• SQL Server 2008 spatial index and CPU utilization with MapGuide Open Source 2.1

  I have a SQL Server table with hundreds of thousands of geometry type parcels. I have made indexes on them trying different combinations of density and objects per cell settings. So far I'm settiling for LOW, LOW, MEDIUM, MEDIUM and 16 objects per cell and I made a SP that sets the bounding box according to the extents of the entities in the table. There is an incredible performance boost from queries taking almost minutes without index to less than seconds, it gets faster when the zoom is closer thus less objects are displayed. Yet the CPU utilization gets to 100% when querying for features, even when the queries themselves are fast. I'm worrying this will not fly in a production environment. I am using MapGuide Open Source 2.1 for this project, but I am positive the CPU load is caused by SQL Server. I wonder if my indexes are set properly. I haven't found any clear documentation on how to properly set them up. Every article I've read basically says "it depends..." but nothing specific. Do you have any recommendations for me, including books, articles? Thank you.

  Hello I`ve been wondering how to implement methods in a class. Could someone explain me what means if one does OOP in procedural style?   Hi, I am probably totally missing the point here but.... How can I pass a 'var' into another method? (I am using linq to load XML into an Enumerable list of objects). I have differernt object types (with different fields), but the final step of my process is the same regardless of which object is being used. But I then want to iterate though the code to check for various issues: foreach (var w in result2) { if (w.CheckIT()) { //do something } } What I would love is the final step to be in a method in the base class, and I can pass the 'var' varible into it from each child class.

• Programming issue while applying text to the third party control.

  Hello I have used some third party controls in my windows application. There is a snippet which is being used in our code which re-initializes all the .text property of all the controls on the form. Everything works fine except for a control. This control is similar to the Windows Panel except for it has a dropdown appearance. This control has .Caption property instead of .Text property associated to it. This causes the problem whenever i use such codes foreach (Control oControl in this.Controls) { if (oControl is DropDownPanel) { { oControl.Text = rm_ResourceManager.GetString(oControl.Name + ".Text"); } } } The text is not set here for the DropDownPanel control in the above method. Since .Text is not available for DropDownPanel control. I cannot do the following either .. I got the SPException that says something like content type can not be added outside of its scope. Then I decided to replace all "ContentTypes" to "AvailableContentTypes", but then I got the SPException saying this collcetion could not be modified. So how can I copy a content type to another web? • Pig: Count number of keys in a map

  I'd like to count the number of keys in a map in Pig. I could write a UDF to do this, but I was hoping there would be an easier way. data = LOAD 'hbase://MARS1' USING org.apache.pig.backend.hadoop.hbase.HBaseStorage( 'A:*', '-loadKey true -caching=100000') AS (id:bytearray, A_map:map[]); In the code above, I want to basically build a histogram of id and how many items in column family A that key has. In hoping, I tried c = FOREACH data GENERATE id, COUNT(A_map); but that unsurprisingly didn't work. Or, perhaps someone can suggest a better way to do this entirely. If I can't figure this out soon I'll just write a Java MapReduce job or a Pig UDF.

• NHibernate parent-childs save redundant sql update executed

  I'm trying to save (insert) parent object with a collection of child objects, all objects are new. I prefer to manually specify what to save\update and when so I do not use any cascade saves in mappings and flush sessions by myself. So basically I save this object graph like: session.Save(Parent) foreach (var child in Parent.Childs) { session.Save(child); } session.Flush() I expect this code to insert Parent row, then each child row, however NHibernate executes this SQL: INSERT INTO PARENT.... INSERT INTO CHILD .... UPDATE CHILD SET ParentId=@1 WHERE Id=@2 This update statement is absolutely unnecessary, ParentId was already set correctly in INSERT. How do I get rid of it? Performance is very important for me.

• Linq with a long where clause

  Is there a better way to do this? I tried to loop over the partsToChange collection and build up the where clause, but it ANDs them together instead of ORing them. • Why am I getting "Collection was modified; enumeration operation may not execute" when not modifying

  I have two collections of strings: CollectionA is a StringCollection property of an object stored in the system, while CollectionB is a List generated at runtime. CollectionA needs to be updated to match CollectionB if there are any differences. So I devised what I expected to be a simple LINQ method to perform the removal. var strDifferences = CollectionA.Where(foo => !CollectionB.Contains(foo)); foreach (var strVar in strDifferences) { CollectionA.Remove(strVar); } But I am getting a "Collection was modified; enumeration operation may not execute" error on strDifferences... even though it is a separate enumerable from the collection being modified! I originally devised this explicitly to evade this error, as my first implementation would produce it (as I was enumerating across CollectionA and just removing when !CollectionB.Contains(str)). Can anyone shed some insight into why this enumeration is failing?

  I'm using DataGrid from CodePlex. I have objects (ICustomTypeDescriptor) that have properties 'name' 'description' 'c' 'd' and so on (the names are dynamic, and so is the value) and they have information behind them. I have templates for different types. And if I have to list the properties of a single element I can just bind to the values in xaml and use datatemplateselector (in datagridtemplatecolumn) which will pick the correct template. However, when I'm listing several of the elements, how can I use the selectors and the templates? How do I get the correct property bound to the template (two-way)? When ignoring the need for different templates, using DataGridTextColumn with bindings is very simple (and works, see example below), is there any way to use similar approach with the DataGridTemplateColumn? foreach (String propertyName in listOfPropertyNames) { DataGridTextColumn textColumn = new DataGridTextColumn() { Header = propertyName, Binding = new Binding() { Path = new PropertyPath(propertyName) } }; DataGrid.Columns.Add(textColumn); }

• ASP.Net MVC null reference exception with TextArea name

  Hello, I have a TextArea html helper method I'm calling in a foreach loop. Basically, when I initially load the View it works fine, but when i reload the View and load postback data, the same TextArea throws a NullReferencException and yet the variable I'm using in the TextArea as the name of the TextArea is not null. I've attached a picture below for demonstration: Sorry if it's difficult to see, the blue arrow below is pointing to the variable used to name the TextArea. Again, it works on initial load, but it errors out on postback when the page is reloaded. I'm not sure what's going on.
