 2) the authentication module is kept server-side so that the client need only POST back an unencrypted string. I know that many http proxies cache/log the query-string (and therefore any query parameters), but does anyone know of any http proxies that cache the headers as well? If the headers are being cached, then I'll clearly want to encrypt the password inside the SSL encryption, because to my understanding the headers of an HTTPS request may not always be encrypted (depending on the capabilities of the browser etcetera). Can anyone shed any light on the caching of headers by http proxies? Do you have one that does, or know of one that does?

• Windows Server 2008 R2 slows internet speed

  I just installed Windows Server 2008 R2 as my main file server on my home network. I've noticed that often times when I start my day my internet connection speed is slow. I'll go to Speakeasy speed test and it'll be at about 25% of its normal speed. When I restart my Server 2008 machine it increases back to normal. It will stay normal until Server 2008 has been running for a while. Any ideas? Edit: I had installed Collabnet Subversion within the past week which installs/sets up some other stuff for web access, I just uninstalled it. I'll report back tomorrow if that fixed my problem.

• How do I figure out what is changing the userWorkstations attribute in Active Directory?

  I just took over the IT for a medium sized business with a three domain controllers (2003/2008 Standard) and whenever I create a new user, after some time the user account cannot log into most machines on the network. I have traced this back to the "Log On To..." area becoming populated with a small list of machines. Even when I set the option to all computers, this list comes back after some time. I started hunting for vbs and ps1 scripts with the word "workstations" in them on all domain controllers to see if there is some kind of script to blame, but I have thus far come up empty handed. Is there a known software suite that can cause this (Microsoft Forefront, etc)? How can I figure out what is causing this list to change?
