  • Record keyboard/mouse macros for games

    I want to record a keyboard/mouse macro for automatically playing repetitive flash games. The programs I'm familiar with xnee/gnee/pnee and xmacro don't work under Ubuntu 10.04. (Xnee gives "Xnee failed due to bad data received from RECORD extension" for version 3.02, which is a known issue which I haven't found a solution for, and xmacro just plain doesn't work...) Are there any other methods I could use besides these two programs? Thanks

  • Difficult to point-and-click target with Apple Magic Trackpad?

    My Magic Trackpad is great for most things involving dragging and gestures, but for simple point-and-click use it is starting to get really annoying. For example, my bank has a numeric code that I need to enter from a visual grid on the screen, by clicking on the six numbers in order. To do this is quite difficult with the Magic Trackpad. Idea 1: it is because when you start dragging on the touchpad, there is a brief delay before the mouse starts to move. The delay might be enough to screw up my anticipation of where the cursor is going to go. Idea 2: it may have to do with the cursor acceleration. If I move it a little, the cursor moves a little. If I move it a lot, it goes much faster. I have tried various settings in the preference pane, and although the cursor does move more or less quickly, it doesn't seem any more or less easy to hit a given target. As I am writing this post, I tried a brief experiment -- I chose a spot on the page (the bracket in the superuser logo) and tried to move the cursor there in one quick movement. It's extremely difficult, even though I've been using Macs and touchpads since 1999. There is something about the behavior of the trackpad that is making it impossible for me to learn how to accurately predict where the cursor will end up. Does anyone else have this problem?

Where can I find information about driver .inf files and how windows checks if they are usable? I know that many people do modify .inf files so there must be some information on the Internet. Basically I have a bad .inf file and would like to see what's wrong with it and how to fix it if possible.

    For something like Final Cut Pro where you have scratch disks, is it absolutely a bad idea to use a solid state drive? There would be a lot of writing, but I'm thinking it would be less for video editing then say, programming? The read/write cycles for SSDs still seem pretty long...

(beside to try and replace one - and see if it loads and syncs) On the device manager, under disks I see both disks, one of them has an icon of: Disable, while the other doesn't Event log displays an event id 7 - bad block on Hard disk DR0 The thing is that looking in device manager, both disks are located in '0' location, which is bizzare

  • How to remove Reply List option in Thunderbird 3?

    I receive email as part of a mailing list that also CC's other people. T-Bird defaults the toolbar button to Reply List instead of Reply All, which strips away the CC's. That's bad, because they're not on the list. Is there a way I can stop T-Bird from presenting Reply List as an option, or at least make Reply All the default? Thanks!

    we have set up a small IPv6 Testing network. The setup looks like this: ::/0 +----------+ | Firewall | Router to the public net +----------+ | 2001:...::/106 | +----------+ +-------| SIT GW | sit Tunnel gatway to the some test users | +----------+ | +----------+ | Test Sys | Testsystem +----------+ The idea is to advertise the default route from the firewall and the route for the SIT subnets from the sit gateway. The configurations for radvd are: # Firewall interface eth0 { AdvSendAdvert on; route ::/0 { }; }; # SIT Gatway interface eth0 { AdvSendAdvert on; route 2001:...::/106 { }; }; We have captured the adv. packages with tcpdump and the packages looks good. We see a default route from the fw, and the subnet route from the SIT gatway. But if we look on the testsystem there are two default routes over both gateways. There is no subnet route. The routing does not work of course.   • VCL - configuration for Magento and Varnish 3.0.2

    I would like to kindly ask if there's someone who can help me configure Varnish for Magento to reach far more hits. My current ratio from varnishstat is: cache_hit=271 cache_miss=926 I'm kindly asking this because I've googled almost every site related to this theme, but 99.9% of configurations don't work because of outdated code. Details of my set-up: I use Varnish on port 80, Apache on port 81, PageCache as Magento varnish module, APC for PHP speed and Memcached for dynamic caching. Load speed is about 1.5s on home-page (Pingdom.com average results) USA ping & 2.5s Europe. Servers are located in Toronto, Canada. EDIT: This is my full VCL configuration http://pastebin.com/885BzHCs (I just use xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx for my IPs) This is the info from the command (varnishtop -i TxHeader -I Cookie): TxHeader Cookie: frontend=965b5...(*lots of numbers); adminhtml=3ae65...(*lots of numbers); EXTERNAL_NO_CACHE=1 "(*lots of numbers)" is just my adding to the info Any idea how to avoid Varnish hitting this cookies?   • What exactly is a Deamon ? ( how to run a root command from apache binded script that uses www-data user )?

    I am trying to run this command from WSGI script service httpd restart The problem is this command can only be run by root and apache uses the www-data user. it has been said the solution is to use a Deamon Process i suppose the idea is to send the command to a file that will be executed by a script that is considered "root" user.. its difficult to understand why they would call this a Deamon Process and try to scare me. Perhaps it should have been called : proxy process when i got the idea that this was a proxy process.. i thought about adding a line to /var/spool/cron/root that way the cron would execute the command for me. but of course this means i have to get the system time and then add 1 second to it and then add it to that line so cron would execute the command for me as root but my script demands an output instantly. so i suppose i need to create a DEAMON PROCESS that works like the cron. in other words it is a bash file that will execute the command in a plain file.. but will this DEAMON PROCESS be running a while command 24/7 every second ? would that not waste resources ? it only needs to activate itself to check for a command to execute when there is a command to be executed. i mean in PHP and other programming languages.. running a while statement when there is nothing to be executed could waste resources of the server.. so why should a deamon process constantly be listening for anything. i only want it to listen and execute when it is needed. i do not need a process that is constantly listening.

  • Slow RDP after server joins domain

    We're having RDP issues with Amazon cloud servers that we recently joined to an Active Directory domain. The setup is: A local office network A virtual private cloud in Amazon An IPSec tunnel between the two networks A number of Windows 2008 R2 servers on both networks An AD domain (call it abc.net), with one domain controller in each network. The domain controllers are both new, fresh installs. Before we had the domain set up we had local accounts for the cloud computers which were used for RDP access. Our idea was to get all of the servers on to the domain so we could use domain logins instead of per-server local logins. Before the cloud servers were in the domain, RDP (from the office network or through a VPN to the cloud) worked great. After we joined the cloud servers to the domain, RDP from the office became very slow - a few minutes to log in, long frequent pauses when the interface is unresponsive, generally just a slow and frustrating experience. This is a problem regardless of whether a domain or local login is used for RDP. Oddly, when outside of the office network and connecting to the cloud directly with the VPN, RDP is still very responsive. Any idea why RDP from office to cloud is suddenly very slow after the cloud servers join the domain? What can I look at in our configuration to address this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Currently I am reading SSD reviews and I wonder how much exactly I will benefit if I move the 24 GB swap from 7200rpm HDD to SSD. Does anyone implemented swap space on SSD? Is this generally good idea? On a side note: I read that ext4 has much better performance if the journal is on SSD. Anyone with such a setup? Thanks! Edit: Here I will answer the questions posted: Occasionally, relatively rare I am hitting the swap. I know what the swap is for and that is better to get more RAM. When the server begins to swap its performance degrades (not a surprise). The idea is if I have few memory hungry processes running, to improve the overall system performance at that time, using SSD for swap, instead of slower rotational media. At the end - I want to be able to login faster and check the server state during swapping, instead of waiting on the login prompt. And of what I see SSD is cheaper per GB than RAM. Would I have better server performance during swapping (as rare it is) using SSD compared to HDD? Where 10k or 15k rpm HDDs would rate in this scenario? When I run netmon on that desktop it cannot resolve the application producing them (but does log them). First question, is this bad?     Whenever I drag or resize a window near any edge or corner of either monitor, Windows wants to maximize or resize the window for me in several different ways: dragging a window near a corner offers resize to full-screen dragging directly to the corner offers half-screen maximize resizing to top or bottom edges offers a vertical maximize (one long strip from top to bottom) Actually, now that I think about it the 3rd one isn't so bad, its just the full and half-screen maximize features that drives me mad. Is there a registry hack to disable these settings, preferably independently?

  • System won't boot: Gigabyte HD 7790 1GB OC GPU issue or Corsair VS550 PSU issue?

    Installed a new GPU, and PC won't boot. Turn it on and: No monitor signal at all (tried HDMI and VGA via DVI, on 2 working monitors). CPU and GPU fans DO spin, but No system beeps, no sounds from drives (they might make a small noise in the first 1 second or so, but there's definitely no OS loading or anything like that) If hit "power off" button it turns off immediately (no holding down for 3 seconds like usual) If I put my old HD 5670 GPU back in, everything works fine. But (plot twist!) card is not totally dead. My friend put it in his PC, and it works fine (he even played a game for 15 minutes, no issues). He has a Corsair TX850 850W and a Gigabyte MB. So my main theory is: the GPU isn't getting enough power from the PSU. But is it: Bad PSU? Seems unlikely, since it works fine with the other GPU. Also, the PSU Is brand new and 550W (single 42A/504W 12V rail). Overkill for this GPU. Corsair is a decent brand, but maybe just mine is faulty? Bad GPU? Could it be drawing more power than it should be, somehow, or something? Supposedly HD 7790 needs only 21A/75W on the 12v rail, though this one is factory overclocked a bit... but should that triple the power requirement? Something else? Could there be a motherboard incompatibility somehow? Both MB and GPU are less than a year old and PCI Express 3.0 x16. Things I've tried: Re-seating the video card Testing PC with old GPU (works fine, same PCIe slot). Checked AMD's stated amp/watt requirements of a 7790 and my PSU (see above). My PSU can output twice the amps (single rail) and 5x the Wattage a 7790 needs. Here are the full specs: Gigabyte HD 7790 1GB OC GPU Corsair VS550 550W PSU 4GB RAM AsRock H61M U3S3 motherboard i3-2100 500GB SATA HDD (2007-ish) blu-ray drive (new) PCI 802.11g card Edit: Motherboard BIOS Update seems to have fixed it. (If anyone has same problem and it doesn't work, comment here).

    If I mistype a URL, Chrome sometimes redirects me to a search. For instance, typing "example_url_i_sometimes_mistype.conm" into the location bar gets me: Your search - example_url_i_sometimes_mistype.conm - did not match any documents. Not only is this annoying, but if the mistyped URL was one on private DNS, I've now just told Google that the domain exists. (A small concern, but bad in principle.) Can I configure Chrome to just show an error and not blab to Google Search about it?

  • Slow connection to Linux MySQL from Windows only (XAMPP)

    I'm having a problem with a PHP project (using Kohana 3.2 framework) on my Windows 7 64-bit machine connecting to the database. The development database is stored on a Ubuntu Linux server on the local network. Other development machines running OSX and Linux are connecting fine. There are no other Windows development machines to test with. I can access MySQL fine using MySQL Workbench, and other projects (which I believe to be less database heavy) run mostly ok, only occasionally getting timeout messages. I'm constantly getting Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded when functions such as mysql_query() are run in this particular project. Specifically, the Kohana file where the timeout occurs is MODPATH\database\classes\kohana\database\mysql.php [ 186 ]. My local set-up is: Windows 7 Professional 64bit XAMPP 1.7.7 (PHP 5.3.8) The output of uname -a of the Linux server is: Linux peach 2.6.38-11-server #50-Ubuntu SMP Mon Sep 12 21:34:27 UTC 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux I've tried the following, with no success: Disabling Windows firewall Switching between using a persistant and normal connection In my.cnf, adding skip-name-resolve Increasing wait_timeout Enabling bind-address I've run out of ideas now, and have no idea how to debug an odd issue like this. Has anyone come across this before, or have any idea how I could find the root of the issue, or what might be the problem?

And I found that i don't have permission to modify the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main], only got a "everyone" user to access it.     How do you set max execution time of PHP's CLI component? I have a CLI script that has gone into a infinite loop and I'm not sure how to kill it without restarting. I used quicksilver to launch it, so I can't press control+c at the command line. I tried running ps -A (show all processes) but php is not showing up in that list, so perhaps it has timed out on it's own - but how do you manually set the time limit? I tried to find information about where I should set the max_execution_time setting, I'm used to setting this for the version of PHP that runs with apache, but I have no idea where to set it for the version of PHP that lives in /usr/bin. I did see the follow quote, which does seem to be accurate (see screenshot below), but having an unlimited execution time doesn't seem like a good idea. Keep in mind that for CLI SAPI max_execution_time is hardcoded to 0. So it seems to be changed by ini_set or set_time_limit but it isn't, actually. The only references I've found to this strange decision are deep in bugtracker (http://bugs.php.net/37306) and in php.ini (comments for 'max_execution_time' directive). (via http://php.net/manual/en/function.set-time-limit.php) ini_set('max_execution_time') has no effect. I also tried the same thing and go the same result with set_time_limit(7).

  • Scaling a LAMP website hosted on EC2

    Hello, I'm very new to all this - I've recently managed to launch my website on EC2. As next step, I want to learn how to scale the website. I have a general idea but wanted some input from the experts about how to go about it. My website is based on LAMP but also has Red5 server which allows users to record messages and also used for playing them back. Currently this is the architecture I'm planning to setup for initial scaling. Deploy four small EC2 instances for the following purposes: Instance-1: On this instance I will run the MySql database Instance-2: On this instance I will run the red5 server Instance-3 & Instance-4 These 2 instances will be used to deploy the website and will have Apache running on them. They will communicate with the mysql server on Instance-1 and red5 server on Instance-2 using the internal IP address. As an when required, I will launch another instance of the same EBS - I will have EBS of say 50 GIG where all the mysql data will be stored. Also red5 will use this EBS to store the video messages Load-Balancer - Use the load balancer provided by Amazon to load balance Instance-3 and Instance-4 This is what I have in mind. I could be way off so please bear with me. Also I have not taken into account the case of scaling MySql server as I currently have no idea about how that will be done and whether or not it is necessary initially. I am aware that Amazon provides auto scaling and mysql scaling as well but I dont want to get into that right now. Your feedback is appreciated Thanks
