  • Groovy JUnit test support

    Good news everyone! I've implemented support for the Groovy JUnit tests which basically means you can finally use Groovy in the area where is so highly productive! You can create a new Groovy JUnit test in the New File/Groovy/Groovy JUnit test and it should behave in the same way as for Java tests. Which means if there is no JUnit setup in your project yet, you can choose between JUnit 3 and JUnit 4 template and with respect to your choice the project settings will be changed (in case of the Maven based projects the correct dependencies and plugins are added to the pom.xml and in case of the Ant based project the JUnit dependency is configured). Or if the project is already configured, the correct template will be used. After that the test skeleton is created and you can write your own code and of course run the tests together with the java ones. Some of you were asking for this feature and of course I don't expect it will be perfect from the beginning so I would be really glad to see some constructive feedback about what could be improved and/or redesigned ;] ..at the end I have to say that the feature is not active for the Ant based Java EE projects yet (I'm aware of it and it will be fixed to the NetBeans 7.3 final - actually it will be done in a few days/weeks, just want you to know). But it's already complete in all types of the Maven based projects and also for the Ant based J2SE projects. And as always, the daily build where you can try the feature can be downloaded right here, so don't hesitate to try it!

Our goal is to provide a single-online support portal so that all My Oracle Support users can benefit from the same features and functionality. Prior to July 13, 2012, users of Oracle On Demand, Oracle CRM On Demand, Taleo, and Oracle Configuration Manager should continue accessing the My Oracle Support Flash-based user interface. After July 13, 2012, the above features and functionality to support these users will be available on the HTML interface. All other users of My Oracle Support can make the switch now.   • Software Architecture Analysis Method (SAAM)

    Software Architecture Analysis Method (SAAM) is a methodology used to determine how specific application quality attributes were achieved and how possible changes in the future will affect quality attributes based on hypothetical cases studies. Common quality attributes that can be utilized by this methodology include modifiability, robustness, portability, and extensibility. Quality Attribute: Application Modifiability The Modifiability quality attribute refers to how easy it changing the system in the future will be. This to me is a very open-ended attribute because a business could decide to transform a Point of Sale (POS) system in to a Lead Tracking system overnight. (Yes, this did actually happen to me) In order for SAAM to be properly applied for checking this attribute specific hypothetical case studies need to be created and review for the modifiability attribute due to the fact that various scenarios would return various results based on the amount of changes. In the case of the POS change out a payment gateway or adding an additional payment would have scored very high in comparison to changing the system over to a lead management system. I personally would evaluate this quality attribute based on the S.O.I.L.D Principles of software design. I have found from my experience the use of S.O.I.L.D in software design allows for the adoption of changes within a system. Quality Attribute: Application Robustness The Robustness quality attribute refers to how an application handles the unexpected. The unexpected can be defined but is not limited to anything not anticipated in the originating design of the system. For example: Bad Data, Limited to no network connectivity, invalid permissions, or any unexpected application exceptions. I would personally evaluate this quality attribute based on how the system handled the exceptions. Robustness Considerations Did the system stop or did it handle the unexpected error? Did the system log the unexpected error for future debugging? What message did the user receive about the error? Quality Attribute: Application Portability The Portability quality attribute refers to the ease of porting an application to run in a new operating system or device. For example, It is much easier to alter an ASP.net website to be accessible by a PC, Mac, IPhone, Android Phone, Mini PC, or Table in comparison to desktop application written in VB.net because a lot more work would be involved to get the desktop app to the point where it would be viable to port the application over to the various environments and devices. I would personally evaluate this quality attribute based on each new environment for which the hypothetical case study identifies. I would pay particular attention to the following items. Portability Considerations Hardware Dependencies Operating System Dependencies Data Source Dependencies Network Dependencies and Availabilities  Quality Attribute: Application Extensibility The Extensibility quality attribute refers to the ease of adding new features to an existing application without impacting existing functionality. I would personally evaluate this quality attribute based on each new environment for the following Extensibility  Considerations Hard coded Variables versus Configurable variables Application Documentation (External Documents and Codebase Documentation.)     Does anyone have a code snippet or a class that will take a long long and turn it into a 16 byte Hex string? I'm looking to turn data like this long long decimalRepresentation = 1719886131591410351; and turn it into this //Base 16 Hex Output: 17DE435307A07300 The %x operator doesn't want to work for me NSLog(@"Hex: %x",decimalRepresentation); //console : "Hex: 7a072af" As you can see that's not even close.     Hi All, I'm willing to install phpunit 5.3 with MAMP 1.9 and there for I need to upgrade PEAR to version 1.9.1. The current version installed is 1.9.0.     Background I've been running a KVM switch with my monitor at 1920 x 1080 over VGA for over a year. Did a Windows Update on 12/11/12 which did the following: Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2779562) Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2779030) Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 8 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2761465) Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool x64 - December 2012 (KB890830) Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2753842) Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2758857) Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2770660) After a restart, my extended monitor was dark. I attempted to reset the extended display configuration, and noticed my monitor was being detected as a Generic Non-PnP Monitor: I uninstalled, downloaded new, and re-installed display drivers. Nothing. I attempted to unplug my monitor from the power for 15 minutes. Nothing. I followed some of the suggestions on this thread; specifically DanM's which suggested to create a new *.inf file and replace that in Device Manager. Device Manager said the "best driver software for your device is already installed". The only thing that works is when the monitor is directly attached to the laptop. This obviously is not what I want. My thought is to somehow remove the Generic Non-PnP Monitor from registry. How would I accomplish this and would this help? Any other suggestions?   • GPU not powering on

    So I got home from work yesterday and went to turn my computer on as per usual to be greeted by this: The screens remained black, so I rebooted; I go as far as GRUB before my screens went black again. I rebooted again, they didn't turn on. I rebooted again, I got as far as the windows login screen. This time I unplugged it, opened it up and cleaned it but to no luck. The GPU was still being tempermental. I repeated the process of turning off and on several times until one time it work as normal. I happily played games for the rest of the night (5-6 hours?) thinking everything was jolly good now. Well I get home from work today and it is doing the SAME thing. Sometimes everything displays normally for a few seconds to minutes then the screens go black; then sometimes the screens don't come on at all. Summary and additional points Screens sometimes turn on before shortly turning off, sometimes they don't; I cannot seem to determine any pattern between when they do or do not turn off. The build has been working fine for about 8 months now so I know it's not hardware incompatibility. If I plug a monitor into the on board graphics I can use the PC normally (just in low graphics mode) I have two monitors and it's a case of they both turn on or not. So I think I can rule out the monitors being dead. I have tried replacing the GPU I have tried replacing the RAM I have tried flashing the CMOS I have tried cleaning the inside The GPU is a Radeon HD 7870 My questions Is my GPU dead? It's not very old and I would rather have a method of being certain it's the GPU before I fork out some money I can't really afford. I do not have a second PC here to test it in. If my GPU is dead why does it sometimes work and sometimes not? Update Okay, it was working again.. at least I thought it was. I left it running for 10-20minutes with the screens black. Turned it off and straight back on and it worked for all of 10minutes. I was then updating the post in joy thinking I could play some games for the rest of the night when BAM it went black again. So yeah, I don't know :C

He argues that file-based session is much faster and eaiser to use than other choices like db-based or memcached-based implementations.   • Problems in VLC Flickering

    I'm with problems at VLC. When I will go watch a movie, the video and sound be flickering I saw in some places that if i turn off the Compiz Animations it will works fine, but i dont want turn off the animations. Other solution that i saw was put in terminal the command: gstreamer-properties and set the video out to "X Window System (without Xv)" but this isnt working... Anyone have any idea how resolve this?   • How do I disable Caps Lock by command line?

    For some reason my laptop is stuck in Caps Lock. I have the Caps Lock key mapped by xmodmap to hyper_l, so I don't have a caps_lock key to turn it off. Is there a way I can turn it off by command line? It would be nice if I could reset the lock state without resetting my computer, especially for future reference. This has happened before, but I would like to know now how to do it properly this time.

  • Office lights on or off in programming department? How to decide? [closed]

    At my company, the programmers who sit in the same area are constantly fighting over whether the lights stay on or off. Because there is no official policy it makes it a particularly sticky situation. We are a typical cube-farm and we have those typical cube-farm fluorescent lights and smaller ones at our desks. With the lights off, it is difficult to read and you would probably need to turn on your desk light (which some people do anyway). All programmers in our department do most of their reading on their monitor because of the nature of our business. Some feel that we should have a vote to decide whether the lights stay on or off. A couple who prefer 'lights on' feel that the vote would need to be unanimous to turn them off as having them on is the more natural office setting. Those who want them off point out that all other departments keep their lights off. I have heard all of the arguments: -Fluorescent lights cause eye strain -Reading in dark causes eye strain -The desk lights can be used if light is needed -People from other departments feel uncomfortable approaching us in the "dark" -The monitors are harder to see in the light ... Right now, some of the developers turn off the lights and some turn them on. It really just depends who last walked by the switch. I am a bit sick of the controversy as it feels a bit childish at the moment. I'm tired of hearing about it and I'm tired of having to talk about it. I tried to help them decide but as I explained, voting wasn't enough. Do other programming departments have this same argument? What is the standard or traditionally accepted option in a programming area? Are there any good reasons for one way or the other outside of preference? How can we decide fairly? EDIT Just a little more info... We do not have clients/visitors come into our office. We do have windows and hall lights that make our environment plenty bearable with the lights off. It kind of resembles a meeting room that has the lights off during a powerpoint presentation.
