  • Vim: how to undo a regex with a new regex?

    - by Victor Tihomirov
my I have here a text that has been encrypted in Vi this way: 1,$s/\(.\)\1/&&/g 1,$s/\(.\)\(.\)\2\2\2/\2\2\2\1\2/g 1,$s/\(.\)\(.\)\(.\)\(.\)/\3\1\4\2/g 1,$s/\(...\)\(...\)/\2\1/g The task is to write a new regex for each regex in order to undo the the changes, so-called decrypting of the text. I figured out how to undo the last 2 changes: :1,$s/\(...\)\(...\)/\2\1/g :1,$s/\(.\)\(.\)\(.\)\(.\)/\2\4\1\3/g I'd like you to explain me what do the first two regex do. What does \1 or \2\2\2 mean before the forward slash? I assume that after the slash they change place (but wouldn't it be enough to just write \2\1 instead of \2\2\2\1\2(what does it mean?)? I just don't get it). And what does & or && mean? Thank you

  • Using openssl encryption for Apple's HTTP Live Streaming

    - by Rob
Has anyone had any luck getting encrypted streaming to work with Apple's HTTP Live Streaming using openssl? It seems I'm almost there but my video doesn't play but I don't get any errors in Safari either (like "Video is unplayable" or "You don't have permission to play this video" when I got the key wrong). #bash script: keyFile="key.txt" openssl rand 16 > $keyFile hexKey=$(cat key.txt | hexdump -e '"%x"') hexIV='0' openssl aes-128-cbc -e -in $fileName -out $encryptedFileName -p -nosalt -iv ${hexIV} -K ${hexKey} #my playlist file: #EXTM3U #EXT-X-TARGETDURATION:000020 #EXT-X-MEDIA-SEQUENCE:0 #EXT-X-KEY:METHOD=AES-128,URI="key.txt" #EXTINF:20, no desc test.ts.enc #EXT-X-ENDLIST I was using these docs as a guide: http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-pantos-http-live-streaming

  • PHP stream_context_set_option SSL certificate as string

    - by Roger Thomas
I've got a weird issue. Basically, I need to do this: $handle = stream_context_create(); stream_context_set_option($handle , 'ssl', 'local_cert', '/tmp/cert'); However. The certificate is not held as a file within the server. Rather it's an encrypted string held in a clustered database environment. So instead of the certificate being a file name pointer, its the physical content of the certificate. So instead of using the file name, I need to specify the content of the certificate instead. For example: $cert = '-----BEGIN CERTIFICATE-----.... upWbwmdMd61SjNCdtOpZcNW3YmzuT96Fr7GUPiDQ -----END CERTIFICATE-----'; Does anyone have any idea whatsoever how on earth I can do this? I'm scratching my head over this problem, but my gut instinct says it is doable. Thanks in advance everyone!

  • DRM for videos bundled with a desktop app?

    - by onekidney
Hey everybody, So, I have this desktop app built using WPF and C#. It's basically an offline course system that has videos, quizzes, and other assorted content. My dilemma is that I don't know how to protect the videos once they are downloaded and installed on the users machine? Are there any DRM systems out there that I can look into? I thought about storing them in a local encrypted database but I don't even know where to start with that (or if there is something else out there that I'm totally missing...) Don't even know where to start looking on this one - any ideas?

  • FTP OVER SSL - Invalid Token Error

    - by crazsmith
I am trying to implement FTP over SSL to upload encrypted files. I've created a SSL certificate and send it to the vendor. But I couldn't make a FTPS connection to the server. When connecting via FTPS, I'm authenticating using my private key file. I have tried .NET FTPWebRequest, SmartFTp,CuteFTP Pro. I am getting the following error:- A call to SSPI failed. See inner exception. The inner exception is "The token supplied to the function is invalid" FtpWebRequest request = (FtpWebRequest)FtpWebRequest.Create("ftp://RemoteHost.Com"); request.Credentials = new NetworkCredential("UserName", "Password"); request.KeepAlive = false; request.EnableSsl = true; X509Certificate2 cert2 = new X509Certificate2("PrivateKeyFile.pfx", "password"); request.ClientCertificates.Add(cert2); FtpWebResponse response = (FtpWebResponse)request.GetResponse(); Any Help Appreciated. Thanks.

  • .NET - Is it possible to proxy a HTTPS request using HttpListener & HttpWebRequest? (or is it not p

    - by Greg
Hi, Question - Is it possible to proxy a HTTPS request using HttpListener & HttpWebRequest? (or is it not possbile due to the encryption?) I have got a .NET proxy working by using HttpListener & HttpWebRequest using the approach here. I'm trying to extend this at the moment to listen for HTTPS too (refer this question) however I'm wondering if I'm trying to tackle something that is not possible...That is if this code works by listening for the HTTPS request (using HttpListener) and then copying headers & content across to a new HttpWebRequest, is this flawed as it may not be able to decrypt the request to get the content? But then normal proxy servers obviously can proxy HTTPS, so I guess perhaps it will work because it will just copy across the encrypted content?

  • PGP Command Line Decryption --- How to decrypt file?

    - by whitman6732
I was sent a public key in order to decrypt a pgp-encrypted file. I imported the key with: gpg --import publickey.asc And verified it with gpg --list-keys Now, I'm trying to decrypt the file. I put the passphrase in a file called pass.txt and ran this at the command line: gpg --passphrase-fd ../../pass.txt --decrypt encryptedfile.txt.pgp --output encryptedfile.txt All it says is: Reading passphrase from file descriptor 0 ... And doesn't seem to be doing anything else. I can't tell if it's hanging or not. Is it a relatively quick process? The file is large ( about 2 GB ). Is the syntax for it correct?

  • Invalid padding on ASP 2.0 cookie, MVC looks ok

    - by brian b
We have a cookie management library that writes a cookie containing some sensitive information, encrypted with Rijndael. The cookie encrypts and decrypts fine in unit tests (using Moq), works fine for MVC web applications, but when called from an ASP.net 2.0 website, the cookie cannot be decrypted. "Padding is invalid and cannot be removed." We are sure that the cookie value is valid because we tested it 10,000 times with random data in a unit test. There is something about what ASP.NET 2.0 does when it reads and writes the cookie that causes trouble. There has to be a gotcha. Any suggestions?

  • C# CF: encryption/decryption

Hi, i've seen many article on encrypt/decrypt of file and typically a button is used to choose the file for encrypt and another button to decrypt the file. i've seen some application like truecrypt and probably others which does file encryption on-the-fly with transparent. this means that when a encrypted file is clicked to access, it will automatically decrypt and play/open the file. then when the file is closed, it will automatically encrypt again. what are the ways to do this in c# compact framework?

  • additional security measures besides a login with user-password - what can you think of?

    - by Tom Tom
I'm wondering which additional security measures one could take besides a traditional login with user and password. What do you think of this one: _manually adding a cookie to each client which includes a secret key _this cookie is not served by the webserver, it is actually copied "by hand" to each client computer _if a client connects to the web-app the server graps that cookie and if the containing secret key is ok, the traditional login box is presented where the user has to enter the user-password combination _communication between client and server is encrypted with https Thus a potential intruder would first need to get the cookie from the clients computer, which is only possible with having access to the clients computer. This would work only for a very small user-base and an admin willing to do this manual work.

  • how can I translate a NSString to NSData? And the data has the same content as the string

NSString * theString=@"e88d"; NSData * data; // something I should implement NSLog(@"%@", theString); NSLog(@"%@",[data description]); I want the results of the two printings are the same. AES encryption and decryption: (1).The server: if the plaintext is :@"abcd"; the AES encrypted data(NSData data type) is :"d882830c dc892036 4345839f 13c7516a"; (2).in my local app, my code is : NSData*data=[NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:[NSURL URLWithString:@"http://..."]]; NSString * mystring= [[NSString alloc] initWithData:data encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]; However, to decrypt data successfully, I must got a data(NSData date type) which equals to "d882830c dc892036 4345839f 13c7516a".But it is the mystring (NSString data type) not the data(NSData data type) that equals to the right value. the encryption and decryption function both need a data(NSData data type) as input datas. • Is it viable and necessary to encrypt bytes?

    - by Shervin
We have a requirement from customer that if someone gets access to the database, all data that includes personal information should be encrypted, so that when they do select calls, they shouldn't be able to see anything in clear text. Now this isn't any problem for Strings, but what about bytearrays? (that can potentially be quite huge (several 100mb)) When you do a select call, you get gibberish anyways. Is it possible for a hacker to somehow read the bytes and get the sensitive information without knowing how the structure of the object it is mapped against is? Because if that is the case, then I guess we should encrypt those bytes, even if they can potentially be quite huge. (I am guessing adding encryption will make them even bigger)

  • How-to limit feature functionality

    - by ph0enix
Are there any standard or "best practice" ways of limiting feature functionality for a particular application? Example: We have a product with a variety of features, and our customers can pick and choose which features they would like to use, and the cost of the product varies based on which features they are actually using. In the past, we have distributed along with our software installer an encrypted license file that contains information about the customer, as well as the collection of features that they have enabled. In code, we read from the license file and enable the functionality according to the license file. This seems to work fine, except there a few disadvantages: Upgrading users with new functionality can be sort of a pain If a particular feature shows up in multiple places throughout the application, a developer might not realize that this feature should be licensed, and forget to check the license file before granting functionality to the user If the license file becomes corrupted, deleted, moved, renamed, etc. the application will not run We're getting ready to roll out a new set of features, and I was just curious what others in the community have done to tackle this problem?

  • How do i convert hdb file? ... believed to be from act! source

    - by Wardy
Any ideas ? I think the original source was a goldmine database, looking around it appears that the file was likely built using an application called ACT which I gather is a huge product I don't really want to be deploying for a one off file total size less than 5 meg. So ... Anyone know of a simple tool that I can run this file through to convert it to a standard CSV or something? It does appear to be (when looking at it in notepad and excel) in some sort of csv type format but it's like the data is encrypted somehow.

  • How to secure licensekey generation

    - by Jakob Gade
Scenario, simplified for brevity: A developer creates an application for a customer. The customer sells this app to end-users. The app requires a license key to run, and this key is generated by the customer for each end-user with a simple tool created by the developer. The license key contains an expiry date for the license and is encrypted so the end-user can’t tamper with it. The problem here is that the developer (or anybody who has a copy of the license key generator) can easily create valid license keys. Should this generator fall into the wrong hands, it could spell disaster for the customers business. Ideally, the customer would have to use a password to create new license keys. And this password would be unknown to the developer, and somehow baked into the decryption algorithm in the application so it will fail if an attempt to use an unauthorized key is made. How would you implement a solution for this problem that is both transparent and secure?

  • Reading iTunesMovies file in iPhone?

    - by raziiq
Hi there. In iPhone, the iPod app saves the media files (audio, video) with strange names and in weird folders (F00,F01 etc). There is a file named iTunesMovies in iPhone, which contains all the information about the metadata of those video files and how they are to be displayed in iPod app. I copied that to my Mac also, and when i tried to open that file in textEdit, it showed some alien characters which made me believe that it is encrypted may be(Thats just a wild guess). I want to read/change the contents of that iTunesMovies file. Can i do that? Is there any Framework which deals with that iTunesMovies file? Thanks in advance

  • PHP Retrieve Cookie which was not set with setcookie

    - by Martin
I have the following problem - a third party software is setting a cookie with the login credentials and then forward the user to my app. I now need to retrieve the cookie values: The problem is - I can do this easily in the Frontend/AS3 with var ticket : String = CookieUtil.getCookie( 'ticket' ).toString(); but in PHP, the cookie is not within the $_COOKIES array. The cookie values are: Name: ticket Domain: .www.myserver.com Path : / Send for: encrypted connections only Expires: at end of session The one I see, and set before in PHP is: Name: myCookie Host: www.myserver.com Path : / Send for: any type of connection Expires: at end of session Actually, since host/domain are both the same, it should be visible in the PHP script, since it is running on this domain. Any thoughts? Thankx Martin

  • Simple number-to-number (or number-to-hex) encryption algorithm that minimizes # of characters

    - by Clay Nichols
I need to encrypt a number and I and this encrypted value will be given to a customer ask a key so I want to minimize the number of digits and make them all printable. So I'd like the result to be either all number or all Hex characters. The current encryption method I'm using (for non numbers) converts the characters to hex (2 hex digits each). That doubles the number of characters. I also considered just treating the input as hex (so each pair of numbers is treated as a Hex pair, but then you have ambiguity between an input of 0123 and 123 (when decrypting that leading '0' is lost. Any suggestions?
