• How can I keep track of all the websites I've made like a proper business would?

  A few other students and I are forming a group that wants to become good at what we do: websites. We are making websites for free for friends at the moment in order to get ourselves some experience and to learn from each other. We are about to finish our first website this week. In 6 months time we plan to have a portfolio and hope to start charging for websites. The issue is that we are all beginners and we are unsure about how to keep records of the websites we do. It is important as we may want to maintain a few websites or add to them later on. How does a proper web design business keep records of all info needed? Is there a program or software package we can use?

• iPhone 3d Model format: .h file, .obj, or some other?

  I'm beginning to write an iPhone game using OpenGL-ES and I've come across a problem with deciding what format my 3D models should be in. I've read (link escapes me at the moment) that some developers prefer the models compiled in Objective-C .h files. Still, others prefer having .obj as these are more portable (i.e., for deployment on non-iPhone platforms). Various 3D game engines seem to support many(?) formats, but I'm not going to use any of these engines as I would like to actually learn OpenGL-ES. Am I putting myself at a disadvantage here by not using a packaged engine? Thanks!

• How to modify Dreamweaver's SpryMenuBar.js to send a msgbox on what menu was clicked?

  I have a simple HTML webpage made in Dreamweaver with a SpryMenuBar. When I click on a menu item, I want to send a pop up message box that says which menu item was clicked. (This is not really my objective but once I can learn to hook into the spry java script with a mouse click listener I can try to do what I am really after.) The problem is for some reason I can't seem to get started with this seemingly simple task. Does anybody know how to revise the SpryMenuBar.js to make a msgbox showing the item that was clicked? For example if I click a menu that say's 'Contact us', I wan't to throw a message box that says "You pressed, Contact us". Note: My final objective is to actually call another function that changes text in the center of my page, depending on what menu item was clicked.

• Is There A Security Risk With Users That Are Also Groups?

  I know a little about users and groups; in the past I might have had a group like 'DBAS' or 'ADMINS' and I'd add individual users to each group... But I was surprised to learn I could add users to other users - as if they were groups. For example if my /etc/group contained the following: user1:x:12501: user2:x:12502:user1 admin:x:123:user2,jim,bob Since user2 is a member of the admin group, and user1 is a member of user2 - is user1 effectively an admin? If the admin group is in the sudoers file, can user1 use it as well? I've tried to simulate this and I haven't been able to do so as user1...but I'm not sure it's impossible. EDIT: SORRY - updated error in question.

  I just graduated recently from a 4-year university with a degree in Computer Science and thankfully got a job in Software Engineering. I'm working with C++ with a .NET framework if that's correct to say because that also confuses me. What I'm asking for is what tutorials/books are out there to learn C++ for Windows Programming I guess? I know how to program somewhat and I understand the concepts but when I look at the code it doesn't make sense to me. I know I just started so it's kind of expected but it's certainly quite different from college. Thanks!

• Just being hired as a senior developer, never even been a junior developer, what should I expect?

  I've been a freelancer and a coder by night for a while, and recently, I've been hired after several levels of interviews in a nice NY company, even though I've some lacks in specific fields. Is this common for companies to hire seniors with less experience? Will they wait some weeks to respect a certain learning curve? I don't know anything about working in a company, so that's why I worry. After one week, I'm still checking and exploring sources, but after one week of work, it seems that some coworkers are considering that I'm slow. I'm good in maths, physics, algorithms, but still I need to learn about all the templates used in this company. Anyone here already received a less-experienced senior member in his team? Is this acceptable? I'm planing on having a meeting with my boss to stop worrying about that. Sounds like a good idea?

• Need to know best way to utilize LVM to backup Ubuntu

  So I've had issues with Windows which forced me to install and learn Ubuntu as I'm fed up with MSFT. So now I need to know the most efficient/best way to image Ubuntu so that if I messed something up in one point in time I could always come back to the healthy point in time. During the install I saw an option for LVM and read what it is though I don't know how to utilize it to prevent a situation where I have to reinstall everything. Help? Note: I found on the right hand side of this Ask A Question area an area titled Similar Questions giving me Setting up LVM Snapshot as a backup/restore point in ubuntu This is pretty in depth and a bit complex, though completely doable, is it possible to just use LVM out of the box after a complete HDD wipe and normal Ubuntu install? :Fingers crossed and rabbits foot in hand:

• Why isn't LISP more widespread?

  I am starting to learn Scheme by the SICP videos, and I would like to move to Common Lisp next. The language seems very interesting, and most of the people writings books on it advocate that it has unequalled expressive power. CL seems to have a decent standard library. Why is not Lisp more widespread? If it is really that powerful, people should be using it all over, but instead it is nearly impossible to find, say, Lisp job advertisements. I hope it is not just the parenthesis, as they are not a great problem after a little while.

  I am learning LWJGL so i can start working on my game. In order to learn LWJGL I got the idea to implement the map builder so I can get comfortable with graphics programming. Now, for the map creation tool I need to draw new elements or draw the old one's with different coordinates. Let me explain this: My game will be a 2D scroller. The map will be consisting of multiple rectangles ( 2 strip triangles). When I click my left-mouse button i want to start the rectangle and when I release it I want to stop the rectangle bottom-right at that position. As I want to use VBOs I want to know how to modify data inside the VBO based on user input. Should i have a copy of a vertex array and then add the whole array to the VBO at each user input? How is usually implemented the VBO update?

  One of my friends has just completed his college degree and is ready to join the programmers' world. Today he has two offers, one with new projects every time, and another with software maintenance. The remaining factors are not important to him, what he wants to know is which option is better? My experience goes with second option because my first job was the maintenance one and I could learn how my fellow programmers made mistakes while coding . But I soon switched to a new job which required me to create new project every time. I enjoyed both but I must admit that my first job has given me a more advantage today. But it's not necessary that my experience can give benefit to him. But I want to know what is general approach? If I have to give him final verdict on these two, what should I tell him?   I've recently learned how to make games for Unity3d, and now I want to start making games! I can't wait to start! However, before I can make 3D games, I need to learn 3D modeling for character design, level design, and some animation. What is the easiest 3D modeling software, compatible with Unity3d? I do not want to spend too much time learning the software. From what I've heard, Blender is a bit complicated to use. Maya and 3dsMax seem very powerful. Could someone point me in the right direction? I don't want to spend a lot of time learning.   Granted that Silverlight may make eye-popping websites of great beauty, is there any justification for using it to make practical web applications that have serious business purposes? I'd like to use it (to learn it) for a new assignment I have, which is to build a web-based application that keeps track of the data interfaces used in our organization, but I'm not sure how to justify it, even to myself.
