  • Why does TCP sometimes not acknowledge the packets it receives?

    I use firefox to visit a web server running on a computer on my LAN. I notice that sometimes TCP doesn't acknowledge the packets it receives. For example, in the following captured packets: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B-LaBUj9KtQhS0RYNXF1RjZTa2M/edit?usp=sharing the 7th 9th and 11th packets are duplicated ACK, the browser receives TCP packets 6,8 and 10, but the browser TCP stack doesn't acknowledge the received packets, why?

  • Subversion hard disk full

    Our SVN server hd was full. Deleted a load of unwanted data on there, and all appeared to be well. However, new check-ins are now failing. Can't move '/repos/db/txn-protorevs/1000-vr.rev' to '/repos/db/revs/1/1001': Permission denied 1000-vr.rev does not exist. There are two other files in there: 9-9.rev and 9-9.rev-lock Edit: I have checked file permissions just in case, and all is as it should be.

    What are good alternatives to the Windows builtin remote desktop client? I have tried Terminals and it is great but I've have run into numerous bugs with the latest release (currently 1.7e). Can anyone recommend an alternative similar to Terminals?     Is it possible to setup a mail server on a Linux machine without root permissions? I want to be able to create two aliases for a given mail ID. But if I remember correctly, it is no possible to do this without root privileges because I need to edit the configuration file and then restart the mail server.     I'm following a video tutorial where the author (who uses textmate) can open files by using "mate". for example mate .git/config will open this config file I'm using textwrangler however so I don't have that option. I did try edit .README once when i tried to open the README file of an application, but it opened a blank README file in textwrangler instead of the file with the text in it so any idea how I can open this .git/config file (or any other file) using textwrangler? I'm using Mac snow leopard

    When saving a document in Office, you are given the option of saving locally or to your SkyDrive account. Presumably, it's possible to add additional locations to this menu (Dropbox, etc.). Is this possible in the Live Preview, and how does one accomplish this? Edit: when I asked this question, I was not logged into a Live account.     I was just going through some all-in-one desktop PCs (Dell Studio One, HP Touch Smart, Lenovo IdeaCenter, etc.) and their specs really look good (4 GB RAM, 2.x GHz Core 2 Duo, etc.) Are there any disadvantages of such PCs as a developer machine? I mostly do Java (Eclipse + MySQL + Tomcat / JBoss) or .NET (Visual Studio + MsSQL) development. Edit: One common question I could see is harddrive size and that's around 320 GB 7200 RPM.

    Is that dangerous : for the computer (without the battery) for the cells If possible, explain why. Edit : Here are some more assumptions : Without the battery included, there is no risk of overheating the cell, or over charging them. But there is still some dc to dc conversion taking place on the motherboard. I assume this dc to dc stage to be quite tolerant. What kind of trouble can I run into when using 20V instead of 19V ?   • Can create and delete files through samba, but not modify?

    I'm connecting from Windows 7 to Ubuntu Server 10.04 using samba. I can create new files in the share, delete those files, but if I try to edit a file, and then save it, I get an access denied. My User in Windows is the same as the one I'm connecting as and as setup in Ubuntu. This is very odd. I also have trouble copying files to Ubuntu as well. It errors but lets me copy them anyway.

  • Is it possible to view the contents of an underlying NFS mount without unmounting the NFS content?

    I have a shared directory on a server - let's call it /home/shared - which is mounted with content from another server via nfs. When it is unmounted /home/shared is supposed to be empty - however, running du -x on the directory indicates that it is not empty. I cannot unmount the NFS content to inspect the mount point, since it is in use by others. Is there any way that I can view/edit the contents of the actual mount point (not the NFS content) while leaving the NFS content mounted for others to use?

    I'm having an issue where my Exchange Edge Transport server receives mail (found in logs) and then it vanishes, never ending up in the users mailbox, I have a edge subscription setup between it and the main Exchange server, how can I go about tracing the message to figure out what is broken? I also have found records of the message in the logs on the main Exchange server. Thanks a ton for any help Edit: If I change port 25 on my main router to point to the main exchange server as opposed to the Edge Transport, email comes through fine form external domains and delivered in the correct mailbox
