• Should TcpClient be used for this scenario?

  I have to communicate with an iPhone. I have its IP Address and the port (obtained via Bonjour). I need to send a header that is “0x50544833” (or similar, It’s an HEX number), then the size of the data (below) and then the data itself. The data is just a string that looks like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <!DOCTYPE plist SYSTEM "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd"> <plist version="1.0"> <dict> <key>clientName</key> <string>XXX</string> <key>clientService</key> <string>0be397e7-21f4-4d3c-89d0-cdf179a7e14d</string> <key>registerCode</key> <string>0000</string> </dict> </plist> The requirement also says that I must send the data in little endian format (which I think is the default for Intel anyway). So it would be: hex_number + size of data + string_with_the_above_xml. I need to send that to the iPhone and read the response. What would be, according to your experience, the best way to send this data (and read the response)?

• Magento - Add a button to system.xml with method attached to it

  Hi, I have created a module that has an "export like" method running regularly as defined in my module's cron area of the config.xml file. But I'd like to give the user the ability to run this export method on demand by adding a "Run now" button in the system configuration, thus using the system.xml file. It seems that the "frontend type" button may be working as I've tried and it adds a tiny clickable button in the config section. But I am not able to attach a method nor a label on the button itself. I thought about adding a button in the "Grid.php" file of the module but this not what I'd like to do as it does fit with my acl. Below is my system.xml file with the "button" frontend type. • C#: socket closing if user user exists

  Hi to everyone I'm trying to create a server/client application for a school project. This is the scenario: a server on a given port, multiple user connected, each user has it's own username. Now I want to check if a user that try to connect to the user use a valid username, for example if a user with username A it's already connected a new user that want to connect cannot use the username A. If this happen the server answer to the new client with an error code. • Convert charset in mysql query

  Hi, I have a question about converting charset from inside mysql query. I have a 2 databases. One for the website (joomla), the other for forum (IPB). I am doing query from inside joomla, which by default have "SET NAMES UTF8". I want to query a table inside the forum databases. A table called "ibf_topics". This table has latin1 encoding. I do the following to select anything from the not-utf8 table. //convert connection to handle latin1. $query = "SET NAMES latin1"; $db->setQuery($query); $db->query(); $query = "select id, title from other_database.ibf_topics"; $db->setQuery($query); $db->query(); //read result into an array. //return connection to handle UTF8. $query = "SET NAMES UTF8"; $db->setQuery($query); $db->query(); After that, when I want to use the selected tile, I use the following: echo iconv("CP1256", "UTF-8", $topic['title']) The question is, is there anyway to avoid all this hassle? For now, I can't change forum database to UTF8 and I can't change joomla database to latin1 :S

I am currenlty using simplexml_load_file to load the file like so: $xml = simplexml_load_file('Project.xml'); Inside that XML file lies a structure like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?> <project> <name>Project 1</name> <features> <feature>Feature 1</feature> <feature>Feature 2</feature> <feature>Feature 3</feature> <feature>Feature 4</feature> </features> </project> What I am trying to do is print the <name> contents along with EACH <feature> element within <features>. I'm not sure how to do this because there is more than 1 element called <feature>. Any help is greatly appreciated.

• StreamReader returning another char

  I'm trying to read the content of a file with a StreamReader, that receives a FileStream. The file has some spaces inside (char 32) and the StreamReader is reading them as 0 (char 48). The screenshot shows the FileStream buffer and the StreamReader buffer. Both have the value 32, but when I call Read(), it returns 48. Am I missing something here? By the way, the code is running under .NET Compact Framework.   I have a WCF REST Starter Kit service. The type handled by the service is a subclass of a base class. For POST requests, the base class members are not correctly populated. The class hierarchy looks like this: [DataContract] public class BaseTreeItem { [DataMember] public String Id { get; set; } [DataMember] public String Description { get; set; } } [DataContract] public class Discipline : BaseTreeItem { ... } The service definition looks like: [WebHelp(Comment = "Retrieve a Discipline")] [WebGet(UriTemplate = "discipline?id={id}")] [OperationContract] public Discipline getDiscipline(String id) { ... } [WebHelp(Comment = "Create/Update/Delete a Discipline")] [OperationContract] [WebInvoke(Method = "POST", UriTemplate = "discipline")] public WCF_Result DisciplineMaintenance(Discipline discipline) { ... } Problem: While the GET works fine (returns the base class Id and Description), the POST does not populate Id and Description even though the XML contains the fields.   I'm wondering if there is a robust and graceful way using linq2xml to query an item deep within an xml hierarchy. For example: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <data> <core id="01234"> <field1>some data</field1> <field2>more data</field2> <metadata> <response> <status code="0">Success</status> <content> <job>f1b5c3f8-e6b1-4ae4-905a-a7c5de3f13c6</job> <id>id of the content</id> </content> </response> </metadata> </core> </data> With this xml how do I query the value of without using something like this: var doc = XElement.Load("file.xml"); string id = (string)doc.Element("core") .Element("metadata") .Element("response") .Element("content") .Element("id"); I don't like the above approach because it is error prone (throws exception if any tag is missing in the hierarchy) and honestly ugly. Is there a more robust and graceful approach, perhaps using the sql-like syntax of linq?

It grabs the nodes fine, but when attempting to grab the data from a node with a colon, it crashes and gives the error "Namespace Manager or XsltContext needed. This query has a prefix, variable, or user-defined function."   I have an xml file called error.xml like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <errorList> <error> <code>0</code> <desc>Fault</desc> <ufmessage>Fault</ufmessage> </error> <error> <code>1</code> <desc>Unknown</desc> <ufmessage>Unknown</ufmessage> </error> <error> <code>2</code> <desc>Internal Error</desc> <ufmessage>Internal Error</ufmessage> </error> </errorList> I am using Zend and have the above xml file stored in a Zend Registry variable called "apperrors" like this: $apperrors = new Zend_Config_Xml( 'error.xml'); Zend_Registry::set('apperrors', $apperrors->errorList); If my code throws an error code of 2, I want a snippet of code to check the error code with "code" key in "apperrors" array and echo the ufmessage value corresponding to it. How can I do this? Ex: //Error thrown by the code.
