  I should say that I’m fan of regular expressions. Whenever I see the problem, which I can solve with Regex, I felt a burning desire to do it and going to write new test for new regex. Previously I had installed SharpDevelop Studio just for good regular expression tool in it (Why VS doesn’t have one?). But now I’m a little wiser, and for each Regex I write a separate test. I find it difficult to remember the syntax of regular expressions (I don’t write them very often); I always forget which character is responsible for the beginning of the line, etc. So I use external small and easy articles like this “Regular expressions - An introduction”. • How do I properly use String literals for loading content?

  I've been using verbatim string literals for some time now, and never quite thought about using a regular string literal until I started to come across them in Microsoft provided XNA samples. With that said, I'm trying to implement a new AudioManager class from the Net Rumble sample. I have two (2) issues here: Question 1: In my code for my GameplayScreen screen I have a folder location written as the following, and it works fine: menuButton = content.Load<SoundEffect>(@"sfx/menuButton"); menuClose = content.Load<SoundEffect>(@"sfx/menuClose"); If you notice, you'll see that I'm using a verbatim string, with a forward slash "/". In the AudioManager class, they use a regular string literal, but with two backslashes "\". I understand that one is used as an escape, but why are they BACK instead of FORWARD? (See below) soundList[soundName] = game.Content.Load<SoundEffect>("audio\\wav\\"+ soundName); Question 2: I seem to be doing everything correctly in my AudioManager class, but I'm not sure of what this line means: audioFileList = audioFolder.GetFiles("*.xnb"); I suppose that the *xnb means look for everything BUT files that end in *xnb? I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong with my file locations, as the sound effects are not playing. • What open source POSIX compliance test suites are available?

  I'm working on a small open source project, ELLCC, that uses clang/LLVM as a cross compiler for various target processors. For the runtime environment, I'm using the NetBSD libraries and porting them to target Linux and standalone systems. I want to run a POSIX compliance test suite on the code. I've found the Open POSIX Test Suite, which looks like a good start, but it hasn't been updated since 2005. I've done some preliminary testing (with gcc and ecc under Linux), and it looks like it needs a few updates for modern compilers. My questions are: Does the Open POSIX Test Suite live on somewhere in a more up to date form? Are there other open source alternatives?

• Is deserializing complex objects instead of creating them a good idea, in test setup?

  I'm writing tests for a component that takes very complex objects as input. These tests are mixes of tests against already existing components, and test-first tests for new features. Instead of re-creating my input objects (this would be a large chunk of code) or reading one from our data store, I had the thought to serialize a live instance of one of these objects, and just deserialize it into test setup. I can't decide if this is a reasonable idea that will save effort in long run, or whether it's the worst idea that I've ever had, causing those that will maintain this code will hunt me down as soon as they read it. Is deserialization of inputs a valid means of test setup in some cases? To give a sense of scale of what I'm dealing with, the size of serialization output for one of these input objects is 93KB. • Now that Device Central is dead, how can I test my Flash Lite applications?

  I'm trying to use Flash Lite to make a simple game for my girlfriend, who only has a Nokia 5530, but I just realized in CS6 Adobe killed Device Central, so there's no way for me to test it without the device (and it's supposed to be a surprise). Is there any other way for me to test it? I know I can just export the movie and use Flash Player, but Device Central allowed me to test drag and drop and memory/processor usage for example... tl;dr, is there an alternative to Device Central for testing Flash Lite in older devices?

• Exception when creating MailMessage

  I'm getting a FormatException telling me the address '[email protected]' is invalid (I'm guessing because of the '-'). Question How can I have it print another file, say foobar.txt without modifying the source code? It has something to do with running it through VS's, stepping through the functions and hijacking the FILE pointer right before fread() is called. No need to worry about leaking resources by calling fclose(). I tried the simple f = fopen("foobar.txt", "r") which gave CXX0017: Error: symbol "fopen" not found Any ideas? Edit I found out the solution accidentally on Debugging Mozilla on Windows FAQ. The correct command to put into the Immediate Window is f = {,,MSVCR100D}fopen("foo.txt", "r") However, it doesn't really answer this question: I still don't understand what is going on here. How to systematically find out the {,,MSVCR100D} part for any given method? I know the MSVCR version changes from system to system. How can I find that out? Could anyone explain the curly brace syntax, especially, what are those two commas doing there? Are there more hidden gems using this syntax?

• Where can I take an online programming aptitude test/exam?

  A potential employer requires me to take an online aptitude test before my interview (in this case the test is for C, from Previsor). Where can I take the same (or similar) test so I have a rough idea on what I should brush up on? I've taken a similar test for C++ previously, so I have some idea of what to expect. I've also been studying my C books thoroughly (especially the required material as described in the PDF), but I feel it would be a good idea to get a feel for the particular test before taking it. I did a quick search on Brainbench, but they don't seem to have a C test, unless I'm mistaken (only C++). Note: I'm happy to pay to take a test if no decent free ones are available.

• How can I start a TCP server in the background during a Perl unit test?

  I am trying to write a unit test for a client server application. To test the client, in my unit test, I want to first start my tcp server (which itself is another perl file). I tried to start the TCP server by forking: if (! fork()) { system ("$^X server.pl") == 0 or die "couldn't start server" } So when I call make test after perl Makefile.PL, this test starts and I can see the server starting but after that the unit test just hangs there. So I guess I need to start this server in background and I tried the & at the end to force it to start in background and then test to continue. But, I still couldn't succeed. What am I doing wrong? • Rails 2.3.5 table populated by fixtures at end of test run rather than at start

  I start with a test database containing the schema but with no data in the tables. I run a test like so cd test/ ruby unit/directive_test.rb I get failures indicating that the code found no data in the data tables. However, I look at the tables after running that test and the data is now in the the table. In fact, if I immediately run the test again I get no failures. So it appears that the fixture is being loaded into the table too late for one of my modules to find it. When are the fixtures loaded? After or before the app/model/*.rb files are executed? If it is after the models are executed is there a way to delay the loading? This issue is also relevant when running rake test:units since that task clears the test data after it finished.

In that we are searching for a pattern "ReqInputMsgLog" and need to count the number of times it occurred in the given period for eg: from "2014-08-19 11:30" to "2014-08-19 11:34".   I'm setting up an nginx server for the first time, and having some trouble getting the rewrite rules right for nginx. The Apache rules we used were: See if it's a real file or directory, if so, serve it, then send all requests for / to Director.php DirectoryIndex Director.php If the URL has one segment, pass it as rt RewriteRule ^/([a-zA-Z0-9\-\_]+)/$ /Director.php?rt=$1 [L,QSA] If the URL has two segments, pass it as rt and action RewriteRule ^/([a-zA-Z0-9\-\_]+)/([a-zA-Z0-9\-\_]+)/$ /Director.php?rt=$1&action=$2 [L,QSA] My nginx config file looks like: server { ... location / { try_files $uri $uri/ /index.php; } location ~ \.php$ { fastcgi_pass unix:/var/run/php5-fpm.sock; fastcgi_index index.php; fastcgi_param SCRIPT_FILENAME $document_root$fastcgi_script_name; include fastcgi_params; } } How do I get the URL segments into Query String Parameters like in the Apache rules above? • Validate a string in a table in SQL Server - CLR function or T-SQL

  I need to check If a column value (string) in SQL server table starts with a small letter and can only contain '_', '-', numbers and alphabets. I know I can use a SQL server CLR function for that. However, I am trying to implement that validation using a scalar UDF and could make very little here...I can use 'NOT LIKE', but I am not sure how to make sure I validate the string irrespective of the order of characters or in other words write a pattern in SQL for this. Am I better off using a SQL CLR function? Any help will be appreciated.. Thanks in advance Thank you everyone for their comments. This morning, I chose to go CLR function way. For the purpose of what I was trying to achieve, I created one CLR function which does the validation of an input string and have that called from a SQL UDF and It works well. Just to measure the performance of t-SQL UDF using SQL CLR function vs t- SQL UDF, I created a SQL CLR function which will just check if the input string contains only small letters, it should return true else false and have that called from a UDF (IsLowerCaseCLR). After that I also created a regular t-SQL UDF(IsLowerCaseTSQL) which does the same thing using the 'NOT LIKE'. Then I created a table (Person) with columns Name(varchar) and IsValid(bit) columns and populate that with names to test. Data :- 1000 records with 'Ashish' as value for Name column 1000 records with 'ashish' as value for Name column then I ran the following :- UPDATE Person Set IsValid=1 WHERE dbo.IsLowerCaseTSQL (Name) Above updated 1000 records (with Isvalid=1) and took less than a second. I deleted all the data in the table and repopulated the same with same data. Then updated the same table using Sql CLR UDF (with Isvalid=1) and this took 3 seconds! If update happens for 5000 records, regular UDF takes 0 seconds compared to CLR UDF which takes 16 seconds! I am very less knowledgeable on t-SQL regular expression or I could have tested my actual more complex validation criteria. But I just wanted to know, even I could have written that, would that have been faster than the SQL CLR function considering the example above. Are we using SQL CLR because we can implement we can implement lot richer logic which would have been difficult otherwise If we write in regular SQL. Sorry for this long post. I just want to know from the experts. Please feel free to ask if you could not understand anything here. Thank you again for your time.
