  • Photoshop - How to create master/detail pages?

    I am skinning up a website and other things in Photoshop but I am finding the PSD taking a very long time to load/save and I'm wanting to split the PSD file into several files. I've done this, but sometimes I need to adjust one thing and I have to change every PSD file so that the entire project is consistent. Ideally, I'd like to be able to create a master/detail (or a template) structure using Photoshop. What is the best way to achieve this goal? Thanks

  • opening adobe reader results in infinite explorer.exe process creation loop

    First, apologies if the answer to this is only a Google away. I tried, honest I did. But I wasn't able to find anything about this problem posted elsewhere. I'm using Adobe Reader v9.3.2 in Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. If you want more system details, then just request them. What happens is that when I attempt to open a PDF by clicking "Open" on it then (1) adobe reader never opens and (2) the explorer.exe program is (apparently) recursively opened. I base this on opening the Task Manager and seeing a long list of explorer.exe processes under the "Processes" tab. Usually there is only one. When I recreate this problem, the list of explorer.exe processes are at least a page or two long. (Too many to bother counting). I "correct" this problem by logging off and then logging back on. This kills all the explorer.exe tasks. Unfortunately I don't know another way to terminate them all. Now here's the curious part. This only happens when I attempt to "Open" a PDF file. If instead I use the context menu (right mouse click on the PDF) and select "Open with" and "Adobe Reader 9.3" then Adobe Reader opens the file with no problem. It seems that there is something wrong with the setting for the default open action for PDF files. However, I have been unable to fix this by changing the Windows setting. Here is what I have tried. When I open Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Default Programs > Set Associations I do not find an entry for file type .pdf. There are only entries for .pdfxml and .pdx. When use "Open with" on a PDF file and select "Choose default program", the check box for "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" is disabled (greyed out). I have uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Reader but the problem persists. While obviously no lives are at stake here, this problem is annoying the frickin' heck out of me. If I forget and recreate this bug then I have to stop everything I'm doing to stop it. Any suggestions on how I might go about fixing this?

  • File Access problems with SLES 10 SP2 OES2 SP1

    We have identified a couple of repeatable, demonstrable scenarios with unexplained rejected folder access on our servers for Mac users. Hopefully, this can be presented to Novell for a solution. What we did to demonstrate scenario 1; 1. setup a PC and Mac side-by-side 2. login to our server and open up to a central location on both Mac and PC 3. on the PC in that central location create a folder 4. on the Mac in that central location drag the created folder to the Mac desktop, this should work fine, no problem 5. on the PC rename that folder 6. on the Mac drag a file to that renamed folder, this should error with the following message; a. You cannot copy some of these items to the destination because their names are too long for the destination. Do you want to skip copying these items and continue copying the other items? b. Select skip, response is the filename is copied to the location with zero or small byte size. Try opening it and you get file is corrupted error message. What we did to demonstrate scenario 2; 1. setup a PC and Mac side-by-side 2. login to our server and open up to a central location on both Mac and PC 3. on the PC in that central location create a folder then create a subfolder 4. copy some content into the subfolder 5. on the Mac in that central location drag the created top level folder to the Mac desktop, this should work fine, no problem 6. on the PC rename that subfolder 7. on the Mac drag that top level folder to the Mac desktop, this should error on the Mac with the following; a. The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for b. The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for 8. on the Mac, if you open that subfolder you can see the file copied in step 4 above but, you can not open that file, you get the following message if you try; a. There was an error opening this document. You do not have permission to open this file. 9. on the PC drag some content into the top level folder 10. on the Mac you can open that file directly from the server or copy it locally, no problem, however-the subfolder is still corrupted or locked, whichever 11. on the PC rename the top level folder 12. on the Mac that same file just opened in step 10 above is now not accessible, get the following message; a. The document could not be opened. I have observed some variances in the above. For instance, a change on the PC side may take a moment before you can observer or act on the Mac side - kind of like the server is slow to respond. Also, the error message may vary. However, the key is once a folder, or subfolder, gets renamed by a PC, Mac problems commence. The solution is to create a new folder from a PC and copy the contents of the corrupted folder to the new folder and not rename the folder name. This has to be done on a PC because the corrupted folder is not accessible by a Mac user. Another problem that dovetails with the above is that we know certain characters are not allowed for PC folder or filenames. If a Mac user creates a folder with a slash in the file name, from the PC the user does not see that slash in the name. As soon as the PC user copies a file to that folder, the Mac user is locked from that folder. Will get the following error message; - Sorry, the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occurred. - (Error code - 50) In addition to the above mentioned character issue with folders, the problem is more evil with filenames. If, for example, you create a file with a slash in the filename on a Mac and copy it to the server you will get the following error message; - You cannot copy some of these items to the destination because their names are too long for the destination. Do you want to skip copying these items and continue copying the other items? Select either Stop or Skip buttons. It does not matter which button is selected. The file name gets copied to the destination location at a reduced size. Depending on the file type, the icon associated with the file may or may not be present. Furthermore, if you open that file on the server you will get the following message; - Couldnt open the file. It may be corrupt or a file format that doesnt recognize. From the users perspective, if they are not observant of the icon or file size, they may disregard the error message and think their file has copied as intended. Only later do they discover the file is corrupt if they open that file. I want to make a note on this problem. It is the PC causing the issue. You can change folder and file names all day on a MAC and you don't have a problem as long as a character is not the issue. Once you change the file name or folder name from a PC the entire folder structure from that level down is corrupted. But it has to be resolved from a PC by creating a new folder and copying the contents to the new folder like stated above. Is something not configured correctly?   • Running multiple FCGI/Django on Nginx for load sharing

    I am running a web-service on Nginx/FastCGI/Django. Our processing time is fairly long and CPU intensive and I would like to be able to run multiple processes of Django/FastCGI to share the load. How do I set Nginx to rout requests from a single source to multiple instances of Django/FastCGI? (I can run the multiple instances on multiple ports/sockets, but I don't know how to make Nginx share the processing load between them.) Any help much appreciated.

  • Windows Server 2008 Black Screen on boot

    Hi I have a windows server 2008 running in Parrallels (on Mac osx)... the mac crashed yesterday and so I hard rebooted it, when I fired up the Windows Server 2008 VM this morning it goes as far as the progress bar then goes black screen and does nothing else (even when left for a long time). I can boot into safe mode, Event Viewer says: "The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: spldr stoflt" Any ideas? What should I do next?

    On XP, during hibernation a progress bar showd me how long I have to wait for completing the operation. On Seven, I see no progress bar and the monitor turn off at once while the OS saves the ram on the disk. Same thing during the wake up process after the hibernation. Is it possible to have the progress bar for hibernation and following wake up on Seven?

  • Network use of Gaming PC

    Background After YEARS of waiting, I built the custom gaming PC of my dreams: Intel i7 - 975 Extreme Edition 3.3ghz (overclocked to 4.0) ATI Radeon 5970 2gb Corsair 256 gb SSD Drive 2 TB Sata II 3.0 7200rpm data drive 12 GB Kingston Hyper-X (1600mhz) DDR3 Windows 7 Ultra 64 bit And so on. . . Problem I hooked this beast up to our home theater and settled in for a great gaming season only to realize a couple of drawbacks: It's hard to accurately wax bad guys using a keyboard in your lap whilst reclined on your couch (and using a wireless keyboard). It's hard to read the text on the screen (i.e. menus, etc). I find that a 1:1 ratio (screen diagonal inch to inch away from screen) is optimum, but using the home theater, it's more like 1:3 which has me squinting unless I sit on the coffee table. The wife always seems to want the TV the same time I do and, unfortunately "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" and Battlefield BC don't mix. I am losing the battle in the home theater room, but the PC has to stay there (long story). So, this leaves me with the option of playing in my home office which is about 30 feet away from the home theater. I am a software developer so I have a pretty decent set up in my office--multiple 1080p monitors, HP Envy 17 which can run games like Crysis in 720p with out stammering too much. Also, I can game very comfortably at my desk in the office. Still, even though the set up in my office can run games well enough, I don't want to regress to that when I have worked YEARS for an awesome gaming PC that can run everything on ultra high settings. My Question What are my options for running my games on the beastly desktop in the Home Theater, but physically playing in my office about 30 feet away? A really long HDMI cable? LAN/RDC? Details that May Help We have an open crawlspace so running cable from HT room to office is no problem. I already have networked the house with a LAN Any help is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks, Matt

    Hello, currently I have dual boot with 2 windows 7. (dont ask why, long story, I need them for each with different settings involving Audio Recording) I am very keen to install the new Ubuntu and get into a new OS, out of interest but I don't want to mess with my current 2 windows installations? If I install Ubuntu, will this simply add to my list of OS boot options when you set it, like I did when I install my 2nd Windows 7 Any comments or help would be great? Thanks Bill

So is it like, voice calls in 4G would be completely driven on top of IP? Wouldn't this break backward compatibility with existing 3G technologies?   • Best RAID setup for multimedia fileserver?

    I'm building a fileserver for my small office. We do film and multimedia design. Only 3 clients connected. The server is primarily for local access to graphic assets and video files. I'm looking for advice on hardware and software required. Particularly for the RAID. I have the following objectives: A) merged capacity I'd like all other systems to access the data as a single mapped network drive that has an initial capacity of 10 TB. So perhaps 5x 2TB drives (plus mirror drives for redundancy). B) easy way to increase capacity Thinking long term, I'd like to 'easily' add more drives to the array for a potential two or three fold increase in capacity. So theoretically it could get upto a 30 TB raid array consisting of maybe 15x 2 TB drives of capacity (plus mirror drives for redundancy). C) maximum fault tolerance I want at least 1 mirror drive per capacity drive (in laymen's terms). So if I start with 10 TB / 5x 2TB of capacity, I suppose I would need another another 5x 2TB drives to be mirrors. So 10 drives total. But I'd also like potential for even more redundancy; with upto 2 additional mirrors per 'capacity drive' (and to be able to add them to the array anytime with ease). D) easy way to monitor drive health I'd like an intuitive interface for managing the raid and monitoring drive health The other systems accessing this network drive will be running Windows, but also the odd Ubuntu and MacOS system as well. Are these objectives attainable? What type of RAID setup do you recommend? What hardware will be required? Also what OS do you think this system should be running? Does it really matter? I'm no network admin - just a long time Windoze user, without much Linux experience. That said, I'm not opposed to a Linux solution if it's easy enough and more practical than a Windows OS for this server. Or maybe something such as Openfiler. Budget should hit the sweet spot for value and performance (hence my preference to use 2TB drives). The biggest focus is storage; aside from that the system just needs to keep the drives running optimally with perhaps 2 or 3 clients accessing / writing files at any given time.   • Can I copy my Windows recovery partition to a usb and boot from it?

    Of course it's not quite this easy, but are there steps for doing this sort of thing? It's a long story but I was dual-booting linux and had a system meltdown of sorts. As such, my Windows bootloader has been erased and I cannot boot into that OS. I do, however, have a linux live-usb through which I have access to my drives. Is there anyway to make use of this recovery partition and boot from itto re-install Windows?

  • Is there a way to apply a GPO to all but selective users? (SBS 2008)

Unfortunately, one of our VPN users lives out in the sticks and has severe latency, so the start up processes and updates time out and take an awfully long time, if they ever complete at all. I'd like to apply this GPO to all auth'd users except for him, without having to create a new custom user group. Any thoughts?
