• Can you install the Unicenter Event Agent on a Windows 2008 server?

  I'm trying to install just the Unicenter Event Agent on a Windows 2008 virtual server, but every time I run the NSM 11.2 installer I get the following error code: Unknown or bad error code from "cadepchkx.exe" error code = -1 There are already some Unicenter agents installed on this server, but that was done from a custom install script. Has any one experienced this or know how I can get the installer to run properly, so I can install the event agent?

• Why don't SCOM R2 web console performance views load?

  When I select any performance view via my SCOM R2 web console, I get the following error: Unexpected error There was an error displaying the page you requested. ... and some suggestions about restarting my browser, which doesn't resolve the issue. • D key not working on Ubuntu

  For some inexplicable reason the capital d key on my Ubuntu system is no longer producing output. Hitting caps lock and then d produces a D. I've tried multiple keyboards and the issue is the same. • How to stop programs on starting from returning to log in screen?

  I'm not a computer nerd but have been able to fix Ubuntu/Linux problems in the pass two years with a Google search but this on has me stumped. I upgraded to 12.04 about thirty days ago and all was well except that every time I tried to load KeePassX it would go to the login screen. I installed KeePass2 and all seemed to work. Last week I tried to load Bibble5 (Raw photo editor) and it would try to load and then back to the login screen. After a few days I gave up and downloaded Corel After Shot Pro (Corel's now owns Bibble5) and it has the same problem. Could someone please head me into the steps I need to follow to find out what is the cause.   We're using OpsView/Nagios to monitor our servers. We've added the SNMP service to all our servers and deployed the configuration via GPO, but one win2k3 server seems to have a problem; it crashes pretty regularly. The event log carries messages like: Event Type: Error Event Source: Service Control Manager Event Category: None Event ID: 7034 Date: 6/11/2009 Time: 7:11:49 PM User: N/A Computer: HOSTNNAME Description: The SNMP Service service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 2 time(s). and also Event Type: Error Event Source: Application Error Event Category: (100) Event ID: 1000 Date: 6/11/2009 Time: 7:11:18 PM User: N/A Computer: HOSTNAME Description: Faulting application snmp.exe, version 5.2.3790.3959, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 5.2.3790.3959, fault address 0x000417af. Now, I could probably set it to simply restart on crash in perpetuity, but I think it's better to fix problems like this. Is this a known problem? If not, what should I do to diagnose it?

• Do you store mysql exports in your version control tool for reverting to in event of error?

  We run an internal web server with in-house software to run a manufacturing line. When new product features are to be added, either or both of the following occur: changes to the in-house server software may be required to support these - these are for significant changes in functionality, being code drive. changes to the MySQL database for new entries for the part numbers, these are for smaller changes, configurations, changes to already existing values and parameters -- such changes don't require code changes. Ideally we'd want our changes to be here rather than in item 1. Item 1 is version controlled in Subversion, so previous revisions can be referred to for rolling back to in the event of problems introduced in the latest revision. But what about changes to the MySQL database? We have quality processes to ensure that such changes are error-free but there is always a chance that errors can pass through, e.g. mistake in data entry or faults with the code that uses the MySQL corrupting the database etc. We have a automated backup every 6 hours but what if we want more manual defined checkpoints in between these intervals, we could use the same backup system but I wondered if folks here used other methods to store previous states of databases, e.g. exporting the database as a plain text SQL dump -- at least with this method it would be possible to see diffs e.g. in Beyond Compare for trouble shooting. Thoughts?

  I'm running Ubuntu 12.04's packaged Jetty in which I installed solr 4.3.1 (by copying the war file to /var/lib/jetty/webapps. When I start Jetty, I get this error: failed SolrRequestFilter: org.apache.solr.common.SolrException: Could not find necessary SLF4j logging jars. If using Jetty, the SLF4j logging jars need to go in the jetty lib/ext directory. The package libslf4j-java is installed, and the jars are in /usr/share/java: /usr/share/java/log4j-over-slf4j.jar /usr/share/java/slf4j-api.jar /usr/share/java/slf4j-jcl.jar /usr/share/java/slf4j-jdk14.jar /usr/share/java/slf4j-log4j12.jar /usr/share/java/slf4j-migrator.jar /usr/share/java/slf4j-nop.jar /usr/share/java/slf4j-simple.jar but somehow, Jetty and/or Solr are not finding them. • Why are my videos playing speeded up with no audio, but work fine if I log in as a guest?

  Since the start of this week I have been experiencing a glitch in the multimedia on my Samsung R518 laptop. I have 2 problems: Videos in every player are speeded up around 2 or 4 times (including youtube.com (both HTML5 and flash variants), any other video on the web and videos on my laptop played by Totem Media Player), exception is VLC player, but 2nd problem does concern even that. There is no sound - simple as that (with or without headphones plugged in). These all problems are now, and has not seen before, I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10 after it was possible, and from start I didn't have anything from this - it just started in this week. I haven't even putted new software in. I have more or less solved the question (kind of) - I just logged in as a guest - and it all works, but when I make a new user - it does not. Please help me. • rsyslog appears to act on old configuration

  I'm using a template to dynamically generate rsyslog filenames. I've made some changes from my original format, but rsyslog still appears to be using both the new template and the old after restarting. My filename template went from this: $template RemoteDailyLog,"/var/log/remote/%hostname%/%$year%/%$month%/%$day%.log" To this: $template RemoteDailyLog,"/var/log/remote/%hostname%/%fromhost-ip%/%$year%/%$month%/%$day%.log" I stopped rsyslogd using service rsyslog stop, deleted all of my log files using rm -rf /var/log/remote/*, and then restarted rsyslogd with service rsyslog start. The problem is rsyslog seems to be building folder structures of the type "/var/log/remote/%hostname%/%$year%/%$month%/%$day%.log" (i.e., without the remote IP), which no longer appears anywhere in my configuration. Is it possible that old log or config data have been cached somewhere and are being preserved through the server restart? This is creeping me out a little.

  I use ubuntu server 10.04 on a fairly good machine, with 2.40 duel-core processor and 2GB RAM. My users login with ssh or samba. I have setup LDAP with PAM to sync user accounts between unix and samba. When I allowed about 90 users to login over ssh at once the server refused login for many users. I am using dropbear as ssh server. Even samba logins failed for many users. I need to allow at least 100 users to login at once. Is there anyway to do this?

• OnTrigger not firing consistently

  I have a Prefab called Player which has a Body and a Sword. The game uses 2 instances of Player, Player1 and Player2. I use Player1 to strike Player2. This is code on the sword. My hope is that Sword of Player1 will log on contct with Body of Player2. It happens but only the first hit and then i have to hit several times before another strike is logged.   For some inexplicable reason the capital d key on my Ubuntu system is no longer producing output. Hitting caps lock and then d produces a D. I've tried multiple keyboards and the issue is the same. • How can I increase the maximum number of simultaneous users to log in to a server?

  I use ubuntu server 10.04 on a fairly good machine, with 2.40 dual-core processor and 2GB RAM. My users login with ssh or samba. I have setup LDAP with PAM to sync user accounts between unix and samba. When I allowed about 90 users to login over ssh at once the server refused login for many users. I am using dropbear as ssh server. Even samba logins failed for many users. I need to allow at least 100 users to login at once. Is there anyway to do this?

• Printer Canon MP540 succesfully added finally but doesn't print? (Attached Debug log)

  i tried to setup my printer in Ubuntu 10.10. I had to use special guide to install because Canon used libcupsys2 in its packages and ubuntu expects libscupsys i followed this guide in reference to this advice. The first problem was this one (the ubuntu "add printer dialog asked for root credentials". The suggested workarout in Launchpad to create a root password worked. Now i added the printer. It's available for printing. Then i got an error message "cups insecure filter" which prevented me from printing. That could be solved by setting the need root rights in the /usr/lib/cups/filter/ directory. The error message disappeared after restarting cups service. Now it should work but it doesn't. The main problem is now, the printer seems to be proper setup but when i try to print a document, the printer icon appears for short time in gnomepanel. There's a printing job in Queue which got completed, but the printer doesn't print. I attached the Debuglog provided by printer error control, had to upload to another site, since it was to big in the question body here. Perhaps someone can identify the problem with it? Note: i know that it once worked fine with an older release of Ubuntu, but not sure which version this was.

I want to be able to see only what people are actually talking about in each channel. I often like to leave IRC channels open and go back to them and read the messages for the last few hours or days. I saw that IRC clients have been discussed in this post and a few others, but I have not found what I am looking for yet. Here is what I want to see in my IRC client: what actual people say Here is what I do not want to see message about people entering the room people leaving room people changing their status messages or what they are known as people sneezing people's cats sneezing Anyway, you get the picture. What IRC clients are available for Ubuntu that would allow me to configure what I see so that I can see what people are talking about -- and nothing else?

  When i installed ubuntu, everything was great. But one day, i heard the login sound but no sound on the desktop session. This happens every time. I have reinstalled sound drivers several times, checked speakers are not mute, checked alsamixer, saw all the troubleshooting tips on the net, checked user privileges too but of no help. anyone knows the answer? Please help!!!!! I have ubuntu 10.4LTS and alc662 sound chip. My computer is detecting the sound card and no problems with my speakers.This maybe a bug but i cannot report as i don't know if this will repeat(I atleast have to solve the problem first).

• How can I keep track of a battle log on a web game?

  Recently I started working on a Web turn-based PvP RPG game. Now I'm working on the battle system but I encountered some issues: How can I keep track of everything that happens in the battle? It should keep track of the characters on the field, inventory, the damage done etc. I first thought I would simply put it in the (MySQL) database, but I think it will be too much. Especially if several people are in a battle. I thought of puting this in sessions or cookies but I don't think thats reliable. Does anyone have an idea how I can do this?

It is some like history of USB and System data. I think this feature exists in KDE This will really useful in may ways. • gnome-power-manager is running while trying to log in. How to get rid of it?

  After booting into the ubuntu login screen and clicking on my user name and entering the password, I get a dialog stating that gnome-power-manager is still running. The dialog presents 2 buttons, 1 to Cancel and other to Logout Anyway. This issue happens about 50% of the time and I don't remember doing anything related to power management recently. Also, even if I don't choose any option in the dialog it goes away after about 30s. This is happening on a desktop machine as well as a laptop. On the laptop I have configured power management for myself (not for gdm) whereas in desktop I have not configured power management for any user. This is only an annoyance but still I would like to fix it, especially on my desktop where I am interested in getting it auto-login ASAP into my userid. Any ideas why this could be happenning?

• Installed without the usual menus. Now I can't log in

  I tried to install from CD. The computer wouldn't boot from the CD, so I clicked on the 'boot helper', and rebooted the machine. And the first thing I see is do I want to open Windows or Ubuntu (without it asking me whether I wanted to install it alongside Windows or replace it), and when I click on Ubuntu, after a very long time, I finally get a login screen. But I don't have a login, because I never set one up. Help!
