• looking to streamline my RSS feed mashup

  Hello crafty developers, I have aggregated RSS feeds from various sources with RSSowl, fetching directly from the social mention API. The RSS feeds are categorized into the following major categories: blogs, news, twitter, Q&A and social networking sites. Each major category is nested with a common group of RSS feeds that represent a particular client/brand ontology. Merging these feeds into the RSSowl reader application, allows me to conduct and save refined search queries (from the aggregated data) into a single file - that I can then tag and further segment for analysis. This scheme is utilized for my own research needs and has helped me considerably. However, I find this RSS mashup scheme kinda clumsy, it requires quite a bit of time to initially organize all of the feeds and I would like to be able to do further natural language processing to the data as well as eventually be able to rank the collected list of URL's into some order of media prominence - right I don't want to pay the ridiculous radian6 web analytics fees, when my intuition is telling me that with a bit of 'elbow grease' I can maybe leverage some available resources online to develop a functional low scale web mining application and get some good intelligence from it. I am now starting to learn a little about computer science - my background is in physical science/statistics so is my thinking in the right track? So, I guess I am imagining an application that allows me to query in a refined manner. A manner that allows me to search for keyword combinations, applying AND/OR operators, selectively focus my queries into particular sources - like a collection of blogs or twitter, or social networking communities, then save the results of my queries into a structured format that can then be manipulated and explored. Am I dreaming? I just had to get all of this out. any bit of advice and insight would be hugely appreciated. my best, Mark

  I am trying to sort a List of 2D Points first by x co-ordinate and then by y co-ordinate.   Hi there, I am a Java newbie trying to maintain an application that works fine under J2SE 5.0 (32- and 64-bit) but has a very specific problem when run under Java SE 6 64-bit: [Tims-MPB:~] tlynch% java -version java version "1.6.0_15" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_15-b03-226) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 14.1-b02-92, mixed mode) The application is cross-platform and reportedly works correctly on Java SE 6 under Windows, though I haven't been able to verify that myself. The program uses a JTextField for some text entry and a JLabel to indicate the text to be entered.   My htaccess redirect knowledge is somewhat weak, so I was hoping to get some help here. • Using tab key to navigate google search results

  Google the phrase "Humans vs zombies" (just used for an example here, phrase doesn't matter). When you see the search results, put your fingers on the keyboard, and press tab until you get to the first result. It takes me over 10 tabs to get through the "images", "videos", "maps", "advanced search" and other links. (Do you get the same results?) How can I get it so pressing the tab key the first time takes me to the first link? I'm using FF 3.6. How might I be able to greasemonkey this?

• Delete an entity by key without fetching it first in app engine (using JDO)

  Is there a way to delete an entity without having to fetch it from the datastore first? I am assuming I already have the key or id for the entity. I'm thinking of something like deleteObjectById that would be an analogue to getObjectById on PersistenceManager. The closest I can think of is using Query.deletePersistentAll() (as seen here) and specifying a query that only relies on the key, but I can't tell if that is going to fetch the entity before deleting it. thanks EDIT: I know how to do this using the low level API, as well as in the python API. I was wondering if there was a way to do it within the JDO layer.

  Hello, I am writing my first shader in WebGL. I was wondering if the GLSL language has any way to evaluate if an attribute or a uniform is null. According to the specs it does not support to do something like if (attributeX) { dothis(); } else{ dothat(): } And I think it would be a waste to write a bool attribute for each of these cases would be a waste. Another question: what happen during rendering when you don't pass along the uniforms or attribs to the shader? Thanks!

  Heya! I'm making a role-playing game, and I want to have a Map View and a Battle Screen. With the possibility of other screens as well. I thought the best way to achieve this was to use multiple NIB files. When I prototyped this by have one view that creates content, switches to the next view, and then back, the content on the original view was reset. How do I make it so that the first view doesn't reset the data each time it's loaded? Thanks!

• Delegate Methods Not Firing on Search Results Table

  All, I have a UITableView w/detail, with a Search bar, created from code. Works fine on selected items except it doesn't work when an item is clicked from the search results; no delegate methods fire. Never seen this type of behavior before so I don't know where the issue lies. I get the same behavior with standard table cells as well as custom table cells.   hi, I'm learning java and android. and I've been looking at trying to wrap the last screen to the first screen in the android Launcher2. I've tried googleing, and searching here, but there really isnt much information about the launcher2 source...I've been modifying the workspace.java file, but there has been minimal effect. no wrap around so far...I have not been able to find a .xml file that also might control the hard stop when you reach the end of the screens. • Callback function and function pointer trouble in C++ for a BST

  I have to create a binary search tree which is templated and can deal with any data types, including abstract data types like objects. Since it is unknown what types of data an object might have and which data is going to be compared, the client side must create a comparison function and also a print function (because also not sure which data has to be printed). I have edited some C code which I was directed to and tried to template, but I cannot figure out how to configure the client display function. I suspect variable 'tree_node' of class BinarySearchTree has to be passed in, but I am not sure how to do this. For this program I'm creating an integer binary search tree and reading data from a file. • Need a push in the right direction, to write my first functional test in Rails

  I've read quiet a bit of documentation over the last few days about testing in Rails, I'm sitting down to write my first real test and not 100% sure how to tie what I have learned together to achieve the following functional test (testing a controller) I need to send a GET request to a URL and pass 3 parameters (simple web-service), if the functionality works the keyword true is simply returned, otherwise the keyword false is returned - its in only value returned & not contained in any <div>, <span> or other tags. The test should assert that if "true" is returned the test is successful. This is probably very simple so apologies for such a non-challenging question. If anyone could point me in the write direction on how I can get started, particularly how I can test the response, I'd be very grateful!

• First and last window don't show up.

  Hi, I'm creating a WinApi application for my programming course. The program is supposed to show an LED clock using a separate window for each 'block'. I have figured most of it out, except for one thing: when creating the two-dimensional array of windows, the first and last window never show up. • Not loading the object caused EF4 (code first) to remove the relationship

  Firstly this is a EF4: Code First - Property Loading question. I'm loading an object like so var item = Context.Table.Find( update.Identifier ); This object has a property Relationship so a table has a Relationship object. Now i'm updating my item but my Relationship object is not toched (and therefore not lazy loaded). Now here's the problem .. I save my item and my relationship to the Relationship object is deleted, apparently the model thinks i set it to null. However it all works if I look at the property before saving. So I'm looking into LoadProperty or doing a query and using Include. Has anyone else come across this issue and how did you get around it?

• First iPhone App View Position Problem

  I am closely following the instructions given in the tutorial "Your First iPhone Application" on apple ADC. In the interface builder, I have set up a button positioned on the top according to the Apple Interface Guidelines. It runs without trouble if I simulate the interface in IB. However, if I run the built app, I get what is shown here. If you look at the view clearly, you will see that the entire view has been shifted up. And the magnitude of the shift is exactly the height of the status bar. And that's why the there is blank space at the bottom of the window, which was white instead of red. I have tried turning on the "Simulated Interface Elements", but that doesn't work either. The problem persists on real devices as well. However, using the "Simulate Interface" from IB looks fine.   i have three similar files, they are all like this: File A ID1 Value1a ID2 Value2a . . . IDN Value2n and i want an output like this Output ID1 Value1a Value1b Value1c ID2 Value2a Value2b Value2c ..... IDN ValueNa ValueNb ValueNc Looking to the first line, i want value1A to be the value of id1 in fileA, value1B the value of id1 in fileB, and so on which each field and each line. I thougth it like a sql join. I've tried several things but none of them where even close.

• How to find all initializations of instance variables in a Java package?

  I'm in the midst of converting a legacy app to Spring. As part of the transition, we're converting our service classes from an "instantiate new ones whenever you need one" style to a Springleton style, so I need a way to make sure they don't have any state. I'm comfortable on the *nix command-line, and I have access to IntelliJ (this strikes me as a good fit for Structural Search and Replace, if I could figure out how to use it), and I could track down an Eclipse install, if that would help. I just want to make absolutely sure I've found all the possible problems. UPDATE: Sorry for the confusion. I don't have a problem finding places where the old constructor was being called. What I'm looking for is a "bullet-proof" why to search all 100+ service classes for any sort of internal state. The most obvious one I could think of (and the only one I've really found so far) is cases where we use memoization in the classes, so they have instance variables that get initialized internally instead of via Spring. This means that when the same Springleton gets used for different requests, data can leak between them. Thanks.

• routing paramenter returns null when only supplying first paramenter in MVC

  My issue is that I customer Map Route in MVC which takes three parameters. When I supply all three or just two, the parameters are passed from the URL to my controller. However, when I only supply the first parameter, it is not passed and returns null. Not sure what causes this behavior. Route: routes.MapRoute( name: "Details", // Route name url: "{controller}/{action}/{param1}/{param2}/{param3}", // URL with parameters defaults: new { controller = "Details", action = "Index", param1 = UrlParameter.Optional, param2 = UrlParameter.Optional, param3 = UrlParameter.Optional } // Parameter defaults ); Controller: public ActionResult Map(string param1, string param2, string param3) { StoreMap makeMap = new StoreMap(); var storemap = makeMap.makeStoreMap(param1, param2, param3); var model = storemap; return View(model); } string param1 returns null when I navigate to: /StoreMap/Map/PARAM1NAME but it doesn't return null when I navigate to: /StoreMap/Map/PARAM1NAME/PARAM2NAME
